Ellie never imagined that a reluctant night out would plunge her into a world of angels and hidden powers. After a mysterious dance at the club and encountering an apparition of a mysterious man, she discovers she is half-angel and an Empath, destined to fight against malevolent archangels who threaten to destroy everything.
Guided by Hayyel, her assigned protector, and Shiro, her loyal guardian puppy, Ellie learns to control her awakening abilities while balancing her ordinary college life.
As her training intensifies, Ellie uncovers painful truths about her past and her crucial role in a brewing celestial war. With friendships tested and a budding romance threatened, Ellie faces betrayal, dangerous enemies, and heart-wrenching sacrifices.
Amidst battles and revelations, Ellie must harness her powers as an Empath to unite a divided realm. But as she navigates through deceit and destiny, Ellie learns that the line between friend and foe is perilously thin.
In a race against time, Ellie’s choices will determine the fate of both the human and angelic world.
Temptations Of The Past by Julia Aberg is a wonderful debut novel. Following the journey of Ellie, a half human half Angel, as she learns to control her awakening abilities whilst also navigating a new romance. There are so many secrets and mystery within the pages of this book that it is hard to put it down.
✨️ Soulmates ✨️ Animal Guardian ✨️ Celestial Beings ✨️ Closed Door Romance ✨️ Chosen One
I would have loved if the author had dove a little deeper into the world building aspect to really elevate this story to a high fantasy adventure, that said the plot was excellent I was fully invested in Ellie's story along with her relationship with Aaron. I also loved Shiro and the idea of animal protectors. I am looking foward to the next instalment in the series. (Still to be named)
I would like to say a huge thank you Julia for allowing me an ARC of Temptations Of The Past.
I couldn't put it down! From the very first page, I was completely engrossed in the story. I absolutely love the concept of a dual world with celestial beings and the idea of animals serving as protectors for angels (or half-angels) with special gifts. I think this was a strong start for a debut novel and the first in a series. While I would have loved a few more pages to deepen the character relationships and personalities, that didn’t take away from the story. I was absolutely hooked from start to finish and can’t wait to find out more about our characters (old and new) in the next book!
Here are some of my reactions while reading (possible spoilers):
Thank you Julia for providing me with an ARC, this is my honest review.
Temptations of the Past is an amazing book that takes place in two different worlds: the real world and another where magic, angels, good and evil, and the unbelievable occur. I found myself attracted into both worlds throughout the novels, trying to solve the riddles as they were revealed via Ellie's experiences. Aberg does a fantastic job of guiding the reader and the main character across both realms, using the ties from the past to establish Ellie's character. I was drawn in as a reader to Ellie's battle to make sense of her past and the reality that was emerging in front of her. She battled her own knowledge of her tragic upbringing, her clinging to what she perceived to be her truth, and her mourning over the loss she had gone through. Aberg highlights Ellie's character issues as her greatest strength while drawing on what may be considered her faults. I thoroughly loved reading Temptations of the Past, and I'm excited for more of Aberg's work. An excellent novel that was hard to put down.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
In a separate realm from humanity, there exists a race of beings called angels. Despite their considerable beauty and eternal youth, angels are just as complicated, morally dubious (and fond of modern fashion trends) as their human counterparts. Angels live separated from the human realm after the powerful archangels rebelled against their flawed, reclusive Creator. Certain angels are magical caretakers of the world and possess special powers.
Enter the main character, Ellie: an orphaned part-human girl with a mysterious past. She is a quiet and bookish college-aged student and a reluctant hero. Ellie is both relatable and likable… for the most part. Among her flaws, Ellie has several bouts of toddler-level obstinance, an inability to communicate her basic feelings, and is convinced that her perpetual tardiness might be a disease. However, at her best, Ellie is a kind soul, an animal lover and a good friend to her found-family/best friends, Jen and Lucas. Yet, amidst everything else, she is haunted by visions of strangers from another world.
Throughout her journey, Ellie is trained by a brooding, deceased angel named Hayyel. She is assigned a faithful animal guardian named Puppy. Ellie also falls in love with a stunning but humble young actor named Aaron, all the while being hunted by fallen angels who fear Ellie as their future ruin. Not to mention her journey into the realm of the angels, where she faces various life-threatening perils and is forced to embrace terrible power.
Ellie’s gifts take on a unique form, drawing on her ability to project and feel emotions. Hence, her title as “the Empath”. However, she is always questioning herself and the destiny that awaits her. When she misuses her power, there are dire consequences. Both for her own life, as well as for those closest to her. Unwilling to trust those who have always been there for her, Ellie is often her worst enemy. At times, it’s only her vicious archangel pursuers who believe she is the prophesied hero.
This engaging story plays out vividly, and draws you in right away from the first chapter. The dynamics between Ellie, Lucas and Jen are fun and full of banter. The budding romance between Ellie and Aaron is mostly sweet, sometimes awkward. See also: drunk overnighters, fingers-through-hair fetish, wasted continental breakfasts, and more pouting Ellie. All joking aside, their connection is symbolic of true love: with all of its ups and downs, misunderstandings, and fateful resolutions. Furthermore, their connection proves to be more important than either realizes.
This book is perfect for those who enjoy supernatural fantasy, fated romance, shy-but-complex female main characters, talking animals, and most importantly, leather pants and thin white shirts draped over bulging muscles.
Temptations of the Past by Julia Åberg is a wonderful adventure that you most certainly will not want to miss!
I could not finish this book. Even the most basic principles of writing (show don't tell, building suspense...) were not executed well or even at all. The characters were all incredibly unlikeable (the protagonist is so "not like other girls" even her name is her too girlie), the protagonist's best friend doesn't like guys looking at her "like he looks at women" (which... ew), and her best friend doesn't even worry when she doesn't come home at night and then turns up the next day looking like she slept in an alley with blood in her hair??
I have finished books with unlikeable characters before. But that's not even the worst problem. The writing is just not good. This book needs another good round of edits before it is published. At no point does the story build suspense. Oh there's a weird puppy no one seems to really notice? Show that to me, don't just tell me! And especially don't tell me a chapter later why, let the mystery build a little!
The pacing is also completely off. Locations change way too quickly, time passes way too quickly and at no point did I actually get a grasp of timeframes in the story. Way too much happens, and nothing ever feels like it really has an impact. Readers are never left to wonder or ponder on something before being thrown into the next "big thing" which doesn't feel like a big revelation at all because the delivery was tepid at best. Like when the protagonist suddenly reveals to us "she never felt entirely human", but that was never even hinted at! We know she has weird visions or "memories" but at no point is there any hint at her thinking she's not human - why would she even think that? What's the reason? And why, if she always thought that, is she still struggling to come to terms with it only to decide that she definitely believes it a chapter later??? The whole incorporation of her powers is horrible, they just come out of nowhere in a way that's absolutely not believeable. And don't get me started on her backstory. 2014 Wattpad wants its protagonist back (I was only waiting for her to be sold to One Direction at some point, especially when Mr "You-don't-know-who-I-am?" entered the scene).
I'm sure the world has potential, but nothing about this book makes me want to continue. And nothing so far honestly gives me the impression the worldbuilding could be well executed.
I wish I had something positive to say about this book, but it has only made me mad. Readers deserve better than to be charged for a book that reads like fanfic a 14 year old would write.
Omg I loved this book. Things to know : dog sidekick, love plot, closed door spice mostly, war impending, multiple worlds, empath representative.
**A big trigger for some people could be loss.**
As someone who is consistently overwhelmed by emotions of other people in life to where I cannot go out to overcrowded areas before preparation I felt that the author hit the nail on the head.
FMC is witty, sassy, and has been through a lot in life. Her best friend is kind of a dick and her male best friend is an asshole but the banter between them really kept me fully locked in.
The storyline followed a pretty linear path so it was easy to understand and each and every side character was developed in their own ways and multilayered. My only complaint was the end felt a little more rushed but I think it’s because it basically set us up for book 2.
I am BEGGING for there to be a second book in Ellie’s journey because I do not believe half of what is going on is just what it seems. There are so many side twists with the other characters that I am itching to find out more about. I need the love story to be FULFILLING IN THE END BC RIGHT NOW IM IN PIECES ABOUT IT.
I am so grateful to the author for gifting me with the ARC of this book and I can’t wait to see her on the shelves.
Update / On my reread : I definitely would love some more worldbuilding & “show not tell” but I still love this book idc that it’s not perfect
When the book has an great dedication I know I'm in for a ride! "To everyone who still peeks inside old wardrobes in hopes of finding Narnia" Well Narnia is one of my favorite series, so I guess this book is for me!
This book follows Ellie who goes to college with her friends. One night her life is turned upside down when she is discovered to be a half-angel and 'the' Empath. According to a prophecy she is supposed to save the human and angel world.
She is helped by Hayyel, an angel who died because of the archangels (the bad guys). And Shiro her animal guardian. They teach her everything she needs to know about this strange new world and learns to control her powers. All in the same time while navigating college and meeting hot actor guy Aaron.
Be prepared to cry so have your tissues near! I really enjoyed the unique magical powers and Ellie's sassy 'don't tell me what to do' attitude. The book ends with me still having a lot of questions, but there will be a second book so hopefully they'll be answered!
3.5⭐ - A college girl finds out shes half-angel and prophesied to be the savior of both the human and Angel realms. By day she's trying to maintain her normal life, friendships and falling in love. By night she's learning to control and train her newfound powers as an Empath. When her two worlds collide, Ellie will have to decide where her Fate lies.
Read if you love: 🌆 Chosen one with discovered powers 🪽 Angels and celestial beings 🌆 Reluctant heroine 🪽 Animal companion 🌆 Interesting lore and world-building 🪽 Archangel villains 🌆 Realms collide 🪽 Closed-door, insta-love romance
I enjoyed this story, especially once the world-building and twists started to hit. I like the overall premise and am interested to see where the author takes this story in future books. There were definitely some moments and plot twists that had me shocked and needing to know what will happen next.
My biggest issue was the pacing. I can appreciate a fast-paced book but this was too fast in my opinion, to the point where it made it difficult to fully connect with the characters, the romance and the plot at times.
Thank you to the author for the gifted copy of this book. This review reflects my honest thoughts and opinions.
This is a very entertaining portal fantasy, which I, thoroughly, enjoyed. The concept of a human realm and an angelic realm, originally which were one, worked for me, and Ellie, the female protagonist, was the nucleus around which the story revolved. A woman Creator; a guardian dog; a key empath with a mysterious past and with other talents; true bonded love; betrayal; mysteries; action and twists - wonderful! There are so many opportunities for future books and I can’t for them to be created.
Ellie is an ordinary college student who one day discoverse that she is half-angel and an Empath. With the help of Hayyel, her protector, and Shiro, her fiercely loyal guardian puppy, she tries to master her powers.
I loved everything about this book. The romance, the fights. Ellie's relationship with her friends, I want friends like hers. The romance, oh god, I fell in love with Aaron. Also I loved Shiro. That little puppy was so amazing from the beginning.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I enjoyed reading this book, but I was just never drawn completely into the world. The second half of the book showed a lot of potential and had really interesting world building and the system of magic was intriguing. This is really well explored in the book! The characters here were also intriguing, particularly those in the Resistance. This part of the story had a lot of potential and I just really wished we could have got a bit more tension and heart-stopping moments. The first half of the book just didn’t quite live up to what I wanted. The romance especially felt like it progressed a bit awkwardly and I never quite understood the attraction between the two characters. I think also aspects of the main character’s dreams and how they related to what was going to happen was too awkwardly implemented where there didn’t seem that much mystery or tension. I see a lot of potential in the author’s writing as they have the story down, but the style could be elevated to not read quite so plain. I overall liked this read but did not feel intrigued enough to want to read the rest of the series.
I received an arc of this book ahead of publication.
The concept for this story is really interesting! The world-building is so colourful and intriguing, and I really liked reading the parts set in the angelic realm. I did find the first half a bit slow, but I enjoyed the MC’s journey and the side characters were well developed.
I thought the relationship developed a bit too quickly, and there were some misspellings and grammar errors that slightly threw off the pacing, but overall this is a great story and I’m intrigued to find out what will happen in book 2.
This fantasy book is a delightful read! I absolutely adore Shiro—he’s such a loyal and adorable character. The idea of having a puppy protector like him is simply wonderful. The angelic setting adds a unique flair to the story, and I really appreciated the portrayal of our female main character. She is independent and strong, and it was inspiring to witness her growth throughout the book.
One aspect I found a bit rushed was the romance. While it didn’t detract significantly from my enjoyment, I felt it could have been developed more fully. However, given the fantasy context, it didn’t pose a major issue for me.
I’m grateful to the author for selecting me to receive an ARC !
Im obsessed! This is an amazing debute novel from a talented author! Absolutely loved the plot and all the twists this book had to offer!
The main character was relatable on some levels and I found her character growth just wholesome. My main character has to be Shiro though, like i would die for Shiro, no kidding. This book had romance, friendships, animal protection, betrayal, action, soulmates and just the right amount of celestial beings and a great plot! I do think i had a small issue to get into this world in the first half of the book but it was not sometimes that disturbed me in the end since the other half of the book pulled me right into the world this book is taking part in.
This book made me go through so so many emotions and I was nearly crying at some points (when you read it you will know what im talking about) but I absolute loved it and cant wait for book 2! I need answers !!
Thank you to the amazing author Julia Åberg for an advanced reader copy in exchange of an honest review.
An excellent debut novel by a very dear friend! I met Julia a few months before Temptations was published, but I’m only now able to sit down and read it in its entirety. Julia has such passion for writing, and I can feel her love for this world spill out into every page.
Ellie is such a relatable character and I love her moments of sass. She’s tough, but she isn’t a warrior. She’s just your everyday UCLA student who learns she’s actually an Empath and half-angel. With the help of her teacher, friends, and guardian puppy, she must master her powers and save the world before it’s too late.
In Temptations, Julia has taken the concept of angels and gods and given them her own unique twist. I love the research she’s put into understanding the existing stories of angels, and how she’s given them new life and direction.
This is a fast paced, fun read, with twists at every corner. I know she’s been working hard to finish book 2, and I cannot wait to read it!
I was sent a copy of this book by the wonderful Julia herself!! Ellie, our main character, is wonderful to follow! She is confronted with so many new experiences and I loved the way she grew throughout the story. From finding true love to a loyal animal companion to finding out the secrets of her past, she keeps moving forward! Speaking of animal companion, I adored her guardian- Shiro. He has a great spirit and I loved how he took care of Ellie and she in turn, took care of him. We end on a cliff-hanger and I cannot wait to see what happens to Ellie next! My girl is going through it at the end :,)
Do you believe God is a woman? Angelic Dogs? Excellent – Read this!
I really enjoyed this book which has a unique take on the ongoing heavenly war mythology.
There are clearly several storylines that are due to be developed in coming sequels and it is a shame that the characters did not get more page time in book one, although with such a large cast of characters that was perhaps inevitable.
The main romance involves a very dramatic twist which I really enjoyed and was unconventional for the genre which was enjoyable.
I love the unique magic in this book. How the author slowly pulls you revealing things. I fell in love with description of the dress. I seriously can't stop thinking about "last first kiss." Such an inpactful take away from that book. I loved that line. My hubby is my last first kiss and I loved that the MMC in this book used that line!
This is exactly the kind of story I love to read! Temptations is a portal fantasy with found family, cool magic, animal protectors, and a lovable cast of characters!
I loved Ellie’s journey as a character as she grappled with her new reality. And I also loved Lucas so much and I need more from him!
I hope in book two we get to see more of the new characters we meet at the second half of the story. Cant wait for the sequel!
I got this book gifted as a review copy because I am also chosen for ARC reading the authors second book „Deception of the Future“ being released in November.
I will absolutely recommend this book (and I have the slightest feeling, the following books as well) to every fantasy reader who needs a break of Fae, Dragons and Vampires.
We follow Eliana, who is half-human half-angel, while she’s getting to know her powers and how to handle them and especially finding out, what her real purpose is. When life actually seems on a peak, everything changes and Ellie has to leave for another realm.
Angels, Guardians, Different Gifts within the angel species and two torn apart realms. This all absolutely gave me City of Bones vibes, and how can that be a bad thing? (Absolutely refreshing in a world where every second book „gives you fourth wing or acotar vibes“ - not saying they are bad - just saying it sometimes needs something else)
It felt like Julia has been thinking about this book a long time - plotting, researching etc. And yes it had me at the edge of crying a couple of times! So why didn’t I give full 5 stars. It’s pretty easy.
1. we have some characters which 100% will play a big role in the big everything - while there was a lot turning around them in the first half of the book, they were kind of vanished in the second one and I felt like at least we should’ve had some sentences about Lucas more at the end ? Pretty please 🤭 I know they probably get a big role in book 2 - so I’m just straight opening my ARC read and see what’s happening. But yes - there is 2 characters which could’ve had 1 chapter each more about what’s happening around them now.
2. if this was an ARC I wouldn’t mention it, but I read the public version - yes I got the book gifted, but still it’s on KU so I like to do authors a favour as well - and this had way too much misspellings - so this critics goes not just to the author, but the alpha readers and editors - there are mistakes that should’ve been seen. If it’s 1 or 2 I usually overread them - and yes I know I get more naggy about those the more I read, but if I keep bumping about misspellings then my level of joy sinks a little. (Usually I even mark them when I ARC-read and send them to the author - I know that’s not asked from ARC readers but I think in a way, this is also a responsibility if you get books gifted already .. but well that’s my unpopular opinion)
Anyways 4.25 is hell of a good ranking for a debut book and actually Top2 in my ARC rankings - so please don’t take the critics to heavy - those are things that I’m sure won’t be a problem in book 2.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for Temptations of the Past by Julia Åberg.
I will start as always by saying that this was personal view, and I appreciate everyone’s opinions differ…
This book has you diving into a world we never knew existed. I adore the way that Angels are represented! There is no religion in sight, and it gives them a whole new narrative that I really enjoyed. And I love the twist that not everything seen as pure and good as an Angel.. is always true…
It is a very fast paced book, and in some places I felt a bit confused by the change of scene when it flits to a new scene, but that just perfectly mirrors how Ellie would have also been feeling, really putting you into her shoes. Ellie is a fantastically relatable character, I love how the author lets you see how her mind works.
This book describes in many ways how feelings can be more powerful than physical pain, and that even if you’re hurting, you can still use your emotions to help you pull through and succeed.
There are two parts in the book that made my heart hurt… and one part where I was terrified it would hurt again.. but I won’t spoil it for you!
I’m just hoping there’s a second book coming out because I would love to learn more about Lucas’s story, and I’d like to see more about Jen, as the portrayal of a love between friends is beautiful, and I want to see that explored more! And I would love to see how the friendship develops with Lacey, Chehon and Sebastian, what other adventure will they find together?
A lovely Romantasy where the spice isn’t spicy, it’s hinted at behind closed doors. Which is really refreshing as I feel like this genre has maybe gotten a bit too carried away in some novels.. this book keeps the tension and banter without you needing the NSFW details.
3.75⭐️ 👻 book 1/? ongoing fantasy 🍑 closed door spice 👻 celestial war 🍑 true love 👻 guardian pet 🍑 loveable side characters 👻 reluctant FMC hero 🍑 found family
Massive shoutout to the author for once again providing me with the PR box for this book 😍 (All thoughts are my own and unbiased 😘)
This story was so fun and so different from stuff I currently read (I’ve missed the ‘human world and magical world exist and the FMC is from both’ sort of vibe). It made me really nostalgic of a lot of stories I used to read when I was younger. Except now the stakes are high and the romance is juicier 🤭
I really enjoyed the plot and how it felt like you were living the story through Ellie. It’s fast paced and you’re very much finding out everything as Ellie does. It’s a really cool narrative that I found myself loving.
Also it’s such a different type of fantastical world (I haven’t read books about celestial beings and angels in so long) and the powers that Ellie has is so different too? And the fact that there’s a guardian puppy just made my heart swoon 😍
Overall, this story was such a good blend of nostalgic fantasy tropes with something so unique. I cannot wait to see where the journey takes Ellie next 😍
I received an arc of this book and this is my honest review!
I don’t know what to say. I really wanted to like this book. I’m very thankful I got an early readers copy, but I’m thinking this one was definitely not for me. It could just be a me thing. 100%. If you like angels and empaths and magical animal protectors then this is for you. I suggest giving it a read just to see if it’s something you fancy. Cause again it could just be a me thing with not having interest in it.
I will tell you I did love the friends, I honestly wanted her to get with her guy best friend at the start. I just felt some vibes. I liked the angel watcher, “puppy” (whom has a name which i have forgotten already), I even liked Aaron (the love interest). I felt like the background story just could’ve used some work. I do think she writes well though, like it didn’t feel adolescent in tone. I just felt like maybe it was missing a spark WITH me. I feel like tons of others may actually find this quite enjoyable.

🪽 Chosen One 🪽 Celestial Beings 🪽 Animal Guardians 🪽 Closed Door Romance 🪽 Soulmates
Ellie is thrust into a world of angels and magical powers when she discovers that she is an Empath and that her father was actually an angel. We follow her as she travels between realms and helps to fight against the evil in the angel’s lands.
I feel like angels are a less common topic so I was excited to pick this book up! I really enjoyed the magic system and how well fleshed out it was. It was interesting to see how Ellie’s powers developed and how she began to control them. This book has a really strong foundation and I look forward to seeing how the author builds on it with future releases.
I did have some trouble connecting to the romance aspect. I didn’t really feel the connection between Ellie and Aaron. I am eager to see how the author continues to build Ellie’s interpersonal connections in the next one.
Thank you to Julia Åberg for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
Temptations of the Past is a debut novel by Julia Aberg about a half angel, half human empath named Ellie. As Ellie navigates her unique abilities and struggles with her identity, she is faced with difficult choices that test her loyalty and strength. The novel explores themes of love, loss, self-discovery, and celestial beings. With vivid descriptions and engaging characters, Temptations of the Past is a captivating story that will leave readers questioning the boundaries between good and evil. Aberg's writing style effortlessly draws readers into Ellie's world, making it easy to empathize with her internal conflicts. The novel also delves into the complexities of relationships and the consequences of decisions made in the heat of the moment. Overall, Temptations of the Past is a thought-provoking and immersive read that will keep readers like myself eagerly awaiting the next installment in the series.
Temptations of the Past is a brilliant start for Julia Åberg’s debut series. Filled with whimsical moments of the past and the captivating present where Eliana is thrown into a world of celestial beings and malicious angels bent on destruction. With a side of a tension-filled fated romance and captivating battles, Temptions of the Past is a great read for those in the mood of fantasy in between modern world and angels.
Everything about this book is great—the romance, the high stakes of Eliana’s mission—however, it felt as though it was lacking a depth to the relationships between the characters or the world-building needs more details. With that being said, Temptations of the Past is a phenomenal debut for Åberg and these little things doesn’t take away what the already incredible story. It is Åberg’s debut novel and there is an opportunity for growth, and I’m excited to see it in her next book.
Thank you to Julie Åberg for gifting me an advance readers copy!
⚜️I received a free copy of this book, and I'm willingly leaving this review⚜️
Ellie discovers she's a half-angel Empath destined to stop a celestial war. Guided by allies and haunted by secrets, she must master her powers and choose wisely—before both the human and angelic worlds fall.
Although the story had a lot of potential... it didn't click for me. For some reason I couldn't connect with the main character, or any of the characters. I kept waiting for something more to happen. I don't know what, but something.
There were some chapters that finished with Ellie somewere but the story has a gap of a few days where she is ends up somewere else with no explanation of how she got there. And I think in some cases those missing explanations where essential, at least for me.
I can see some people liking it, but it turned out this wasn't my cup of tea.
"Dying truly was an inconvenience." I absolutely loved that first line 🖤 Thank you Julia for this copy!! This story is so interesting, with an ancient battle between Angels and Humans, Ellie discovering her own past and facing her destined future, which forces her to leave behind her own world and loved ones. While going to college and having her own father's memories inside her mind, Ellie knows she's not a normal girl. But she never thought her life would turn out this complicated! And while I didn't find Ellie enjoyable all the time, especially when she was being really naive and selfish, I had to remember myself that she's only 18yo, soooo... I can't wait to read Deception of the Future and find out what happens to Ellie, her family on Earth, and her new friends on the Angelic World 🖤
Here are the amazing tropes: 🪽 Angels vs Humans 💫 Dystopian Fantasy World ⚔️ Sword Fighting ❤️🩹 Found Family 🍃 Ancient Powers 🌥️ Hidden Identity 💔 Loss & Trauma 💘 True Love
Thank you to Julia Åberg for the opportunity to ARC read Temptations of the Past! Here is my honest review:
Temptations of the Past is a modern portal fantasy that follows Ellie, a half-human, half-angel Empath.
While I enjoyed the story, most of the action scenes and developing feelings seem rushed. I think they could have been more detailed to really show the reader what was happening, rather than telling. I would have loved more world-building to really elevate the story.
I think there’s a lot of potential for the author to make this into a great series! Though I think they could have used a bit more fleshing out, the characters were interesting and likable.
This book was such a fun read, and the cover is absolutely gorgeous!
Ellie’s life gets flipped upside down after what was supposed to be a normal night out. A vision of a mysterious man leads her to discover she’s half-angel and an Empath. With Hayyel, her protector, and Shiro, her adorable guardian pup by her side, Ellie works on mastering her powers while still trying to handle college life.
This book had some great tropes: soulmates, loyal animal companions, and two worlds colliding. I loved watching her grow from doubting herself to feeling more confident.
Her relationship with Aaron was so sweet and pure. You could telll they had such a strong bond!
Also, I absolutely loved the banter between Ellie’s two friends.
I can’t wait to see what happens next in this world and with Ellie’s journey!
