This story sort of reminded me of the movie Clueless but only in regards to Cher (Alicia Silverstone) and her "former" step brother, Josh (Paul Rudd), falling in love and both being filthy rich. Everything else was unique and I LOVED it!! I wasn't really sure what to expect when I started this book and I have to say that I was genuinely blown away!

I did not like Kyle at first and I thought he was just a spoiled jerk who only cared for himself. When he would yell at Sophie and tell her those horrible things, it made my heart hurt. Then I realized that as a young adult, he just didn't understand or know how to deal with the type of feelings he was having. Kyle as an adult, he had grown very wise and knew exactly who and what he wanted.

The back and forth between Kyle and Sophie in their younger years is so damn hot that I get butterflies in my belly just thinking about it. As adults... its explosive!

shirt rip

"He ran his hands over my hips and squeezed me gently. 'I can't get your tight little body out of my head, and all I want to do is barge into your room and....' He stopped and took a deep breath. 'It's because I'm the only girl you can't have."

"She's the person I would move heaven and earth for."

back scratch

I did like Sophie but her constant whining got on my nerves. As a teenager I could completely understand her reluctance to be with Kyle. They live in the same house and their parents are married so that makes them step siblings/related. People will talk and shit will hit the fan. As an adult, I still understood her reservations about being together openly. What will their parents, family and friends think and what will people say? However, even after Sophie admitted her feelings and they were planning on being together openly, she continued to make excuses for them to not be together. It was infuriating! I finally got to a point where I just wanted to jump into the book and smack her!

"Perhaps coming here wasn't going to help me at all. Perhaps it would just transfer one type of sadness to another."

leg grab

"To be with the right person wasn't supposed to come without a struggle and mine was to swallow that feeling of shame."

Now for some of the things I didn't like and only docked 1/2 a star because the story is soooo good. The word "whilst" is completely overused. I did a word search and its used 49 times. With that being said this author is British and it very well could be a British thing. Another thing that bothered me was that there was a lot of alcohol in this book. I don't mind the consumption of alcohol but it feels like it was an excuse to loosen up the characters so they can make some bad decisions. However, they never once blamed anything on the alcohol and that made me happy. It seemed to only loosen their inhibitions. Then when Kyle and Sophie were together for the first time, Don't get me wrong, that was a HOT scene, but I think it would have been better if that part of their relationship was more developed first. And lastly the jumping back and forth from past to present. It wasn't terrible, but got a little confusing. In the beginning I found myself more interested in their younger years rather than the present. I think I understand why the author jumped back and forth from past to present So I guess if it was written with the past in the first half then the present the second half, then the author would have caught hell for repeating the story. So, bravo Hayley Oakes! Bravo!

Overall, I loved this book! The characters are well developed and believable and the sex is amazing! This is a very, very well written book and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes to skirt the line of taboo. This is a step sibling romance and I personally know one person who doesn't like reading about this. This was my first step siblings romance so I wasn't sure what to expect and I ended up really enjoying it. I can't wait to read more from this author!!

"It was not written in the stars for us. We were Romeo and Juliet, and if we weren't careful wed kill each other trying to be together. ."

Loved, Loved, Loved this!

UPDATE:

OMG! I loved this book!

I want to thank Hayley for kindler providing me with a copy of Just Between Us to read and review

This book it just full of YUMMYNESS!

I loved that Hayley wrote JBU by going back and forth between the past and present.

We get to see both sides, the younger side of Sophie & Kyle and the older, mature side of Sophie & Kyle.

I did get a tad bit peeved off at Sophie.....she totally did my head in, in a way I could see where she was coming from...but seriously woman....argghhhhhh

BUT

Don't get me wrong....Kyle certainly fucked up at times, and I seriously wanted to cause bodily harm to him for being such a JERK, but hey ho....we can't help who we fall in love with now, can we?

"He was an enigma, and I had no business messing around with someone as complicated as Kyle Hanson."

As the quote above state, Kyle, yes...he totally was an enigma, but we got to understand why with the dual POV's, between him and Sophie ( I love it when an author writes in dual POV)

"I'm not a romantic, I'm a realist, and it's just my luck to be fucking in love with the only girl in the world that I can't have."

I don't want to give away more away than I have so all I can say is this book was a very addicting read. I loved the banter between Kyle and Sophie and the love they had for one another.

Okay ... wow! I'm not quite sure how to review this story. I loved the forbidden taboo of it. The emotions involving Sophie and Kyle hit every nerve in my body. I felt for each of them! I got Sophie's hesitance then and also in the present.. but wish Sophie would of come into her realization a little earlier than she did. Kyle ... oh Kyle! You wanted to hate him and you wanted to blame him for certain things yet ... I didn't. He was hurt and damaged and he didn't have ANYONE to help him and take care of him. I really hated the way Mick treated Kyle ... he deserved so much! I just fell in love with Kyle! The whole book is from Past to Present and you get a little of both POV's. I loved reading the past ... the buildup to the present. My heart broke more for Kyle than Sophie. I had a like/hate relationship with her. I didn't like how she treated Kyle ... the things she said to him. I mean the bitch crushed him at times!! But ... you felt the ping pong ball of emotions coming off of her ... she hated that she had to fight it ... she was soo insecure!!!! All in all ... I'm glad they got their happy ending. They both got their "normal"!!! However ... I do wish I could of had more with them as a true couple instead of the fleeting epilogue we received.

Going in, I wasn’t sure what to expect of this book as I hadn’t heard of it prior to being asked by the author if I would like a review copy. Let me tell you, this was a book that I found difficult to actually put down.

Just Between Us should have came with a major warning. “Caution: Book is seriously hot! Good chance it may cause reader to become hot and bothered in need of a cold shower. Also has serious angsty issues that results in reader wishing to smack both characters for being Muppets” Yes, it is one of those type of books and to be honest I ate up this book like it was a bag of Malteasers. (Anyone who has seen me with Malteasers will know what I mean)

Oakes has crafted a book that is complex in its execution. The blurb gives very little away about the relationship between Kyle and Sophie, so I expected the typical reformed Bad Boy returns and brings the Good Girl back to life. In many ways this is true, but the novel and interesting twist is the fact that Kyle and Sophie were also step siblings. This added a complication that I hadn’t expected and gave a new spin to this genre.

By inserting the back story to that summer that caused so much heart-ache, we begin to build up a better understanding of this already complicated relationship. At first, Kyle really does come across as a mean womanising Douche-bag, that is totally contradictive to the man he becomes. We are left wondering what caused such a shift in character, especially in the ways in which his relationship with Sophie seems to have crashed and burned to an extent that he has never been back home for nearly ten years.

Kyle only comes back to attend Sophie’s now cancelled wedding. He finds her a mere shadow of the woman he once knew. In an effort to get her out of her funk, he offers to take her back to London over the summer so that she can attempt to think what her next steps in order to get her life back on track.

It is here that we once again see a different side to the already complex and deep Kylie, for his friends in London comment on how he seems different and more happier that Sophie is back on the scene.

Adding to the complication is Sophie’s fear of what everyone will think about her and Kyle being step-siblings and one time lovers. Away from their hometown, both Kyle and Sophie are able to pursue a relationship, even if it is just for the summer. However, history looks to repeat itself and even though ten years have passed, Sophie still fears what the people in her home town will think if she chooses to have a long term relationship with the former bad boy.

What made this such an interesting read was the fact that you get to see both Sophie and Kyles point of view, especially in the present time. It gives a more rounded experience as you are able to see the story from the other person.

For most of the book I did have a lot of sympathy for Sophie, but as I began to learn more about Kyle I began to find myself growing increasingly annoyed with how she was acting. Again, this was mostly in the present day. As I pointed out earlier in my review present day Kyle is so different from the jerk portrayed by Sophie in the past. Kyle has seemingly matured while Sophie is still living in the past and can’t help feeling that what they feel is wrong due to the fact that they are step-siblings. This could have been the case if Kyle and Sophie had grew up when they were very young, but their parents got together when they were in their early teens and Kyle only really stayed with his dad when his mother moved to Spain. So they never really grew up together.

As this is a romance book, you can guess that they do get together at the end, but it is never about the destination but the journey and that is what is great about this book. Oakes has balanced a compelling angst ridden story with some really smouldering scenes that come across as very natural. Other authors of this genre I have read seem to write sex scenes that can come across as very forced or one or both of the characters end up acting out of character. Oakes avoids this and reading the more intimate scenes is enjoyable for how natural it comes across.

VERDICT:
I can’t recommend this book high enough. It surprised me that this was a self-published author as the quality of this book is of such a highly professional nature. Oakes has a gift of creating very fleshed out characters and your loyalty and empathy flips constantly between them. She has crafted a tale that just flows naturally and you are swept along by these two characters story. It has just the right amount of steaminess that serves their journey well. Oakes is an author I will be looking out for and will be going on my auto-buy list.

Kyle and Sophie blew me away, completely shattering me before picking up the pieces of my broken heart and slowly nurturing them, loving them... right back into place. This was a push and pull type, a read for me. I hated the fact that they both just rant back and forth.
When they agreed to be secret, forbidden lovers, they were inseparable, secretly anyway. The so called taboo, is what made Kyle and Sophie even more excited. The hiding, sneaking type of relationship they had was just totally crazy to comprehend. Half the time I just wanted to pull both their hair and bump their heads together to knock some sense into them.
What they felt for each other for so many years was frustrating. I hate the book that makes it seem like it's going to end to "the one that got away" type of story. Ignoring how they felt for each other was very hard to hide. Kyle was willing to be Sophie's friend if not a boyfriend. I love how he didn't care what people would think of them when they found out that they are in a relationship. Sophie on the other hand, was worried about the gossip, what people would say and especially what her Mom and Kyle's dad would say to them about being together. Since they are step-siblings after all.

I couldn't put the book down because I just wanted to know what the outcome of their story would be. And pulled me in to the point where I just wanted to get to the bottom of their story. All in all a great romantic read. I’d recommend this book to friends who love romance and want to know if rekindling old flames is worth the risk. This book is HEA with no CLIFFY.

Sophie King hates Kyle Hanson. He’s arrogant, cocky and a jerk. Unfortunately, her mom is married to his dad, so she has to live with him. Fortunately, he completely ignores her…until one night while on a family vacation, when he asks Sophie to accompany him for a night out on the town. After that night, their relationship will never be the same.
In the months before they are heading off to college, Sophie and Kyle embark on a summer long secret “forbidden” relationship. Publicly, Kyle is still trying to ignore Sophie, pretending she doesn’t exist, the way he has for years, but his feelings for her are getting in the way and their inner circle is starting to take notice. Before they get found out… their relationship implodes.
Fast forward 10 years, Sophie has moved home, after ending a relationship one month before her wedding, when Kyle comes home for a weekend and offers her a chance to get away for the summer and decompress.
The heat, (and do they have some SERIOUS heat) between them cannot be denied and it’s not too long before they find themselves back in each other’s arms. But do they have what it takes to see the relationship through? Can Sophie get over her insecurities? Will Kyle wait for her to figure out what she needs?
I went into this book blind, not knowing anything about it or what to expect. What I didn’t expect was to stay up all night, reading until the very end. I. Could. Not. Put. It. Down. Separately, Sophie and Kyle are flawed, but together they are whole. I really enjoyed reading Kyle’s POV. Until then, you figured him for an egotistical teenager who just wanted the one girl whom he could never have. It was refreshing to experience his thoughts and feelings. This was an incredible story and I was hooked from the start. I will definitely be reading more from Hayley Oakes.

Sophie was heart broken the summer before she went off to college. Meeting, dating and planning her wedding to Simon was her "safe" plan. That is until a month before the wedding he calls it off. After a month living with her mom and step dad, Kyle returns for her wedding. Kyle offers to take her back to London for the summer, to forget all about Simon. Could Kyle really help her by being just her friend or will her heart shatter to pieces when it is time to leave Kyle and go back home to start teaching? Sophie and Kyle knew each other in school, but ran in different circles. Sophie thought Kyle was arrogant, Kyle thought Sophie was the princess of the house, that is until the summer before they go off to college.

When reading Just between Us by Hayley Oakes the book has Chapters that are not just numbered but also titled. They all start off with "Just". This was clever because it gave insight to what the chapter might be about. This book also goes from present to past. I actually liked it because it was about Sophie and Kyle. This made it their story. Because this book goes from present to past the author was able to write their story which began ten years earlier.

Sophie-"I don't expect you to forgive me, Kyle, I have been a complete idiot, pushing you away and doubting that I could live with people I don't even CARE about gossiping about me. I mean, I always knew I loved you, but it hit me that the only person who's opinion ever really mattered to me...was yours". I whispered the last part. "I've been to scared to give us a chance because I worried too much about what people thought and now...its too late."

I really enjoyed Hayley Oakes writing style and would recommend this book.

Well, well, well... Was I pleasantly surprised after reading this book!

The book is switching between the past and the present which is done in a manner that I found to be complementing the story.

Sophie and Kyle share a kind of taboo love that's makes it difficult, particularly for Sophie, to proceed with their budding relationship. They already know each other from school, so you can guess that they are pretty surprised when their parents anounce that they are getting married and defenitely when Kyle's birthmum moves to Spain and they are being forced to move in toghether.

So over the next couple of years they try to stay out of each other's way's as much as possible, until they cannot longer deny their attraction to one another. They will share one hot summer toghether until they are broken up again and will not see each other again for the next few years.

Some say time heals all wounds, well not in their case! Eventhough they've both tried to move on and make new lives for themselves they were never able to completely break free from one another. It is when Sophie get's dumped on her wedding day that Kyle comes back into the picture. Will he be the one to mend here broken heart or will faith or themselves tear them apart once again? Stay tuned for a bumpy ride!

One thing I must mention is that Kyle was such a sweetheart for the way he handled Sophie.. But damn Sophie was one heck of an annoying woman at times! Why you ask - read it and see people!

Alright so the best way to start off this review is by saying FABULOUS. It’s my favorite adjective. This was a pretty fast read. I read it 2 days. It is a 5 star novel! I loved this story from the cover to the end. I had no idea how much I would love this book. It’s so nice to not worry about a cliff-hanger because like Hayley Oakes, I hate them! This is a complete novel that leaves you satisfied with no continuation of a series. One and done.

Sophie King is a spoilt princess who lives with her mom and stepfather. She shares a bathroom with her stepbrother Kyle Hanson. He was an arrogant playboy that had a different flavor every week. Did he want Sophie because it was forbidden, or was she the one person he couldn’t have?

A drunken kiss would change everything. Would the kiss be the start of a beautiful relationship or something that would just be between them that would be forgotten?

Sophie can’t resist that bad boy charm she loved so much as a teen. Will Sophie’s misery be healed by Kyle? Is he the only one that can heal her from her misery or make her more miserable and heartbroken that she already was?

Enjoy this beautiful love story with its hot steamy romance and friendship. Remember that mama always knows best. Will listening to her mom’s story on how she found true love be the determining factor in making her decision? I know I always confide in my mama, so listening to her and her advice makes me feel at ease. Sophie’s decision is made, but is too late to have the one that she loves?

I loved the fact that this book went back and forth between the past and present and the fact that it was from both points of view I always feel this adds so much to the story to see how both characters feel and think. The chemistry and sex between these two is hot.i l loved this book and its one you will find difficult to put down.Give this book a read you will be hooked!!!

A book about taboo love.....

The book is set in England and all characters are English, in how they act and speak! It's all about Kyle and Sophie, step siblings!

It's mainly told from Sophie's POV, but we get some of Kyle's too, it also flits from past to present, not in an annoying way though it's done so you can see how the relationship between them developed in the past and at the same time in present.

Okay onto characthers, I felt Sophie's pain, sadness and eventually happiness. At times I wanted to throw kindle at wall. How anyone could say the love these characters feel for one another is wrong!? Kyle, yes as a teenager he may not have been perfect but as a 28 year old omg his adorable, you can totally feel there emotions and you will be rooting for one of them to make a move.

Yes this book bought tears to my eyes, for that reason along with story and great characters I'm giving this book a strong 4.5 stars.

I loved this!!! I read this gem almost in one sitting - always a good sign! I like my romances with a good measure of angst & the slightly forbidden aspect of Kyle & Sophie’s relationship really provided that. The attraction between the MCs was hot & yet totally believable. I was really rooting for them as a couple.
Kyle is a beautiful misunderstood bad boy who I just adored!!! Book boyfriend crush? Oh yes!!! ❤
Loved the characters. Loved the British setting. Loved Hayley’s writing style. Loved the structure – moving between past & present – I thought it was really cleverly done. Loved the epilogue!!!
A great read! (♥‿♥)

So to say that I liked this story is a understatement, I loved it. The characters were amazing and had true chemistry with each other. The author has done a fabulous job with the writing beginning able to have a 2 person POV story as well as jumping back to give you the past. The way it was written was very easy to follow nothing about getting lost in the jumping around. The story was not hard to fall for and keep reading, I had found that it was hard to not turn the pages as much as I didn't want it to end it was ending and on a good note.

This is the story of Kyle and Sophie who are stepsiblings, who after years cannot deny the attraction they have towards each other. This story goes between past and present, which gives the reader a better understanding on how their relationship evolved. Hayley has written this in such a way though, that is complements the storyline perfectly.
This is a well written story, and I was hooked throughout. It is a hot and steamy romance. I recommend Hayley’s work for all, and I look forward to reading more from her.

People always say you can't help who you fall in love with. Sophie and Kyle faced this dilemma in their teens when their parents both married each other and they became step-siblings. After fighting their feelings in their teens, moving on and spending ten years apart..they re-connect after Sophie's fiance leaves her right before her wedding. I loved both characters and the chemistry was amazing between them, you couldn't help but want things to work out for them.

A love so powerful it can’t be denied. A love so forbidden it must be denied. This is a tragically beautiful story of wanting everything that is wrong.

It’s Sophie’s wedding day. She is at her parents house, in her old bedroom and she is not getting married. Slipping further into a funk, she just wants to be left alone to mourn the loss of her future. But when her mom informs her that her step-brother is coming home as planned, Sophie freaks out a bit. It’s ok. Everything that happened was in the past. They have both moved on and they are better people for it, right? Well…

Kyle and Sophie have a past. Both spent so much time together, mostly not by choice in the beginning but the something happened, everything happened, life happened. But they can’t be together his dad is married to her mom. It’s weird and not okay. But there is something between the two of them from all those years ago. The attraction never faded, the need and want for each other never diminished. But they were older and stronger now.

Knowing that Kyle wanted so much more for Sophie out of life and knowing she needed to escape the depression she was quickly falling into, he wants to take her away from their hometown. He wants her to live again, to be herself again and yes, he even though she could be his again. But he would never push it and he would never be her rebound. What they had was something amazing and something special, but also something that was kept a secret from everyone. I mean 10 years ago, they spent one amazing summer all wrapped up in one another and fell so hopelessly in love for each of them. But more than anything, he just wants her to smile and feel like herself again.

Sophie is taking this opportunity away from her small town to find her way again after a heart breaking break up. What she never expects is that this trip will remind her of everything she loved about who she was years ago. But not only about who she was, but who she loved.

But after 10 years, is there any sort of a chance for Kyle and Sophie? Could they ever get past the awkward conversation of “hey, we are step-siblings?” And how would they share that with everyone else? Can what happened in the past be the promise of a bright future or will it doom them forever?

This book was fabulous, a bit taboo and completely beautiful. It is two normal people thrown into circumstances out of their control but through that finding the most beautiful bond and love. But never being able to tell anyone, it is just too hard and too complicated. It was touching and moving, with just the right amount of steam.

It takes us through a very socially taboo relationship past and present. One thing that I had a problem with was the constant alternating between past and present. It just seemed a bit choppy to me and missed a little flow to it. It did not take away from the story of the book and I would never mark down an author for a personal preference of mine. The book was still wonderful and still touched the heart in just the right moments. It was touching and heartwarming and shows the true power of love.

Despite their circumstances, despite their parents, Kyle and Sophie just seemed destined to be together. Their characters are what I loved about this book. They didn’t have dark tragic pasts. Their parents were all divorced and remarried, but the worst part of their lives is the entire subject of the taboo relationship between the two of them. But I have to say that just caused the book to progress and build.

I loved the characters, I loved the storyline and it kept me going from page one. I was quite impressed with this book.

Kyle Hanson and Sophie King has known each other since they were young. Although they don’t particularly acknowledge each other’s existence, let alone friends, everything changed when their parents, Kyle’s dad and Sophie’s mom, got married. From strangers they became step-siblings.

Just Between Us is a good 4-star read for me, I overall enjoyed the premise, the story, and Kyle. I’m all for second-chance romance, this kind is on top of my lost list of preferences, add to the fact that this is also a taboo relationship, then I’m really in.

Kyle Hanson as a teenager is one cocky dude. He’s arrogant, good looking, spoiled, and well, popular. But when he’s with Sophie, he’s all that and more. He’s also gentle, light-hearted, but passionate and possessive. Even 10 years after, he’s still moody and keeps to himself, except when he’s around Sophie and he acts like a normal human being. I sort of have a love-hate relationship with him. Mostly though, he’s a lovable jealous jerk and I enjoyed reading his POV more than I did Sophie’s.

Sophie King is a beautiful, unawarely so, shy teenage girl. She doesn’t seem to notice or acknowledge how beautiful she is to other people. So when her ex-fiance dumped her, she sulked and cried and hid in her bedroom. Until her knight in shining armor, Kyle, came home, whisked her away and made her happy again.

Kyle and Sophie’s relationship is a complicated one. Sophie especially made my head pound with her monologues and indecision. At first it was understandable, yes they’re step-siblings, yes it may seem weird to some people, yes others may judge them, yes their parents might be shocked and even get angry, but after a while, I didn’t really feel that it would actually be a problem with their parents. Their parents seem supportive and pretty cool. And it’s mostly just Sophie’s paranoia getting in the way. I want to smack her and tell her ”make up your mind and take a risk already, will you?!”. It’s frustrating. And that goes on for most part of the story. After reading several times how “wrong” their thing is, it got old pretty quick.

But since I’m a sucker for all things romantic and second chances and years-after love stories, I couldn’t seem to stop no matter how frustrating Sophie can be. And this was really a good read. It will keep you wanting to read more and find out how their young relationship blossomed and fizzled out and then how it was rekindled after a decade. And when Kyle and Sophie are together together, they are pretty sizzling.

Just Between Us is really pretty enjoyable once you start to get into it. It will make you angry and fall in love with Kyle. I actually felt more for Kyle than with Sophie. Ha! Kyle can be really sweet, possessive but really sweet and I love that side of him.

Stars: 4 stars!
Recommended to: Every second-chance romance lovers like me. Also if you enjoy the past-present back and forth.
POV: First person. Dual POV.
Series: No.
Cliffhanger: No.
EXTRA COMMENT: There are just a little too much usage of “whilst” and because I’m not used to reading too much of that word on a new romance, I cringe a little whilst seeing that word.

I was gifted this book and in return I write an honest review. Just Between Us by Hayley Oakes is a story about I guess you would say Forbidden Love. So let’s start off in the beginning, Sophie is for the most part your average teenage girl, she isn’t part of the most popular crowd, but not a loner either, Sophie is a well-rounded young woman that pretty much has her head on straight. She doesn't realize however how beautiful she is, she seems pretty naïve to how attracted most guys are to her, so we could say she has low self-esteem. In comes Kyle who seems very confident and has every one just following him around, including girls. Kyle doesn't have to make an effort, they just come to him. Both Sophie and Kyle have parents that are divorced and once they start dating each other, Sophie does her best to just steer clear of Kyle, as they both hate each other, or at least that is what Sophie thinks. She doesn’t like Kyle due to his arrogance and cocky attitude. Eventually Sophie and Kyle’s parents are married and end up living in a home where Kyle and Sophie have to share a Bathroom. Sophie does her best to avoid all contact with Kyle and Kyle just seems to resent everything about his Dad.
Until there is a family vacation and things happen between these two and they share a kiss. Sophie is not able to resist Kyle after that, even though she still thinks she hates him, her body wants him. Kyle never thought he would feel this way about her and can’t seem to stay from Sophie either. They embark on a secret attraction and meet each other as often as possible, usually in their shared bathroom which only makes this book more fun to read to me. It made me wonder what would I think if I was in the same situation. I mean they are step brother and sister, but it’s not like they grew up together in the same household, so I don’t think this is so terrible. Sophie however is very concerned about how this looks to people and struggles with her feelings of shame about Kyle, and doesn’t want anyone to know, so they agree to be secret boyfriend and girlfriend. I don’t want to give away anymore spoilers then I already have, but I will say that I enjoyed this book, I like how the story went back and forth between the past and the present, I liked how the story was told from both POV’s. What I didn’t like however is how frustrating Sophie was at times, she just couldn't make up her mind and I was annoyed with how much she hurt Kyle, going back and forth. I was happy with the ending, but I wish we could have had more time to enjoy their happiness in this story. I don't want to elaborate too much on my reasons because I hate spoilers, but that is basically the reason why I am only giving this book 4 stars out of 5. I loved reading this book and I think it was well written and will recommend this book to my friends who want to read a different book. I look forward to reading more of Hayley Oakes books.

I thought this book was amazing! It was very well written.

The story is about Kyle and Sophie. In a nutshell, their story is complicated. When they were 14, they attended the same school, set in England. He was cocky and irritating, she was a goodie goodie. He didn't see himself that way. He tried to just fit in. He was not wanted at home by either parent. They divorced and he lived with his mother, but his father didn't really want him, and mother was more interested in going out and acting like a teenager, than staying home and being a mother to a teenager. Sophie didn't see herself as a goodie goodie. She thought she couldn't ever live up to being in the popular crowd. She had a select number of friends, and they did well in school and just tried to get through the school year without getting bullied too much.

When they were 15, Kyle's dad and Sophie's mom married each other! Kyle would come to visit every other weekend only because he had to. Shortly after, his mother moved to Spain and chose not to take him with her, so he had to move in with his father and the new family. He so wanted nothing to do with them!

When Kyle and Sophie were 18, things took a turn and even though they "hated" each other at school, they began to truly have feelings for each other in private. Kyle always tried to convince Sophie that what they had was real and true, but she was ashamed, and thought people would talk about them. They had a great summer together behind everyone's backs before going off to university. Nobody knew, but Sophie's best friend, Ashley, figured it out. Sophie decided if Ashley could see it, others would be able to as well, so she broke it off with them right before they went away to school. She went to one school and he chose one far away.

This book is written in the style of Now vs. Then. The chapters flow from their lives growing up to present day where Sophie's fiancé has ended their relationship shortly before their wedding. The day of her wedding that wasn't to be finds Sophie laying on her childhood bed with her mother trying to cheer her up. Her mom and step-dad want her to go out with them, but she won't. Her mom is checking in on her to make sure she will be all right, and lets her know that Kyle is coming into town. Sophie is horrified and asks her mom to let him know to please leave her alone.

There is no avoiding Kyle while he is back in town. He is a true gentleman to her, and is nothing but kind. He convinces her to come back to London with him to get away from her sadness at the house. They will shop and vacation, etc. She will be free to lounge at his house while he is at work.

The story is a fast read and captures you with the back and forth between past and present, helping to build the feelings of true love at its finest, as well as with its ugly.

I loved this story and will recommend it to all my friends. Oh, you want me to tell you how it ends? No way! You have to read it!

~~*~~*~~*~~* Spoilerish ~~*~~*~~*~~*

I received this book from the Author for an honest review.

Okay...I am going to kick this review off by giving you the reason for the four stars instead of five. It all had to do with Sophie being a waffling twit. I liked her character don't get me wrong, but her misery was so self inflicted and the bad part is she never even realized it until she pushed too far.

Alright now that I just spit that right out let me get to the really good stuff. Now I normally do not care for book that flashback as sometimes it can just get confusing, but the Author did a really fantastic job with making sure you knew Then from Now. This book touched on a somewhat of a taboo subject of a step brother and sister having a relationship. It started in their teen years and they were both too young and immature to realize the enormity of their feelings and actions.

When the book opens it starts with Sophie being a mess because she is at her childhood home on what should be her wedding day. She had been engaged to her safe and normal fiancee and they should have been starting the safe and normal life only he called off the wedding one month before. Now she was back living with her mother and step father moping and feeling sorry for herself....

Enter Kyle, step brother. He is charming and sweet. He focuses his attention on Sophie and tries to pull her out of her funk. He brings her back to London with him so that she can escape her life a little and find herself again. His intentions are completely innocent even though he is still in love with Sophie. I love that we get just a few little parts in Kyle's POV. It helped to connect with his character even more, both Then and Now. During his younger years we get to see him as a moody asshat, but when him and Sophie really start to get to know each other you can't help but fall in love with Kyle.

So I guess you have figured out that when these two start to spend so much time together as adults that the sparks start to fly and there is nothing to hold them back. They are safe to be a couple in London because nobody they know is around. Everything is great until an emergency calls them back to their hometown and then Sophie starts to be the twit that she is and things blow up.

I won't tell you how it ends but I will say that I am very happy with the ending. I enjoyed this book because it was just a little bit different from the norm. I loved Mags. She is a great mother and really understanding. Ashley is pretty awesome friend to Sophie too. Mick even had some likable qualities.

****I would like to say thank you to Hayley Oakes for offering I Love Story Time an ARC in exchange for an honest review.*******

Sophie King has been going to school with Kyle for years. However, Sophie never thought of Kyle as a friend. When Sophie heard the name "Kyle" all she would think of is an arrogant playboy that didn't care about anything or anyone but himself. When Kyle looked at Sophie, all he saw was a spoiled princess. Sophie and Kyle never would have imagined that they would look at each other the way they did after one drunken summer night.

In the beginning, I was torn about Sophie and Kyle's relationship. At first, I didn't feel it but by the end of the book, I wanted them together. I definitely had to over look a certain part of their relationship to be able to get to that point though. Once I did, I was able to move on and enjoy the rest of the book.

I'm not a fan of books that go back and forth between past and present. However, I felt that the author did a good job with it in this book. I actually enjoyed it! I felt that it gave you a bit of their history and how they got to where they were.

I really liked Kyle. There were parts that I felt so sad for him. I just wanted to give him a hug and tell him that he is wanted and loved. I totally understand why he was trying so hard to work out his relationship with Sophie. He felt that she was all he had. As for Sophie, she mad me mad! I understand her resistance when it came to her and Kyle however, couldn't she see how much Kyle needed her? I mean...didn't she want to be the one to show Kyle that he is important? Sophie had always had a certain type of person in mind that she wanted to be with in life. In Sophie's eyes, Kyle was not that type. In order to keep herself from heartache, she was constantly pushing Kyle away and did not let him get close to her. However, Kyle gave her the perfect advice.....

"One day Sophie King, you're gonna realize that you cause all your own heartache, and if you truly want to be happy you need to stop thinking and start living."

I couldn't have said it better myself!

Seeing their relationship blossom was great. One thing I would have liked in the book was for there to be more of them as a couple once they told everyone. Most of the book is about them hiding their relationship. Which I guess that's why it's called "Just Between Us." I just would have liked to see more of Kyle happy. The epilogue did give me a glimpse of that. I just want more!!!

First of all, I want to apologize to the author, Hayley Oakes, for taking so stinking long to get my review up for this! I finished this weeks ago, but I was on vacation, and writing this review got lost in the pile of things to do when I got back...so I felt it needed a bit of a re-read before I could review it properly.

Can I just say, first of all, that I LOVE semi-taboo romances? Sophie and Kyle are step-siblings. Now, they are not related by blood, AT ALL, so this shouldn't seem like such a big deal. And yet, in our society, it's considered almost taboo to be in a relationship with someone that you're already legally family with. But, some of my FAVORITE books are of this step-sibling romance type: Lisa DesRocher's A Little too Far, Tijan's Fallen Crest High series...And Just Between Us is a fantastic addition to this group of books!

Anyway, I'm not going to lie...this is a long read. But for me, it was totally worth it! I really enjoyed the juxtaposition of the present and the past in this book. And about 40% in, I believe, is when we start getting Kyle POVs, and I was so happy to see things from his side too!

When they were teenagers, neither one of them really wanted to admit that they had any feelings for each other besides physical attraction. But when one of them decides that maybe they don't need to hide anymore, they both hurt each other, big time, and they practically don't see each other AT ALL for ten years. Ten years later, Sophie is supposed to be settling down with the man of her dreams...but it all blows up in her face. And when Kyle still comes home, even though the wedding is off, he starts to pull Sophie out of her self-doubt and misery, and invites her to spend the summer in London with him to hopefully cheer her up, and remind her that she is a fantastic woman, who deserves better than the crap hand she's been dealt. But what neither of them expects is that even ten years later, their feelings for each other really haven't changed...just like the fact that they're step-siblings hasnt.

If you like to read taboo romance, or if you just enjoy watching two people fall in love, READ THIS!

This book blew me away, the story , the characters, the writing for me it was pretty near perfection in a book !!!!

Firstly I'm a big fan of forbidden romances, they get my heart pounding, my stomach turning and this story did those things and more, but this wasn't like the majority of this genre it was a little different and I loved that.

Kyle and Sophie have known each each for most of their lives, but they are not friends in fact they have hardly spoken to each other. That all changes when Kyle's father marries Sophie's mother and the pair become step siblings, but that was ten years ago, before the summer they spend together.

The story begins ten years later on the day of Sophie's supposed wedding, having been dumped a few days before she is devastated, she can't see a way to get over her life plans shattering to pieces, until Kyle returns.
He suggests a break to get her self straight and back to the girl he once knew.
And so our story begins, the author changes from then ( ten years ago) to what is happening now , I absolutely loved this, to see how their relationship developed over the summer, how they both changed as people because of each other and the excitement of the whole forbidden relationship.
The story is mainly from Sophie's POV, I believe Hayley is a mind reader as I really felt I needed to hear Kyle's thoughts on the whole situation and his POV came along .......thanks Hayley !
I felt a whole host of emotions whilst reading this book, I totally fell for Kyle mean, moody, sexy and very vulnerable. My heart broke along with Kyle and Sophie and yes I did she'd a tear or two. Also frustration I could of screamed and banged their heads to together at one point but all was well in the end. Hayley writes some amazing sex scenes in some interest places adding spice to this awesome story.
As a British girl I delighted in the fact that this was set in England with good old knickers and shagging go Hayley.
This is the first book I've read from Hayley but it won't be the last .

**Reviewed on Behalf of Give Me Books**

This book is a beautiful story about forbidden love, at least that's what main character Sophie thought of her and her step-brother Kyle. Sophie and Kyle hated each other since high school, at least that's what Sophie thought. She though Kyle was very good looking, but arrogant and didnt have a care in the world. Girls threw themselves at him, without him even trying. It was different in Kyle's POV. Sophie was one girl he really wanted to get to know, but couldn't. After one drunken night and just one kiss their whole world turned upside down. Neither could stop thinking about each other, until they decided to be each other's secret love. Kyle wanted to basically shout to the world that he and Sophie were together and his happy, but that was never the case with Sophie. Sophie never admitted it to herself, but she was too ashamed to be with Kyle. She didn't want people to know, she cared too much about what others thought. Which in the end, it's what torn them apart. Until 10 yrs later, they found themselves in each others arm again. Kyle knows he loves Sophie and is ready to let the whole world know, but will Sophie be ready to shout to the world that her and Kyle are together? Read the book and find out.

I love this book and I love Kyle. I love that Kyle knew from the moment he realized how much he cared about Sophie that, she is all he will ever want. Sophie uncertainty of what she wanted or what she didn't want, made me feel like smacking her to wake up and take Kyle for what he really is, a good loving man and forget about everyone else in the world. This book also goes from past to present over and over. Which for me works, it made me understand where both of the characters are coming from.

I don't want to give away more than I have so all I can say is this book was a very addicting read. I love the banter between Kyle and Sophie and also the love they had for each other. HEA all the way.

Is it wrong to want your step brother? There is no blood lines, and up until age 14 he didn't even live in the same house and even though he makes her happy, and they have a spark that she has never had with another person she just can't get over the stigma that he is related by marriage.

Sophie King is 28 years old, she is living back in her childhood home because her former fiancé decided he wasn't ready to get married, three weeks before the event. Now she is sullen, moping and broken. She is the daughter of Maggie and step daughter to Mick. When Maggie and Mick got married she inherited Kyle Hanson as a step brother.

Kyle and Sophie went to the same school and were the same age. Kyle was arrogant, spoiled, entitled, privileged, popular and an all around douche! They traveled in different circles, never spoke or acknowledged each other. Kyle thought she was a stuck up princess that was too good for the likes of him.

One summer, one Mexican vacation, two hormonally driven 18 year olds and one kiss changes everything.

This is a story of forbidden love. Wanting what you are not supposed to have. Sophie is kind of annoying in her belief that no one will accept her being with her step brother. Kyle is a seriously mean douchecanoe. Overall it is a good story. I felt it was a little over descriptive in certain parts which made it drag for me some, but about midway through it kept me going. It is written in true English (as in England) some parts may be confusing for us American's but I love reading the different language styles. I would have liked a little more adult drama and less teenage pettiness. It was a good HEA. I would recommend to anyone who loves love!

***I RECEIVED A COPY IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW***

This was a heartwarming, forbidden story about falling in love with the wrong but right person. Does falling in love with a step sibling who you have no blood relation to cross any boundaries in life? In this book, we get to see step siblings who have an intense attraction for each other fall hard and fast (well really for years in the making) for each other. This book was brilliantly written! We get to see the past and present during the build up until IT happens...

Kyle and Sophie are step siblings. They have been attracted to each other for years. Sophie is home nursing a broken heart. Kyle has no idea what he is in for when he returns to his childhood home for a "wedding". When these two face each other again for the first time in years, it is sizzling. They have chemistry. They have feelings for each other. This has been years in the making behind the facades of denial and the push and pull. How many times can you push someone away though until they give up? Can we choose who we fall in love with?

Join Kyle and Sophie on their path to happily ever after. This book was absolutely amazing. It was sweet, spicy, and all that in between. It is heartwarming, captivating, and will have you on the edge of your seat, flipping the pages as fast as you can to see what will happen next for these two. One click this book! You won't be disappointed.

I love British accents so this book fed that love for me. This story takes place in the UK so we get the language and accents of the Brits. We also get a playboy-alpha male who is British and oh boy! There really is nothing sexier than a man with an accent.

Oh! And the titles of the chapters *sigh* JUST perfect!
