I live in Auckland, New Zealand, and have done for three-quarters of my life. The other quarter was spent in England, where my kids were born. I have three of those, and they’re very cool. I’m a bit demented and thought it would be a good idea to have them a year or so apart. I’m still recovering from that misguided notion, but am convinced that a month in Bora Bora would set me right!
Speaking of travelling, as much as I crave a tropical island escape, you’re far more inclined to find me hankering after snow. We don’t have any of that in Auckland – not a drop! And, although it did snow occasionally in dear old England, I’m still looking for the up-to-your-window sort of snow experience. I come from Viking stock (my grandmother was Swedish), so maybe that’s why I have always craved the cold, white stuff. In fact, my husband and I bonded over our love of scarves.
'Twas love at first discussion about the pleasure of a good scarf!
My reading journey I was drawn to historical romance as a young reader. I loved anything by the Brontë sisters, but I think Jane Austen was my favourite author at that time. It was a toss-up between Pride & Prejudice and Jane Eyre for my favourite book as a tween. As I got older and developed a real love of history, I became obsessed with anything do with Vikings. I fell in love with Bernard Cornwell and Robert Lowe, Giles Kristian, too. But there’s always been time to fit in the next Diana Gabaldon. Her Outlander series is probably my favourite series ever (great tv too!). History is my one true love, so some of my favourites lately have been C.J. Sansom’s thrilling Tudor series and Patrick O’Brien 19th century naval adventures.
I always thought I would write the Furyck Saga as a historical fiction series, but I never found a period or place where it felt possible. Ultimately, I realised that actual history was far too limiting, so I stepped away from reality and entered the wonderful world of fantasy, and that’s when the fun started…
It took me a long time to become a writer.
I have ring binders and ring binders of stories, screenplays, tv show concepts, and book ideas that I’ve been creating since I was 10-years-old. I was always very fast with ideas but seeing them all the way through was a lot harder, and eventually, as I grew up, life and work got in the way. I would try writing Winter’s Fury off and on, but I never got very far, and dissatisfied, I always gave up, telling myself there simply wasn’t enough time to fit writing in around three children, two dogs, a graphic design business, etc. etc. But what I quickly discovered is that time is what you make of it.
Inspired by an article I read about James Patterson, who got up early to write his first book and fit it in around his job, I started making writing a daily discipline; the idea being that, bit by bit, I would eventually create an actual book. At first, it was tough. It felt like I was training for a marathon and I didn’t even know how to run. But every day it got a little easier and eventually, I started to write more freely, and one day I had enough of a book to show my husband. At this point it was either, forget it again, or keep going.
All is lost, just like my mind. I don’t know who is who! Who is friend and who is foe? Who is dead and who is not? Who are the bad guys and who are the good? Are the Furycks usurpers? Was Arnon even a Furyck? And what line does Queen Brekka hail from?
I distinctly remember Furia saying something like Edela was also of her blood back in the beginning in the Tuuran forest before the attack. But now, I’m questioning all that I ever knew about anything and everyone.
I’m trying to get the timeline together in my head for here in Brekka to coincide with what was happening in Alekka at the same time. I believe it was about 3-4 months before Sigurd took over after Jael left and it’s only been about a month or so since she reached Andala, I think? There was mentioned of Alari and I think it was Dessalene that follows her so I’m waiting for that to weaken her somehow.
I think I’ve made it to the book that won’t be out til summer of 2025 and it’s April 2025. So I must suffer the wait. It sucks. So many moving parts and people. I’m still wondering where Gant is and why Gisila brought her dumb self out. 😐
See my notes highlights and commentary on Goodreads. Happy reading!
The first half of the book is pretty slow, but it definitely gets better in the end. I think my biggest complaint with the plot line of the series so far is that Edela’s storyline is so, so repetitive—She gets to some new place by the skin of her teeth. Seeks information from a local dreamer who 90% of the time turns out to be bad. Edela walks into meeting with dreamer with blinding naïveté. She follows up on dreamer’s input. Gets blindsided by some bad situation. Fights some mystical battle. Barely makes it out. Rinse and repeat. It just gets boring after awhile. But…I’m still going to read it, haha.
Overall, I’m really enjoying the series and I’m very impatient for the next book.

OMG! My heart is still racing! How does she always leave us with these big cliffhangers!?!?! More perils for Jael, Eadmund, Edela, Raymon! The beginning of this book broke my heart..with both Jael’s and Eadmund’s heartbreak and clarity of objectives. But the more you read the more you see that it wasn’t like what Jael dreamed…Ayla and Eadmund weren’t a couple and neither are Fyn and Milla. Oh these tangled webs! I don’t know/see how this saga can conclude happily. How can you stop the levahti? Why won’t Furia help? Now it’s time to wait for the next installment! Enjoy!

I have loved all of the Furyck books until this one. I was so excited to have another Jael adventure. Unfortunately, this wasn't an adventure. It was a chore to finish this book. The author has thrown in so much that the characters are lost and their stories are jumbled up. It's difficult to write something without spoiling the story, what there was of one. After reading this, I feel that this book could have been condensed into about half the pages, as written it goes on and on. I am not sure if I will continue this series.
Will I read the next one? Yes. Did I enjoy this one? Mostly. There is a reason I never finished the Alekka books, besides the fact they didn’t (as far as I got) have Jael. This story was irritating as it switched perspectives multiple times PER chapter. I prefer a full chapter where I can focus on one event at a time. I do want to find out what happens next so I will buy the next one - as, by the way, it ends with cliffhangers so there will have to be at least one more. I cannot wholeheartedly recommend the Fate of the Furycks as much as I loved the original series.
So frustrating! So much going on and then it just stops! From researching it seems to imply this is the last book in this series with no indication of what next series will be called or when it will be published. I understand the need to generate interest but when you invest time in the characters you don't want to be left with no information. Really enjoyed these books but now very frustrated! I need to know what happens to them all.
I was so confused when I read that line. I reread the chapter, thought I mossed something. Now I’m in the next book and I can’t get over how foolish this breakup is between Jael and her man.
Homies, royals are allowed to combine kingdoms. Or if you don’t want to do that, have you consideredo summering in Oss and wintering in Brekka? There are solutions. The characters whining make me laugh with their stupidity.

This book is better than I thought it would be. I still needed a blanket in certain parts. Every part ties together to make an exciting, sad, happy and annoying read. The characters still feel like family and I still want to shout at others. I enjoyed this book and I am impatient for the next one.
This book continued the fast paced action of both series. And as usual, ends on a cliff hanger. Only issue I wish there was only one levahti. Too many dreamers being taken control of. Would be more interesting if only one dreamer was being controlled. Also, Furia is no where to be found. The missing Goddess needs to step back in and aid Hawk and Edela.
Again, this series brings so many interesting characters to life. I have read every book AE Rayne has written with the Furyck dynasty. She is able to allow you an understanding of a character's temperament and is so consistent with their words and actions. I can hardly wait for the next in this series to be available.
I know this is not the end to this SAGA too many loose ends to tie up. there are too many unanswered questions, like what happened? to Eleda and her crew.? Where is Ayala going and what happens to her to unborn child? will it grow up to be one of those creatures? too many questions. Please don't leave us in the dark. overall good series

I absolutely enjoyed this instalment. Gripping, as usual. Slightly nervous around the witchcraft/occultic components but recognise that only high level information is provided to set the scene. Key complaints are the lack of information around when book 5 is due and how many books are in the series! AE Rayne is a gifted writer.
I have been with Jael since the beginning and every book leaves me breathless and wanting more. The betrayals are numerous and you never know who is next. I am looking forward to following them into the next adventure.
An epic fantasy adventure with a well written imaginative storyline and well-crafted characters. A page turning storyline full of magic, betrayals, twists/turns, and plenty of adventure. Highly recommended read that will leave you wanting more.
Wow, great book. Adventure, mystery, romance and magic. What more do you need Brilliant! Looking forward to the next book. Just wish we didn't have to wait
Waiting for this installment of the Furyck saga was so worth it! This large cast of characters is expertly crafted and the story is profoundly paced. The drama never stops. If you have been following this series you must read this!
If you love millions of words, if you love finely crafted characters, and if you love a saga that flows like a river, meandering, white water, back to meandering, read all 15 available books. You won't regret one hour you spent on them.
Loved all the previous Furyck sagas but this last one dragged on relentlessly. It has too many setbacks one right after another it's tiring and doesn't move the story along. This book should have rapt the story up instead we're left with dozens of dilemmas
I just love A E Rayne’s story telling abilities. She has taken us on an adventure with the Furycks that remains in your head. The characters come to life and the storyline is great with lots of plot twists that keep your reading long into the night.
This fast paced book was a pleasure to read, in that there was so much going on on a multitude of fronts, that it kept me guessing. Plenty of betrayal, and heroics. The final chapters were quite intense, and terrifying. I really want to know how this all ends up now!
Pieces are fitting together, leaving the reader anxious for more. Another excellent addition to the Fate of the Furycks series. Sword and dagger, magic, and intrigue. Goddess of Secrets and War ends on a real cliffhanger.
Betrayal. Dreamers. Heartbreak. Battles and resilience. These books have it all! Great series! Start from book one and buckle up for an emotional ride!
