Майкъл Мур е голям, дебел, глупав бял мъж

Rate this book

Republican Propaganda
6 July 2012

I really do not know why I actually purchased this book but I can say that after I finished reading it I made sure I got rid of it as quickly as possible. While I agree with a number of accusations that the writers have made against Michael Moore I must admit that this is an example of the pot calling the kettle black. Further, once I got to the end and checked out some of the websites that they referred me to I discovered that this book was little more than Republican propaganda, particularly when they were trying to flog off 'I love the Republican Party' T-shirts.

Look, I will agree that Michael Moore manipulates the truth to push his own agenda, but seriously, who doesn't. It isn't as if the Republican Party is the fountain of truth and honesty, especially since elements of the party were pushing for an imperialistic war in Iraq whose only purpose was to secure a supply for oil. They accuse Moore of editing his documentaries, yet completely ignore the propaganda that was pushed to justify the Iraq War. For instance 'Saddam Hussein has ties with Al-Qaeda' and 'Saddam Hussein was attempting to secure uranium from Niger'.

First of all, Saddam had no connections with Al-Qaeda simply because they sat at the opposite ends of the spectrum. Saddam was a Bathist and a secularist whereas Al-Qaeda was pushing for a Muslim state. If any connection arose, and it didn't, it was simply because of the invasion. In fact, the bloodbath that Iraq became after the occupation had more to do with various factions fighting each other as well as fighting the occupiers. The other thing about Saddam was that he was a nationalist.

As for uranium, it turns out that Saddam didn't have any weapons of mass destruction, and while he may have had in the past, nothing was found to prove the existence of these weapons. Granted, the writers do point to evidence to support these allegations, however the truth is that nothing was ever found. If it was then the Republicans would have easily been able to justify the incursion, but nothing ever came about, and in the end they were always on the back foot when defending their incursion. Even the argument about the plane found in the Iraqi desert did not hold water. While Saddam may have applauded the attacks of September 11, he never had anything to do with it beyond being a spectator, like the rest of us were.

I guess this book represents the dicotomy of American society where the Republicans are trying to push through the idea that they are the only party fit to govern, and will do so through any means necessary. Fortunately we are still at the stage where they simply mock people who hold different views, but due to their influence this can still turn pretty violent. We are already seeing aspects of this as anti-globalisation protesters find themselves fighting the police, and the non-violent movement (the 99%) are being attacked, and laws such as vagrancy are being used to closed down their occupation (as well as criminalising homelessness). Further, the media, which is pretty much controlled by the Republicans, are already putting a deceitful spin upon their non-violent movement, and it could soon come to a point where the vague niceties disappear and the more violent elements begin to raise their heads.

Oh, and for those who are still convinced that the Republicans are the only ones capable of governing, I have three words: Global Financial Crisis. If it was not for the Republican members bowing to the greed of the financial industry lobbyists then this mess could have been avoided much more easily, and even though at first it involved overpriced houses and debt ridden banks, it quickly morphed into a world wide debt crisis affecting not just individuals but entire countries. This love of debt and this love of greed has pushed the world economy to the brink of ruin, and their only idea on how to solve it was to go even deeper into debt, effectively rewarding the instigators of the crisis. So, the Republicans are fit to govern? I think not.

Resistance to MM's monopoly on anti-Americanism had to come eventually, pity it came in this rather disasterous, incohesive collection of tirades against him. Basically it's just a load of articles pulled together, all pretty much repeating the same thing over and over again. If this is all they can throw at him, no wonder he's one of the most popular Americans in the world.

I have to admit, one of the main reasons I read this was because I agree with the title so much. However, I did learn a thing or two from the critics' arguments. It basically boils down to this: Bowling For Columbine was a crock of shit, edited to show and tell only what Moore wanted it to, so that it would give his opinions on the matter instead of a well rounded argument on the big picture like a documentary is supposed to. It was Columbine and gun-ownership in America according to Moore, not how it actually is. He played off the emotions of gullible, hipster, know-it-all college students and dumb-ass, detached celebrities, so of course it did well at the awards shows.

Moore's depiction as a narcissistic entertainer was a bit of a slap across the face and tarnishes my appreciation of Bowling for Columbine and Stupid White Men; Splicing of interviews is manipulative

Only complaint of the book is that it is redundant in its evidence of Moore's greed and nonsense (essays) ; Either more research should have been undertaken or cut out chapters that regurgitate

Interesting Thoughts

- Fired from Mother Jones and settled out of court for $58M
- Moore was not born in Flint but Davison which is far more upper class than Flint
- Has houses valued at $3.2MM in Michigan and New York
- Moore does well in Europe because of the general disdain that Europeans have for Americans
- Look at any documentary and there is staged incidents
- There is no truth in a documentary - there is only presentation of ideas
- Charged the parents of the Columbine students for a special screening of BFC
- JFK leads you to believe that Lyndon Johnson was in on the Kennedy assassination
- Moore, Franken, O’Reilly are all political entertainers and nothing more
- No matter what the subject the main product is Michael Moore
- The narcissist never talks - he lectures
- Essay on Elian Gonzalez caused a furor as he blames the mother
- Moore charges $20-30M a speaking engagement – gets unruly w those who use his same tactics

Roger and Me
- Pointed out that in Roger and Me, the events that Moore depicts as being responses to GM actually occur years before the layoffs
- Larry Stecco sued and won for wrongful image in Roger and Me - was hijacked by Moore at his social gathering

Stupid White Men
- When Moore states that 44MM Americans cannot read he includes 11MM immigrants and 9MM visually impaired
- 200M Mad Cow disease potential was in fact another disease
- Barnes on the Iliad and Odyssey never happened
- Bush donations was soft money and equal to Democrat donations
- Budget for Air Fighters was drastically over-stated
- The dubious events of George Bush were plagiarized
- What he says has validity it is that he goes overboard to get the adulation

Bowling for Columbine
- Heston rally that was described as one week later was eight months later
- Spliced the speeches including ‘from my cold dead hands’ - which was from Charlotte a year later and in reference to freedom not Columbine
- Heston interview was 23 minutes and Moore hijacks Heston
- The Kayla photo shoot was added in after the fact
- Some processes in getting the gun were left out - Moore would not qualify
- Little boy that killed Kayla in Flint came from a druggie family - that should be more of a concern over welfare
- NRA was not found in the same year as the KKK
- Homicide rates are falling - it is the media coverage of the homicides that is going up
- Columbine killings occurred on Hilter’s birthday

Dude Where’s Your Country(/i>
- Bin Laden’s are a wealthy powerful family who control Saudi, Arabia – of course they will have ties to Bush
- The use of planes to fly out the Saudis were for there protection and they were interrogated before they flew out
Salman Pak - a terrorist training facility in Iraq – where Al Qaeda trained
- His account of the San Diego police issue is way over-exaggerated

If half of the stuff in this book is true, Michael Moore is a dangerous man. The authors have meticulously documented their sources and findings of outright disregard for and manipulation of the facts. And if the facts don't fit to help make his point, apparently he will just make up new facts. I was never a fan of Michael Moore (I thought his Roger and Me was humorous but not after learning how he put it together-more fiction than documentary) but didn't really care for his wash-rinse-repeat formula for his other works. And after reading this book, I would not trust anything he puts out. The book is well written but there is some redundancy about how Moore does what he does. It was a very fast read and had me alternating between disgust and anger as the authors developed their case and gave many examples to show that he has no qualms about distorting the facts, doesn't know the meaning of loyalty, and just wants all the credit for himself. And it appears that anyone who disagrees with Moore is part of a conspiracy against him. I wish Moore's fans who follow him so blindly would all read this book; it might open their eyes to reality.

David Hardy and Jason Clarke subject Michael Moore, his books, and his films, to a detailed and well-documented study as to how Moore edits and obfuscates the truth, as well as fabricating stories and telling lies to convey his story. They clearly explain how Moore edits audio and video footage to portray unwilling participants as villains - and they give clear explanations of the real events.

Hardy and Clarke delve deeper into Moore's background and his behavior: his dismissal from Mother Jones, and his narcissistic behavior and inclination to blame anyone but himself for criticism. They cite specific quotes in which Moore exaggerates his importance to left-wing politicians or lashes out at those who criticize him. They document how even left-leaning journalists like George Stephanopoulos and Jake Tapper have questioned Moore of his work. Moore predictably parses his words to maintain a patina of factuality, or hides behind the shield of satire.

Perhaps most damningly, Hardy and Clarke show how Moore has adopted the "blame America first" attitude of terrorists, amplified it, and monetized it for himself. Moore has turned a blind eye to when Hezbollah and Al-Qaeda have parroted his own work.

All of this contrasts to how Moore has faded from the public eye over the last decade. The book cites how even (Democrat) Leon Panetta lamented that Moore was not a good standard-bearer for the Democratic party. Perhaps even left-leaning Americans have gotten wise to Moore's self-serving and untruthful antics?

Michael Moore is an admitted liar... Yet, he continues to accuse others of the same, but justifies his as "journalistic license", but a documentary, yet.

A true documentary presents the facts and lets the viewer decide for themselves... Big Mike has his "twisted, hypocritical, conflicting" beliefs that he fits "his" story to fit!!!

These guys do a great job exposing "common-man" Mike as the hypocrite that he is(ie claiming to live in a "cabin" in Flint while he has a condo in NY city and a huge house in another city / town in MI!!!

Although this book was published in 2015, the title still remains accurate. LOL.
In fact, he (Moore) is probably fatter, stupider and whiter. (Ok, not sure about the whiter).
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah and a very Happy New Year to all !!!

Th[e] general belief in the inherent iniquity of American capitalism, the evil of all corporations, and the elite conspiracies to defraud ordinary Americans are all classical tropes of the paranoid American left, and Moore endorses every single one of them. There's almost a beauty in the way he backs up every left-wing prejudice, from hatred of successful white people, to hostility to car owners, the ability to drop Sweden into every argument about the welfare state, and the notion that capitalism is always a zero-sum game in which every gain for the rich is always a loss for the poor [pg. 60]

While I admit that the above quote summerizes my feelings of Moore and his works, unfortunately I didn't find this book to be as informative or enlightening as I had hoped.
I did gleen a few tidbits that I had previously been unaware of (Moore's employment on GM's assembly line lasted all of one day; the discrepencies in Unger's accusations revolving around the interrogations of Zubaydah regarding 9/11), and I will look forward to Mike Wilson's documentary Micheal Moore Hates America, but overall I tend to agree with [another reader]'s review in that much of the book tend to be reiterated several times - a charge they attribute to Moore as well.
Personally, I view Moore as nothing more (or less) than the flip side of Rush Limbaugh and his ilk, as I believe standing too far out on either limb is a dangerous thing. I guess I just found the tone of this book to be quite similiar to that which it is rallying against. I would prefer more substance, and less grand-standing by both sides.

I read this originally to give equal time to the right that writes these books. I can't ever seem to understand Ann Coulter or Michelle Malkin, but at least I know enough about Michael Moore to understand this book. I loaned this book out on bookcrossing.com in what is called a "book ring" but it ended up captured by a military wife. The most interesting person on that ring was a Michael Moore supporter that said something like "he's poking holes at someone poking holes" which seemed to mean he was against Michael Moore? or that Michael Moore was not really from Detroit wasn't a good enough reason to write a chapter. I learned that Michael Moore is not reliable. Though that should be obvious to anyone when he brings out the flag at the end of his movies, becoming just another propagandist.

Ok it's right wing but why I read and enjoyed this book is because Moore IS a big fat liar! Like a lot of other so called 'documentaries' or 'mockumentaries' you really need to do your own research to get to the truth and not take things on face value.

Moore is the one of the worst at what I call leftist propaganda for the gullible masses. Moore lies so often and offers up ridiculous 'theories' in his books and movies that his whole argument of 'lying governments' and 'dishonest business people' makes him look sad and at very least hypocritical.

Read this book if you are already one not to be easily sucked into populist propaganda - if to just confirm your fears of muck rakers. Or if you still believe Moore's movies and others like Al Gore - YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK!

When I bought this book I actually thought it was Michael Moore's book, but I read it anyway. And I'm glad I did. Up until that time, I'd never really given much thought Moore's credibility, though his documentaries had seemed vaguely compelling, especially Bowling for Columbine. Now I have learned everything Moore shows or says has to be checked and double checked. And while I usually agree with Moore politically, I've stopped taking him seriously.
It's been years since I read this book, and I no longer own it, so I can't check whether everything the authors say is actually true. But when I started paying more attention to Moore's editing, I could clearly see they were right about that.

Well this book's title says it all. I hate Michael Moore with a passion and the authors of the this book just re-enforce that. This book is basically about Moore's movies and how they are all full of s##t. They break down his movies scene by scene and take apart all Moore's so-called truths. Although it is a little dated now, it is still an interesting book to read. So if you hate Michael "I am getting fatter with every movie I produce because I can afford to bathe in gravy" Moore, this book is for you.

If you think Michael Moore is just a huge ass who makes documentaries for profit and not for truth, then this is the book for you. A left wing nut job to his core, Moore has his film "Bowling for Columbine" picked apart piece by piece to show how the truth was manipulated for Moore's own gain. From the tile of his movie (Moore claims the shooters went bowling with the bowling team the morning of the massacre - they didn't), to the end credits, This shows difinitively just how big an ass Moore is.

Intriguing--although out-of-date (It speaks of "Fahrenheit 911" as "coming out soon"), it takes literally every book and movie that Moore has made and picks it apart, piece-be-piece, to show the inaccuracies and fallacies of his work. It then shows (in both the main body of the writing and the bibliography) sources of information that prove that Moore lies, cheats, and steals in an attempt to make money off the misrepresented fear of others. I definitely recommend this book to any and everyone, whether you love, hate, or are indifferent to the works of Moore.

To me this book was significant because of when I read it, which was when I was like 12. At the time I idealised Michael Moore due to a few of his books and movies, this book gave me a nice and verified shining contrast of what I thought of him as a person.

I didn't become some right wing nut job, but, it did teach me something really important. That its worth investigating everyone and everything before you start spouting rhetoric. I'm not sure that was the intention of the authors, but I did enjoy reading this book and the impact it had on later down the line.

Well I picked this up cause of the title. I found this was an enlightening read for me. Guess I'm one of those that fell for all his lies. I've watched all his movies and of course, believed what I was seeing. that is..until I read this book. Well written and well researched as you can tell by the extensive Notes and Sources section in the back of the book. I'm glad I read this cause I now agree with the title.

I am a big detractor of Michael Moore and his lies and propaganda, and while this book illustrated a great number of Moore's lies and personal flaws, it seemed a bit repetitive and light on when it came to real arguments. I feel that there could be a better account of why fans and viewers should be wary of Moore's claims and techniques. Further, it seemed to have a Republican bent, and I feel that it would have more weight from a neutral or Democrat point of view.

Talk about an expose!! This is a must read, for all you that hate him and even more so, to open up the closed minds of those that "love" him.

He's the master of "Do as I say, not as I do" and, like most elitist socialists, thinks himself above everyone else... most especially those he leads around by the rings in their noses!

While this book certainly does a good job of building a case against Moore, the fact is that I'm just not interested in the man. I'm not intrigued to hear his side of the story, and have no desire to learn anything else at all about him. Hardy and Clarke have done a decent job instructing me about their views of Moore, but that's about it.
