Trans Anthology Project: Reflections of Self-Discovery and Acceptance

Rate this book
A must-read book for gender diverse teens and their parents, this expertly curated collection will open hearts and minds to the myriad ways people explore, identify, disclose, and express gender identity.

The Trans Anthology Project is the only book to bring you the collective voices of almost 200 trans people and their parents. It is the result of a true community endeavor that has involved 35 people who wrote stories or poems in reflection on their personal journey, along with 150 people who contributed through an anonymous online survey, with educational insights provided by a therapist with over a decade of working with hundreds of trans youth and their parents. The Trans Anthology Project has amassed a large following on Instagram and is supported by over 150 generous donors.

This book has something for everyone. Trans youth and their parents will find parts of themselves within the stories and poems of others who have navigated the gender journey. Allies will find renewed hope and vigor to continue to support the trans community. Those with little information or exposure will gain key foundational knowledge and access personal reflections that put the current political discussion in context.

Through education and personal reflection, this collection touches on a wide range of topics,
• Gender vs. Gender Identity vs. Gender Expression
• Gender Dysphoria
• The History and Biology of Gender Diversity
• “Coming Out”
• The Spectrum of Transitioning—Social, Legal, and Medical

Not only were the stories in this book moving - ping ponging between heart-wrenching and heartwarming - but the history and the science were fascinating. I am so glad I read this book. I feel like I have learned a lot.

For anyone who wants to understand the trans experience from multiple perspectives (including trans youths, their parents, and therapists), this book is excellent. Even though I thought I was pretty aware, I learned so much that I didn’t know I didn’t know. It is well-organized, approachable, and includes many first-person accounts that will open your heart and mind. I highly recommend it, whether you know you have trans people in your life, or think you don’t.

Loved being able to share my story in this amazing book. Books like this are so important, and I'm so thankful to the authors for creating a platform for myself and other young trans people to have our voices heard! I hope the stories resonate with other young people out there, and that parents and family can use it as a tool to better understand some of our experiences <3
