Hmm…. Well…. I’m not sure how to rate this one, it’s such a mixed bag for me. Maybe a brief synopsis will help explain my conundrum (then, for those who know me, it will be obvious).

Morgan, a very likable MC, gets a phone call in the middle of the night telling her a book is missing from the (very) private and mysterious library she oversees. She races to find the problem before she is sacked and instead finds a huge, panty-melting God of a being and discovers the library isn’t what it seems. She is immediately caught in a month-long, fae induced, sex-fest with said God, after which she is taken to Fairie to help uncover the culprit(s) who might be trying to destroy their world.

From that beginning the story kinda slows to a semi-crawl, while the world-building must be explained and we dither around introducing all the dangerous creatures. She is even enrolled in a fae school to teach her the basics (felt like a steamy adult turned YA academy at this point). Near the end we are introduced to the brothers of the dragon-god and that introduced all kinds of fun and interest and the story immediately became engaging again.

Unfortunately, the story just ended at that point. Literally stopped in the middle of the progression. Now, in Ms. Eve’s defense, she does warn readers that this is the first of a duology, but still… we just walk off the page? And, just for your information, there is a love-triangle/maybe RH in the making. Not sure what I think of that - depends on which way it goes.

SOPE… There are really promising and good parts, mixed with many iffy ones. *shrugs*

NOT a fan of the writing style or characters.

The writing is very informal and sounds like teenagers talking; so much “dude” and “weird” and “bestie” that it’s hard to believe the main character is a fully-formed adult. She internally monologues that she’s struggled with being physically attracted to other people and has lost hope there’s anyone out there for her. If only this was a romance novel, amiright?

The FMC decides to make a night trip to the library she works at after receiving a call from a voice she’s never heard saying a book she left outside of the restricted section is missing. She heads there without any damn shoes on because she’s been out for a night of drinking and apparently has no sense whatsoever. She is concerned she MIGHT be blamed for the book’s alleged disappearance and fired, so she decides to sneak into the restricted section which she knows will ABSOLUTELY get her fired. She continues on this mission even after arriving at the library and seeing there are people inside. The logic here is astounding.

The FMC quite literally runs into the owner of the mysterious voice as soon as she opens the door of the restricted room. She realizes he is the mysterious owner of the library, who looks inhuman but ignites her dormant lust gene. She accidentally knocks herself out running away when he starts spouting stuff about being a God.

FMC wakes up to find her best friend/coworker arguing with the God. Apparently everyone at the library but her is a supernatural being and they’ve been leaving her be because she followed the rules and didn’t go where she shouldn’t. Since that’s clearly no longer true, the question is what to do with the human who now knows too much.

The FMC forgets any fright she may have been feeling to lay into her best friend for being a lying “catfish”, ignoring the fact that she is the one breaking and entering and the God mentioned killing her as a consequence. I lost all interest in continuing at that point; I can see this is going to be one of those nonsensical stories with a dumb female lead being led by the nose and getting away with terrible decision making skills for plot. This is not final girl behavior; I stopped reading at 10%.

DNF 48% into the Audiobook

Started off entertaining and then slowly fizzled out. The heroine's inner monologue was on the annoying side. The hero is bearly with her, except for when he wants to bed her. I wanted them to exchange witty banter. Hell, I'd accept a full conversation where he doesn't threaten her. Can you tell I simply didn't like him? Her BFF was also pretty bland. The world building was also pretty meh.

I wanted to like this so much and I thought I had a winner in the first 30%. Turns out I was wrong. I've been pushing myself through this book for the last 20% and I'm tired of it.

He was the sexiest, scariest, most desirable being I’d ever seen. The fact that he was more inclined to kill me than fuck me and I still found him sexy was something to add to the list for therapy. If I survived the next few hours, I would finally make that appointment.

I have read and loved many of Jaymin’s previous works (Curse of the Gods is one of my all-time favorite series, and Shadow Beast Shifters is one of my top rejected mates stories). Gilded Wings is another excellent example of her weaving an intricate story around the fated-mates/enemies to lovers tropes.

I’m obsessed with dragons, so give me a book with a dragon shifter, and I am all in! Especially when one has such a fancy peen to work with (and magical abilities to make-it-fit).

There is extensive world-building in this fantasy romance – with a rich history of the fae world and the beings who inhabit it. My only complaint is that info dumping impeded the flow of the plot. The story started out fast-paced but kept getting bogged down in the details. I loved learning about the fae types and their magical abilities, but I really wanted to get into the action! Action and smutty times.

The book begins fast-burn and spicy but slows down after the initial mating frenzy Morgan and Drager find themselves caught in. It’s initially a MF romance with the potential for more (I love RH, so I might be biased in wanting to add any available male into the harem, even if it’s not to be, le sigh…).

Pretty significant cliffhanger ending; I cannot wait for book two.

Genre: Fantasy Romance
Tropes/Features: dark elements, extensive world-building, fated mates, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, captor/captive, dragon-shifter fae god MMC, human FMC, fae-warrior BFF, fancy peen, make it fit, size difference, possessive MMC, touch-her-and-die
Narrator: Single 1st Person POV
Relationship Type: MF+ (MF with potential for more), fast-to-medium burn, spicy (fancy peen)
Book Type/Ending: Book one in Fallen Fae Gods duet, cliffhanger
TW/CW: None listed in book

This was.. definitely a book!!

The first 40-50% was very tropey and kind of boring, but interesting enough to keep me reading. Around 60-70% it got much more fast-paced and I became more invested.
The language in general was a little too modern for me, with a lot of "besties," "dudes," and "bros."
I understand contextually it made sense since she was human and grew up in the modern world, but it was still off-putting.

The characters were very cliche and the story was predictable but enjoyable. I had a lot of fun reading it and connecting the dots (even if they were kind of obvious.)

The FMC, Morgan, was a bookworm which obviously made her very relatable. It was amusing watching her interact with a fantasy world as someone who had spent most of her life with her nose in a fictional fantasy world. She would point out tropes as they happened and it was pretty funny. I liked that though she was kind of shy and she was a fish out of water, she would always reach a point where she said, "I have to do this for myself," or "I cannot allow myself to be treated this way."
She often stood up for herself which was good because I cannot standdd pathetic/meek FMCs.

Drager, the MMC, was very.. interesting. His character seemed very cut and paste. What was going to happen felt very obvious from the beginning. But I really can't go more into that without spoiling it lol.

Overall this book was good, but forgettable. Fun in the moment but I probably won't think of it now that I've finished it.

Tropes if you're interested:
- fated mates
- touch her and die
- human x powerful fae
- bookworm fmc
- dragon shifter

The h is a very special snowflake, a human in fairyland, her only superpower is a magical p*ssy that can take a forearm length male genitalia.

Apart for the h inner monologues that are non-stop and filled with nothing, all side character have the strength of tissue paper and are only there to express how the h is great and amazing, (everyone loves the fluffy human), even the supposed MMC is very bland!

Boring, a lot of world building that really doesn't matter.

This story is supposed to be MF, but is heading in the RH path!

In out!

She lost me when she used his giant dragon cøck as a handle to sit up from lying down. That was after suffering miserably throughout the first part of the story.

The dialogue in this book made me want to melt my brain just to forget it all.

It was okay.

I was a bit disappointed with this one and there are a few reasons why. First of all, I'll talk about what I did like:

- A romantasy book lover gets to actually live her book dreams.
- The plot of this book. There is a lot going on that I was excited about. Gods, faeries and an academy!
- I liked the amount of different fae involved. Every kind of fae imaginable.

Things I did not like;
- Alot of talk about the FMC childhood and having a controlling narcisst mother but this isn't delved into at all and so leaves the reader to think, well what happened? What trauma do you actually have?
- The fertility tradition DID feel rapey. And the FMC said this but it was okay because she's attracted to the MMC. This was ick
- Despite the FMC being 25, she was very juvenile and for me this made her very unlikeable. She was not mature at all and if she was 18-20 then her personality would have suited her better.
- The world building, it was lacking and very basic and this was disappointing considering they are in faerie with so much magic and fae
- I absolutely hate Drager. The whole time i was like, are we supposed to like him? And then when we kept meeting Z I was like gosh please oh please be similar to ACOTAR with Tamlin and Rhysand and make Z her mate. I am going to riot if they both become her mate and the story becomes why choose. Drager is infuriating. He doesn't have any sort of personality, is extremely bland and broody and not in a good morally Gray way that we all love. He has tamlin the tampon red flags, I'm going to lock you away for your safety vibes and I'm not here for it
- Drager and FMC had no chemistry at all. Another reason that I hope it won't be why choose. I mean if he really was her mate then he would be the one coming for her in danger right?!

I am keen to see where book 2 goes regardless. 3 star review given the things I did not like.

This starts in a library, and there's a month long forced... org...spicy time...tell me this is a Jaymin Eve book without telling me it's a Jaymin Eve book. What follows gave me ACOTAR vibes! I had hoped Dragar was the Tamlin character.

!!!!!SPOILER ALART!!!!!

HE IS THE TAMLIN CHARACTER!

We have the human who meets a dragon who brings her to his magical Faerie world. He's controlling and locks her up to 'keep her safe'.

Anyways I was all in and digging the feel that this might end up an RH in book two. I'm so excited for book two!

The beginning of this book was definitely a slow start. But alot of romantasy books are slow at first.
It definitely speeds up the further you get into it.
I was not a fan of the short chapters. Some of which are only 3 to 4 pages long.
Overall I really enjoyed this book.
An I will definitely be jumping into the second one once it is released.

Was mir gefallen hat:
- „Forced proximity“ und „touch her and die“ tropes
- interessante Nebencharaktere
- Setting

English Version

⭐️ Rating: 3 Stars

"Gilded Wings" is an entertaining start to the series, featuring a strong heroine and a romance (with a lot of spice in many ways) set in a world filled with mythical creatures and political intrigue. Despite the often crude language and questionable male characters, the book is, overall, an enjoyable read.

Synopsis:
One phone call can change your entire life.
Morgan has dedicated her life to books and works in a special library—one whose secrets hide in the dark of night. Borrowing and returning books is strictly limited to nighttime, a period when Morgan is explicitly forbidden from being on the premises.
But when she receives a late-night call about a priceless missing book, she ignores all warnings and rules. After all, she could lose her job if the book isn’t found—and the voice on the other end of the line sounded far too seductive to resist.
What she discovers in the library is beyond her imagination: a portal leading to a world she had only dreamed of—the realm of the Fae. And one of their gods, Drager, sees Morgan as his only chance to retrieve the stolen book and uncover a betrayal. He whisks her away to his magical kingdom, and soon, Morgan isn’t so sure she even wants to return to her own world. Because not only is Lord Drager insanely attractive, but she also feels an inexplicable connection to his dragon-brother, Zahak...

What I liked:
- The protagonist is a witty and quirky heroine with a sharp tongue
- “Forced proximity” and “touch her and die” tropes
- Interesting side characters
- Atmospheric setting

What I didn’t like as much:
- I wasn’t really a fan of the love triangle, and at times, there were just too many spicy scenes
- Some scenes had me thinking: “What the…?”
- The language was borderline vulgar at times (a lot of cursing, etc.)
- The male characters were... questionable

After a long time I picked up a Series written by Jaymine Eve. I loved all the books I read from this author. I enjoyed this Duology very much, I binged it.

Morgan is working at a Library. But she doesn't know that the library belong to a Fallen Fae God. One of her books goes missing and she accidentally ends up finding out that there are supernaturals. From there things get pretty busy while Morgan tries to adjust.

I liked the pace of the story and that it were only two books. Jaymin didn't drag the story out. I had a good time reading and listening to both books.

You can find this review of Gilded Wings on my blog, Heart's Content!

A big shoutout and thank you to the author, Jaymin Eve, and Peachy Keen Author Services for the complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review!

I realize I haven’t spoken too much about Jaymin Eve before, but she’s long since become an author whose work I follow with a mild-obsession. I loved her Shadow Beast Shifter series—I’ll admit I only read the Shadow Beast’s story though. However, I had so much fun and add my best friend in this mix and we were rolling with laughter and just couldn’t wait for the final book in the series to release. The series is fully released (lucky brats, the lot of you), available for free for Kindle Unlimited subscribers. You can thank me later.

So when I saw Jaymin Eve post about Gilded Wings, I dived into the form that would give me a chance to be a part of the blog tour. I loved the author, I loved the blurb and I loved that it was a brand new series—though I realized this later. Special mention to the fact that the heroine loves books and works at a library (I’d rather not talk about the level of jealousy this small factoid raked up).

Just as all other Jaymin Eve books, Gilded Wings too is so easy to sink into. The book has maybe one or two chapters that can be categorised as introductory. The story basically springs into action and the way it’s arced is not one that I would have expected. To say I was surprised would be putting it mildly. If y’all don’t at least raise your eyebrows, text me, we need to have a talk about the kind of books y’all have been reading.

The plot I think is very slow to reveal itself and it certainly wasn’t anything I expected. The world is layered differently and follows completely different rules, so it’s hard to see the story coming at you. In your defence, you’re facing forward and storyline hits you from the back. That being said, I do think book two will bring more details with regards to the plot and story arc; but book one definitely laid the foundation for it.

The world building I think happens a little slowly and then all at once, somewhere in the middle. I will admit this is where I lost a little bit of interest, because there’s was a lot of information coming in about the world but I wanted to know more about what was happening currently. But, but, but, if you wait a bit Jaymin Eve brings it right back and I dove straight back feeling the book all over again. There was this incomplete feeling I sensed, like there was more to what was happening on page and I realize now perhaps Jaymin Eve wanted us to feel that way. If she did, she has succeeded, because when she brought those extra somethings I was looking for, I was like “Yep, this is it. This was what I was looking for.”

The pace, objectively speaking, remained the same throughout, but the only time I struggled was for the above mentioned reason, but this might not be true for every reader. All of Jaymin Eve‘s books have always been very fast paced, with lots of humour, action, plot-twists, mind-twists etc. Gilded Wings was honestly no different in that regard, while still maintaining its own personality that’s very different from the other books that I’ve read in the fantasy genre written by Jaymin Eve.

Now, for the characters. I think I would compare the character introduction to the way the world building unfolds: slowly and then all at once. However, I will say that it’s alright if you don’t remember everyone all the time, mostly because the most important characters you will remember well and the new ones will make sense with the context in which the interaction is taking place.
Among the primary characters, I’m choosing to speak only about the heroine, simply so that you can go through the rollercoster of shocks and surprises just like I did. Morgan—bless her soul—is both rather relatable (and enviable with that librarian job of hers) and a wonderfully throw hands character. In her defence, I do feel like her situation pushes her to act-first-feel-later. My favourite thing about a heroine is them being real. Anyone that can say “I’m going to stay right here, I know for sure that there’s no way I’m not going to get killed otherwise and I’m also not going to be of any help right now.” balanced with knowing when to step in, I can get behind. Be smart, people!

So, to conclude, I loved where the book was going and I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen in book two and I’m sitting here wondering how this is going to end in book two. Shouldn’t this be a three-four book series at least? Wishful thinking? Maybe.

Four and a half stars! Happy reading! Check trigger warnings, my friends. Nothing’s worth emotional pain. Also, I have so many highlights on my Kindle for the quotes I liked—there are some real gems in here—that choosing one was my biggest challenge. The book is funnnnn. Kindle Unlimited subscribers, run. This book is absolutely free for you! Gilded Wings is also out in India!

I devoured this book.

It’s only missing a star because of how this ends and then not having access to the next part straight away has thrown me. It’s not so much as a cliffhanger more like I’m missing the second half of the book. I loved the build up, loved the angst and then we rush towards everything happening and boom. It’s snatched out of our hands.

Love the MC. It’s hot. There’s spice (chefs kiss).

So ready for the next one.

Okay, I got an early copy of this book because I was excited to read it.

It features dragons and faeries, a fantastical world of faes where the dragons rule their world. A good one-time read if you love romantasy. Jaymin has a good writing style, however, this one didn't grab me as much as I expected it to.

I remember enjoying the Shadow Beast Series by Jaymin Eve the first time I read it. While reading this one, and drawing up similarities between both the books, somehow I couldn't get into Gilded Wings. The heroine loves books (Similar to Mera) and the grumpy hero is uber-powerful and thinks of other beings as weak. It also has a library that is a portal to other worlds, similar to Shadow Beasts.

I was really hoping for the heroine to show some character growth, but as the story progressed, I felt like she was only driven by the 'attraction' she felt for the hero. There's something that happens and traps them both in a ritual of 30 days. I would have liked to see some parts of the ritual, that somehow changed the emotions of the heroine - I feel like this part was a pivotal moment for her, and we don't see how it shapes her emotionally, all of it was mostly physical.

The story kind of gets boring with the constant backlash of Drager's (the H) hot and cold attitude towards the heroine and the heroine's 'stand' of not wanting to fall on his d***, but falling for him all the time and then getting hurt at his coldness. It's also revealed that she might have another 'mate' - who was more intriguing than Drager, which says a lot.

Edit: The author says this book is purely M/F .. dangggg it

I will rate it 3 stars because I was intrigued by the brothers, their world, and their politics. It ends on a cliffy and I do want to know what happens next.

I'm going to shelve this one without a rating as I don't feel like I've gotten far enough into it to give an honest rating. I"m stopping where I am. I'm just not a huge fan of the FMC in this novel. I also see a love triangle coming, and that's enough to make me stop right there.
