Beneath the Watching: A Dark Fantasy Romance

It's my fault my best friend is dead

I saw something—but I never said anything.

I watched as my friend got taken away, sucked into a life full of danger and wealth. One minute she was with us, and the next she was dead.

The men around us were powerful, rich, and mysterious and now I’ve snagged the attention of one of them after I unwittingly trespassed inside his territory.

He knows what happened to her, but he won’t tell me anything. He warns me to stay away, tells me to leave him alone.

I don't listen.

I’m not going to let this moody, arrogant man stop me from finding out what happened to her. He doesn’t scare me no matter how hard he tries or what spell he casts on me.

Now I’m missing, too.

I’m conflicted when it comes to this book. It started slow, with lots of names and friends that didn’t act nicely to the FMC at all. Then magic comes into play and the whole book is mostly trying to find/save Kiara. Mabel was a side character it seemed in her own book.
Stefan was half human half demon and seemed to want Mabel, but also not want to be near her.

The whole baking thing was kind of weird and then the “my boyfriend is betraying me with my best friend” thing didn’t really happen, even though what was observed by Mabel, seemed a bit too friendly.

It was an ok read for a bit, but then lots of things happen in the last 40% of the book, some without showing it.

this book started off strong and ended up in a completely different world than I anticipated. I was enjoying this story at first and around half way through things changed drastically and in my opinion it lost the plot. there was quite a lot of information and world building being thrown in at random times which made the pacing a little difficult. I thought both Mabel and Stefan had compelling backstories and was emotionally invested in the characters. Mabel was struggling to understand if Stefan wanted her or not and I can say I was struggling to understand that as well.

thank you to BookSirens for this eARC in exchange for an honest review!

I really enjoyed this book, i found myself wanting to curl up with a mug of hot chocolate and read to my hearts content. The writing is detailed and imaginative, you feel as though you are within the realms, feel the eeriness of certain characters. Mabel didnt reach her full potential until meeting Stefan, he helps her gain confidence and clarity to who she us meant to be. I loved this book and can't wait to read more in the series. The ending was abit abrupt but all in all a great read, one i would recommend.

“Beneath the Watching,” by Larissa Vincente

I liked the book and thought the idea and story plot was interesting. I thought it was on the slower side and was a little too mysterious at times, but it was still a good book. I did like the main FMC, she has some serious anxious attachment style, and I really related to that. All in all, I enjoyed the book, 3 out of 5 stars.

2.5*

Let me start off by saying the writing of this book was good and at the start, I really thought this book was going to be a hit.

Unfortunately, the story was just not for me. The pacing was really slow and a bit strange at times. I also simply could not relate with the FMC.

I am sure this book will find its audience though because it does have potential.

Thank you Booksprout for the ARC.

I really enjoyed this book, the storyline was great, the MC was likeable, just the right read for spooky season, Vampires, demons, witches, oracle…. I just wanted it to go on for a bit longer, I will look into reading more books from this author.

I received this book as an ARC and I am leaving an honest and voluntary review.

This is an interesting story. The world building has some intriguing quirks to it. The characters are solidly built. I struggled to connect with this story. The flow of needed information and pace of the story didn’t work well for me. I think that this is a good story, it is just not a story for me. I highly recommend you give it a chance and see how it fits you.

I like the book and thought the premise and storyline were intriguing. I thought it moved slowly and was a little strange at times, but it was still an excellent read. I liked the main FMC even with her worrisome attachment style, which I think we all can connect to.

What can I say. I've been postponing finishing and writting this review for a couple of days. I had a hard time finishing it. and and even harder time reconciling my thoughts on it. Don't get me wrong, the plot was good, the characters were fine, and the entire story was decent. But sometimes was missing , something crucial to make me fall in love with it.

I finished the book feeling like I needed more and less at the same time. It's aggravating. But the author really did the job by making me obsessed over it for days… so I'm guessing it's a 3 🌟 for now.

This book is WILD!

When Mabel finds herself in the third realm, her life is literally turned upside down.
And when Stefan claims her as his own, it wakes up something in her that has leaves her questioning everything and everyone she's ever known.

Larissa has created a world where magic is highly sought after and characters that you will love and hate all at the same time.

It was great to get more insight into Mabel's character and watch her grow into her powers.
The romance between her and Stefan is hot and steamy and I think one of my favorite romances from these books.

Please please please check all CW and TW before starting this one. This was a wild ride. Mabel life is less than ideal. She was not expecting her life to be put upside down and that is exactly what she begins to deal with. Stephan omg that book guy I can get down with lol.
