Rare are the Instances when reality turns into Imagination.
Veronika must have heard it many times, but somehow, she never understood its meaning. How could she? After all, there was nothing she ever deemed impossible. Nothing she ever thought impossible to achieve. She was a huntress before everything else and had been trained to be the best on every occasion. There was no space for error, not that she ever wanted to. That was the only thing Veronika could do to protect her mother. Her mother and - alas - save mere humans from the dangers of the cursed creatures. Their existence was a treat; that’s what she has always believed.
But training to take a life and actually doing it are two different things. There was no space for sentimentalism in their job. And especially no time for brooding over the consequences. But for Veronika, finding the real monster is a task far more complex than she had ever expected. And for what’s worthy, being one herself has never been specifically part of her plans.
All it takes is a single night. A single, unimaginable night to change all she ever believed and to answer a not-so-simple question: what is real, and where is the lie?
A House of Scarlet Souls by Marianna. Omg. I absolutely loved this book. I signed up just looking at the cover. This did not disappoint me. I got into this book straight away. I loved Veronica. She was my favourite character. I did like most of the characters, although Rosemary I wasn't sure about. This was very well written. Although there was a sad moment in this book, I still enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to reading the next book. Would recommend.
I was really looking forward to reading this one. After really struggling reading fantasy books, I've ended up with some good ones and I am now actively looking for them.
I enjoyed reading about Veronika and her life as a Huntress. Well, technically, huntress in training. It is really hard to say much more without spoiling anything so all I will say is that I had an idea very early on what might be going on (which was great!), I wanted the specifics.
Even though I struggled at times keeping track of what was going on and when during the second half of the book, the writing style was really enjoyable too.
It is a strong first book of a series, and I will definitely read book 2 - I want to read all about the dynamics between the characters as they will definitely change!

cover is absolutely gorgeous! It’s what really drew me to the book in the first place! I loved the premise of the book and I really enjoyed the character development. I think Veronika is a great FMC and it’ll be interesting to see her development continue! For me, the pacing was a bit off. It felt a bit like either too much or too little information was given and that there are a few loose ends that will hopefully be answered in the next book. That being said, this was perfectly set up for the next in the series! I love a modern setting with supernatural or magical elements to it and A House of Scarlet Souls fit that bill very nicely! This was a great little supernatural read, I appreciated the shorter length of the book, and I think k it should definitely be added to your tbr if you love a vampire book!
Here is my review for A House Of Scarlet Souls by Marianna Peci
I found this to be a very enjoyable read as I love vampire stories and this is about vampires. This is to do with more the hunting side though and how they continue to train so they stay flexible and at the top of their game otherwise they lose their skills they took so long to train for. It doesn’t take long for the skills to suffer and the dexterity to leave them. Also, it’s the breathing and other parts of the body which need to stay fine tuned as well. This is shown when they are training for the trails and Ronnie isn’t up to speed and it’s noticed. She could bring them down, possibly so they don’t even qualify. The writing is brilliant and she is wholeheartedly into the vampires. The story is great and I just enjoyed it so much and I couldn’t put it down. To think those wonderful creatures could be extinct. She has kept them alive in our minds and hearts. It’s one of the best vampire books I have read. Hopefully this will become a series.

That was the only thing Veronika could do to protect her mother. Her mother and - alas - save mere humans from the dangers of the cursed creatures. Their existence was a treat; that's what she has always believed. But training to take a life and actually doing it are two different things. There was no space for sentimentalism in their job. And especially no time for brooding over the consequences. But for Veronika, finding the real monster is a task far more complex than she had ever expected. Veronika is a Huntress in training who’s just starting out in her field and must pass the test before she can officially call herself a Huntress. Completing her training alongside her childhood friends under the ever watchful eyes of their parents, they must be strong enough to survive the test and the journey they must then travel as Hunters. Veronika has a lot to discover about herself during her test and her life is about to be twisted all around.
My first time reading a book from Marianna Peci and I enjoyed it. Her writing style is different from authors I usually read and the book flowed well overall. The plot was well thought out and there were a few surprises which I didn’t see coming. However somethings were not well explained until the actual event happened and left me with too many questions which I felt added some confusion to the storyline. I would have liked to see this book and the next in the series as one book though as this book felt incomplete and left the reader with more questions than answers.
Overall I enjoyed this book and look forward to following Veronika’s story and where it takes her.
First up, that cover is gorgeous - a real eye-catcher and I can see many people stopping and admiring it in a bookshop. I myself wanted to read this book as soon as I saw it.
The Blurb is long and detailed so you can also get an idea of what this is all about.
The story follows Veronica on her journey to becoming a huntress and of course, this path isn't as smooth as you'd think.
Veronica is an interesting character and one that O can see developing and growing nicely as the series continues. There is also a good mix of other characters that are at various points of the likeable scale!!
If you like Urban Fantasy, then definitely this this one a go.
Firstly, how beautiful is this cover!? It got my attention straight away and made me read this book and I am so glad I did because it was enjoyable and easy to read. I like Veronika who is training to be a huntress, and I like how unusual her home life is and how complicated her relationship with her friends and rivals are. She was a believable character and I really wanted to root for her. It’s a decent coming of age story for a main character whose life is a little different. I was left with lots of questions which I am hoping will be answered in book two.
Omg! This book is perfect for spooky season. Who doesn’t love to read a book about vampires.😊 Honestly I loved this book so much. The cover is stunning and what drew me to the book the most then once I read the blurb I was instantly hooked and I needed the book straight! I loved Veronika’s character she’s the best fmc and I can’t wait to read what’s going to happen next to her and what her next adventure entails. This book has a lot of world building which could put some readers off however I loved it and it sets up for the rest of the series. I can’t wait to read book two!
Just by the title alone, this book drew me in, and it did not disappoint! I enjoyed the story and its pace, the world is super original with the MMC being a badass with great character growth, and I always appreciate that.
At first, I had so many questions, but as the story unfolded the twists and turns cleared the path for me, there are a few loose ends that I'm hoping get answered in the next books. This book is the perfect beginning for the rest of the series, and I can't wait to know what's next for Veronika.
There was decent worldbuilding and plot, with a bit of a slower pace that takes it a bit to understand the going abouts of the story. The concept was good but there were both too little things happening plot-wise but also too much happening otherwise. Though I still found it enjoyable. There’s a lot of questions I need answers to but as this is the first in a series, I’m hoping to get these answers soon!
A House of Scarlet Souls by @mariannapeci was such a dreamy dark book that I loveddd! ✨ I adored Veronika, she’s sooo fierce, loyal, and a little bit broken (feels), which made her feel so real.
The writing was magicalll, and the world had just the right amount of mystery and danger. Obsessed with the vibesss
Tropes: 🩸 monster hunting 🖤 found family 🔥 chosen one 🌙 slow unraveling mystery 🕯 morally grey heroine
As this is my first time reading a book from this author, it took me longer to finish then I had anticipated, as the story seemed incomplete and all over for me, and by the time I finished it, it left me with even more questions than anything. I’m hoping that the next book is better and can answer the questions that I have from this book.
Fantastic story. Loved the build up and am looking forward to the next. Had some moments of confusion, but that just enticed me to keep reading to figure it out.
I read House of Scarlet Souls for a book tour and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The cover is gorgeous and the blurb grabbed my attention. The story kept me intrigued and I couldn't put it down. The world building was just right and I liked the characters, Veronika is my favourite. I was left with questions but these may be answered in book 2.
