David "Dav" Pilkey (b. March 4, 1966), is a popular children's author and artist. Pilkey is best known as the author and illustrator of the Captain Underpants book series. He lives near Seattle, Washington with his wife, Sayuri.

The Ricky Ricotta books are very simplistic. Good vs. Evil. Good always wins. Everything turns out great in the end. Kids have no consequences for their foolishness. Ignorant parents and teachers have no idea what's going on. A ridiculous justice system puts evil interplanetary masterminds in the town jail. A regular kid saves the Universe. An author writes the same story nine times and people keep buying the books. Idiots like me keep reading them. It's everything we love about America.

Major Monkey from Mars has plans to invade and take over Earth, and enslave the inhabitants of Squeakyville. Ricky and his Robot are summoned to help stop Major Monkey and save the Earth. Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot vs. The Mecha-Monkeys from Mars is about a boy and his robot protecting each other and the world. They would always get introuble and get punished, but they always seem to look out for each other. Until one day they meet Major Monkey and his robots who want to rule the earth and destroy Ricky and his robot. They try tricking Ricky into bringing his robot to Mars and trapping him so nothing can stop them from taking over the world. A battle forms between Ricky's robot and the monkeys to conquer the world but together Ricky and his robot save the world.

I would recommend this cartoon story to anyone who likes a good laugh, and I would be interested in reading the series. This was an interesting story between a boy and his best buddy who was a robot. This did not seem to matter to the boy because they were really good friends. My favorite part was when the general offers to give Ricky something and he says " I would like a new minivan rocket," his parents are surprised by the minivan rocket that was given to them by the general and together Ricky and his robot race against his parents home. This was a great imaginary story a bout two best buddies looking out for each other.

This new edition of Dav Pilkey’s much- beloved early chapter book features new color illustrations and slight modifications to the original text. Dan Satat’s illustrations reflect the action of the story and give it a comic feeling. The flip-o-rama section benefits greatly from the addition color. Readers ready to move past easy readers but not quite ready for chapter books will love this fast paced story of Ricky and his robot rescuing earth once again. Librarians everywhere will rejoice as they replace worn editions with colorful new ones.

It's Awesome!

(A kid review) You would give it a hundred stars if you could! I love this book. I want a rocket minivan just like Ricky's. This book is too funny. A robot controlling a robot? What is that making sense about? When you do the flip-e-rama just have your iPad facing up so you can flip back and forth. Love the book!

Miss 3 loves Captain Underpants and now we've worked our way through almost all of Dav Pilkey's Ricky Ricotta books as well. They haven't captured her at the same level of sparkly LOVE as C. U. but she enjoys them enough to re-read them the following week. Although our library has these at the same reading level as C.U. they are much shorter and quicker to read. They're also more positive in general and a good entry for younger kids. As a parent, I love how the series works its way through the solar system and has little facts about each planet! Also, how the local jail slowly fills up with each arch-villain!

Ricky Ricotta and his Mighty Robot love adventures together! Sometimes they get a little out of hand, like when they crush the minivan! When a spacemouse appears and needs help fighting off the attack on Mars, Mighty Robot can’t pass up the challenge! This book takes us through the challenges that continue to arise! With Ricky be able to swoop in and save the day? Dav Pilkey has done a great job writing another series for struggling readers! This book is very simple and contains comic-like illustrations on every page. This allowed my struggling readers to feel the success of reading a chapter book and “fit in” with the size books they are reading. The inclusion of Flip-O-Ramas and How To drawing guides were a fun bonus! Would recommend for lower elementary students!

hmmm, don't know what to think of this book.
The story is about fighting evil. And of course Ricky's robot wins.
The trouble that they cause ends up being forgiven (destroying mom and dad's mini-van) because they saved the earth from evil Mecha Monkeys from Mars.
The book ends with how-to-draw instructions.

We are probably just reading this because we read almost everything Pilkey has put out. I'm not crazy about this series and honestly my son (6) isn't too crazy about it but he likes it "okay." So here we are with a solid "It's okay" rating and shrug.

Read it before starting it with a group of students for literacy groups. A great, small, chapter book that I think my students will love! I hope it will inspire them to look for more chapter books they will enjoy.
