Holly and Nick are the best house flippers in the business- and they can't stand each other. When they're both invited to compete in the annual Gingerbread Village charity event, it's the perfect chance to prove who's really the renovation King or Queen. But as they race to transform life-size gingerbread houses into spectacular holiday homes, Holly and Nick find themselves dealing with more than just fondant and frosting. Between sabotaged sugar glass windows, meddling townsfolk, and a freak blizzard, they're forced to work together- and discover they might be the perfect team after all.
With time running out and old insecurities threatening to crumble their gingerbread dreams, Holly and Nick must decide what truly matters most. Will they cling to their rivalry, or take a chance on the most unexpected renovation of all- their hearts?
"Gingerbread House Flip" is a deliciously sweet holiday romance that proves sometimes the best gifts come in surprising packages.
Borderline unreadable slop. I don’t know if this is AI-generated garbage or just incredibly lacking in any form of skill, planning or proofreading. I mean “iContact” instead of “eye contact,” really? Sentences were repetitive, characters lacked all sense of personality and the plot wasn’t even there. The premise of constructing large-scale gingerbread houses to draw in tourism and promote their businesses was cute and had potential. Too bad the author couldn’t even name a single tool and there was almost no description of the actual gingerbread houses. At one point the main character (who is a professional carpenter) states that they have no idea what a specific tool is called and uses an undescribed drawing of said tool to identify it. I just wanted a quick, seasonal read. I wish I hadn’t bothered.
I rarely DNF books, but I had to with this novella at 32%.
First off, I couldn’t get past the character names. Sometimes it can be cute if they’re on theme but this was just over the top: Holly, Frost, Nick (like St Nick), Candy.
In terms of the story itself, Holly spends the first portion just planning in her notebook and then lamenting that her supplies are late. Then she thinks it’s a great time to take a lunch break despite not having even touched her gingerbread house?
I also couldn’t deal with the plot holes. She just walks up and walks right on stage for the competition? They don’t wait for all the competitors to get there and then start? She’s sad she’s spending the holidays alone, but I didn’t know why. Where is her family? In a different town? No longer living?! Also, she and Nick go from rivals to immediately helping one another. Clearly they weren’t rivals, and just had made assumptions about each other.
⭐️/5 👎👎👎 Whew, this one was a tough read. It might have only taken about 45 minutes, but I still wish I wouldn’t have used my time to finish it. - big plot holes, crazy rushed timeline, empty characters, and then “I think I have feelings for ____” turns into “I love you” within ~5 pages. Yikes!
MCs are whiney and insecure. Repetition. Very rushed, would have benefited from being longer. Lots of summarized sections where we don’t get the actual dialogue between the characters, so I felt like I didn’t get to develop a connection with the MCs. They only knew each other for this short competition (which they whine they need more time for to the town, despite FMC saying she frequently does these type of comps, so she should be prepared) and barely know each other, but throw out the L word by the end after their first kiss🙄

This was a very short story with few details. I felt like I was running through the whole book without getting a chance to really know the characters and learn to like them. It felt like a couple “bad” things happened, Holly got upset and came at Nick, and then she’d feel bad, apologize, and Nick would forgive her. I was hoping for more description about their houses and the work they were doing and a little more pushback.
This is a super-short Christmas romance complete with gingerbread. Unfortunately, I think it's too short to do the story any justice ... the characters go from fighting to declaring their love in two days and there's not enough chemistry to suspend my disbelief.
This book had such a fun and unique concept, and I really wanted to love it! A house-flipping project with a holiday twist sounded like the perfect festive read. While the romance was cute, I was hoping for more details on the actual house transformations—how did they make them look like gingerbread houses? How did the process work? I found myself wanting an HGTV-style deep dive, but the story focused more on the love interest. Still an enjoyable read, just not quite what I was hoping for!
