When I was in high school I occasionally read books but was consumed by other teenage things so I didn't take the time to appreciate a good book on a cloudy day, wrapped up in a blanket on the couch. It wasn't until I received a Kindle for Christmas one year that my world completely flipped upside down. When looking for books I came across the Contemporary Romance genre and was sold and I haven't turned back since.

You can either find my head buried in my Kindle, listening to inspiring heart ripping music or typing away on the computer twisting and turning the lives of my characters while driving my readers crazy with anticipation.

I currently reside in beautiful Colorado Springs where the sun is always shining and there is a trail waiting to be hiked on every corner. I share a lovely and warm home with the love of my life and my five, four-legged children.

This is the first time I've given a book by Meghan Quinn two stars. It makes me sad. The romance itself was very cute, but the humour—eek. It was not my cup of tea in this one.

Continually crossing paths over many years at a resort in Santorini, Tessa and Myles have both been concealing a crush. But now Tessa is 30 and begrudgingly forced to fulfill a contract created in high school, her love life now in the hands of her sister and friends. With Myles to help fight back, let the vacation wars begin.

I liked the initial concept of the contract, but it was unnerving how mean, inconsiderate, and simply childish these women were. I was reading their antics constantly through an uncomfortable feeling of secondhand embarrassment.

Tessa was over-the-top socially awkward too, which didn't help with the ridiculousness. It definitely calmed down as the story progressed, though. She slowly relaxes and finds comfort in Myles. It was very sweet how uplifting he was of her quirks. I really liked him!

The setting was fantastic, without a doubt. And I liked the storyline of Myles repairing the relationship with his dad. But like I said, the humour was far too silly for me.

(heat level: a few open-door scenes, moderate to explicit details)

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

Sadly, this one just wasn’t for me.
I didn’t mind the story and some parts were funny but Roxanne really ruined the book for me. She was so immature for 30 and just drove me insane!!

The whole contract thing and the group of girl friends was just so odd and seemed a tad unrealistic. I know I know, it’s fiction.. I just didn’t love it 🤷🏼‍♀️

As someone who LOVES Meghan Quinn books, I’m so so sad that I didn’t love this one. Meghan Quinn always delivers a fun, silly time and her books always keep me from getting in a slump. Unfortunately, this one just wasn’t for me 😭

I was enjoying the first half, but then it just became so ridiculous. Mose of the characters are in their late 20s and early 30s but they were acting like teenagers. I didn’t mind the fmc (Tessa) and the mmc (Myles) but Tessa’s sister/friends just threw this whole story off for me. Going to leave this review spoiler free but the contract and the perfume were just so ridiculous for 30 year olds to be obsessing over. Like, I get having fun but it just was so silly to me that I couldn’t get with it.

I was between 2 or 3 stars but I’m going with 2.5 rounded up because I did enjoy the beginning and the romance was cute!

I had such mixed feelings about Vacation Wars. I liked the couple. Tessa and Myles had a sweet romance. It was the rest of it that wasn't great for me. I really disliked her sister, and the friends weren't much better. I usually like Meghan Quinn's humor but this one just didn't hit.

first meghan quinn book i’m sadly going to have dnf @49% this had such a great premise but lord what meghan did with it was not my cup of tea. first the humor was so cringe i could barely make myself read it and second, i hated her sister and best friends they were so rude to tessa it felt uncomfortable at times to read the things they were saying to her and they just seemed so immature.

“You make me feel special. Despite my awkwardness and my stumbling, you still look at me in this way that creates this ball of confidence deep in my bones.”
“How do I look at you?” ...
“Like I belong to you. Like there’s no one else on this island that could garner your attention the way I can. Like you’ve been waiting for me for so long, and I’ve finally shown up.”

Tessa Doukas is back in Santorini, her families regular vacation spot, but this time she’s there with her best friends and her sister, for a girls trip before her sister gets married. In a very Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants fashion, the group has a set of rules that they live by, and a bottle of special perfume that is used for only the most serious of true love circumstances.

In this list of rules they concocted as teens, Tessa is forced to forfeit her love life to her sister and friends as she is single and 30. Except, they have no chill. Tessa is not being set up for success, rather being fed to the wolves. She will do ANYTHING to avoid these tragic set ups they’re throwing her way. Even if it means teaming up with the man she’s had a crush on since she was a child.

Myles needs a distraction and the fumbling, awkward, gorgeous girl of his dreams is right in front of him. While helping her in the Vaction Wars, he’s dealing with his fallout with his dad and the struggles of trying to find his foot in the family business.

______________________________

I am a Meghan Quinn girly through and through. I had the BEST time reading this book and I really cannot remember the last time I laughed so much reading something.

I loooooved these two. My poor girl Tessa was a wreck, but in a way that was actually hilarious and not entirely cringey. Myles had the perfect balance of teasing her and adoring her. I swear I was laughing so much it hurt during some bits of this book. Tessa is an icon. For everything that she is. She’s fumbling around with no filter but my god does she have heart. She loves so much and is bold and free and fun.

MYLESSSS. I swear I would go to bat for Meghan Quinn men. My sweet sad chicken was so loving and supportive. All he wanted was to support his dad and build an empire and something to be proud of together. The family tension between them was aggravating in the way that you just wanted it to work out for him. HIS DREAMS? HIS PLANS? HIS LOVE FOR HIS DAD?

The way he just wanted to be there and help Tessa in her wild shenanigans and war against her sister was fantastic. He was also pining after her for so long and was just happy to be spending time with her. Them finding their way to each other was so f**** sweet I could scream. Literally ”it’s always been you” vibes and I loved it. They’re a perfect match. So much love, goofiness, and support.

The book is perfectly balanced. The family drama? WOO DID I WANT TO THROW HANDS. But these characters are so strong I loved seeing them stand up for themselves and then going and supporting each other when things got hard. The book is definitely on the longer side, but none of it felt like filler. It was all paced out so well.

I HIGHLY recommend if you’re looking for a hilarious, swoony, vacation romance. If you’re a fan of Meghan Quinn books, this is going to be such a fun ride. If you’re new to her writing? HAVE FUN. This is steam, comedy, romance, and so many more layers.

Thank you NetGalley, Meghan Quinn, and Montlake for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

What a weird, uninteresting book. Disappointed in this. First, the prologue was unnecessary in this book, I think. Second, Roxanne, the sister is so immature that I just couldn’t like her character. She was always trying to belittle her sister, Tessa. Third, they created some stupid game in the whole book with a contract, that they LITERALLY created when they were in high school. The entire group of friends was like “OH?! We can’t break our contract from high school! Booo!!” Lastly, Tessa, the main character was socially awkward and straight up annoying when she tried to have a conversation with any boy. You’re telling me you’re in your 20/30s and can’t talk to a dude? Grow up!! Basically, I hated all the characters because they were all immature and needed a life. The end.

— to say i’m disappointed with this book is an understatement. i am unfathomably discouraged by how absolutely awful this book was (and probably is since i didn’t even end up finishing it). i practically never dnf books but i’ve made an exception for this one. it was truly that bad.

— tessa’s sister roxane was a terrible fucking person altogether. she was awful to her sister and don’t even get me started on how their so-called “friends” treated her. forcing tessa to try and find her soulmate or the love of her life when she’s clearly not willing to do so is terrible. that treaty or whatever the fuck it is shouldn’t even matter if tessa was not comfortable with getting into a relationship– a person is ALLOWED to have boundaries and tessa’s sister and her OWN FRIENDS constantly pushed them and openly made her uncomfortable in public. they never took responsibility for their actions and excuse them under the guise of “finding her a relationship.” you’re not finding her a relationship or helping her move along in her life– you’re just being a fucking asshole.

— ALSO, the way roxane shit on tessa for having a crush on myles her entire life ???? tessa thought about having him be the soulmate or the love of her life she was looking for bUT ROXANE SHOT HER DOWN EVERY TIME BECAUSE IT SUPPOSEDLY WASN’T GOING TO WORK OUT AND IT WAS NOTHING BUT A TEENAGE FANTASY ????? “WASN’T GOING TO WORK OUT” ROXANE DO YOU FUCKING HEAR YOURSELF ????? YOU FUCKING SET TESSA UP WITH COLLEGE STUDENT AGED COUSIN OF YOUR FIANCE WHO WAS STILL CLEARLY DEPENDENT ON HIS X-BOX AND TV DINNERS AND THE RELATIONSHIP WITH MYLES IS THE ONE THAT ISN’T GOING TO WORK OUT ??????? WHAT ???????? the people they were setting tessa up with were NEVER going to make it in the long run– but the one person that might ACTUALLY FUCKING MAKE IT IN THE LONG RUN IS FORBIDDEN BECAUSE ROXIE FUCKING SAID SO ????? F U C K NO. (i feel like nick sturniolo right now)

— the friends were just as insufferable. they kept going along with all of this bullshit just because they want to help tessa find a husband. i do understand the sentiment but HOLY F U C K YOU PEOPLE ARE AWFUL BECAUSE SHE CLEARLY IS NOT IN THAT PLACE IN HER LIFE. i know they just want her to be happy but she seriously can do that on her own account. you do not need to baby and coddle a THIRTY YEAR OLD WOMAN because she hasn’t found a husband yet. AND JUST BECAUSE THE FUCKING CONTRACT YOU MADE AT THIRTEEN YEARS OLD DOESN’T MEAN YOU HAVE TO FUCKING ABIDE BY IT ?????? IF I LISTENED TO THE ADVICE THIRTEEN YEAR OLD ME WOULD HAVE GIVEN ME I’M PRETTY SURE I WOULD HAVE DIED BEFORE I HIT FOURTEEN. nobody in their right mind actually thinks a stupid ass contract you made when you were teenagers is actually important or feasible in this day and age.

— another thing, DID MEGHAN QUINN GO TO THE LUCY FUCKING SCORE SCHOOL OF AGE ?!?!?!?!?!??!?! THESE WOMEN ARE 30+ AND THEY’RE FUCKING ACTING LIKE T E E N A G E R S. TEENAGERS. THIS BOOK WOULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH BETTER IF IT WAS ACTUALLY ABOUT A FUCKING GROUP OF TEENAGERS. IT WOULD HAVE MADE A LOT MORE SENSE !?!?!?!?? THE FUCKING PRANKS WOULDN’T HAVE BEEN SO WEIRD ?????? EVERYTHING WOULD JUST BE BETTER !?!?!?!?!?! seriously please whatever you do, do NOT read this book. it’s awful. i genuinely would rate it zero stars if i could.

— needless to say, i am a hater !!!!

This book is definitely different than MQs normal style that I’ve gotten used to. It was just as cute as ever, but there was wayyyy more drama, especially between the friend group. And i have to say, the friends & sister were fcking AWFUL humans. Tessa was such a sweet, quirky character that I really loved, but the way her sister treated her, as well as the other two friends in their friend group, made me so mad for her!!!!!! She deserved so much better. And the way they acted did not seem right for women in their 30s.

Tessa’s sister, Roxanne, is getting married at the Grecian resort they’ve been going to for as long as they can remember. Tessa has always had an eye for an employee, Myles, and this year of attendance makes no difference. She still has majorrrrr heart eyes for him. She wasn’t anticipating for her awkward self to form an alliance with him to get her sister & friends off her back as they try and set Tessa up with literally anyone to just get her a man. The relationship between Tessa & Myles was sooooo sweet & their history made it that much better!!! But again, I was seriously sooooooo annoyed/sad because of the way these girls treated Tessa and it broke my heart for her and the way they disregarded her feelings/thoughts.

I loved Myles though oh my goodness. He was perfect, and I loved seeing his a relationship between him and his baba improve.

The ending made up for the story, and it was a fun, greek-set adventure between two peoples who’s paths have always crossed, and were meant to be!!

All of a sudden I want to go on holiday to Greece, it sounds idyllic. Are all hotel owners in Greece like Myles Cirillo? ‘Swoon, swoon’. Myles is sweet, sexy and fun, everything I could wish for if I were a year or two (or twenty, or thirty) younger ‘wink wink’. This is a cute, sweet, and highly addictive romantic comedy. Both Myles and Tessa have crushed on each other for years, and when Tessa is finally pushed into Myles’ arms, thanks to her sister and best friends, they find that they have so much in common. They spend their time scheming against her sister and friends to outwit their plan to set Tessa up. So funny (some of the time), yet very emotional, obviously Tessa is dealing with some major issues, but, so it seems, is Myles. Can they fix their families and still find true love? I enjoyed this story so much, Myles and Tessa were so perfect for each other, which highlighted how flawed her twin sister actually was. Not sure if I could be as forgiving as Tessa, twin sister or not, it just goes to show that maybe true love really does conquer all. A highly entertaining and fun read. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest review.

Hmmmm... the pranks depicted in this book struck me as more suitable for college students rather than individuals in their thirties.

As I progressed through the story I was ready for the book to be over. I had simply lost interest in it.

Alright you know what, after all of my complaining about “the bulge,” this actually had a pretty good ending! I enjoyed this a lot more around the 70% mark. Tho she isn’t the main character, Roxane had some desperately needed character development and that really set her up for some excellent redemption. I will say, this was pretty long, or maybe it just felt long… more than it needed to be if I’m honest. And I do have to mention, “bulge” being said 43 times was INSANELY EXCESSIVE. If my friends ever nicknamed a crush of mine “the bulge” I would absolutely stop being friends with them on the spot 😂 that shoulda been Tessa’s first red flag. I liked the resolution with the friend group, though. It’s important for friend groups to ebb and flow because naturally people change as they grow. Sticking to a contract they set as teenagers was bound to be their downfall. Now in regards to Myles and Tessa, I’m pretty middle ground. Their individual plots overshadowed their relationship plot, and I think the book dragged partly because of that. They’re total goofballs though which was very adorable, and I liked the way they would defend and support each other. Not my fave MQ by any means, but not bad either once “bulge” was left behind 😅

Vacation Wars is another fabulous romcom from Meghan Quinn! Set in Santorini, this one makes you feel like you’re on vacation right alongside the characters! I loved it to pieces. Not only did I laugh out loud MANY times, but I swooned so hard. Tessa and Miles were adorable together. The awkwardness, the teasing, the trickery- all of it made my heart pitter patter. Of course, in Meghan Quinn fashion there were some underlying issues that the characters had to face and overcome which added some angst to an otherwise hilarious romcom, but it makes the book feel so much bolder and relatable! I highly recommend it!

This was a good mix of silly fun, emotional scenes, drama, and romance.

Before her twin sister’s wedding, Tessa arrives at the hotel her family has spend every summer at for a pre-wedding vacation with her sister, Roxanne, and their two best friends since childhood. As the only single one of the group, the other women plan to find a partner for Tessa during their week leading up to the wedding. Trying to evade her scheming friends, she finds herself in the way of Myles, who is the son the owner of the hotel and coincidentally also the person Tessa had a crush on every summer.

Myles is back in his home for the first time in seven years, after going to New York for a hospitality management program. He wises to rebuilt the relationship with his father and wants to prove him that he now that the skills to help run the hotel, all while Myles’ dad seems not only to draw back from Myles but also from the hotel they both love.

Tessa and Myles just FIT together. While Tessa might’ve had a crush on him, watching him from afar in their childhoods, Myles was not better, she was just a little more awkward about it. These two though are fundamentally made from the same cloth and finally get the courage and chance to get to know each other.

Vacation Wars mixes their romance with the growing pains of a friendship group, insecurities in a sister relationship, a strained father-son relationship, and building the strength to stand up for oneself.

Honestly, the only bad thing I can say about this book is the way Tessa, a woman who had at least two relationships and is thirty, acts like the quirkiest teenage virgin when it comes to anything remotely sexual. Not sex itself, thank god, but the way she went on for chapters calling Myles ‘bulge’ and general childishness. Babe, get yourself together!

I was provided an ARC by the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Tessa Doukas is the background twin. You know, the one who isn't remembered first, who's not in the spotlight, who doesn't wear the flashy clothes and command attention? Her twin sister Roxane is getting married at the beautiful resort on Santorini where Tessa's family has spent all of their summers. For some pre-wedding relaxation, Tessa and Roxane are joined by their lifelong BFFS Lois and Clea for a girls' trip to the resort.

Myles Cirillo's dad owns the resort where the Doukas have spent every summer. He remembers Tessa as a child, as a teenager, and as an awkward 20 year old, admiring her from afar and never saying more than just a few words to one another despite their long history. After being in New York for 7 years and missing Tessa's annual trip to his resort, he finds himself back in Greece dealing with a miserable father but also with an opportunity to get to know Tessa and help her deal with her BFFs' crazy scheme of forcing her to find a man through the oddest of strategies.

I read this book in one day. If it weren't for adult responsibilities (boo) I think I would have read it in one sitting. The setting of this novel makes it read like a fun getaway, but there's some real angst and truth in how the author builds the relationships between the characters. Roxane and Tessa were both frustrating but also inspiring. Myles at some points seemed too good to be true but was also multifaceted and likeable.

This had the humor of Meghan's many other books, the heat we've come to expect from her, and the depth to make the reader stop and think about their own priorities and how their relationships change, grow, and affect the other parts of their lives. Thanks for a great read!

OH I LOVED THIS BOOK! I was hooked from the beginning with the original prologue that had me laughing and was the perfect introduction for Myles and Tessa. Vacation Wars is easily my favorite Meghan Quinn book now, tops all the others, and I could keep reading Myles and Tessa life forever. Tessa’s ramblings we’re some of my favorite things about this book, they were hilarious and oh so random I couldn’t see them coming. Myles and Tessa crushing on each other since they were children was so sweet, but since I’m not a friends to lovers fan, I loved that these two met officially for the first time as adults and connected then. Their connection was instant and amazing, the kind one would wish for, as it was healthy and honest and just perfect.

The Vacation Wars were hilarious to begin, but I also love how that was the tension and angst of the book, rather than Myles and Tessa’s relationship. This book was a story about sisters and friends as much as it is a romance, as the girl’s relationship was hard to read at times, had my crying, and also had me envious as they adapted to their new life circumstances.

I’ve been reading Meghan Quinn for years now, and each book is better than the last, I can’t wait to see what other stories she’ll tell in the future!

Dog weating a hat with a book in front of it.

VACATION WARS by Meghan Quinn is a fun and charming romance novel set on the stunning island of Santorini. The story follows Tessa, who's hoping to enjoy a relaxing vacation before her sister's wedding but is instead tasked with finding a soulmate by her sister. As she navigates her sister's pranks and dodges potential suitors, Tessa finds herself drawn to her childhood crush Myles, who works at the resort.

The book is filled with witty banter, swoon-worthy moments, and hilarious mishaps that keep the reader entertained and engaged throughout. The author's writing style is light and easy to read, making it a perfect escape read. The chemistry between Tessa and Myles is palpable, and their past and present struggles add depth to the story. This is a delightful and sexy summer read that will transport readers to a sunny paradise and leave them with a smile on their face.

Tessa, her twin sister Roxanne and two friends are headed to Greece for a girl's vacation, which will end in the wedding of Roxanne.

Tessa and Roxanne grew up visiting this same resort every summer of the childhood, and Myles, another "summer regular" has been the apple of Tessa's eye every year.

Always playing second fiddle to her sister, Tessa never feel adequate and rarely steps out of her comfort zone. This includes ever taking a chance with the boy she has had a crush on every summer since she can remember.

The wars begin when Tessa's sister and travel companions declare it's time for Tessa to step, jump even" out of her comfort zone. Find a man while in Greece or they will.

Hijinks and some silly moments occur of course, but there's a real core to this one. Several deep family dynamic issues arise and are discussed like sibling rivalry, bridging the gap between divorced parents and the aftermath of emotions after being cheated on.
