Keira Montclair is the pen name of an author who lives in South Carolina with her husband. She writes fast-paced historical romance, often with children as secondary characters.
If she’s not writing, she prefers to spend time with her grandchildren. She’s worked as a high school math teacher, a registered nurse, and an office manager. She loves ballet, mathematics, puzzles, learning anything new, and creating new characters for her readers to fall in love with.
She considers her work done well when her readers shed tears over her stories, but there’s always a happy ending! Her bestselling series is a family saga that follows two medieval Scottish clans through three generations and now numbers over fifty books.
I loved how the heroine knew hot to heal everyone. From cutting out an appendix to curing celiac disease, and saving the children, she was ahead of her time. The Insta love was a little off putting and just seemed weird.he washer and loved her but couldn't marry her because he was cursed. I was just annoyed at that but there is a happy ending and the villain surprised me actually. Good book just not amazing.
Healing the Highlander’s Heart is the 2nd book in the Clan Grant series by Keira Montclair. The entire series is free with Kindle Unlimited, and there is audio available free as part of the audible escapes package. The book follows Quade Ramsey and Brenna Grant.
Brenna is kidnapped by Quade’s brother Logan because she is a great healer, and Quade and his kids are sick. Both are attracted to each other from the start, but Quade believes he's cursed so he pushes Brenna away...a lot… The story is a slow paced, slow burn romance. There are large stretches of nothing really happening. The plot is very similar to the first book, and it looks like the author likes to use character’s “stupidity” to create the plot conflicts and drama.
Quade came off as weak, and I found his character quite flat. Brenna does not have much of a personality, she was boring. I guess I would call this fluffy; it’s very vanilla which I found boring. It reads like ya Julie Garwood😊 I’m quite surprised of the high rating… the series definitely has a following. So if you love your books clean, and not a potential trigger in sight…then you should give it a shot.
I thought at first that this one was better than the first one, but the author still has trouble drawing me in. Though the plot is interesting, it's rather tangled in places and the dialog is still very stilted and there is still much more "tell" than show.
************** Re-read 8/25/19- About the same opinion as the first time. If one more character said "och", I was going to scream!
I really enjoyed this book, and Quade and Brenna are two of my favorite characters. The writing was well done, the plot interesting, and the characters likable. I would read again.
Horrible- It is so bad, I literally can't finish this book and I always try to finish any book I start. SPOILERS>>> The hero's brother (who has more of a personality then hero , even though he makes only a brief apperance) kindapps the heroine because his brother, (the liard) is on deaths door. She heals him and the hero takes her back to his compound to heal his daughter. The hero kisses her etc..etc but he can't marry because he is supossedly cursed. Once the heroines brother tracks her to the hero (her kinapper) the brother tries to force them to marry but Quade (the hero) refuses because of the curse. He then takes her to his son's cottage (who is only 7 but lives in a cottage in the middle of the clan,??? I don't understand that at all..it's ok for the daughter to be at the keep, but not the son?)To prove the curse, since the son suffers from the same aliment as the daughter. There is one small part where a hussy that the liard slept with confronts Brenna (the heroine) and tries to slap the daughter and insists she is to be married to liard (like a women who wants to marry the laird would actually try and harm the daughter of the guy she wants to marry... unbelievable at best...) this scence is litterly a few sentences and isn't that much of a plot...The entire story centers around Brennas healing skills... Very little romance or anything intresting..
Issues with this book... The hero is suppossed to be a highland laird, but he comes off as a weak, unintresting man. His character is never fully developed and I have a hard time believing he rules a mighty clan because he is made out to be so wimpy. The heroine, is also unintresting and is also not developed. The only personality she seems to have is as a healer. She is boring at best... I seriously don't understand the glowing reviews, but I am old school romance and after reading todays cookie-cutter, convayer belt romances that just seem to be spit out, I guess my tastes run different gambit. If you still want to read this book, get it for free from Amazon or borrow it from the libary...
Perhaps I have read too many of the “Rogues with Brogues” genre of romance, but this one felt a little too trope-filled:
-Healer with uncanny abilities (almost as if she’s getting clues from a writer in the future!) = check -Laird who has sworn off love but immediately falls for the healer’s beauty and intelligence? or whatever… = check -Tender loss of virginity = check (style points for having them actually get married first) -Loose tresses = check, minus points for being historically inaccurate -Bathing scenes = see above -Jealous cows = check, style points for the witchcraft accusations -Running off away from the castle to greet her family despite warnings of danger only to immediately come into said danger = check -Getting kidnapped multiple times and then her supposedly super-overprotective brother deciding he’s okay with it because True Love = check
The first half felt slow to me, and I was like, oh let me guess, his wee bairns have celiac disease and she will put them on oats and then they will be healed for a bit and then someone will sneak them some wheat so everyone thinks that they are sick again = check.
With so many historical inaccuracies I am almost tempted to file this under “fantasy” instead of “historical romance.”
One part in here is super accurate though: a toddler running around while repeatedly asking you to “watch me!” 😆
Two books in this series down in one day. I gobbled them up and now I await the next one.
Lady Brenna Grant is kidnapped because her skills as an exceptional healer had traveled far and wide across Scotland (from the highlands to the lowlands). Laird Quade Ramsay is in need of her skills for himself and that of his daughter. There is much going on here that no one seems to comprehend.
As with the first book in the series, I found some inconsistencies for the time period but the read was very enjoyable. I love a highlander romance this mixes a highland lass with a lowland Laird. There are issues not fully resolved but you get a sense of moving on.
No abuse this time but Brenna is kidnapped for her remarkable healing skills. Of course, a kidnapping was not meant but a life or death situation meant that kidnapping was the only solution.
Quade Ramsey never thought he himself would need a healer but an unfortunate accident pushed the hand of Fate. Brenna saves Quade and her reward is his heart.
Healing a Highlander Heart is an easy, comforting read — like slipping into a warm bath with a kilted man nearby (you know… as one does). The romance is sweet and the pacing is quick, making it perfect for when you want something soft and swoony without too much emotional heavy lifting.
That said, the plot leans a bit predictable, and the “mystery” is more of a gentle suggestion than an actual twist. The couple also falls in love very fast — blink and they’re declaring forever. But hey, that does make it a fast, enjoyable read when you’re in the mood for something simple and heart-warming.
A nice pick for readers who love Highland vibes, low-angst romance, and a straightforward happily-ever-after.
I really loved this story, although in some ways it was unexpected towards the end. I love Brenna and that she's a strong, capable, and smart healer. I also really love both of the families that are coming together in this series. Quade was a little annoying at times but not the worst. The kids also sound adorable. Lily sometimes steals the show for sure.
copy received from author for an honest review This was an interesting and fun read by Keira Montclair. I found the writing to be good and the story to be engaging. When it starts our heroine, Brenna Grant is being kidnapped at knife-point. As the story progresses, we learn that Brenna is a very well-known healer as was her mother. She has a natural talent for helping people that are ill or suffering from ailments. One person she needs to heal is Quade Ramsay a chieftain in the highlands.
My only issues with the story were that I put the book down a couple of times and came back to it. I wasn’t overly interested in it. One reason was that I liked the heroine and especially liked that she was a healer but she was kind of flat. She almost seemed childlike. She kind of just went along with whatever came her way. The hero was also a little difficult to become invested in. He is wounded and healed by Brenna. When the story began I thought that Brenna was intended for Logan not Quade. The men in this story all fall in love with Brenna. She is so beautiful that even Logan and Quade (brothers) fight over her. Logan explains to Quade that if he wants Brenna he will have her… What becomes confusing for me is that Logan has a change of heart. He realizes that he needs to focus on healing his daughter Lily and not romanticizing about Brenna. So my question is this…why is he so authorative with his brother and warns him to stay away from Brenna? Also, when he wakes up from nearly dying the first thing he does is kiss Brenna. She is so overwhelmed with her attraction to him that she lets him and then day dreams about him the entire time. She is obviously attracted to him but he calls out his wife’s name when he is in his fever.
Also for a chieftain, I expected some more strength of character from Quade. He was obviously very concerned about his daughter and getting her well but most of the time he seemed pretty clueless about what to do. I personally thought Logan had more of take -charge attitude. He was a better hunter and thought out his plans more. Overall, I enjoyed learning about these characters and their adventures. Quade’s brothers were interesting and I hope that the author writes about Logan next. I also enjoyed reading how both Brenna and Quade eventually deal with their feelings. The author added some great adventure scenes that made the storyline adventurous and at times suspenseful. I will be reading more books by Keira Montclair.
I'm going to start by saying I did enjoy this book and if you are a fan of Keira Montclair's series I would read it for sure. That being said; I was a little bit disappointed this story.
Coming off of Alex and Maddie's story I have bought into a world where Clan Grant is the most powerful and feared clan of warriors in the country and on the first page a small group of warriors have disabled and distracted enough guards to kidnap the laird's sister out from under his nose. I think the point of this was supposed to show how great the warrior who kidnapped her is, but I felt like it just undercut everything that had been built up about the Grants.
That being said the book does hit the ground running with intrigue and adventure. Who does Brenna have to heal? Where are they going? What's Quade's big secret?
I only wish I had ANY IDEA why they were attracted to each other! When he first sees her his reaction is basically, "Ooh pretty, must kiss...". Her reaction isn't much more nuanced, it's basically, "Hey a guy likes me! I want to kiss him now".
Once you get to the middle of the book things even out and it becomes a sweet story of Quade and his family and how Brenna fits in and completes them. I liked the dynamics between Quade and his brothers; I actually wished that had been fleshed out a little more!
I thought Alex's reaction to the kidnapping of his sister was out of character for someone who is supposed to have such a temper. Things like that made it seem like the characters were changing at will to serve the plot. Maybe that's why I didn't like Quade as much. He's not a very strong character in my opinion. He goes with the flow of the plot and seems like more of a plot device than a main character.
For fear of spoiling anything I'll just say the action scenes and the dramatic climax were a bit contrived and awkward. Also the concluding scene may as well have been titled "This is the sum up". It was a bit stilted, but did seem to explain everything.
I'm not sure if I can recommend this as a stand alone story, but as a piece of the series it works.
I thought when I heard of she had a second book, how can she top the first one. Well she did. I loved it. Loving and caring. Two people who needed each other more than they even knew.
Her healing skills were put to test, and her thoughts of never loving also put to test. She never thought to love and her healing skills were well known in all of Scotland. A man desperate, in need of her skills. Willing to do what is needed and takes what is not his. Both heart and healing. But who was healing who?
I don't know what else to say. It had me thinking one way, as this a mystery/action/romance. When the end came and the findings known, I was blown away. I didn't even consider the ending at all. I love to be blown away. I like to read a mystery and wonder who done it. Then I start to feel bad because I was blaming others in the book. I know now she did that on purpose.
If you are going to read a book, this one is it. I don't know what else to say except this book is just as good as the first one.
I am partial and maybe a bit biased to Keira Montclair because it was her 1st book in this series which has made me into a lover of HR.
AlthoughI liked her 1st book in this series more, this one did not dissappoint. I loved all the characters and although thery were not as complex as they could have been, they were all lovable and acted in ways true to their character and history.
I felt the antagonist, Iona, could have played a stronger part in the conflict but this is so minor it did not bother me. I guess the reason for not giving 5 stars was the end. Brenna was pretty well beat up, but when rescued and brought back to the keep, she only seemed merely tired with no actions to tending her wounds. (I mean she was repeatly beaten with a log and dragged across on a sled for miles).
Other then that, I have no other criticisms about the story. I love Montclair and will continue reading the rest in this series.
So this was a nice addition to this series! After doing a little research I found out that we get to read the character’s kids love stories as well!! Really looking forward to this… ok.. ok to the story:
I love this one. I like that Brenna took both children sickness at hand instead of giving up! I also like that we have to character or characters that had a “gluten” problem since I am one who suffers from this as well! It was refreshing to see that other people in literary have this problem as will. Most authors shy away from sickness that is really a problem in our days as well as in the past. I think when you pick up a book and you can relate to one of the characters because they share the same problem as you do, it helps you see the plot better as well as bring another fresh of welling to stick out the book. Not saying this book was bad, it just touch my heart is a way that most do not.
Well done Ms. Montclair!! I will be reading the rest of the series!
Healing a Highlander's Heart by Keira Montclair Clan Grant Series Book Two Brenna Grant has become known as an excellent healer. So well-known, that she finds herself taken from her home in the middle of the night for her skills. Even though she is kidnapped...the healer in her cannot refuse to try to save a man's life.
Quade Ramsay finds himself attracted to the beautiful healer. But he is a cursed man and needs to fight his attraction. He can not cause this woman harm by caring for her. Maybe if he could just stop himself from touching her or kissing her or falling for her...he can let her go.
Loved this story. It has such wonderful characters. I've read The Highland Clan series (the children's stories) so it was enjoyable reading about Torrian and Lily and meeting Logan for the first time. I really enjoy Keira's writing. **Sexual content http://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com/...
This was a truly beautiful story to me. The first book I've ever read by Keira Montclair and clearly not the last. I love highland stories about healers and such. Our heroin Brenna is a legendary healer and is summoned to heal a dying man. Sounds like one you've read before but I can assure you it is very unique. The author uses detailed health problems to weave this story and tug at your heart strings.
I don't care who you are this book will touch you on some level. It caught my attention from the start and kept me totally engrossed until the end. The children in the story are so endearing and innocent which was so hard to read about their ordeals but yet you had to read to find out what happens. If you are looking for a story that lingers in your mind after your done I would recommend this book.
This is my first book by Keira Monclair and will likely be my last. I thought I'd never get through it... As a big fan of the genre, this one was disappointing on every level. The writing. The characters. The story... As others have noted - main character is woefully underdeveloped. The attraction between the lovers is non-existent. He wakes up and is in love with her -- she sees him and she's inexplicably (really there's nothing there) drawn to him. The dialogue/banter is stilted and repetitive. So much repetitive nonsense... And those kids! I rarely dislike a book so much, but thought since there are so many positive reviews that it would get better. For me, it did not.
Healing a Highlander's Heart (Clan Grant series Book 2) // By: Keira Monclair Published March 17, 2014 // Pages: 281
Brenna Grant the healer for the Grant Clan was kidnapped at knife point to heal Quade Ramsay: Laird to another clan. But he isn't her real patient, he was gathering her for someone in his keep. When Quade wakes up and finds Brenna next to him, healing him, his breath is stolen by her beauty. He feels he is cursed and does everything he can to not care for her. However, she may be the only hope for his daughter. This is the second book in this series and I have to say that I love it. I cannot wait to read more about the Clan Grant. Keira Montclair is definitely an author I have added to my authors to watch list.
This was an interesting and fun read by Keira Montclair. I found the writing to be good and the story to be engaging. I thought when I heard of she had a second book, how can she top the first one. Well she did. I loved it. Loving and caring. Two people who needed each other more than they even knew. If you love Rescued by a Highlander, then you will have absolutely no problems loving this book. This story takes you on a journey to a place that is blissful & full of so much love that you will have no choice but to fall in love with all the beautiful, well developed characters.
Breena and Quades story is exciting. It has suspense, sexual tension, anger and laughter.
Breena is kidnapped because her reputation as a healer has spread around the highlands and Quade needs her healing skills and his brother, Logan doesn't think he has time to take the long way around by getting her brother's permission to take her. Join their travels and see why the Clan Grant series is so awesome! I have the audio book and Antony Ferguson has the most yummy Scottish accent and he is a wonderful narrator.
I LOVE a man in a kilt! This book is about the sister from book 1.. don't worry if you haven't already read book one you will still understand this book.. but please read it... With Brenna being a healer it has a lot of medical diagnosis, if you get confused Keira has enclosed information about the illness at the back of the book...
Some parts of the book just lagged on too much to reach the end of the book. Half way through the book it didn't seem like there was much left and then it finally took a turn to surprise you but by the time I got there I had lost interest in reading the rest.
I think book 2 in the series was a good addition. Brenna was well liked in book 1 and continued to be in this book. Quade was likable as well. I think the plot was a good one. All of the Grant and Ramsey characters are well written and I want to read more about them.
Very much enjoy the characters and how they are developing from previous book into current story. Still bit of conflict/mystery and romance but not overwhelming. Looking forward to next book in this series.
Loved, Loved, Loved Quade and Brenna.. Fell in love with Logan too.. I laughed,Cried and screamed NO! Kept me on my toes.. This was another amazing book that took me out of my life for a couple of hours.
I've read this story so many times.. I think I could almost quote it..
I am so happy I tried the freebie from Keira. She is an excellent writer and her stories just flow smoothly. I'm off to buy book 4 in the Clan Grant series! I recommend her to all if you love the Highlanders!
