This book took me by surprise. I’m someone who doesn’t judge a book by its cover and is willing to give it a shot as long as I’m in the mood. While it had a slow start, it gradually warmed up. I became more and more hooked as I read, especially because it offered multiple points of view—three, to be exact. I found it exciting, particularly since I enjoy reading from the male’s perspective.

Madison Sheldon’s writing style reminded me of the soap operas I adored watching as a little girl and still enjoy them now. The story has that ‘over-the-top’ drama with twists and turns. While some elements were predictable, I personally loved it. Admittedly, there were moments that felt a bit cringey, especially the lovey-dovey scenes, but I still enjoyed it.

The title indicated that it was a clean romance, and it certainly delivered on that promise. However, given the story’s direction, I couldn’t imagine spicy scenes involving the main characters. While this maintained the flow, I did feel that the suspense mentioned in the title fell a bit short—I was hoping for more of it.

I’d like to note that, for me, the book struck a nice balance between dialogue and description. I could vividly visualize the scenes as they unfolded. This engagement enhanced my reading experience.

Overall, I found the characters enjoyable, with one exception. There was a character who often resorted to 'sweet loving' or avoidance when faced with some situations. Their inappropriate jokes at the worst times bothered me a bit. While I understand it could be a flaw in their personality, I wished they had exercised more common sense. Additionally, in my opinion, the main character ended up with the wrong person by the end. #Team2ndlead

In general I found this first book to be a decent read. If you enjoy soap operas, love triangles, a lack of explicit content, and multiple points of view, this book is worth checking out. I’m excited for Madison Sheldon’s future works.

Thank you for Madison Sheldon providing this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

I received this novel for free from the author in exchange for a honest review.

"Your choices destroyed an innocent man's life. And look where it has led us."

Ok. This read was really unique. In a good way. It started off really slow, and the setting/writing style reminded me of Wuthering Heights for some reason. That made it really difficult for me to continue reading. But, at around 20% or so, the plot really picked up and A LOT was going on. I enjoyed the mix of description and dialogue a lot [I was literally highlighting the pages left and right, they were quite deep]. And the ending was so wholesome yet sad

“I will wait for you until the end of time Lucy, you are Mi Reina, my queen.”

This might have been a five star read if it weren't for the characters. I didn't find any character to be very likable. Even the children, like either Lily and Lucia are too mature for their ages and Alex with his cookie obsession. Seriously, all the interactions seen with Alex in the book was just about cookies. I feel all these characters need more development. Like Keith was calling Lucy "my darling" so frequently that I was confused which character we were following. The overuse of the phrase was getting so annoying, it was even used in the narration paragraphs!

"I was bent on finding Lucy, the old Lucy, the one Alejandro loved so much, and resume our fairytale life. But unfortunately, she is no more."

Additionally, I just think this book wasn't for me. The romance portion of the novel seem too "swoonworthy". There were several awkward moments, particularly the romantic times. AND THEIR INAPPROPRIATE JOKES CAME DURING THE WORST TIMES 😓! The suspense factor also fell short. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy all those plot twists and mystery and all. But I guess it was because of my expectations? I expected more...

"My fairytale life may have crumbled, but we can create a new story on our terms. With our imperfections, with our differences, with acceptance, and with our love."

Nevertheless, I really enjoyed the fact that it was a multiple-pov, filled with romance and tension. I was definitely HOOKED to the book after the 30% mark and it did kind of get me out of a mini slump. I liked Madison Sheldon's writing style and all the drama and grey areas the plot has in store for us. In short, I thouroughly enjoyed the read!

In conclusion, I would recommend it to readers who enjoy soap opera drama, a love-triangle, multi=pov, heartbreaks and a journey of discovery. Thank you Madison Sheldon for the ARC and best of luck for your future endeavours!

“As for my name, I think it's Lucy. I found her, I found myself, this new version that I accept and love."

**Thank you Madison Sheldon for sending this book for review. All opinions are my own.**

I have to admit that I really struggled through this book. Based on the title and cover alone, it’s not typically a book I would pick up, but after being asked to read/review it, I decided to give it a go. It did make promises of a suspenseful romance, and I’m a sucker for suspense.

However, this book just didn’t hit the mark for me. The suspense was all but non-existent, the drama felt over the top - like reading a soap opera - and they tried to sprinkle in some suspense but it felt not thought through and fleeting. The conversations between characters felt forced at times, and over explanatory for the audience at the expense of character quality. Maybe this is a style I’m just not into?

The characters themselves I also struggled with. There wasn’t a single character to me that was really likable. One referred to his wife as “my darling” so much that even I had to look back to remember what her name was - even in the narration paragraphs she was referred to this way. It just made the sappiness of the romance side of the story too over the top for me. The ending was also hard - I felt she ended up with the wrong guy, which made me feel like she had zero self respect.

I do think that just because I wasn’t the target audience for this book doesn’t mean it isn’t good for someone. I think anyone who is a fan of Harlequin or Danielle Steel books, or is into overly romantic stories that include strong possessive masculinity then this book is right up your alley. I think I just prefer a stronger heroine in my stories.

I received this novel for free from the author in exchange for a host review

"If I were a better man, I should let you go."

This book was really, how do I put it? REALLY DEEP. The writing style was really unique, like I rarely have read books with this writing style ( only 1). This book started off slow, but as the plot approached, it got more intense with a lot going on. The ending was good, but it would have been better if Lucy got Alejandro back.

“My sunshine, my light, my darling, my Lucy. Or whatever other name you wish to be called in the future. To me, you’ll always be my darling, my beloved. Please have mercy on me and marry me?”

I really thought this book could have gotten four stars if, just if it had more character development. This book had too much romance. This book had a lot of "inappropriate jokes" at the most awkward and wrong moments in the book. I expected more from this book 🥺.

“My darling, I love you, I want you, and you are not a substitution for anybody.”

Though this book had many flaws, it was a really enjoyable read filled with multi - POV and tension and a lot of drama, which I really like. This book took me a while to read, but it did have a lot in store for us. I really liked reading it. Thank you for letting me read this, Madison Sheldon.

I enjoyed this story. It took a while for me to get used to the shifting narrators. The story was interesting enough for me to persevere. What an impossible situation Lucy found herself in. Nice resolution.

Thank you Madison for sending me this ARC Copy.

This book reads like an old school soap opera. Even though it’s very different from what i generally read it was an enjoyable one.

This clean drama had me hooked and I couldn’t put it down. Though the one thing I found unrelateable were the intimate scenes. They seemed to be rather unrealistic, drawing very little emotion.

Apart from that the storyline was a great one.
All in all a great easy read that i would recommend.

This book is an unusual and innovative love story that branched out into tackling themes of commitment, relationship, friendship, reconciliation, marriage and family. The narrative portrayed a married woman who under fortuitous circumstances became an instantaneous substitute wife and mother for a man who devastatingly lost his spouse.

Having consigned her memory to oblivion due to a traumatic and painful experience, Lucy aka Lizzie suddenly found herself in a bewildering scenario where she had to confront her unsettling past as well as come to terms with her illusionary present. The chronicle of how she was able to get over the hump or make a stand and conquered her fears, insecurities and confusion to resolve the situation is the centerpiece of this aptly titled anecdote.

The author adeptly and adroitly unleashes and weaves an intricate fabric of well conceived developments that lead the female protagonist to unknowingly masquerade and play a deceptive role. Using flashbacks and different points of view, the writer managed to combine passion, misadventure, lawlessness, tragedy and drama in the right measure to create a moving and absorbing treatise on true love, soulmates, twin flames and deep connections.

I'm completely satisfied with the conclusion and Lucy's choice of eventual life partner since her preference displayed strong, dominant and protective characteristics in contrast to her emotionally unstable, vulnerable and psychologically compromised personality. This is an enjoyable and intriguing read for me and I recommend it to melodramatic liaison enthusiasts who crave HEA endings. The novelist did a good job of engineering the emotional entanglements in a uniquely contrived romance.

I was given a free copy of this book for review.

‘When the fairytale crumbled’ is a mystery / romance that feels like a soap opera, with love triangles, a HEA filled with twists, turns & secrets.

It started off at a somewhat slow pace but picked up around the 25% mark. While this is not typically a genre I’d read, I was intrigued by the different POVs throughout the book and felt that the drama and mystery within the book kept me involved throughout my read.

I liked the ending and felt that the female main character ended with the MMC with whom she had a better connection and relationship.

Trigger warnings:
Discussions of human trafficking, abuse and assault, mentions of suicide, depression and postpartum distress & child Illness. Contains violence and swearing.

Fairytales are what you make them…

This book was very intriguing. Understanding the stories of Emily, Lucy, Keith, Alejandro, the author provided insight of areas that many people face and how love can cause one to do things selfishly. This story had hurt, heartbreak and pain, but ultimately LOVE is what each of the parties had which brought this unique story to life. At first I assumed that I knew what would happen, but I was wrong. There were a lot of twists and turns that kept me turning each page full of anticipation of what would come next. I am definitely looking forward to the continuation of this story. This book definitely helped in understanding the importance of family and love even if it isn’t the fairytale that you’ve always dreamed of.

This book was amazing and well-written with a storyline that hooked me in that I wouldn’t move from my seat until I finished. I believe that the author has portrayed Lucy’s trauma well and how she deals with it is also well. I felt like I was in the world cheering for who would win over her heart. SPOILER: The plot twist of finishing out Carlos was alive broke me and I was worried it wouldn’t end well. SPOILER DONE. I love how Lucy, Alejandro, and Keith all accepted what Lucy wanted in the end and the kids even became a family fast. I can only hope that all of them find their happily ever afters. Including Antonio.

This is a well written novel that that strongly affected my emotions. The characters are so richly embroidered in my heart and they will remain there for quite some time. The impossible choices that had to be previously made lead to to a story that untangle an intricately woven web of heart-breaking circumstances. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in a happily ever after romance that gives a person all the feels.

I am not the biggest fan of the way the book is written, however it is a good story. The writings are of soap operas" days of our lives". I really liked the story and plot. The characters was good as well I with there was a better character development though. Overall I would recommend this to anyone who likes contemporary books.

Really really enjoyed this book. I was asked by the author to read this and give an honest review - she knew i prefer a bit a spice but i said i would still try this book. I honestly really enjoyed it - i enjoyed that i had to think about it all and work out what was going to happen and what had happened to the main character in the past.
I was so into the character i felt torn for her with her decisions she had to make. I felt sorry for all of the characters in all their heartache and journey.
Loved the twists and turns
thanks for gifting me this and i highly recommend it

Good idea for a story but narrative unrealistic

I love the situation that was set up by the author, and the implied question of what would you do in this situation. But nobody talks the way these characters talk, so I hope the author will work some more on that for future books.

- ""When the Fairytale Crumbled" is a deeply emotional novel that explores love, second chances, forgiveness, marriage, and family, set against a backdrop of secrets and suspenseful twists and turns. Despite its intense themes, the story ends with a heartwarming happily-ever-after (HEA). There are no cliffhangers or cheating involved."
- it was a slow burn at the start but gradually got so good and I was instantly hooked
- there are multiple point of views in this story ... There was 3 to be exact and it was good reading from a males perspective
- this story how it was written by Madison , takes me back to the time when I was little watching soap operas with my nan. It was good to have that memory while reading this story
- I love how the story has some twists and turns
- it was clean romance and love how Madison delivered that
- Lucy story made my heart broken knowing that she went through something traumatic and lost her memory for over 10 years and didn't know she had a husband and daughter looking for her
- I like Keith at the start till bout the middle I started to hate as he hid the truth from Lucy about her real wife Emily and she died. I didn't like the fact He made Lucy think she was his wife from over 10 years
- I adore Alejandro, how he was telling Lucy about how they met and got married at 18.. It made my heart and stomach have tiny butterflies

Reading this book was like plunging headfirst into the unknown for me. Adult romance is far beyond what I normally read, so it took me some getting used to. I feel extremely under qualified to give a meaningful review, but I’ll try my best, especially since this is the author’s debut novel, and debuts are special.

I think the overall story was very creative. It’s definitely an interesting twist on the classic love triangle and portrayed in a very real and almost heartbreaking way. All three characters are bound together in a situation none of them could control so it was really interesting to see how it all panned out. I was also surprised by the heavy turn the story took. I thought it might stay romance heavy, especially with the way it started, but the suspense was what really drew me in. Since I’m not a huge fan of romances, I struggled a little with the beginning, but once the action and intrigue started, I had an easier time settling into the story.

Mental illness is something that’s very hard to portray and is a very delicate balance. Sheldon did a pretty good job. I appreciated that Emily’s reactions to everything that happened to her were realistic and properly worked out instead of brushed over or, even worse, romanticized. That’s earned the author a huge plus from me.

I think the only complaint I had when reading was a little bit of the prose seemed a tad melodramatic at times (I don’t know if this was on purpose or not) and a lot of repeated names/conversations. Then again, I’m reading an ARC so these problems might have already been fixed.

Overall, When the Fairytale Crumbled is a fantastic tale of romance, trauma, and healing.

NOTE: I received a complimentary copy from the author for review purposes only. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Ugh, I absolutely hated the ending.

The man who she chose didn't deserve her. The other man arrange the divorce so she could make a free choice and gave her half his money. He was far more deserving but I think a better end would be if she'd ended up with neither of them.

A gripping romantic suspense including a complicated love triangle that will tug at your heart!

This is a fascinating and very creative romantic suspense novel. I truly enjoy reading books that keep me guessing and that are page turners, and this book doesn't disappoint! I was truly perplexed how this story was going to work itself out and I genuinely felt like I cared for all the characters involved in the love triangle, as well as their families. As in all love triangles, there has to eventually come a point when one individual is chosen and the other individual is rejected, and I was dreading that moment. I admit, the lover who I logically thought would be chosen was not who I expected it to be, but actually who I hoped it would be! Yet somehow the author was able to create an ending that although may not have worked out perfectly for all involved (which I think would have been virtually impossible), I personally liked the ending of this story and how it all seemed to work out for the best. I'm sure others will think differently, but it's definitely a matter of opinion. Regardless of which lover the reader chooses as their preferred or favorite option, I think you will still enjoy reading this story and getting to know the characters and all the hardships they endured.

This is NOT a light and fluffy book. This is a story about people who endure very difficult and traumatic experiences, and who all try to make the best decisions they are able to with the knowledge, abilities, and resources they have at the time. I wouldn't say there is really any good or bad person in the love triangle, rather all are hurt and damaged individuals who love fully and are trying to make the best out of the difficult situations they are in.

I think what I also appreciated about this book were the real thoughts and feelings people were experiencing. I think that is often one of the biggest downfalls of the clean/sweet books, is that they often come across as too fake, unrealistic, and the feelings/emotions the characters have are so sterilized in attempt to be "clean," that they are not really true to human nature. I think the best clean/sweet books are written by authors who can still express those natural human feelings, without being vulgar or explicit and I thought Madison did a great job in accomplishing this task! I will however warn, there is some bad language in this book, so if you do not like any bad language at all, this may bother you. However, I'd say the bad language was minimal and seemed appropriate given the heightened emotions in the given situations. They weren't just said needlessly and for the sake of just saying it. I also do not recall reading any moments taking the Lord's name in vain, which I know bothers many the most, including myself. There are instances of the characters being intimate with each other, but there is only the implication. There is nothing detailed, graphic, or explicit that is described in the book at all. However, just know that there are intimate moments referred to being done during the story between individuals who are believed to be married.

Finally, just please be aware of the trigger warnings before reading this book. There are instances of trauma that are described in the story, that include human trafficking, abuse, and violence. There are also cases of child illness and mental health issues related to trauma (PTSD, amnesia) that also occurred within the book.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this debut novel by Madison Sheldon! It was very well written and I was especially impressed by the higher level of writing, as compared to other books written these days. "When the Fairytale Crumbled" is definitely a step above many of the rest and I am sure Madison will do very well in her new career as an author! I'm excited to read other books she writes in the future!

If i could, I wouldn't give any stars at all. I can't finish this. It's so asinine. First of all, just give me the whole story linearly. Firstly for me, the writer does not pull off the complexities of telling a story in timed layers. Secondly I can't even with the utterly over the top unbelievable characters. The men are both utterly breathtaking buff dudes that at first seem to have no flaws (assuming you like overly possessive male leads). The woman is the most perfect beautiful reature that all eye are always on her when she enters a room. The way they talk isn't believable at all. Lastly I got not even 50 pages in on my Kindle reader on my phone and am gagging at the way this chick talks to this Alejandro with the most offensive words right after he tries to come to her aid when he hears her scream. Then says she's not meaning to be offensive even as she calls him names. Then kisses him when he stands up for himself and keeps trying to walk away, after calling him a condescending pri@#, basically doing to him what another man just tried to do to her. And he doesn't just flat out push her away? No, he deepens the kiss! Uhch I read a lot of cheesey books, books written by all kinds of people, all kinds of genres... but this is the first time I've ever called a book drivel.

When I started reading WTFC, I thought I had the story figured, then...nope..not it. Madison threw me off, with the twists and turns the story took. There is a great mix of love, suspense and mystery that keeps you guessing. Not only does it have two protective MMC, but she made it so I couldn’t decide which one to root for (I chose both). The MFC goes through some hard times, but Madison writes the scenes with such consideration to the readers. I also became invested in the supporting character and would love to read more about their story.

I found this book to be intriguing, twisty and unique. The characters were fascinating, though I struggled to understand and relate to them and times. Still, I was drawn into their story and caught up in the drama, emotion and the twists I didn’t see coming. Love can make people do things they never would do ordinarily, whether good or bad. It can wound as much as it can heal, and it can turn your life dark or bring light into it. This book illustrates that rather well.

I will recommend this fascinating book.

Hello! Thank you for this amazing opportunity.

I read this book in about 4-5 hours. I just could not put it down. I truly enjoyed it and it had me hooked from the beginning. I typically go for more spicy books so i wasnt sure how i was going to feel, but i still enjoyed this and the author got the passion across without the spice. The ending was perfect and honestly it felt like the most realistic hea for the situation. I think the description of this book is very accurate.

This turned out to be just an okay read for me. The story line was good and one I haven't seen in awhile. The writing left much to be desired. It felt like there were a lot of repetitive conversations. The men's over use of their names for Emily/Lucy was annoying. The word darling being said every other line literally almost made me put the book down. I found myself skimming towards the end just so I could see how it ended. I feel like a good edit or rewrite this book could be a 4 star easy.
