She’s used to writing headlines. She’s about to become one. Levity Jones is a local celebrity. As a journalist with the Perspective, her reports connect a whole city. Nobody would believe that the one bringing them heartwarming human-interest stories isn’t human. Unless she goes public. Which is exactly what the Five are asking her to do. The clans are about to become breaking news, and they need influencers like Levity to cast the Amaranthine people in the best possible light.
a teller of tales with a fondness for unlikely friendships, wary alliances, unexpected upshots, hard-won trust, diverse cultures, found family, local legends, and folksome things. Author of the Immortal Holmes series, paranormal mysteries with a steampunk aesthetic set in an alternate history & the romantically-inclined Amaranthine Saga, with all of its attendant short stories & serials.
As a reader, this account is where I rate and review manga.
Sweet story, 4.25 stars. As always it takes me a bit to adjust to the writing style and to remember past stories that might line up with this new one. I really liked Levity and Murph, interesting to add the way they played with words :)
Highlights & Spoilers: When Levity asks Murph if he trusts her- “That all depends. Your breakfast recommendations are consistently excellent. I trust those. Your comma usage is a trial." LOL
We get Torloo! Inspiration struck. “What if Levity came along? You have similar coloring. If anyone asked, we could say you’re a relative of hers.” “This is a good plan. She is a good companion for you.” He shyly added, “Your heart beats for her.” “It’s mortifying, knowing you lot can tell.” Torloo said, “It is simpler to be honest. If you gave chase, I do not think Levity would run very far or very fast.” Murph sighed. “I know you mean well, but I can’t exactly take dating advice from a child.” With the barest hint of a smile, Torloo said, “I am one hundred and forty-three years old,"
and: A surprise, she’d said. Something nice, she’d said. Murph sought Levity’s gaze and silently mouthed, “I love you.”
And as always with courting, the gift giving is so sweetly done.
I really enjoyed this Amaranthine tale by Forthright. This is set just barely before the Emergence, when the Amaranthine races decided to go public and introduce themselves to the human world. Levity Jones is an influencer. She is a reporter for a local newspaper who has a regular beat. She spotlights local cafes & eateries with the aim of amping sales while at the same time providing human interest stories.
Except that Levity is Amaranthine, not human. This will be a considerable surprise to her adoring public.
I also enjoyed seeing the entire newsroom crew. Especially the grouchy older man who, of course, is behind the times regarding social media sites.
Even so, love finds a way so I also very much enjoyed the girl pursues oblivious boy story embedded in this tale.
Highly recommended to all Forthright fans, fans of urban fantasy, and Amaranthine fans.
It was interesting to find out more about the emergency and I love the way that characters that have a passing mention in earlier books get their own story. For those with more patience I'm sure this will eventually be grouped in a book of 4 short stories.
I love the way Forthright writes. This was a glimpse into all the events surrounding the emergence. It was such a delight to see Canarian again. I definitely got the feels from Levity and Murphy.
This one wasn't one of my favorites in the Songs of the Amaranthine. The characters do come up in other stories, so it is worth reading, especially if you want to be complete.
