The Mistletoe House

Rate this book
The first in a series of cozy, heartfelt Christmas romances that will help you rediscover the magic of the holiday season.

After losing her job, her fiancé, and her home in one fell swoop, Natalie Belmont leaves the city without a plan… and without a working car. Suddenly stranded on the snowy backroads of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Natalie only needs a place to stay for the night, but the charming—and incredibly persuasive—innkeeper at The Mistletoe House has something much more festive in mind.

Now cast as one of Santa’s helpers in the tiny town of Chestnut Cove, Natalie is thrust into a Christmas wonderland brought to life, complete with a magical workshop, a snow-dusted sleigh, and a real-life reindeer. A very aromatic reindeer, one with a spleen-shattering hind kick.

For some people, this might be a dream come true (minus the reindeer), but Natalie has a problem, and it’s a big after a holiday tragedy upended her childhood, she no longer has the Christmas spirit.

But Chestnut Cove has a way of making miracles happen, and maybe a warm and welcoming community, a hundred-foot Christmas tree, and a small-town doctor with a heart of gold can change Natalie’s mind… and help her discover that the life she’s always dreamed of can be found in the most unexpected of places.

This was fine. Very good Christmas vibes, like a Hallmark movie, which I really enjoyed. The town was super cute. I did enjoy most of the characters.
The romance here is what fell short for me. It happened far too quickly. Natalie just got out of a 7-year relationship that she was pretty devastated by. Then, 2 days later she is cuddled up with Gabe at the tree lighting event, acting like a couple. That was way too soon. If maybe she hadn't been/seemed so heartbroken by Devin, I might have been okay with it, but she was very hurt. And she and Gabe at that point hardly had any interactions with each other. I couldn't feel any chemistry between them yet. That whole tree lighting scene was just so weird for me.
I loved Gabe as the love interest. He was great. But he seemed too good for Natalie. I couldn't see what he saw in her, especially so soon after meeting and hardly seeing each other. Natalie didn't really bring much to the table.
Also, Natalie was 38 years old but not acting like it. Seemed like she had a lot of growing up to do. She also did a complete 180 about Christmas and all of that because she fell in love with a man after 3-4 days. The reason she didn't like celebrating Christmas made sense and was deeply sad, but it was something that needed more, like therapy, to deal with.
Overall, a good Christmas, Hallmark read that was quick and cute, but the romance just fell a little flat for me.

Christmas or Not?

Natalie had spent almost a decade with her fiancée, Devin, when we decided to end the relationship. Upset, Natalie quickly threw her belongings into a suitcase, put the suitcase in her car & left town. She wasn’t sure where to go, but called her last set of foster parents & they told her to come. During her drive the weather became bad with snow. She was stuck in traffic & decided to chose to follow her GPS. Her car’s engine light came on & it halted. She tried to walk, but the weather kept getting worse & was not meant for tennis shoes. Gabe came across her walking & stopped to offer help. After a stop to get her suitcase, he drove her into town, Chestnut Cove, & stopped at Mistletoe Inn. Everywhere Natalie looked, she saw Christmas everywhere she looked! She soon became part of the townspeople while she waited for her car to be repaired. She even took part in Christmas activities & spent time with Gabe. She told everyone she did not like Christmas. Gabe & others in town knew she was leaving Chestnut Cove as soon as her car was repaired. A few days before Christmas she said goodbye to Gabe(who did not want her to leave) other people who had become friends & left town. Is this the ending Natalie really wanted? Read to find out!

Great Christmas Story

I wanted a book to read for Christmas and found The Mistletoe House. I'm happy I found it because this story was filled with Christmas. I loved the characters Natalie, Gabe, Faith, and all of the Chestnut Cove characters.

I love to read Christmas books at Christmas. I know so stereotypical. Snooze. Well I wasn't sure I would be able to this year after losing my mom in February, but this story delighted me.

Natalie' s long term boyfriend breaks up with her out of the blue, and she has no one. This is the orphaned hero trope only in romance form. She did have foster parents, so she hopes to go spend Christmas with them. So off she goes with her " trusty" gps. If you have ever had a gps glitch and ended up at a feild instead of a zoo, you know how your brain keeps telling you the entire drive that both the gps can't be wrong and also that this is not right. This leaves Natalie stuck in a blizzard along a stranded road in nowheresville when her car also craps the bed.

She decided to try to walk back to the town. I honestly don't remember how far she had driven away from the nearest town, but if Gabe hadn't found her ,I think she might have died. Dramatic maybe but she was headed for hypothermia and if no one found her on that barren road, well death could possibly happen.

And there is the scene where realistically Natalie should be very wary about a random man, and she is. Thank you Mia Kent. Gabe offers her the keys to drive to make her feel safe, but she doesn't think she can drive it. So she chances it and Gabe takes her back to Chestnut cove and there Natalie is horrified to find is practically Christmas ville USA. An overly decked out, cheefully celebrated celebration of the holiday.

This was horrible because Natalie lost her parents on Christmas, and has been triggered ever since, and rightfully so. She does not of course tell any of them why she doesn't like Christmas. Gabe, Faith ( the inn keeper), and the married couple who play the Clauses try at every moment for days to change her mind about Christmas and to get her to stay.

The girl who never had anywhere to go, and no one to be with was overwhelmed. Also she was changed, but she was too afraid to believe in it so she left.

Of course it all works out, and its working out gave me goosebumps. Mia Kent took every bit of the story and wove it together to make you shed happy tears.

If you are like me and love Christmas, this is a definite yes!

The Mistletoe House was a wonderful Christmas story! I enjoyed every minute of it. After her fiance of almost a decade breaks up with her on the spur of the moment, Natalie is hurt, furious and ready to flee the scene. With bags packed, she heads out in her old car for who-knows-where. With no family and only a foster family from her past, she heads toward the home of her foster family for Christmas. She didn't plan on heavy traffic, a snow storm and her car biting the dust in the middle of nowhere. From there the story evolves into one of learning to trust, letting go of hurts and old guilt and becoming a new Natalie with the help of Chestnut Cove residents and a special person that lives there! I think you fill thoroughly enjoy this sweet story!

Devin loved her, she knew that—or at least he used to love her—but Natalie couldn’t say that he cherished her. That he adored her. But Gabe… well, she could tell that Gabe was a man capable of cherishing a woman.

This book was another hit for me—I loved it! There are so many great quotes. Gabe and Natalie are such wholesome characters. The slow-burn romance was absolutely adorable and filled with Christmas magic. I appreciated how they navigated their relationship; it felt natural and organic. It wasn't forced or rushed; everything unfolded just as it should have. I highly recommend it as a cozy Christmas read.

Trigger warning: , in case you don't enjoy that stuff in your romance books.

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. This is my 8th Christmassy romance book this season and you’d think I’d get sick of the same predictable love stories but NOPE! It’s just like watching Hallmark movies, I don’t care if they are the exact same storyline just with different characters…I’m still watching them all! As far as characters, I loved all of them! It did end up being a real tear jerker once I found out what happened to Natalie’s parents but I’m so happy with how the story ended. I highly recommend this one if you’re looking for a quick and sweet Christmas romance.

Make ready for a good kind of cry

Wow the things this poor woman went through before she even made it to the hotel. Out of nowhere her fiance decided that she was not the girl for him. Packing her bag he also tells her she no longer works at his ice cream store. Now being homeless, jobless, and alone she sets out. It is close to Christmas the one time of the year she dreads the most. But with Gabe’s and the towns help she might find the family of her dreams.

2.5 STARS

Pretty much what I expected from this type of book. There's an over-the-top Christmas town where Natalie (the Christmas hater) is stranded, and there's Gabe who falls in love with her instantly. There's some nosy townspeople who push to get Natalie and Gabe together.

Natalie's anti-Christmas stance was understandable, but her overly emotional reaction to every little thing was tedious with her near constant tears.

The ending was predictable but sweet.

Wholesome Christmas romance book, Hallmark style.

I personally was taken out of the story multiple times because Natalie kept panicking about something being Christmas themed, only to then get over it instantly and have a great time. She also cried a lot, but I guess it was a rough patch in her life.

I thought Gabe was great. The ending was sweet.

Almost cringy-cheesy, but in exactly the way Christmas books are supposed to be. It had all of the Christmas elements; small Christmas town, Christmas traditions, meddlesome townsfolk, change of heart, warm and fuzzy moments and of course the perfect guy to make it all better. Hallmark movie written all over it.

A cute Christmas story

I enjoyed reading The Mistletoe House. A young woman finds herself stranded in a town totally devoted to Christmas, a holiday she is running away from. She is also running away from a broken relationship. Chestnut Cove may hold answers for her and her future. This is a good holiday story about what Christmas can mean and become.

So sweet a story

The Mistletoe House is the story of townspeople making the magic of Christmas, creating the perfect place for a lost girl in her late thirties to find the man, and life, of her dreams. A wholesome romance.

It is a sweet story about Natalie finally putting her past behind her and finding a heart for Christmas again. This gives off all the cozy hometown Christmas vibes in a little town embracing the season in every way. A great read for the Christmas season.

A cozy, warm, hallmark movie of a book read. Finished it in a few hours. Such an easy read around the holidays. Wish it was a little more detailed and longer but overall very predictable and a happy read! I liked that it felt like everything tied up nicely.

This is a beautiful stranded at Christmas romance. Her car broke down on the detoured road. When a truck finally stopped to help her whole life changed. She was in a Christmas themed town. Boy was she in trouble. A great read. Loved it!
