This book has such a unique premise & moments of really beautiful writing but there were too many aspects of this book they felt clunky or confusing for no reason. Some things we rushed right into with little explanation & some seemed to drag. I’m glad I read & there were def parts I enjoyed to counter the things I didn’t. 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ definitely feels right. Plot, pros, & cons below 👇🏼
PLOT
Zara, like the rest of the Sisters, is a descendent of Halah, but she never felt like she belonged. She was a fighter, battling with Halah’s evil sister Prisha while the Sisters prayed for peace & relied on their Stitcher to protect the realm & send Prisha’s monsters back into the sky. After a particularly messy battle, Zara discovers she might be more than the average Sister, especially as she pulls one of Prisha’s monsters from the sky & he’s mysteriously bound to her. PROS
- This is a pretty unique story & magic system. The Sky Stitcher & types of magic is pretty interesting & I’ve really never read anything like it.
- I really liked Rue. I liked his sass, I liked him liking the little things. He was cheeky & fun.
- Zara’s differences from the Sisters was really well established & we knew from the start her journey would be unique to her.
- Rali’s character dev was cool.
- There were some moments of really, really lovely writing. I have lots of quotes that I was like “oh this was pretty.”
- The last quarter of the book was action-packed & interesting!
MIDS
- Zara was fine. She teetered between really cool moments of clarity & wittiness vs. the “I don’t want this so I don’t want to learn my magic” moments & that got tiring by the end.
- I am simply not a fan of one of the tropes that was used but at least it was short lived.
CONS
- My main gripe with this book is that I think it was unnecessarily confusing. We were thrown into the deep end but I don’t feel like we were given the tools to really swim. I’m fine with being tossed in but I expect to figure it out as I go & this just didn’t give me that. I was just confused a lot of the book with the plot/worldbuilding/politics. It also took a LONG time to figure out the motivations or explanation for things that would have been good to know earlier on.
- I rarely say this but this book could have used a glossary since we didn’t get stuff built out as much as I would have hoped.
- I really wish we had more of Rali & Zara’s history.
OTHER THOUGHTS

I was lucky enough to be one of the first readers of this story. I said sure I can read that a little before bed, not knowing how the characters would consume my mind. My light bedtime reading quickly turned into a book I couldn't put down, I found myself opening this book every chance I could get. Even if it meant reading 3 sentences while I waited in line at the store.
This book has everything. A prophecy, Goddesses at war, a world on the brink of destruction, enemies to lovers, forbidden love, a little deceit and betrayal, some playful banter, sacrifice, some heartfelt moments, and so much more.
Zara will lead you through her life. Wanting nothing more than to keep doing what she knows, but when Halah blesses her she has no choice but to give into her destiny no matter how hard she fights against it. After all, the stars favor her (in more ways than she could ever understand).
Stop what you're doing, grab some tea and halfmoon bread and go read this NOW! If you don't know what halfmoon bread is even more of a reason to read this masterpiece.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Gorgeous Book With a Slow Journey
The premise of Sky Stitcher is really unique, and I was excited to dive in, especially with such a stunning edition. The cover and sprayed edges are absolutely beautiful, and they definitely raised my expectations going in.
That said, I struggled with the pacing. By the halfway point, the characters were still stuck in the sand dunes arguing, and the story felt like it was circling the same ground without much real progress. There was a lot of dialogue, but not enough movement in the plot, and it made the first 75% feel very drawn out. Honestly, if the book itself hadn’t been so visually striking, I might have DNF’ed.
I’m glad I pushed through, because the last few chapters did pick up and were more engaging. The ending tied things up in a way that worked, but for me, the long slow build made it hard to stay invested. Overall, it’s just an okay read, beautiful on the outside, but the story itself didn’t quite land for me.

I became a fan of Alicia's work when I read her first book, The Timeless Trials. I knew I loved how she crafted stories & characters and created worlds of her own. If you haven't, I urge you to give this book a try as well.

Rue wanted more than just to be Prisha's "monster"; he wanted the freedom to make his own choices, and he found that with Zara. Zara wanted to understand and accept herself, the entirety of her being; Rue had gifted her that.
Taught to be enemies, destined to be soul mates, with or without a bond to shackle them.
"And it was perhaps the first and the best thing I had ever chosen for myself. One I would never grow to regret. I would choose it again and again and again because it was mine. He was mine. And I was his."

I had such a hard time reading this story. I had to keep forcing myself to read this because it annoyed me and I was just not enjoying at as much as I wanted to.
The FMC was defiant, but always second guessing herself and her inner monologue drove me nuts because she rarely voiced it!
After 100 pages I was getting more into the story but again still forced. I did not like her betrothed the moment he came into the story fully and my distain for him only grew.
Once I was over 70% I no longer had to force myself to read the story as it finally got better and had more action, fighting, answers….
This will not be a story I will read again. 1.5 🌶️

A. C. Guess has some of the most beautiful writing I’ve ever read. Each sentence contains in depth, artistic descriptions that make escaping into this magical world effortless. One thing I would’ve liked to see is a pronunciation guide. With the unique character and location names, I found myself questioning my pronunciation which ends up distracting me from the story.
At 17% there is suspense in every chapter, however, it is the same suspense, the same threats, and it’s getting boring already.
I do believe the author is doing a fantastic job at portraying the reality of someone who struggles with their own self-worth. Someone who only sees themselves as a pawn to sacrifice for the wellbeing of others. When viewing it from this perspective it is sad and disheartening. However, there is also a part of me that frustrated with the MC. I just want to knock her upside the head and say, “You claim you wanted to help. Well this is how you help. Get over yourself and do it.” 😆
There are a few too many mentions of the phrase, “venom and hell.”
Completely random side note, I really appreciate the author giving chapter titles. There is something just so satisfying when it comes to a good chapter title.
The suspense is killing me, there are so many questions, so many unknowns. I THINK I know what’s going on, but I have a feeling Ms. Guess is going to through a huge plot twist in there that is going to blow my mind.
One thing I’m struggling with is the length of the chapters. Most are a 20-30 minutes read for me.
NOOOOO 😭 I knew it was coming, not exactly what it was but that something was coming. My heart can’t handle this!
Oh my goodness, that was phenomenal! It’s been a hot minute since a book took me on an emotional rollercoaster. I rolled my eyes, I screamed, I cried, I felt hopeless, I put the book down and refused to finish, only to pick it up 30 minutes later and keep reading. THIS was an experience. Truthfully, I wasn’t sure about it at first. Though the writing was beautiful and captivating it initially felt slow and repetitive. However, I stuck it out and I’m so happy I did.
Zara’s story and her character growth is one of my favorite I’ve read. A. C. Guess wrote it in such a way that it not only implanted the emotions into my being, but felt more genuine and authentic than most.
If you enjoy fantasy with a real slow burn, gut wrenching twists, and highly emotional moments. A story the chews you up, spits you out, stomps your heart into the mud, only to turn around and piece you back together, then this one’s for you.

This is the second time I've been an ARC reader for A.C. Guess and I really enjoyed this one.
The world building was very detailed, and that is always a plus, in my opinion. The way A.C. describes what the fmc is going through made it easier to understand her mindset as well.
My only complaint is that I felt some areas were rushed or skipped over. The big fight at the end with Prisha, for instance. I felt like it could have been done differently. I felt it needed to be more of a dramatic ending. Instead, it seemed to be over quickly and easily, in my opinion. The whole story revolved around the impending battle with Prisha, this powerful goddess with anger issues. I was disappointed a bit by the abrupt ending of it.
Maybe I just have issues and wanted to see a bit more of a struggle for the lead characters, haha.
I did enjoy reading from Rues POV. He was my favorite from the moment he entered the story. Besides, who wouldn't love a winged hottie as their own personal monster. 😉
I will add that this book had me stressed out and heartbroken for a bit, but by the end of it, I was smiling from ear to ear.

Sky Stitcher was another read that I had a hard time putting down. Which is not a big surprise considering the tropes in this story include some of my favorites; Slow-burn, Enemies to lovers, and One Horse, just to name a few. It was fast paced from beginning to end, with twists and turns galore, and no useless filler, which is something I greatly appreciate in a book. But, my favorite part of this book was how unique it was! I have not heard of or read anything similar to this. I won't mention any spoilers, but wow! Was it fantastic!

After reading the blurb for “Sky Stitcher” I knew I had to read it and I was definitely not disappointed. The plot and story just grabs you and pulls you in. I absolutely loved Zara and Rue with their slow burn, enemies to lovers, forced proximity romance. “You are exactly as you should be. And I like your chaos, Starlight. It matches mine.” So many amazing lines and fantastic descriptions. Guess definitely has a new fan and I will be checking out everything she has written. Do yourself a favor and read this book! Let “the stars favor you.”

A. C. Guess really knows how to paint a picture with her words. Each sentence contains in depth, artistic descriptions that make escaping into this magical world effortless.
With the unique character and location names, I found myself questioning my pronunciation which ends up distracting me from the story.
I do believe the author is doing a fantastic job at portraying the reality of someone who struggles with their own self-worth. Someone who only sees themselves as a pawn to sacrifice for the wellbeing of others. When viewing it from this perspective it is sad and disheartening.

stellar story
I really enjoyed the world, the characters, and the romance plot. The story is a standalone and I almost wish there was more. But the story comes together nicely, I personally didn’t find any characters annoying. The writing was well written. I do recommend this book; it’s just a fun romantasy!

Pleasantly surprised to have found this ARC sitting in my inbox!
I must admit, I was a little hesitant going into this book as I wasn’t the biggest fan of The Timeless Trials. But am I glad I read anyways!! I kept trying to put this book down to get other things done but it just kept calling to me. The action, the battles, the magic, the angst?? The drama?? The plot twists??? I was really surprised by how much I liked this book.
This book brings in so many different fantasy elements, it’s sure to have at least one trope you love. Prophecies, forced proximities, enemies to lovers, miscommunications, the list goes on.
Now for my cons:
Similar to Timeless Trials, I believe the writing in this book over explains some elements and glosses over others, but this book was MUCH easier to follow and (in my opinion) was written better than TT. We got to know the characters a bit better and we were able to relate to them more.

When your love extends to the heavens, you know it's for real. This soul searching, character redeeming, and love everlasting book was absolutely phenomenal. My heart broke over and over yet was put back together with so much passion and admiration for these characters.
Alicia has the ability to create a world that is full of life and color. I could feel the dirt beneath my palms and see the stitches being formed in the sky. When a soul was lost, I was right there grieving with the others.This book gave my imagination endless freedom, and I soared with it. Highly recommend.

I am so grateful to A.C. Guess for sending me an ARC copy of this book. I enjoyed The Timeless Trials, so I was excited to get into this one.
This was a good read. I enjoyed, mainly, the last 25% of it because that’s where all the action and excitement is! I struggled a bit to get into it but I’m glad I pushed through.
The FMC, Zara, has a unique ability that she is supposed to use to save the world from the goddess Prisha. She deals with a lot of internal self degradation and second guessing her abilities. The MMC, Rue, takes these opportunities to encourage and build her up. There was decent character development for them both, and a nice fated mates love story that has to overcome lots of challenges.
Overall the story had a lot of world building that can sometimes be challenging to push through in a standalone romantasy book. I thought it was a good story with a satisfying ending!
I look forward to more stories from A.C. Guess in the future.

While the concept was good, the execution was not. The characters all felt flat to the point that I really did not care what happened to anyone. There was next to no real character development, and the world building wasn't great. There was definitely no chemistry between the FMC and MMC. You'll actually get whiplash from how quickly the FMC goes from "I hate him and can't trust him" to "we just have this connection, and he grounds me." Pretty sure it happens in like 1-2 days. The repetitive nature of the FMC's inner monologue was incredibly annoying. If I ever have to read "amethyst eyes" again, it will be too soon. The only enjoyment I got was when it was finished. I'm actually proud of myself for not DNFing it.

I want to start by saying that I really appreciate the author giving chapter titles. This made me ridiculously happy. Also, this being a stand-alone was a nice breath of fresh air from all of the series I've been reading.

This story was character driven, with a fmc that very reluctantly finds herself in the role of hero, even though she had serious doubts of her own abilities. The magic system was interesting and unique. The cast of characters was varied. The mmc was reluctant with information but loved pushing our fmc, which made their banter and growth of their relationship fun to watch unfold.
I enjoyed that this story hit on something a lot of us could relate to, seeing our own self-worth. Our fmc really struggled to see that she was so much more than just the chaos she believed herself to be. But *he* saw her.

I received an ARC copy of this book and was super excited as I loved Timeless Trials.
There were a few times where the pacing of the story felt kind of off. The first half of the story kind of dragged with not much happening, mostly due to world building, whereas the second half really picked up and it felt kind of rushed. This could be due to the book being a standalone instead of a series where you have more time for world building without sacrificing plot. I'm not exactly sure the timespan of the whole story but it felt like it could have been only a few days. It made it a little more difficult for me to really get attached to the characters until midway and towards the end.
However, I LOVED Zara and Rue together. Their bantering was hilarious from the start and their little inside jokes were very cute. Their feelings did feel a little rushed due to the pacing issue previously mentioned but it did feel sincere and made me really root for them. I loved how supportive Rue was and how he really tried to get Zara to have more confidence in herself and her magic. How he was protective but still assertive that she was capable of protecting herself even when she did not believe so.
***SPOILERS***
I do believe the end battle was a little lackluster after all of the buildup to it. It felt way to easy and fast. I was expecting a bigger fight between Zara and Prisha instead of the easy two seconds it took Zara to defeat her once she realized what she needed to do. I also think there was a lot of emphasize on Rue being unmade by Prisha but Zara was able to pull him back and he was completely the same? We could assume Prisha hadn't had the chance to do it before Zara pulled her out of the sky but it's not actually said.
Overall, a good second publish for Guess and I can only imagine their writing getting better and better over time!

I was given an advance copy of this book. So glad I got to read it.
This story is centered on Zara, a woman from a magical group of women tasked with keeping an evil Goddess Prisha from entering their world. Prisha uses creatures created from the shadows of space to rip holes in the sky and attack the people of Halah.
The women called the Daughters use their light magic to “weave” together the tears in the sky caused by the Goddess Prisha to send her minions and try to open a space big enough for her to take control. Zara, in trying to learn how to use her powers, accidentally calls a creature of darkness to help her. There begins a journey of self-discovery for both Zara and the monster she has tied to herself with her magic. As they work on how to work that relationship, they are still trying to keep Prisha out of their world, while also fighting off threats from the tribes around them, as well as Zara’s own self-doubt about her ability to control the magic

this book was captivating from start to finish.
in a world where there are rifts in the sky with the evil goddess Prisha’s monsters coming out from the sky. Zara, the least likely of the sisters, is chosen as the sky stitcher. it is her job to stitch the sky and protect the world from Prisha’s wrath. while still learning her power she accidentally summons one of Prisha’s monsters, Rue, a sexy winged man. and they somehow create a bond so strong that neither of them can leave each others side for too long. so while starting out as enemies they have to learn how to work together to become untethered from one another and save the world while they are at it.
i loved this book. while confusing in the beginning (but i think that’s just a me thing with fantasy books) i very quickly became invested in the story and these characters. Zara doubts herself a lot in the beginning, but as the book goes on we get to see her grow in confidence, and that’s not only due to her self it’s also due to Rue. I really enjoyed this book and am happy to own it. While I will say I started off just plain confused in the first couple of chapters, the story quickly won me over. I'm a visual reader, and I struggled to picture the heart of stars and the stitching aspect that were introduced early on. A bit more world-building up front might have helped, but I also appreciate just diving right in. Additionally, there were moments that could have been toned down a bit, as the overuse of analogies sometimes felt like unnecessary attempts to be overly poetic. They were poetic but they didn’t always add to the storyline and what I was picturing in my head.
Being as it is though, as soon as Rue entered the scene, I was thoroughly invested, which is not something I often say for MMCs. When I had to pause my reading to work or sleep, I found myself looking forward to the time I could dive back into the story, which is a good indicator of how much I liked it.
My only other critique is that the final "battle" felt a bit too easy. I could have seen this book as a duology, with more time dedicated to the early on world building and final resolutions. Nevertheless, it was a great read and I'm glad to have on my shelf.

I was lucky to receive Sky Stitcher by AC Guess as an ARC. It is a standalone romantasy in the Of Dusk and Dawn Collection.
“She’s the realm’s last hope. He’s everything she’s been taught to fear.” This line sums up this book so well. The MFC is a free spirit who would rather be out hunting the monsters that the vengeful goddess Prisha unleashes on the world than at prayer with her Sisters, the Daughters of Halah. The stitcher that keeps the goddess Prisha contained is dying and a new stitcher must be chosen. The last thing Zara wants is to be chosen but when she is and her reckless magic fails to mend the sky and instead, she pulls Rue, a Guardian of the In Between one of Prisha’s monsters, from the sky and binds him to her. This starts a journey where Zara must learn to listen to the stars and her heart.
The beginning of the book was a bit slow for me, but it picked up pretty fast and i’m so glad i got to read this! This book has it all: a reluctant chosen one, war between two goddesses, enemies to lovers, slow burn, the angst and banter *oh my*, a magical bond, forced proximity, a shadow daddy *swoon*, and every time Rue called Zara “Starlight” or told her “The Stars favor you” I melted! Oh and we can’t forget the halfmoon bread!

The MFC is a free spirit who would rather be out hunting the monsters that the vengeful goddess Prisha unleashes on the world than at prayer with her Sisters, the Daughters of Halah. The stitcher that keeps the goddess Prisha contained is dying and a new stitcher must be chosen. The last thing Zara wants is to be chosen but when she is and her reckless magic fails to mend the sky and instead, she pulls Rue, a Guardian of the In Between one of Prisha’s monsters, from the sky and binds him to her. This starts a journey where Zara must learn to listen to the stars and her heart.
The beginning of the book was a bit slow for me, but it picked up pretty fast and i’m so glad i got to read this! This book has it all: a reluctant chosen one, war between two goddesses, enemies to lovers, slow burn, the angst and banter *oh my*, a magical bond, forced proximity, a shadow daddy *swoon*, and every time Rue called Zara “Starlight” or told her “The Stars favor you” I melted! Oh and we can’t forget the halfmoon bread!

Kindle (ARC) - this magical adventure follows Zara along her struggle to understand her powers from both the good and evil goddesses and how she can leverage these to save not only the people she cares about but the world as a whole. We see Zara steal a star from the evil goddess along with one of her minions (Rue) who have an instant bond (fated mates). The good goddess chooses Zara as the next Stitcher though Zara has complications using the 3 different power sources she’s gained access to. Zara and Rue spend most of the book trying to figure out how to best use her seemingly chaotic destructive power for good and fight off the evil creatures created by the evil goddess.
The first 40-50% drags a bit here and there, as there is a lot of world building and base character building in this section that can loose some readers but if you can power through to about 50-55% you’ll get into some serious relationship tension and to the real juicy story details.
The character development is fantabulous for our fmc/mmc. There is some supporting characters that had decent development and character archsand there are some supporting characters that could have used a bit more page time. The author really overplays fmc’s self gaslighting on her ability or lack there of, and self degradation to a point where it got a bit annoying. Though this did allow the mmc the opportunity to continually attempt to build the fmc back up.
I definitely recommend a box of tissues for the last 15-20% as a couple scenes are heartbreaking. There is 2 spicy scenes in the last 5% of the book, and I wish there was a bit more stolen touches and a kiss or two earlier in the book.

It was super easy and quick to predict that Rali was not going to be a good character which was a bit disappointing at how easily it comes off that way and not having more Zara/Rue direct flirtation, stollen moments/touches/kisses.
It almost seems like the HEA was a last minute addition, though well deserved for these 2 to end up happily together in the end.
