Note to author

Just a little note to let the author know that I have not and will not purchase another one of your books because you started this series two years ago and never finished it. Now you started another series and expect readers to fall for that gambit again? I don't think so! If you want to be a professional writer, get your crap together!

Better than Halo?

I read Halo because I liked the blurb but I was reluctant to get involved in another series, I'm locked into so many already but once I'd read Halo I had no choice so I begrudgingly added it to my ever increasing list.
Radicals picks up where Halo left off and it's the type of book that you just want to keep reading, it's fast paced and I think it may even be better than Halo.
The story grips you from the beginning and keeps you on the edge of your seat as Freetown struggles to come to terms with life after the attack. Kit is still coming to terms with her emotions along with her brother Luke, then just as she's getting a handle on them another surprise is thrown her way. This book contains all the characters from Halo that we grew to love or hate, and while talking about love and hate lets not forget about James, James is a interesting character, a complex man who I'm still trying to work out, I thought I had him all figured out but he does something unexpected and then I'm back to square one again, Ryka is well...who doesn't love Ryka, Jacks here of course and the Priestesses, well the less said about them the better.
This is a book that's hard to put down which is why I was reading until nearly 3am, I just had to know how it finished, fabulous story and descriptions but I think it's ultimate strength lies in the characters, they're wonderful.
Just waiting for the next one now.

Since my copy of this book is an ARC gifted to me by the author, I cannot speak of any errors I may have or may not have found within this work.

Radicals picks up right where Halo (Raksha) leaves off; right after Max's death.

I really like that it's been over a year since I was handed the ARC for Raksha (I reviewed book 1 on 04/30/13), which is now called Halo, and yet with just the first sentence of Radicals, it came all flooding back. There was no floundering and trying to remember what happened in book 1. No; with the first line of Radicals it was like saying hello the best friend that's been away for a while.

This book has a lot more action and bloodshed in it than book 1 did, even I wasn't prepared for the amount of fast-paced action that will undoubtedly keep the reader turning pages to see what happens next.

There's more than one twist in this book that will have the reader's jaw drop. And they aren't small twists that will be expected either, these are whoppers.

There's a lot more emotion the reader will go through within this book as well. Unlike book 1 where the reader mainly felt Kit's confusion, anger, and anxiety... now that she's been halo free for a bit, there's a whole world of emotion the reader will get.

There are a few places where the reader will want to scream in frustration, more than a few tears will be shed, and I can promise anger by the truck load.

All in all, Radicals is for the lover of face-paced action, bloodshed, and just a dash of romance thrown in so the reader remembers that the characters are in fact still human even if their lives are hell right now.

I look forward to and eagerly await book 3.

I give this book 5 of 5 paws.

Radicals did a good job on continue right off from previous book. There was a time or 2 that the book remind me of Divergence and HG may be because the dystopia genre they shared? Whatever Radical is able to stand on its own feet, imop. With decoy cliche that I almost scream but then suddenly turn around....I'm surprise eventhough it's not that smooth but still. Overall Radical is gripping, fun and exciting I couldn't put down. 4.5 stars

This is frustrating. This book ends on a cliffhanger and there isn’t a “next” book.

“He is bleeding compassion and murder, the softness in his eyes warring with a pure hatred so dark and terrifying I think I’ll fall face first into it and never be able to escape.”

So I was thinking this book was self-published due to the great number of tiny mistakes and typos in this that would not be so common with a good editor. For example, there was a repeat of the 'affect'/'effect' typo in this second book of the series. Turns out it is self-published.

Unfortunately, this book felt like a lot more should have happened in it. In the first half or two thirds, not that much really happened of much importance or relevance, it seemed to me. Plus we didn't get to see any fighting that's related to some key characters' new fighter ranks, annoyingly. It would have made for some great, tense scenes, similar to the scene where Kit is ranked in 'Halo', which is one of my favourites.

I hated the insta-love. In the first book it wasn't so strong, but here, a month into knowing each other, the main couple are declaring their love for each other, saying they will never leave each other etc etc. Then comes the Edward-style 'oh no Bella, I'll only hurt you, I must leave you. Be with Jacob instead.' Argh. Then the inevitable, way too soon: 'I can't live without you, Bella. I was wrong. Take me back.'

This brings me to the love triangle. It hurt me. Not to mention the very surprising twist that occurs early in the book. I don't think that was really necessary. Rose just wanted some awkward, angsty scenes, it feels like. I don't think it helped the plot.

Which in turn was not slow so much as not paced quite right. There was some great action (those scenes are partly why I love this series) but there was too much soppy romance and angst and oh, also, Kit seems to have regressed and is now freezing up and crying and relying on Ryka way too much. Noo!

Some of the writing though is beautiful. It is always easy to read, flowing, just absolutely a treat. I love it.

James? I like how the author has written him, very very much. I'm a fan of Olivia's storyline too. But in the sequel there was not much focus on characters other than the protagonists, which is such a shame because the characterisation in the first book was just so good. Also, I feel like we're not getting enough answers and not getting enough done. Well. Middle-book slump I suppose. (I assume it's the middle book.)

But this is still a great book which I really enjoyed, and if you liked 'Halo' I'd recommend continuing the series.

OH! BUT - what really really really got on my nerves was the mistake in the calculation in the book. Let me say 6 + 12 + 8 + 8 + 4 + 1 does not equal 33. I don't think this is too hard a sum, not at all. Something like that is so easy to fix and is quite obvious, so why did nobody notice it?

All the same, it's worth reading. Here's hoping the last book will be as good as the first; I have a feeling it might be.

Gah! I don't even know how to express what I'm feeling right now, I've even resorted to a gif for the first time ever in a review. I NEED the next book in this series. It's definitely a grab-you-by-the-throat-and-never-let-you-go read. So many twists and turns, and even though some of them I was waiting for (since the first book) and expected, they still managed to provide shock and awe when they happened. I haven't read a lot of dystopian, so maybe there are a tonne of tropes in here that I don't know about--but if there are I don't even care. I loved this story and I .

NB: This is my first review with a gif and a spoiler, so I hope it works properly.

Enjoyed the 2nd book in the Blood & Fire series, still find the violence a little bit confronting as it is not really my kind of thing. Having said that I really did love the story of Kit & Ryka and their relationship with each other and other characters in the book.

Looking forward to see what the next book in the series holds as this book does end in a bit of a cliff hanger.

Book 2 of series
Bummer that this book didn't work for me esp since I loved book one. The problems with this book were:
1. Ends in a cliffhanger. Hate that!
2. Ryka giving her the cold shoulder. Nah. Wouldn't of happened. (Enter love triangle here)
3. Jumping on top of the ship. *eye roll*
4. Luca...Luke...Luca - be consistent and choose one name. Yes, one of the other girls called him that but the author isn't consistent in when she uses them.
5. Okay let's have a sacrificial fight on the roof of a highrise days after they were attacked. You'd think they'd need their fighters to win the battle against the halo-wearing folks.
6. Ending...eye roll BIG time
7. Flow was off and too many eye rolls

This book just didn't work for me. So far series...
Book One 4-4.5 stars
Book Two 2 stars

Apparently there's not going to be a book 3, yet this book ends in a cliffhanger. Not nice.

Dystopian Violence at its best!

Picking up where Halo left off, the ride is fast and violent and full of emotion. Frankie Rose is mastermind of twists and turns and throwing the reader for a loop. There is angst as there should be with YA but there is soooooooo much more. Kit's emotional growth and ability to cope with her emotions is a key point to this book, but the war between Freetown and the Sanctuary/Lockdown is coming and preparation is crucial.

The emotional highs and lows of Kit are strong, and as a reader I felt it all. There were moments of shock, of awe, of sadness, of elation and WTH! This is an emotional roller coaster that left me dumb stuck and desperate for more. Where's the next book Frankie!!!

I loved this book! I read the first book in a day and half, and immediately downloaded this book to my kindle and read it in less than a day! I love the characters in this book, and I love the way that they interact with each other...the interaction and relationships among the characters I feel is very believable. And I just have to say, I absolutely LOVE Ryka! He is my favorite in the book, though I have also come to really like James. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a great read! It is fast paced and a book that you will not want to set down. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series and hope that it will be as captivating as the first two!

I personally think if you combined Ryka (his leadership role), Chi (his beautiful love for Kit) and James (his demeanor and persona) as one person, then you'd get a really really really amazing male role. All of them separate are really clumsy. The best of the thee in my opinion, is James himself.

This book was a quick read and interesting enough to finish.
I found most minor characters difficult to remember none of them really having character development or arcs that added to the storyline, and it seemed that the only ones important were Kit and Ryka and James. I completely forgot who Caius was and it took me a while to remember even though he appeared in the last book.

Even so, there was little to no character development with Ryka, Kit and even Caius that didn’t revolve around their feelings and romance. With such an interesting premise of halos limiting emotion and all of a sudden losing that, Radicals failed to explore the repercussions on Kit and Caius is aspects of emotion that were a) not about love and romance and b) perhaps more centred on personal growth, identity, family and friendship. It was just Kit feeling awkward and hurt about Ryka. Then Caius for some reason being hurt about Kit.

In terms of storyline there was very minimal movement and things seem to move in a slow, inevitable circle.
Not expecting too much is the way to go with this book, and the next I presume.

Woah...what a frikkin book!!!!! loved Halo, but Radicals was just intense! It starts right where book one left off and kept it's intensity and page turning from page one, all the way to the end. I bawled my eyes out at that ending, and my heart was racing so fast I could barely breathe. I cannot express enough how much I LOVE the characters...and even ended up loving one I didn't think was possible.

I do have to warn that this book leaves off with a MAJOR cliffy, and from what I can tell there is no word on when or IF there will be a book three. That being said, this was, by far, one of my favorite dystopian stories EVER!

I read this and Halo years ago and I absolutely loved them. I got Halo free on iBooks so wasn't expecting much but they're so well written, the characters are great and the plot is really good.

HOWEVER the fact there's never been a third book or even any kind of statement released about when a third is coming or why isn't not, it just makes me angry.

The book finishes on such a cliffhanger, sets up the next book perfectly and then just ends, and there's nothing after. Was that on purpose? Did something happen to the author? Did she just shove this series to the side to work on another? I NEED TO KNOW.

I've never felt this frustrated about a book series in my entire life.

It is not often that an author comes along and I end up loving everything they write. There really is only a small handful of "go to" authors for me. Frankie Rose is one of those. She NEVER fails to surprise me.

I'm a big fan of Dystopia. I love seeing how an author comes up with how the end of our world ends. But that is not what has me so entwined in the Blood and Fire series.

It is not how the world ended, it's how you find the humanity within you to keep it alive.

Kit is one of the strongest female characters you could ever read, in one sense. She's vicious with a weapon, she was born to fight and trained her entire life to survive each fight.

Yet, she is also so socially weak. Stunted, even. So in that sense, she's frail and meek. It only makes you love her more, seeing both extremes.

Ryka is just as fierce a fighter but so guarded in his feelings for Kit. He's constantly trying to do what is best for everyone else, carrying the weight of thousands on his shoulders. He's perhaps the most stand up guy I've ever read.

Kit doesn't easily fit into Ryka's world and her world is relentlessly trying to hunt her down. Her world is killing anything in the way to get to her and his world may just be willing to hand her over.

As lying pasts and hidden futures collide, Rose keeps you on the edge of your seat. Between the action packed fight scenes and the emotionally charged moments of love, betrayal and survival...you won't be able to put this one down.

I will post my review May 22 (release day!!!!)
Put this one on your wishlist and make sure you get your copy that day this AMAZING book is worth it.... I promise!!!

IT'S RELEASE DAY!!!!!
*Complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review*
So book one blew my socks off and I didn't think it could get any better... well then I read book two and my brain and heart exploded (in a good way lol). This book was absolutely EPIC and I want to ride the high this book gave me forever, I am so amped up for this series and I can't wait to watch these characters fight it out and set things right. I will try to do this book justice and with my review, but I strongly suggest you get your hands on this book and if you have not yet then get book one as well because living them yourself is the only way to truly enjoy how fantastic they really are.
I usually have a bit of trouble getting back into a series when it has been a while between books, but the world is so well built and the story so engaging and memorable that after a couple pages of Rose's fantastic writing I was instantly transported back with all my memories and along for the heart breaking ride that is "Radicals". Oh how this book broke my heart, I cried a few times and yes mostly at the end but heartbreak is only one aspect to this book it's also about love, sacrifice, family, and the fight for freedom and ones beliefs, and if you ask me just the whole entire package. The action in this book is so intense and real and then you are pulled into the emotional struggle of a girl who is only just learning the depth and power of emotion and it is all done so smoothly and perfectly that I could not put this book down...I wanted to live every second and then some, I am not looking forward to the wait for book 3.
I can not believe I was left hanging like that, but I get it it's the power of the cliffhanger and they are all doing it, and I will say this Rose picked a GREAT way to end it, it was crazy wonderful how perfectly the sad and the determination could be felt all at once, I was so amped by the words at the end that I wanted to punch something (don't worry I didn't lol) I could feel Kit's determination and it sent shivers down my spine thinking about what's next .....oh my I just can't wait for book 3 this book was so so so fantastic I want more ASAP.
This book is all that and so much more I just can't say enough so please, please, please get this book and book 1 they need to be read by all!!!

Radical (Blood and Fire #2)- SPOILER FREE REVIEW

As soon as I started to read this book I remembered how much I like Frankie's writing style. I just really enjoy the way she write a story.

This book start right where Halo (Raksha) ended.

Kit is one of my favorite heroine- knowing what she went through (first book) you would expect her to be a needy emotional wreck. But thank God she's not!!!
She is Strong, Independent, Loyal and absolutely Bad Ass!! She is still trying to get to grip with her emotions but she is able to identify them.
For example she can make the difference between love and guilt. ( and thanks for that!! you'll get it when you read it!! ) She is also trying to help Max(her little brother they saved) dealing with his. (oh yay!! over emotional teenage boy!!)

Ryka is back in this book but I found the story was a lot less focus on him. He was still is usual self and so freaking sweet when it comes to not pushing Kit with her feelings. But I really wanted to shake him really hard at a certain point in the book.... Arg!!! I forgive him since he is dealing with a lot more than he bargain for because of the priestesses. (anyone remember the Pristesses? I still hate them in this book- but they are a necessary evil) Oh and there is other Evils around in this book.

The beauty about this book is there is a lot of side characters and you get to learn about them a lot more in this book, and you get to meet new ones.. and some that you didn't thought you would ever met.

The story line was awesome, I actually couldn't put the book down. I loved all the twist of this book.
I didn't even mind the ending because Frankie give me enough that I wouldn't buy a plane ticket to Australia Kidnap her and get her to write the rest of the book ( sounds familiar?)

The first book was a good 2 weeks of book hangover and this one is not better ( in a good way), I can't stop the what if's....... and that's what a book should make you feel, that you are part of the story and care about the characters enough that you will worry about them until the next book.

A fulfilling, action packed, and suspenseful sequel to Halo. Frankie Rose never disappoints. The way she weaves together a world with characters that turn you from cold to hot, to cold to sizzling again makes the story stay with you long after you finish the last page. Radicals does not stray from this and leaves you trying to catch your breath from all the actions flung at you.

Radicals continues right after the end of Halo. We find our MC Kit still trying to get a handle on her emotions and now taking care of her little brother, Luke. The role of the Halo expands to more than just numbing feelings and controlling people, but to that of healing. Many lines are blurred in this story, including the roles of several people who played huge parts in the first book. We get to see more of Ryka-Kit’s love interest, Jack- Freetown’s leader, James-A tough as nails warrior, Olivia-Ryka’s sister and more, even a surprise arrival of an old friend. These characters are richly written and continually surprised me as the tale went on.

The grip of Sanctuary is bigger than Kit could’ve ever perceived, and the next play done by them thoroughly surprised me. There’s more than one danger out there that Kit and the Freetown members have to face, and it’s bound to be the end of them, or is it? Oh and the fights, oh the rawness of them in this one was amazing! I already can’t wait until the next book not only because we do get a huge disappointment in the end of this book, we also get a ton to look forward to in the next book. I have to admit, the role of James has me pulling my hair out. He’s dark, malicious, yet a whole new side of him won me over and wondering what his motivations with Kit really are. I can’t wait to find out!

Finished this book in high school I have now graduated college and have been working for close to a year. It makes me sad that they never completed this story because every once in a while I remember a snippet of the story line and I look it up to see if there was ever an ending.

While I understand that if a publisher doesn't want to complete the series that doesnt mean that it is a consensus agreement with the readers. I was extremely dedicated to this series and to the characters. Being a reader I create connections to the characters; I cant imagine what the author must feel for these characters but they must mean something because they were her creation.

Even if you don't get paid to publish an ending for those of us that have fond memories of the series and have been loyal readers of your other works you should think about self publishing. Or even just doing a quick novella and doing a free release on a share site because you want to give your characters the proper ending that they deserve, not the cut short cliff hanger ending that a publisher thought was acceptable to force them and you into.

3.5 stars; better than Halo because it starts to break away a bit more from some of the staples of YA dystopian fiction. I particularly liked the fact that the world seems to be quite fractured -- instead of the monolithic "utopian society" and "group of rebels" in books like Pretties, Divergent and similar, there's a sense of social breakdown that seems a bit more realistic. The characters still follow the YA dystopian mould; it's another fun and fast read, and the series seems to be a decent addition to the explosion in the genre. Like Halo, some minor errors seemed to have slipped past the editing process, but nothing egregious enough to throw the suspension of disbelief.
