What would you do if you were granted every boy’s dream?

In the world that Jay was born into he is a rarity, a male child. Boys are rare and less than half are blessed by the system with a class. The rest are stuck forever in a boy’s body, unable to become men, and unable to advance.

The system grants many classes, most of them common. Nine of ten children who receive a class and become adults receive a common class, the others will receive uncommon, rare, or if truly blessed an exquisite class. Above even those are the Legendary classes, granted to less than one in a thousand. Those blessed with a legendary class, live lives lasting hundreds of years, receive skills others can only dream of. Wealth, status, power, all of these will be yours if the system chooses you.

Today is Jay’s last chance at a class. If the system doesn’t bless him today he will remain a child for the rest of his days. Boys who stand in front of the system obelisk for a fourth time are almost always cast down as classless, but the few that are not will all receive powerful classes, maybe even Legendary.

But for boys dreaming of becoming men, there is a Legendary class that all desire above the rest.
Follow Jay in his first week as he learns what it means to wield the most desired class of them all. Women throwing money at you, desperate to have your child sounds like a dream come true. In many ways the class is all he dreamed of and more. Learning that sometimes boyhood dreams do come true makes it the best week of his young life. But it’s not all naked women and orgasms. For Jay this class has special meaning, little of it good.

Becoming a man overnight isn’t easy. Adjusting to his new role in society, dealing with small town politics, starting a business, hiring employees, and helping a friend makes for a busy week. Not to mention helping his family adjust to the system having made him into something that cannot be discussed at home.

He won’t have to do it alone, one of his instructors knows the responsibility and temptation that comes with a powerful class. She will guide and humble him through these formative days, but she also has secrets. Secrets that have to do with his past and his new class that could destroy everything if they got out.

Follow along as Jay learns what it means to become A Breeder.

This was much better than I was expecting. It had more depth to it than I thought it would. In this world people gets classes. Women can get them at 14, men can get them later. In this world until you get a class, you are a child. Your stats are maxed at 10. There are way more women in this world than men and they have an advantage. There are way more women than men and they have a much better chance of getting a class than men do. There is something like a 50% chance for a man to end up classless, which pretty much means his life is over. They can't really get a job and most end up killing themselves. The story follows Jay. He is 18 years old, and this is his last chance to get a class and have a life. Overall this one had more depth than I was expecting, and I am looking forward to the next.

Very well written...
This book is one of the best i have read in a long time of its kind.
It has a REAL story behind it.. Not just a bunch of sex scenes with a poor afterthought of a story.

Really enjoyed the entire book...
I hope the author writes more of this series.

(Edit.. I had to come back and add more. You see this book was special. Not once did i stop and think. Wow the MC is a idiot. A RARITY in books now days. I also did not pause and think.. That doesn't make sense at all. The author did a exceptional job in drawing me in. Its a rare book these days that has that capability. Usually i see where things are going at the first hint of foreshadowing.

I wish more authors who write this sort of material would take note of what this author has done. Too often its badly written and it makes one wonder if the author had ever had sex before. God help their wives down the road with some of the authors out there..

I like the story, but there is a LOT of sex interspersed. This is not surprising, and honestly it's not what loses it the 5th star. There is a big exposition dump in the later part of the book which really derailed things which I can't grade on the curve.

Tackles some heavy concepts, and the author mentions that they are working through some of their own experiences. Adds depth, but isn't a lot of fun to read about. It did hold my attention overall so I'll check out book 2 when it arrives to see where this goes.

I really hope this one continues... so great

Mr. Oliver has crafted the beginnings of a great example of how the genre should truly be in every way. From character crafting to helping bring light to dark and painful issues, he unflinchingly gives us his best. Thank you sir, can I have more please?

I like the idea of the book and it has a lot of interesting scenarios. It is also enjoyable to read at times.

I would consider it a great book except for a number of rather annoying things:

-my biggest gripe is how lame and useless most of the subskills are. almost none of them are useful for Jay in particular.
-why does Jay assign only 1 stat point so far and why put it into constitution? endurance and virility seem important....
-why waste everyone's time and sanity writing so many pages of proper 'informal' party protocol/behaviour? who is interested in reading 5-6 detailed pages of this? I just skipped it.
-the 'blue bitches' seem very weak. couldn't he have gotten anyone a bit more powerful? I assume he will add 1 or 2 stronger women from the barony....
-
-if you aren't going to give any detail about the situation with Luna/Danielle why even bother having that happen in the first place?
-how can someone punch 12 inches into concrete (without hurting themselves or damaging the structure even)? it seems more than a little ridiculous.
-the detailed descriptions of the things Chris did, along with Evie's/Sarah's/Leah's experiences, are inappropriate content for a book intended to stimulate fapping. too much detail, too graphic/traumatic and it takes up too much of the content. I understand the author's desire to include it but it works directly against the sexual fantasy aspect of the book and a 'turn off' for most. perhaps a separate book or essay would help unburden the author.

Honestly one of the best books of its kind 4.5 stars.

Jay is just a random boy is a world that lives by The System. It grants classes, stats and bonuses to people to offset the harshness of the world around them. There are monsters and a low tech level, but far more relevant to this story. A starkly offset birthrate. Far fewer boys then girls are born, and further still few boys gain classes and grow into adult men. Jay is such a boy when on the last chance he gets he receives the Legendary Class of Breeder. As crude as that sound it is The System's way of compensating for the dismal birthrate and enormous gender imbalance.

What follows is both an erotic fantasy story, but also an exploration of the ethics, morals and realities if living in such a world. As much as it is spicy it is als a thoughtful book. Jay gets if have both the benefits of his class, but also has to confront the fact that he now has te run a business, hire employees, mind his safety and deal with those that would exploit him to keep the birthrate of their local communities up.

This novel was unexpectedly far better than expected. As such I'll be waiting excitedly for the next novel in the series.

Starts with a cool litrpg that promises smut and adventure. Cool. The guy gets a breeder class. Then the author proceeds to dedicate 40 chapters to the business of breeding, sex and introspection. What the actual fuck. With the premise of the mc being the single most desired male I am baffled how unsexy he was capable to making the whole thing. By the time some woman was in his bed the story was as sexy as a doctor having his first patient with a cough.

Also, the author introduces a classless character that would be a great plot hook. She was in the same situation as the mc but flipped the bad side of the coin. You thought the mc would feel sympathy for her and she would be his first? No, just forgotten and thrown away. What a waste of a story premise.

I enjoyed this for what it was and what it tried to do. The MC is deeper than one would expect and it felt like there was some thought put into the consequences of what was thrust upon him by the System. The storyline of Evie was good and helps build the MCs foundation.

The main downside is that the writing often derails into a stream of consciousness narrative. I'm not certain if this was intentional but it seems there could have been more editing. Also the info-dump about the party was very out of character for the rest of the book and drug the story down when it should have been building to a climax.

Overall a good story and I look forward to the next installment.

Grammar is HORRENDOUS. It's impossible to get past it. The quotation marks make ZERO sense so it's really hard to know who's talking (and many times marks are completely missing). Tenses are mixed up so one sentence it's the past the next the present. Inappropriate capitalization. It was so confusing that I marked off two stars for it, it's so bad and detracts from the story so much.
The story itself is decent for what it is: porn. You can't expect Shakespeare from a book entitled "The Breeder" so you know what you're in for. It was fine for what it was.

A decent story, though rough in spots

So, it's a porn premise, so already I was sus on it's quality. That being said it did have a charm to it that carried things well. I like the positivity about coitus, the fact that the MC cares about their needs.
That being said he shouldn't have needed such a tragic/ evil background to be a decent human being.
There are mentions of SA, so definitely take that under advisement when you read this.

The reasons it's only a middle score? Editing is rubbish. Hire an editor, the fact some of them should've been caught with a simple proofread it's inexcusable.

Also, too much unnecessary info dumps. Backstory of his friend? We don't need almost a whole chapter on the backstory of how some guy ended up where he was. Fancy dinner party? We don't need an entire chapter on every last minutiae of etiquette there. Some key points, mention he grills the others on it awhile then only mention something if it's important to something plot related.

Overall though I did enjoy it, pick it up on KU or maybe with a very nice sale price unless the editing is fixed.

Brilliant... But...

I do not normally grant reviews, but in this case I concede an exception.
The author has invented a believable universe, the story flows like a stream, the main character is not an overpowered egotist, as in so many other stories, and I hope that the author keeps him that way, too.
The social interactions are beautifully described - I loved the 'rules' for informal parties! The sex scenes - lots of them - are handled very well and each is different. What did you expect? This is a book about a "Breeder" class.
I am truly looking forward to the continuation of this series.
But.
This author really, really, needs to buy themself a copy of "Grammar for Dummies". With special emphasis on the capture, taming, care and use of the wild apostrophe.
They are writing the way they talk, and falling straight onto the "There, their, they're" grammatical Punji sticks. They also need a crash course on not putting in random commas.

Did I mention that I am looking forward to the series' continuation, despite all that?

Weird haremlit novel

The main thing I found uncomfortable is the fact that the mc has a lot of sex with people in serious relationships. A close second is that despite all the sex, he hadn't truly started his harem by the end of the novel. Then there's the fact that the mc is incredibly passive through the book due to overbearing and unlikable characters forcing him into things. (Leah is the worst one in this regard.)

That being said, if you can look past all of that there's a lot to like about this book. The sex scenes are well written and varied for one. For another the characters are realistic and I found myself wishing I had more time to get to know many of them, but most unfortunately don't get much screentime.

I'll be getting the next one, but there are definitely things I hope change in the next one, like less screentime for unimportant one-off characters the mc will have sex with once and never see again.

Surprising amount of world building and plot

I like to write reviews for books that surprise me with quality and Hometown Hero definitely fits that description. The care put into the world building and into the characterization really puts to shame a lot of the more cookie cutter novels in this genre.

As a word of warning, this is not necessarily a traditional harem story. A lot of the relationships that the main character has are probably never going to be brought up again. If you read the blurb, you probably can understand why. That said the quality in which they were written was readily apparent and I really recommend this book.

Looking forward to the next one.

Rating: 4.5 stars

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I had originally dismissed it as just erotica, but as other reviewers pointed out there's a lot more to it. Yes there's plenty of erotica, but it does have plot as well. The world is interesting and the important characters were well written with personality. The writing more generally could use a bit of work, as expected for a first time author, but it's pretty good overall. There are some points where the author gets too deep into irrelevant explanations, the worst being the 5 pages spent explaining rules for a party. It's fancy, we get it, move on. Overall though I thoroughly enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next one.

Well written, fascinating

An exciting story that, while not clearly stated, introduces a new method of birth control. Imagine being a man whose duties places him in a "system" where he is to impregnate willing women. And they actually pay for his inseminating them, creating a new generation. Men are rare, multiple women creating families, with or without men. This initial story promises more sex and hints at future danger. Can't wait for the next one!

In a postscript, the author reveals emotional pain that influenced the story that I could identify with. Thank you for that insight.

Would have loved to finish this, but man, so so many errors in this, I've never, even on AO3 or the like, seen that many missing commas, too many commas, misplaced or missing words, half finished sentences. Also constant, weird jumping between tenses.
The smut is actually pretty good, which is the only saving grace, because the litRPG elements are not even an afterthought and the "system" is pretty much nonexistent (except to initially setup the "breeder" premise), the same goes for an actual story.

Good read

I truly enjoyed the story. If I was still 13 I would have really enjoyed the how to manuals on bedroom relationships. At my over the hill age (50+) I've already learned that and it just got in the way of the story. I can testify that slipping the sex scenes does not detract from the story.

Looking forward to Book 2

I should mention the epilogue was perfect. All story arcs at a good resting place and adventures yet to come hinted at .

This was a pleasant surprise. Not a bad LitRPG harem story. I like the creativity of this author, and I like the MC, even as underpowered as he is.

While most of the women the MC bred are little more than barely defined characters, it would be nice if some of those bred women would come back into the MC's life later.

So far everything I have read from this author has been fairly vanilla, with no safe sex. If you are searching for heavy kink or word porn you should look elsewhere. YMMV

A very different ADULT harem story. GREAT, but different!

Cannot wait for the next book in the series! Hopefully, it will be soon since this book came out August 2023.
Very unusual premise. System story where only a few males are born and many don't get a skill/class from the System and get cast out. The classes go from the weak/mundane up to Legendary.
Again, I really, really, really recommend this book.

Surprised me with it's quality.

This one really surprised me. Very good writing and story. There are a lot of spicy scenes, but they are very well written. Each person is different and feels real, even though they are only t here for the scene.
I still wish there was a little more story, but I did not skip or skim through a single spicy scene. They are good and spicy, but come out almost like a battle scene, and a good on e at that.

Definitely give this one a shot.

the cover art looks like an A.I did it

Ok ok the story started like most low budget fantasy world novels with RPG elements mixed in and start to seem rightfully done correctly. Then we enter the heavy elements of suicide and sex crimes on side chacthers pastes.

The story felt like wish fulfillment one moment and heavy realism the next that the story came off has the author make a real within the glade narrative… that I just couldn’5 like it. I hoped by the end it get better but stayed at the meehish-above-average line.

Has it can be seen the author then tryed to make the protagonist smarter then he should be has he used words from are world for hair style to knowing slang for political and important people that I just felt annoyed if he’s a commercial from a village make have a commoner mindset don’t just try to make him a smarty pants it just breaks the story.

Dreams come true

Love story, and I do mean all of it. Many will have other comments. But I agree with the author that this story needed all of its arcs. And it does make for a good plot line. As well as give the MC and family more depth. Can't wait for the second one in this series to arrive.

Great first book.

Just the right mix of serious when it's serious time, smexy when it's smut time and funny when it's needed. I loved the 'informal social' write more of them please, there's plenty of books out there with the stabby stab, we need more people cut to pieces with a sharp tongue and a glance.

(I will never look at a napkin the same way again, 16 times? really?)

loved Joan slugging the mule Karen

Absolutely loved this story. I about fell off my chair when Joan slugged Karen. Although a unusual story it is amazing. Filled with kindness and compassion, energy and even some intrigue. I look forward to a lengthy and exciting series. Definitely hooked and anticipating more.

Looking forward to book 2

Just finished B.A. Oliver’s other books and decided to try this one also. I liked the Leah character along with the MC. Only thing I was surprised at was the MC didn’t do much with trying to develop his own skills to protect himself at the end of the book. Maybe that is to develop in the second book.
