He saw me and demanded I be his. The thing was, he couldn’t know I was running away from a monster. I was never mine to be his.
Ahana I was Indian. He was Italian. He was the don, and smoke and fire his destiny. I was just a girl, a nobody in the world of men. He saw me as a riddle he couldn’t solve. An enigma his inferno couldn’t burn. To him, demanding my surrender was his right. To me, the truth was mine to conceal. My dark burdens were mine to resolve, not his to destroy. Even if it meant sacrificing my heart to walk the righteous path I was bound to.
Vitale She was made to be mine. I didn’t have to touch her to know she would fit me like a glove. It didn’t matter that she wasn’t right for me or that she came to me consumed by secrets. I’d seek them all out to have her be mine. Even if it meant defying the archaic traditions I was bound to.
Will Vitale find her secrets in time? Will Ahana choose the life she was born into or the one her heart craves?
Runaway in the Mafia, the standalone third book in The Shadows of Cosa Nostra Chronicles, is a Mafia, forbidden love, enemies to lovers, interracial romance featuring an obsessed, possessive don and a selfless Indian runaway girl. While this spicy, dark mafia romance promises a HEA, readers may find some themes concerning. Use the preview feature for details.
Sophia met her forbidden MMC and crossed continents for love. She was born and raised in South-East Asia and now lives in Europe with him and their daughter. Sophia’s own love story inspired her to rediscover her passion for writing.
She writes about love beyond cultural and racial boundaries. A defiance of what is ‘expected’ in favour of what is right. Her strong-willed, unapologetic, principled FMCs don't settle for less than they deserve, even if it means breaking social convention or cultural rules. Sophia’s MMCs, while being jealous, possessive heroes, will place the heroine at the centre of their world and are willing to change and learn to gain trust and respect.
When Sophia is not writing, she’s busy being an entrepreneur or enjoying quality time with her family. Aside from that, she loves to have an authentic connection with her readers, so feel free to reach out to Sophia.
“She was designed to be mine. Every look, every thought, every breath. Mine. Mine. Mine. Forever mine.”
I highlighted way too many lines in this book, but that’s just how amazing it is. Listen, I already love this series but Sophia Raz outdid herself with this one! The characters, their stories, the chemistry, the love. It was all written so well. I also love how this book felt so much darker than the other books in this series. This story has snuck its way to being my number 1 book by Raz.
Ahana is such a beautifully strong written FMC who is overcoming her abusive past with her ex. Happy to say he gets what he deserves. Her confidence grew so much throughout the story, I was so proud of her. Her sass towards Vitale in the beginning was amazing. They had some undeniably attractive banter. I love how she instantly connected with Vitale’s family. They had such good relationships with each other.
Yall…Vitale is one hot Mafia MMC. He did not listen to his mom’s warning at all😂I was deadass wishing I was Ahana because the way he WANTED her…that chemistry was just scorching. A truly obsessed man. She was consuming every single thought of his and I loved that. The close encounters they have with each other before the actual spice happens was already hitting, but when we got to the real spice… I felt like I needed to put my phone down, like I was interrupting something and needed to give these characters some privacy!! I love how Raz wrote Vitale’s experience with love towards women. He had his father as a horrible example, but he’s not his father, and the way he showed his love to Ahana before even saying the words was great to read.
I’m gonna stop myself before I end up dissecting every chapter but this book and the series as a whole is so worth the read. I’ve fallen in love with all the characters from each book and wish I could read these for the first time again.
It’s no secret that Mafia Romances tend to dominate my bookshelves. It’s what I read the most. I love the morally grey MMCs, the touch her & d¡e mentality, a bit of action, a dash of drama, and a lot of spice—I believe I’ve just described Sophia Raz’s recent release, Runaway in the Mafia.
Readers will follow Ahana as she escapes from unfortunate circumstances involving her husband. Vitale, a don to the Mafia, is under strict instructions from his mother to stay away from Ahana, as she is under her care. Does he listen? How could he when the pull between them is so strong? The heat between them is incredible. And the banter is written so well. I loved how Ahana would provoke Vitale in a way that would spark desire and passion. I also loved Ahana’s evolving growth. As Ahana feels conflicted with her loyalty to her father and her love for Vitale, her feelings resonated with me. And I continued to be absorbed by her emotions throughout the story.
If the Shadows of Cosa Nostra Chronicles Series and Author Sophia Raz aren't already on the radar of Mafia Romance readers, they should be. More will come; I know I don’t want to miss it!
I had high hopes for this mafia romance book, especially since it featured enemies-to-lovers and forbidden romance tropes. However, it didn’t quite meet my expectations.
The beginning was promising, setting up the protagonist, Ahana, who had fled her ex-husband and was staying at Vitale’s mother’s house. I was hoping Ahana would take some time to rediscover herself after her breakup, but instead, Vitale quickly became obsessed with her. This led her to jump from one relationship to another.
The plot felt monotonous, and the characters were superficial. I found myself struggling through the middle and had to take a break from reading. The story seemed to revolve primarily around the romance, with every chapter featuring a hookup after their marriage. Communication and conflict resolution were non-existent. Vitale resorted to shouting and screaming to get what he wanted.
I didn’t particularly like Vitale as a male lead, and his hotheadedness and frustration were a major downside. The author repeatedly emphasized that Vitale was unlike his father, but wasn’t he? The third act breakup was particularly frustrating because it could have been avoided if they had simply sat down and talked things through.
Overall, the story lacked polish and detail, making it difficult for me to fully enjoy. I appreciate the author agency providing me with an ARC for an honest review.
This book pulled me in instandly, from the first pages I already was completly invested in the story!
The fmc is an incredible strong woman who is trying to find her way back from an abusive past relationships, one where she seems to be running from too and in this journey she found herself into the home of welcoming family that is linked to a certain broody Italian mafia don 🤭
He’s insta obsessed over her and the way their chemistry and emotions were written it felt like I was there myself experiencing those things myself!
This story is filled with courage, obsession, action and lots of steamy bits 🤭 If you love a good Italian mafia romance this is definitely one I would recommend!
This was one of my most anticipated reads of the year and it did not disappoint! If i could give this book more than 5 stars I definitely would!
The emotion in this book had me in a chokehold the entire time. I didn’t want it to end. I was yelling at my Kindle a few times to JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER!! Multiple times!! 🤣 Several scenes had me tearing up! I'm just in love with Sophia's writing!!
Runaway in the mafia is the third book in the shadows of the Costa Nostra series and this book follows Ahana and Vitale. For those who have read book two Vitale is the brother of Daria (FMC of Princess of the Mafia)
The book opens with a prologue from Ada, who is Vitale’s mother and I understood why the author decided to open up the book with this chapter as it gives us an insight into Vitale’s family background and how Ahana ended up coming to live with the family. The reason for that being that Ahana is on the run from her past and from the moment that Ada laid eyes on her she knew she was going to help her. Personally I believe she saw her own fear in Ahana’s eyes that she lived with for many years while Vitale’s father was present.
Vitale comes off as quite an intense character, which was to be expected for the Don of the family. Similar to Daria he is burdened by the sins of his father - he grew up in a life where he witnessed his fathers countless affairs and which was utterly disrespectful towards his wife and family, but in these types of romances this is very common to see when a MMC/FMC would discuss their parents.
As a result of this he vowed that he would never become his father, this was a reason why he put off getting married for so long. He knew once he married he would be loyal to his wife and as such he would want a connection with his wife (as you would if you were going to spend the rest of your life with someone). But as the Don duty calls and when we meet Vitale he is considering a marriage contract, but when he comes back to his family’s house one evening and lays eyes on Ahana his train of thought completely goes out the window.
Vitale is aware of the contract that is on the table and he feels a lot of guilt for wanting Ahana and look I get it the man has issues that he most certainly needed to work through. But in the end he came to the conclusion that he will forgo tradition and take Ahana as his wife, as there is no world he will live in without her by his side.
My heart broke for Ahana throughout this book. She was caught between duty and her happiness- she was on the run from her previous husband but just like in Vitale’s world there is no room for divorce as this would be considered a disgrace to her and to her family. Her loyalty was to her Papa but due to his heart condition she didn’t want to reach out and cause any unnecessary stress. But when she caught Vitale’s attention she learned quite quickly that there was nothing that she could do to escape him.
By definition Vitale is possessive with all things Ahana, and he vowed to protect her from her past, and protect her he did. Vitale did frustrate me a few times in this book, in particular there was one instance towards the end and I get that but Ahana did what she believe was right not to hurt her family.
Thank you so much to the author agency who provided this e-arc for my honest thoughts.
Ahana has always followed tradition. Study hard, enter into an arranged marriage, become the ideal wife. But when her happily ever after falls apart, she takes refuge in Italy at the family home of Vitale Di Matteo, the feared Don. What she doesn’t expect is that hiding from her past won’t be the most dangerous thing. Vitale, more dangerous than any man she has ever known, is after one thing…her heart and he will not back down until he has it.
Dang, this one hit so deep. I went in knowing what to expect from the series but Sophia created something special here, and it ended up being my favourite so far.
“She was designed to be mine. Every look, every thought, every breath.”
Ahana was a total Queen. Her strength and determination to overcome adversity, the way she picked herself up again and again through everything, she is unparalleled. There’s a hidden spark in this broken girl and I can’t stop raving about her. The way she balanced the burdens of social expectations and still managed to keep her heart intact, seeking happiness was really well done. I really felt for her and her struggles.
And Vitale, despite his unhinged and unfiltered ways, was a sweetheart and lover boy to his core. This man was everything we love in a made man: unapologetically bad, unhinged, not to be taken lightly, but truly possessive and willing to do anything for his woman. His need to take her pain and carry it for her, I don’t have words for him. He’s paying for the sins of his father and he couldn’t be further from the truth. He was perfect, hands down.
Yet the YEARNING in this one…sigh…I was on cloud nine. Vitale’s emotions were so intense and deep and I loved this man so much (Ahana, girl you better know how to fight).
“Her name was etched into my heart.”
They fought each other, but more importantly they fought hard FOR each other. It wasn’t an easy journey but I loved this book so much and the life that Ahana and Vitale want to create for themselves. I appreciated the very real topics of racism, the fact that they were truly so different yet brought together by their mutual love, the way found family came into play. This book is going to stay with me for a long time and I definitely have a re-read planned very soon.
Crazy emotional, heartfelt to the max, this was a couple that had to fight for their happy ending and it was well worth every page of angst and desire.
Runaway in the Mafia by Sophia Raz is the third installment in The Shadows of Cosa Nostra Chronicles. It is a dark, emotionally charged romance that follows Ahana, a young Indian woman fleeing a monstrous past, and Vitale, an Italian mafia don whose obsession with her defies the rigid codes of his world. Their connection is immediate, intense, and fraught with secrets, setting the stage for a forbidden love that challenges cultural boundaries and personal demons.
Reading this book felt like being pulled into a storm. I was immediately drawn to Ahana’s voice - her strength, her vulnerability, and the quiet defiance she carries. She’s not your typical damsel in distress; she’s principled, selfless, and determined to protect her truth, even if it means sacrificing her heart. I admired her resolve, especially in the face of Vitale’s relentless pursuit. He’s the kind of character who could easily veer into possessive cliché, but the author gives him layers. His obsession isn’t just about control - it’s about recognition, about seeing something in Ahana that mirrors his own buried pain.
What I loved most was the tension. The cultural clash between Ahana and Vitale isn’t just a backdrop - it’s a living, breathing part of their relationship. Their love feels dangerous, not just because of the mafia setting, but because it asks them both to confront who they are and what they’re willing to risk. The romance is intense, yes, but it’s also thoughtful. There’s a slow unraveling of secrets, a dance between surrender and resistance, and moments that made me pause and reread just to soak in the emotion.
Sophia Raz’s writing is evocative and poetic, with a rhythm that matches the emotional highs and lows of the story. She doesn’t shy away from the darker themes - trauma, power, identity - but she handles them with care. There were scenes that made me ache, and others that made me feel like I was holding my breath. It’s not a light read, but it’s a rewarding one.
By the end, I felt like I’d gone on a journey - not just through the dangerous corridors of mafia politics, but through the hearts of two people trying to rewrite their fate. Runaway in the Mafia is more than just a romance; it’s a story about reclaiming agency, defying expectation, and finding love in the most unlikely places.

This is the first book by this author that I have read and I found it an entertaining story. The beginning immediately hooked me in, making me eager to know more about the characters, especially Ahana and Vitale.
While striving to overcome her traumatic past, Ahana meets Vitale’s mother, Ada, and accepts her offer to stay with her. (She has her reasons for opening up her residence to Ahana but I will let you discover why). Ahana is a strong female lead character and I particularly enjoyed how she stood up to Vitale and boy could she mouth off brilliantly. Coming from a strict Indian family I applauded her confidence when not bowing to Vitale.
Brought up by a caring mother and an adulterous father, Vitale knew all of the dark sides of being a mafia Don, but also hated the way his mother had been accepting of her husband’s adulterous ways. This boded well for Ahana and thank goodness too as their chemistry was off-the-charts and I would have hated him to have treated her the same way his father treated his mother. Vitale’s obsession with Ahana leads him to a big problem—whether or not to honour his arranged marriage contract or marry Ahana.
This story has some dark elements that are well written and the lightness of some fun banter and other enjoyable scenes balance things out beautifully. Things you can expect:—racism, to follow traditions or not, obsession, enemies to lovers, and forbidden romance.
I don’t know how to describe my feelings after just finishing this book. I felt so grabbed by the story in the beginning, and as well as in the end. I felt the pages just flew by and I HAD to know what happens next.
I will tell this, Antonio is still my favorite mmc in the book series, and I loved all the glimpses where he was in the story, smirking knowingly about Vitale’s most recent obsession. 😏 Now, I have said this that I love an obsessed man, but girls Vitale is in another WHOLE LEVEL. I think he was a bit too obsessed to me, but apparently not for Ahana. No matter how much she tried to deny it and push him away. He just kept coming back and CHOOSING her. Now that was something that pulled at my heartstrings, was him choosing her, despite all the stupid traditions and customs, despite all that.
Once there was more depth in their relationship, I found myself rooting for them. And hoping that Ahana would reveal her secrets and face her family.
Ahana’s story was actually heartbreaking, but her actions and strong will was so admirable, because she escaped and had the COURAGE to run away from an abusive marriage, despite how it would look in her culture and customs. She struggled with that a lot ofc, but I was rooting for her and admiring how strong she actually was. Everyone saw that, Vitale, Lia and Ada foremost. I loved how Vitale spoke out loud to Ahana, how strong she is and how far she has come.
The ending had me sobbing in the bus and me clutching to my kindle just to finish the book on my way to work. Admirable mention to Ahana’s dad. The love they had for each other seeped through the pages. 🥹
Thank you Sophia for the privilege to ARC read this book ahead of everyone as a street team member. Can’t wait to read all your future books. 🩷
✦ 𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬 - • mafia don x runaway heroine • enemies to lovers • obsessed hero • forbidden romance • interracial love • dark and emotional • strong heroine • fast paced and steamy
✦ 𝐌𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 - Runaway in the Mafia is book three in The Shadows of Cosa Nostra Chronicles but it reads perfectly as a standalone. It tells the story of Ahana, an Indian woman who runs away from her painful past, and Vitale, a ruthless Italian mafia don who sees her once and can’t let her go. From the very beginning, I was hooked. Ahana’s character is strong yet vulnerable, and she carries her scars with so much courage. Vitale is intense, powerful, and so obsessed with her that you can literally feel his hunger in every scene. The mix of her strength and his obsession created such a magnetic pull that I couldn’t stop turning the pages. The chemistry between them is fiery and addictive. Every moment they shared felt like a battle between danger and desire. Their romance is forbidden, full of secrets, yet it feels like destiny pulling them together. The writing is easy to follow but still full of raw emotions, and that balance kept me completely invested. This book gave me everything action, passion, heartbreak, healing, and those blush-worthy steamy moments. It’s dark and bold but also has a beautiful softness in how Ahana finds her voice and Vitale shows his love in his own dangerous way. Sophia Raz really knows how to mix intensity with romance, and I loved every bit of it. If you love mafia romances that are fast paced, filled with obsession, danger, and a heroine who refuses to break, this is a must read. I finished it in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down. Thank you so much the author agency for the free ARC!!
While I write this review, I want to go back and reread the book because it was simply a-m-a-z-i-n-g. You have the way of writing tailored men for my type that’s sometimes unbelievably incredible but also extremely unusual. Having crushes are normal, having flings or even book boyfriends are all usual. But having a tailored Mafia Man for your heart that keeps beating for you even when the last page has been read? That is truly rare and sweet. I tasted that sweetness in this book. Vitale and Ahana are the kind of couple that I can’t live without. It healed me.
Sophia Raz makes me feel loved. Heard. Mending my lonely heart when I need it and wraps up the holes I feel when I wish love. Please keep writing Sophia. Your writing makes me feel, and I love it. I beg you. Keep giving me these men that I’m so weak for. That makes me want to cuddle up and say, “that’s it. He’s IT.”
Vitale yearns for Ahana and yet, tries to play it cool but even then, the love is so strong, he would do anything for her. Even the title gave me goosebumps. Runaway? Running away but failing because the love you thought would break you healed your dark heart, wrapped up your scars and consumed you in the sweetest way possible. This love is real. And Vitale is here to prove it. Ahana is here to prove it. This duo is one I can never forget.
You know the cool breeze hitting you in the perfect time when heat is consuming you? This book is my cool breeze. It’s tempting, sweet and calm.
“Vitale loved like a lunatic but when hate infiltrated his heart, he raged like a Devil.”

Vitale knows his mother has a "ward" staying with her, but he has no idea it is Ahana until he tries to get close to her in the only way he is interested in. As soon as Vitale lays eyes on thank, it is game over, Vitals is obsessed. Vitales hears that Ahana is Job searching and he informs her that women in the Cost Nostra do not work. vitals is trying to Find and use any excuse he can to deny to him self that thank has him intrigued. vitale has gone as far as looking up her name to See the meaning behind it - Inner Light and Sun Rise-were the first two meanings for Ahana. vitals has an arranged marriage contract that he has to sign. My Thoughts: very well written. Great story line and characters. I loved everything with this book, except the slow burn. I like when the spice/ Smut Starts early on, however I would surely recommend this book to a "new to mafia" reader. These are my thoughts on Runaway in the Mafia, from Sophia Raz's Cosa Nostra series. As a big fan of the mafia romance trope, I went in with high hopes because the premise was definitely intriguing.
To be honest, it took me a while to get into the story- at least through the first 20%. I found there was a significant amount of internal monologuing and not quite enough dialogue. I was also hoping for more conflict tied to the previous relationship. More mafia elements would have added to the story, as well. While some were present, I felt there could have been more. I'm not sure if reading the previous books in the series would change my perspective, but that's where I stand now.
Ahana and Vitale's relationship was electric. Vitale has an explosive temper and an intense obsession with Ahana. I'll admit, some aspects of their dynamic, especially early on, made me cringe for Ahana, and there were a couple of moments where I almost DNF'd.
However, despite these initial reservations, Vitale's devotion to Ahana was undeniable- he would truly do anything for her. Despite his brutish and rough exterior, he found a softer side through her, and she, in turn, found validation, encouragement, and love in him. The chemistry between them was absolutely explosive, and the spice was intense. While there was some repetitiveness and perhaps an excessive amount of smut, it was still an entertaining read.
Ultimately, while the book didn't completely hit the mark for me in every aspect, it certainly delivered in others. I'm open to trying another novel from Sophia Raz to see where her writing takes me next.
I really wanted to love this one. The first chapter setup was so interesting, but it slowly started to drop off from there. Both of the leads aren't really fully fleshed out, and don't truly feel like they fit into who we're supposed to perceive them as.
We get instant-lust, which can totally be fine, but it's done in such an awkward way. The FMC is meant to be finding a job, but also quicky quits to be self employed? Timelines are kind of all over the place, without much explanation as to how far we've jumped ahead, even within the same chapter. We also have secrets exposed in an info dump manner over text, which just felt like such a weird way to expose things and most likely is set up for the MMC to discover them later on, but still, felt awkward.
Then there was often communication, non-verbal and verbal between the leads that made absolutely no sense. I kept having to read over the lines and wonder where on earth they'd got from point A to point B. Especially when they were in close physical proximity to each other, it was just a mess to understand where body parts were and what they were trying to communicate.
Overall I found myself getting annoyed and rage-reading and decided this wasn't the one for me.

Ahana an Indian running away from her past only to cross paths with a ruthless Mafia boss.. who is Italian ✨✨ I wonder what would happen 🤭🤭🤭
As an Indian, you know it saddens me to say that till date, if a women wants to leave her marriage or leave a toxic marriage, family and society always questions the women, shames the women but never ask why 💔 Family care more about the reputation and what would people say rather then their child happiness
When I read this book, mostly I loved was how the characters were from two different cultures and two different countries, they learned so much about each other's culture and language which made me giggle all the time!!!
I am extremely proud of Ahana standing for herself and reclaiming her strength!!! 💝💝
Vitale made me fall in love with him cause of the way he was towards ahana warm, patient and tender and how he understood that freedom meant everything to Ahana 🙈🙈
I loved both the characters as they devolped through out the book and they way they respected each other and how they fought for one another 🤩🤩✨✨😩😩🤭🤭
I can't wait to read more books from sophia raz
Topes for this book are: Forced marriage He falls first Mafia don FMC running away from her past FMC indian MMC italian
I’ve read all of Sophia’s books and by far this is her best work yet. I loved loved Runaway in the Mafia 🖤
Vitale is my man. Handsome, possessive, a total boss and just so much more. The mafia world mixed with the forbidden romance vibes especially them coming from different cultures had me reeling. The tension was everything.
Ahana is honestly so relatable to me. Being the eldest daughter in an Indian household myself I connected with her right away. Her relationship with her dad reminded me so much of my own and I loved how real and heartfelt that part was. And despite everything she went through Ahana never came off as a damsel in distress. She stood her ground and kept up with Vitale in every way. Their back and forth? Easily my favorite part it had me grinning and swooning the whole time
And I can’t not mention Vitale’s mom she’s amazing. The way she instantly loved Ahana just melted my heart
The enemies to lovers tension, mafia vibes, the forbidden pull it was all so good. A little warning though don’t start this at midnight like I did because you won’t be able to put it down 😂😂 The moment Vitale opened his mouth I was gone
Vitale Di Marco is the new Don. After his father’s death, Carlos. He was an excused of a father. Unfaithful. Was his downfall. Vitale is afraid of fallowing his father’s sins. He doesn’t want to marry or any relationship with a woman. Until Ahana shows up to his doorstep. His mother, Ada, as taking her under her wings. But Ahana comes with a traumatic past. She is running away from a violent husband. She’s in hiding. But something happened between to two of them and they can’t denied it. Will both their past lives will connect them or will it make them burned faster than a wildfire?
After reading the other books in this series and met the Di Marco, I was so eager to read Vitale’s story. And it was so worth it!!!! Vitale is so possessed by Ahana that he can’t just breathe or fonction without her. Everything tells him to get away and just forget her but he just can’t. I was so impressed by the writing of this character by the author. He is so unhinged, paranoid, possessive, even psychotic as Ahana called him. Ahana’s character was made for him and can stand her own. She’s not the fragile girl who doesn’t know what she wants in life and Vitale will promise her the world!! Can’t wait to see who’s next and i highly recommend it!!!! 5⭐️
Sophia Raz is one of my all-time favorite authors, and Runaway in the Mafia reminded me exactly why. From the very first chapter, I was hooked—I devoured this book like a starving girl who couldn’t get enough.
Ahana and Vitale’s story is everything I love in a mafia romance: forbidden, dangerous, intoxicating, and yet heartbreakingly tender. The cultural richness of Ahana’s Indian roots mixed with the ruthless Italian mafia world made this book stand out in the best way possible. Their push-and-pull chemistry had me grinning, swooning, and gasping at every turn.
What I adore about Sophia’s writing is how she blends edge-of-your-seat suspense with scenes that left me with butterflies in my stomach. Every word felt intentional, every emotion raw and real. Vitale was the perfect mix of obsessed, possessive, and surprisingly vulnerable—while Ahana’s strength and quiet fire made me fall in love with her instantly.
I couldn’t put it down. Not for a single second. If you’re looking for a mafia romance that gives you danger, passion, and a love that defies traditions—this is the book for you.
Okay besties, let me spill— "Runaway In The Mafia" by Sophia Raz had me yelling at my Kindle. 👀 The prologue? Don’t skim it. It starts off in 3rd person with Ada (Vitale’s mom), and I was like “huh?”—but trust me, stick with it. Ada’s chapter sets the stage in a way that hits hard. By chapter one, it flips to dual 1st person POV and it is SO worth it.
Now, Ahana? Whew. This FMC has layers of trauma—an abusive forced marriage rooted in her culture, secrets that made me ache for her, and this quiet strength that keeps you rooting for her. Ada keeping her safe? Chef’s kiss. Then enters Vitale. Don of the Italian Mafia. Arranged marriage already locked in. But the SECOND he sees Ahana? Game over. His obs€ssion is dark, unhinged, and so addictive.
It’s a veeeeerrrryyyyy slow burn. Like, I was literally screaming “JUST TELL HIM ALREADY!” fifty times. But when the chemistry finally sparks? Scorching. Mafia lovers, dark romance addicts, slow burn masochists—you need this one on your TBR. (And check those TWs!)
Runaway in the Mafia is already the third book in the Shadows of Cosa Nostra Chronicles and I have been following Sophia from the first book. And I can say every book I read by her is getting better and better! I loved Vitale and Ahana and their story. Like right from the first meeting between them you'll know it's gonna be funny, filled with tension and love. Vitale is willing to do anything for Ahana and is not affraid to show it! (Helloo new book boyfriend!) He know's how to take obsession to the next level!
Ahana has overcome so much and is such a strong FMC. And she isn't affraid to put Vitale on his place and be there for herself! I loved the push and pull between both of them and though Ahana did need a little push in the right direction, when they came together it was all fireworks.
Sophia has put so much from herself in this book and it shines bright through every word and chapter, the love for her father and also her love for interior. The details she puts in her book about the houses and everything, I for myself find amazing! It truly felt like I was walking along those walls and rooms. I loved every second of reading this book and I can't wait for the next book coming out!
Thank you Sophia Raz for this ARC to read and review!
It took me some time to really get in the story, and I found myself re-reading some lines to see the world that has been created.
But..
You have obsession and obsession! Omg I loved the devotion and obsession Vitale (hot and rough MMC) has for Ahana.. he would kill for her (he did), and yes, he is the don and rough and needs to have it his way or not! But Ahana (strong and fierce FMC) was coming from a abusive forged relationship and she definitely didn't want to go back to another, so she did everything to not give into the feelings she feels for Vitale and tries to run away. Because there was more then just her feelings, there was also her love for family (pappa and sister) and coming from very different cultures it is almost impossible for them to be together, that is what she thought though. Vitale never gave up in his own twisted way, but Ahana needed some time and distance to see that.
So, eventually, I really liked the story, I liked the idea of two different cultures coming together and making it work. Was it my best mafia, no, but I will definitely going to read the other books of this series.
Quotes:
"Probably the same reason women wanted to vote? So we actually used our brains instead of pretending we didn't have one so men could feel superior?"
"Everything I do will be to bring you to victory. You are a f*cking queen. Let me help you, mai ammaliatrice."
Sofia Raz’s Runaway in the Mafia is an electrifying mafia romance with forbidden love, secrets and the fierce battle between duty and desires.
Ahana is an Indian girl running from her past. She's strong, resilient yet vulnarble, caught between her secrets and desires for Vitale.
Vitale is the Italian mafia don. He is magnetic, dengerous and relentless. His obsession with Ahana is so intense and he’s willing to break tradition, challenge rules, and confront his own demons for her.
The chemistry between Vitale & Ahana crackles with sizzling tension, their push and pull, banter, raw emotions and his dirty talks. It was slow burn at start but then it was explosive with steamy passionate scenes.
Vitale's obsession, possessiveness, protectiveness, desires and determination to claim Ahana as his is so addictive it makes you fall in love with him. His every glance, touch, demands feels like promise and threat. Ahana can't resist him and surrenders to his every whims.
If you love Mafia Romance where they both are from different countries & cultures with intense obsession, forbidden desires and battle between heart and wills, Runaway in the Mafia is impossible to resist 😍❤️🔥
Runaway in the Mafia by Sophia Raz is the third book in The Shadows of Cosa nostra Chronicles. This is a dark, highly riveting romance which focuses on Ahana (MFC) and Vitale (MMC). Ahana is an Indian woman who is running from her horrible past and Vitale is an Italian mafia don who lives by the mafia rules. The connection is strong and immediate.
Both characters have many layers that add multi-dimensions to the story. Thus, you get fire when they are together. Ahana uses her voice. She is not shirking violet. Vitale is obsessive, and intense. When you combine both you get 🔥🔥🔥.
I love the journey the book takes you through and the passion of both the characters.
Story - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Spice/Steam - 🔥🔥🔥
Tropes: ❤️ Mafia Romance ❤️ Enemies to Lovers ❤️ Forbidden Love ❤️ Good Girl / Bad Boy ❤️ He falls first(and harder) ❤️ Touch her and ☠️ ❤️ ‘Who did this to you?’ ❤️ Forced Marriage ❤️ Found Family ❤️ Obsessed MMC ❤️ BIPOC FMC ❤️ Forced Proximity ❤️ Insta Obsession ❤️ Italian Mafia ❤️ Trauma healing ❤️ Indian FMC ❤️ Age Gap ❤️ ALL the spice
Wow this book definitely had me pulled in instantly by the first couple of pages.
Ahana’s story was heart breaking but I noticed the more I read her actions were admirable because she escaped and had courage to run away from an abusive marriage despite how it looked in her culture she’s just trying to find her way back. She’s definitely one of those strong FMC and everyone saw that vitale, Lia and Ada.
Vitale knew Ahana was off limits but that didn’t stop him from his insta obsession over her it’s everything I love in a mafia story when a woman is off limits for the don but the don finds a way to make her his. Vitale was the perfect mix of obsession, possessive, and dangerous.
I loved the cultural mixed in Ahana’s Indian roots mixed with the ruthless Italian mafia don it made the book stand out in the best way possible.
This is my first time reading a Sophia Raz book and it’s definitely not my last. She has a way to make a story that will make you be at the edge of your seat and every word felt intentional and real.
This is book three in the author’s The Shadows of Cosa Nostra Chronicles series and features an interracial romance between Vitale, an Italian Don and Ahana, an Indian woman running from her abusive husband and being helped by Vitale’s mother, Ada.
Even though he was supposed to marry another woman, when Vitale saw her, he fell for Ahana almost from the beginning—never mind that she was afraid to be with anyone else. That didn’t faze Vitale, she was HIS.
This book, while a little dark, contains some of my most favorite tropes, specifically an obsessive, possessive and protective MMC and, although it’s a bit of a slow burn and took a little while, once the sparks started flying, it was super steamy.
This was my first read by this author and, though it was fairly interesting, I still had a bit of a hard time getting into it. The other reviews are great though so I’m hesitant to say one way or another, all I can do is suggest you check it out for yourself but for myself, 4 stars.
I received a copy of this book for free but am voluntarily leaving a review.
🔹Strong & Independent FMC 🔹Unhinged, obsessed, possessive MMC 🔹Enemies to Lovers 🔹Mafia romance 🔹Found family 🔹Good girl x Bad boy
✨ I was completely swept away by Ahana and Vitale’s story. She, rooted in her Indian heritage, and he, bound by Italian tradition—two worlds colliding in the most unexpected way. Ahana was running from one monster, only to stumble into another… but this monster would kill to protect her. 🔥 The depth and layers in both characters made them unforgettable. Vitale never saw Ahana coming, yet from the first breath of her scent, he was undone. Their slow burn was electric—so charged with sexual tension I could hardly breathe through the pages.
📚 I devoured this book, unable to put it down. It was everything I crave in a dark, passionate romance, and I can’t recommend it enough.
