As a recent Hope graduate and a 2-3 puller and 2-5 rep, this book was a fantastic read. I loved being a part of the Pull and I love it to this day. I learned so much about this tradition that means the world to me. There were some rumors dispelled and a lot confirmed. My largest gripe is that I was a Hope student from 2019-2024 (fifth year) and I wasn’t interviewed for the last chapter! I am arguably the most knowledgeable person about Pull in that time period as one of the 2-5 representatives. I got a picture in there taken after my freshman year victory, so that makes up for it. Besides that it was fantastic and a great tribute to a great tradition. I’m glad people can learn more about it from this book!

Highly recommended for those who have participated in the Pull; if you haven’t, there’s probably not much to hold your interest here. It’s how my husband and I met, and our daughter was on the team 30 years later, so I was squarely in the target audience and learned some interesting information.

My one complaint—or possibly a recommendation for a future update edition: Most of the people reading this book are former participants hoping to bring back memories and spot names of people they know, or maybe even their own names. Though I understand it may not be possible to include a complete list, I feel it was a missed opportunity to catalog a list of names of pullers and moralers (as well as their nicknames and/or pit names when available) from each year. More people would buy the book if team rosters were listed, and I’m sure more would read it too. As I read an early edition (the book covers the timeline through 2023 and this edition came out in 2024 with a correction insert in the front), I know there were several typos that may be corrected in future editions (for instance, Maras Vasilevich, quoted on page 137, should actually be Marcus Wasilevich), so this is my request to include those team roster records in subsequent printings.
