When Pat Boone became a Christian and experienced the supernatural, he was asked to leave his church. Their doctrine said that he had to be mistaken about the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Pat makes a good case for Christians being more accepting of one another. Christians can be empowered by the Holy Spirit. Pat stresses the importance of being open to a deeper walk with God.
I always had the feeling that Pat was about to hit me with some heavy Pentecostal theology. He obviously is more open to present-day spiritual gifts than most evangelicals or fundamentalists. But he kept a pretty reasonable tone throughout the book, except for a little salesmanship for speaking mysteries to God, etc., in the last chapter. He is not wrong about the church in America today lacking power. He is not wrong that the Holy Spirit can provide that power. For a layman, Pat showed a very good understanding of the Bible. It's just from the perspective of a charismatic. Since I am non-denominational, I had little problem with that. I benefitted from the 32 reasoned essays that made up the chapters of the book.
