Sunshine Ruby is out of the frying pan and into the forearms of the cinnamon-smelling chef, Garett, in this grumpy sunshine workplace romance.

Ruby’s life couldn’t get any worse after catching her boyfriend cheating on her with her best friend until she clashes with Chef Garett Kelsey, the man with the hottest forearms in England. Her first day in her family’s cookery school turns into a shouting match with blood everywhere and Garett demanding that Ruby leave or he quits.

Garett has lost his restaurant, livelihood, and, worst of all, his dog, Cookie. Unless Garett gives his former business partner and nemesis ten thousand pounds and the secret ingredients to his pasta dish, he’ll never get Cookie back. Garett must keep his head down and work at Cloud Cookery School to get the money he needs to move away with Cookie and start a new life. It’s doable if he doesn’t trust anyone or fall in love.

With Ruby and Garett working together, an irresistible attraction forms. Before he knows it, the grumpy chef is pretending to be her boyfriend to punish her ex, socialising with her family, and teaching her skills to win the baker competition, which risks everything he’s worked for. After weeks of flirting and a snowstorm, temptation overwhelms them.

But Ruby can’t let anyone come between her and her family like her ex did and Garett is keeping a huge secret from Ruby that could ruin everything between them. Can their forbidden connection endure it all, or are they destined to break each other’s hearts?

Fans of Meghan Quinn will enjoy this spicy romance novel that’s While You Were Sleeping meets Tessa Bailey’s The Sweetest Fix meets The Great British Bake Off. It features enemies to lovers, grumpy versus sunshine, one bed, found family tropes and a dash of Christmas.

Go Cook Yourself by Rebecca Chase

I was lucky enough to read an early version of this book, and I instantly fell in love with Ruby, Garett, and Cookie! I’m a sucker for a Sunshine X Grumpy romance and Ruby and Garett’s characters wonderfully played into this trope. Both Ruby and Garett were likeable in their own ways and easy to connect with and root for.

I particularly enjoyed the supporting characters and felt a part of the book family. The romance is the focus of the story, but I loved all the other storylines weaved throughout. I’m really excited for future books in this series!

A great balance of romance, cooking, and spiciness!

I really enjoyed this from start to finish. I did think it was a little bit cheesy at times, but the delicious banter + Overall story made up for it. I really loved the family and how they supported each other. I highly recommend this.

Reading Go Cook Yourself feels like wrapping yourself in a blanket fresh from the oven—one made by a grumpy but secretly soft-hearted chef named Garrett Kelsey, who knows exactly how to warm you up from the inside out.

Rebecca Chase serves up a delightful story about chosen family, and boy, does it hit the spot. The way she weaves together the quirky, chaotic characters in this book makes you want to pull up a chair at their dinner table. It’s heartwarming in the best way—like a good bowl of soup that hugs you back. The banter? Absolutely five stars. The grumpy-sunshine dynamic between the leads is chef’s kiss (pun fully intended). Garrett is the ultimate grouch in the kitchen, but watching him melt around the sparkly, determined Ruby is to die for.

And the chosen family storyline? Pure comfort food for the soul. It’s about finding your people, not the ones you’re born with, but the ones you choose—and it’ll have you rooting for this oddball group of misfits like they’re your own family by the end.

If I could give this book a Michelin star, I would. Instead, I’ll just highly recommend it—go cook yourself a nice snack and dive into this deliciously fun read.

Thank you, NetGalley and Rebecca Chase for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This book title and the cute dog on the cover were calling out, "this book is for you!" I'm so glad I received the ARC.

This is a grumpy-sunshine romance where Garett is fully aware of his grumpy demeanor, but finds himself attracted to the sunshine Ruby emits.

Poor Ruby has been through the wringer. Her fiance cheated on her with her best friend/business partner, so she ran home to be with her sister. She had a falling out with her parents several years earlier and was nervous to see them again. Upon her return, she substitutes for her sister managing their family's cooking school where renowned chef Garett Kelsey has found himself employed after his own stint of bad luck.

Garett agrees to show Ruby some baking techniques after hours, and the more time they spend together, the more they're drawn to each other. There are a couple spicy scenes as they become friends-with-benefits, because neither of them is comfortable in a relationship.

The Cloud family is amazing! I love the way Liz and Iain act toward each other and their children (and the "found" members of their family). You can tell there was a lot of love and fun growing up in that household.

As I was reading, I was wondering if this would be a series since there are many unattached members in the family, and it will be! Flora gets her chance at love in the next one, and I can't wait!

Cook Yourself by Rebecca Chase is a delightful five-star read that completely took me by surprise!

I knew cooking was hot, but I'm ready to leave everything behind and find myself a grumpy chef after reading this novel!

Ruby, a sunshiney character whose confidence has taken a hit after a difficult first relationship, shines with a caring warmth that makes her easy to root for, and Garrett, the grumpy MMC with a tough past, is just as compelling. Together, they share an electric chemistry that builds throughout the story, making each page more irresistible than the last.

While the Christmas backdrop adds a cozy charm, it’s the Cloud family and their real-life struggles—finding passion, pregnancy, and self-discovery—that ground the story beautifully.

This cozy-yet-spicy romance is one I highly recommend for anyone looking for warmth, love, and a little culinary heat.

Spice: 🌶️🌶️

God I love a cooking romcom. Please keep these coming, because I have to know what happened with Flora.

The second half of the book definitely ramps up the tension and the steam, and there is nothing better than sexual tension while two people are trying to decorate a cake.

Also, let’s all agree that we should bring vibrators into romcoms more often. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.

This is a dual-pov, first-person, spicy romance novel! It’s an adorable winter story that takes place in winter and gives off The Great British Bake Off vibes!

I loved the tension between Ruby and Garett! Loved the character development, the family incorporation, and all things about Ruby’s family cookery school! It got spicy about halfway through, and did not disappoint! Highly recommend!

Rebecca Chase and her writing.. fucking hell I’m obsessed.

The tropes are; grumpy X sunshine, workplace romance, found family, he falls first & hardest, chef x baker, enemies to lovers, one bed, friends with benefits, Christmas scenes, English countryside.
Smut is a 2.5/5 on the spice scale and it’s a HEA in what will be an interconnected standalone series!

With a trope list like that, how can you resist?? I did mention Christmas scenes but it isn’t overly festive themes, more wintery and cosy! This has all the amazing rom com vibes we know and love, coupled with the angst and history that I eat up! I’m not a cooking person, but damn if I wasn’t stressing there with them the whole time!

Ruby was selfless to a fault. She had a shit start to this book, but her development? Her internal monologue? Relatable and humbling, truly.
Garrett is an enigmatic man. He’s a little complicated but god if he isn’t a big softie at the end of it all.. Ugh everyone needs a Garrett in their lives.

Firstly, a big thank you to NetGalley / Victory Editing for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

It’s taken me a week or two to write this because I simply cannot put into words how much I LOVED this book.

Honestly, I’m speechless. I adored the chemistry between the characters, the pacing of the story, and the writing style. And of course, Cookie completely stole the show!

This book has earned a spot on my 2024 favorites list and is definitely one I’ll re-read.

An absolutely refreshing and fun read! Not a bad word to say!

Just finished reading an advanced copy of a book that was just released on November 15th called, Go Cook Yourself. This was everything I love about a romcom! I totally love grumpy/sunshine books, and then this book also revolved around cooking and baking, as well there was a cute dog, it was just the perfect read! The banter between the main characters was spot on, and their chemistry was totally undeniable. This was such a sweet and fun story, I absolutely loved every minute of this book! 🩵📚

*This is an ARC review

If you liked Hannah Grace books I think you might like this book. Unfortunately this was not really for me, i'ts giving Icebreaker vibes but in a kitchen. I didn't like the writing style, there was so much elements that were not necessary to the story and repetition of the same thing. I ended up DNFing it at around 35%. However, I loved the idea of a cute bakery romance!

Thank you so much NetGalley/Rebecca Chase for the advance copy❤️

Rebecca Chase brings the heat in Go Cook Yourself, the first book in the Cloud Family series. It delivers a fiery and heartwarming romantic comedy that blends enemies-to-lovers tension, family dynamics, and plenty of culinary chaos. At the heart of this fun and easy read is Ruby, whose life is in shambles after discovering her boyfriend’s infidelity with her best friend. But her bad luck takes an unexpected turn when she crosses paths with Garett Kelsey, a brooding chef with a mysterious past and—according to Ruby—a set of forearms that could make anyone weak in the knees.

The chemistry between Ruby and Garett is instant, electric, and deliciously slow-burn. Ruby is a sunshine character who brings light into the somewhat gloomy world of the grumpy chef, and their interactions crackle with tension and wit. Their banter is sharp, playful, and filled with the kind of friction that makes the enemies-to-lovers trope so compelling. But Go Cook Yourself doesn’t just rely on the central romance to carry the narrative—Chase also weaves in themes of self-discovery, healing, and personal growth, particularly for both Ruby and Garett as they work through their pasts.

Their relationship evolves from a fragile truce to full-blown attraction, and their moments together—whether it’s pretending to be Ruby’s boyfriend to get back at her ex or navigating a snowstorm—feel authentic and emotionally satisfying. The heat isn’t restricted to the kitchen as Chase provides us with deliciously detailed spicy scenes that allow Ruby and Garett’s chemistry to leap off the page.

Chase’s writing is witty, engaging, and full of heart. The book balances humour and romance with genuine emotional stakes, and the found family aspect—especially with Ruby’s warm and supportive family—adds an extra layer of depth to the story. The holiday setting and snowy backdrop further enhance the book's cosy, festive vibe, making it a perfect read for those who enjoy romantic comedies with a dash of Christmas magic.

Go Cook Yourself is a fun, spicy, and heartwarming romance that checks all the boxes for fans of contemporary rom-coms. With its irresistible enemies-to-lovers storyline, grumpy vs. sunshine dynamic, and a touch of festive cheer, it’s a perfect pick for anyone looking for a feel-good, heart-pounding romance with a delicious twist. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys a love story served with a side of passion and pastry.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book earlier on in the month which I am eternally grateful for, that being said this does not sway my opinion. I was not able to start nor finish this book before the release date for the title but I am still thankful to have been sent the copy non-the-less.

Go Cook Yourself is everything I did and didn't expect it to be. It was, to it's core, a traditional contemporary romance, it had all the usual cuts and trimmings of a romance book with the favoured tropes of grumpy x sunshine, (minor) fake dating, he falls first, etc but I was genuinely surprised how different it ended up being to how I assumed the story would go.

The author doesn't focus heavily on the competition the FMC Ruby enters as heavily as she could, which could have lead way to more stressful scenes and miscommunication/arguments but instead uses the few scenes she does write pertaining to practicing before the competition to either develop the characters of Ruby and Garett or develop their budding romance.

I will not lie, when I was scanning through Net-Galley and I came across this book, I was sold at the thought of Garett doing everything he can to get his dog back. The inclusion of Cookie was adorable and completely sold me into smashing that request button.

I did have moments where I wanted to smash their heads together because they were being annoyingly obtuse about each others feelings, and sometimes felt the same way about side characters who unintentionally made things worse for the main characters. But I loved the characters, they were all well written - even the supporting/background characters - and I often found myself howling with laughter over some of the jokes cracked.

If you're looking for a cute contemporary romance that fits the above tropes, are fans of dog heists and need a good book for the transitionary period between Halloween and Christmas then this is the book for you.

Having lived in the Cotswolds and knowing chefs located there, I was thrilled to start a book with a culinary backdrop that has the same location. Let's dig in.
From the first fiery clash between Ruby and the brooding Chef Garett, the story simmers with tension, turning up the heat with every chapter. Fans of enemies-to-lovers and grumpy-sunshine tropes will find themselves swooning over this spicy yet tender workplace romance.
Garett is a cinnamon-scented storm cloud of a chef, nursing his wounds from betrayal and loss. Their chemistry is undeniable, with their banter as sharp as a freshly honed chef’s knife. As they navigate their messy feelings and Garett’s secret quest to reclaim his beloved dog, Cookie, the pair's journey is both heartwarming and hilariously chaotic.
The cookery school setting, complete with a baker competition and mouthwatering culinary details, adds a delightful layer to the story. Ruby’s growth under Garett’s mentorship, paired with her determination to stand up for herself, makes her an endearing protagonist. Garett’s guarded yet vulnerable nature, slowly chipped away by Ruby’s sunshine personality, provides plenty of emotional depth to balance the humor and spice.
The book doesn’t shy away from tension—whether it’s Ruby’s fears of letting someone into her family’s world again or Garett’s inner struggle to keep his secrets from tearing them apart. When the snowstorm traps them together, their sizzling attraction is impossible to ignore, leading to moments that will have readers blushing and cheering in equal measure.
With nods to The Great British Bake Off and holiday warmth, Go Cook Yourself is a treat for romance fans. Its blend of found family, Christmas charm, and swoon-worthy romance makes it a perfect read for the holiday season—or any time you crave a love story with a touch of spice and heart.

Thank you so much to Rebecca Chase and NetGalley for sending me this ARC! Who doesn't love a grumpy chef that melts like butter for a sunshine baker?? 👩🏼‍🍳👨🏻‍🍳🤭

4.25⭐️//2.5🌶️

After her life goes up in flames, Ruby finds her way back to her family's business in the Cotswolds, a cookery school that has recently employed a grumpy, highly-rated chef, Garrett. Ruby is unsure about what to do next and how to make strides in her career, while trying to reunite with her parents and siblings. While working at the cookery, she grows closer to Garrett, the proclaimed "second hottest chef" on her list, and enlists him in helping her prepare for a baking contest. Garrett is working on regaining his good standing among chefs and restaurant owners, and laying low until he can get his life back on track. As they grow closer, so does their attraction, and after pretending to date in front of her ex, it becomes increasingly harder to make out what is pretend and what isn’t.

In this house, we appreciate a grumpy MC that will soften for that one person. I enjoyed seeing how Garrett learned how to trust and let people in his life. It was a beautiful story about found family, and what it is like to be loved for who you are, not who you ought to be. I also loved to see how Garrett supports, encourages, and shows Ruby all the ways that she deserves to be loved, cherished and appreciated. He builds up her confidence, while also proving himself that he is worthy of her love too. Thank you, Rebecca, for this lovely story, and especially for the set-up: English countryside, the time before Christmas🎄, and adorable puppy🐶!

Favourite scene: Christmas Cloud Burst (we love a chaotic family gathering)🥘🍳
Favourite 🌶️ scene: Snowed in (ft. Kath the meteorologist) 🤭❄️

⭐️⭐️⭐️ [3.5 stars]

As her life is basically ruined, Ruby goes back to her roots, her family business.
When we first met Garrett we see him as a grumpy chef who is in love with his dog. [I.AM.SOLD. TAKE MY MONEY!!]

I don't want to give much of the plot away guys, so read it yourself!

Ruby
I adore her. She is extremely beautiful and I thoroughly enjoyed her sunshine personality. Her replies were witty and she is filled with sarcasm. I love that she takes absolutely no sh*ts from other people.
She bakes and is great at it.
I love her chaotic personality from the second she hurt herself with the knife.
She is caring, kind and might I say, Great at flirting.

Garett.
Initially an arse [understandably so] is a gentle guy whose personality intrigued me.
I adored reading his point of view. I liked how his closed off personality went through a character development trusting ruby and the cloud burst family.
I also love how Garrett supports, encourages, and shows Ruby all the ways that she deserves to be loved, cherished and appreciated. He builds up her confidence instead of being egoistic while also proving himself that he is worthy of her love too. i think the moment in the book where it was mentioned that he knew he shouldn't bend down to talk to ruby I knew i would love him. [that is literally so real. I hate it when people bend down to talk to me just because I'm short. Stop mocking me fr]

My favourite moments were the dognapping scenes [ I love cookie] the moment when they pretended to date to get back at ruby's ex and the family gatherings [i love chaotic and wholesome moments]

Thank you so much to Rebecca Chase and NetGalley for sending me this ARC

When I saw the cover and title of this book I immediately requested it. This cover is absolutely adorable. I just love a kitchen romance and look at Cookie the dog how could you not love this cover? I loved all the mentions of cooking and food in this book since it was a kitchen romance and it definitely made me want to eat with the Clouds. As someone who loves baking and the holidays this adorable grumpy x sunshine book hit the spot. The banter between Garett and Ruby was so much fun and their chemistry was undeniable. Garett was in fact a very grumpy chef but at least he acknowledges it and he does have some pretty valid reasons. Ruby is sweet as sugar, at least until she starts bickering with the grumpy chef. There was absolutely no doubt in my mind that these two would never be able to ignore the attraction sizzling between them and the whole “no strings” was a silly idea when the strings were being pulled before they even slept together. I mean their “faking” around Ruby’s ex-boyfriend, no one thought it was fake including them. Although this book focuses on Garett and Ruby I have to say I absolutely adore all the side characters, from Ruby’s family, to their coworkers at the cookery, to Garett’s pseudo-sister these characters were all so sweet and hilarious. I love that they made their own chosen family bringing together everyone they love especially during the holiday season. The romance may have been the main story but the found family was the cherry on top!

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!!!

Okay, foodies and romance lovers, this book is everything! If you love a good slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers romance with vibes like The Bear and Great British Bake Off, Go Cook Yourself is a must-read. 🥄

🧑‍🍳 Meet Ruby, a fiery, sarcastic chef who’s been underestimated one too many times, and Garett, a chef with a soft spot for... well, Ruby, even though their meet cute starts off with a shouting match. The banter is chef’s kiss perfection, and the way they slowly come to understand each other? So satisfying! I'm simply obsessed with Ruby and Garret and the delicious journey to a happily ever after.😌✨

But it’s not just romance—there’s a whole journey about finding your own voice, knowing your worth, and making your dreams a reality. And the food descriptions? WARNING: Don’t read this on an empty stomach. 😋🥐

💕 Reasons to Read:
✨ Witty banter that keeps you hooked
✨ Relatable heroine with major ambition
✨ Delicious descriptions of food
✨Hot hero with cooking skills
✨One bed
✨Fake dating
✨Found family
✨Christmas setting
✨Grumpy x sunshine

By the end, you’ll be rooting for these two, hungry for more of Rebecca Chase’s writing, and maybe even inspired to try cooking something new (or just order takeout). 📲💖

Go Cook Yourself was a fun read! From a grumpy MMC to a sunshine FMC to entertaining family members, Go Cook Yourself had a little bit of everything that makes a romance book a romance book.

Our MCM, Garret, self-proclaim grumpy chef has been blackmailed, blacklisted and his poor dog was being held hostage.

Our FMC, Ruby, lovable underestimated pastry chef has just found out her favourite bowl was broken by her boyfriend…. With his pants down with her (ex)best friend (I’ll let you connect the dots…).

With nowhere to go, both characters found themselves at the Cloud cookery school. Garret’s now a chef there as it was the only place he wasn’t blacklisted to work. Ruby’s now the manager as it’s her family’s school.

We follow how they fall in love with the help of a meddling family, a snowstorm, and forearms.

The overall story was good, if not a bit predictable (but what romance isn’t?). It had plenty of witty banter and the Cloud family dynamic and wiliness to accept everyone was very nice. Overall, I would recommend this book.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

As well, I want to apologize to the author as I am late posting my review.

Thank you, NetGalley and Rebecca Chase for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The insta crush was a bit much and led to very little chemistry between the characters. The first several pages were repetitive in the dialogue and thoughts “oh they’re hot so I can’t focus or they’re annoying and hot and I shouldn’t want them” over and over again. And I got an ick from the author using the term gob so much for mouth. The characters and behaviors do not read or feel like real people and the interactions feel forced. The writing is shit. “I bet his dick tastes of magical cookie dough”. What the fuck. And “do these (cupcakes) have your boobs on them”. Garbage. And the constant term of grumpy chef had me wanting to throw something through a wall very early on in the story. The author is very much a teller, a repetitive one at that, and not a show-er. The characters are straight up annoying, their communication is shit, and the dialogue is abysmal. This quote from page 84 captures it all well. “don’t enter that competition if you know what’s good for you. In fact, listen to me. I know what’s good for you, so don’t enter it”. And dude, we get it, she smells like passion fruit. I didn’t even really like the dog in this one, that’s how much I disliked the book.

Go Cook Yourself by Rebecca Chase
🧁🧁🧁🧁

Thank you to Rebecca Chase and NetGalley for this ARC!

I found this book to be incredibly sweet! I loved the grumpy x sunshine dynamic. Garrett, a grumpy chef, is really just a guy trying to find his place in the world while also trying to regain his sense of purpose and get his dog, Cookie, back.
Ruby makes her entrance by walking in on her ex-boyfriend and former business partner, which forces her to return home after being away for so long. While helping at her family’s cookery school, where her sister is preparing for maternity leave, Ruby finds herself working alongside her second-favourite chef.
The banter between Ruby and Garrett is electric, balanced perfectly with just the right amount of spice. The family dynamic adds a lovely touch to the story.
I can’t wait to read more about the Cloud family's adventures!

Go Cook Yourself by Rebecca Chase is a charming, heartwarming romance focused on Ruby, a baker who returns to her hometown after discovering her boyfriend’s betrayal with her best friend. Back home, she crosses paths with Garrett, a former chef who’s lost his livelihood, his beloved dog, and now works at her family’s cooking school.

Author skilfully weaves a captivating story, perfectly balancing steaming romance between the two main characters, baking, cooking, and the bonds of family. The witty banter between Ruby and Garrett keeps the story lively, while the well-crafted character development brings depth to the story, making it easy to root for them. Even the side characters add warmth and charm to the narrative.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Rebecca Chase for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I'm thoroughly enjoying being in my romance/rom com/ romantasy fantasy era and was so glad to get the ARC of Go Cook Yourself by Rebecca Chase.

After reading this I did recommend it to a few of my friends and they have enjoyed it also. Who doesn't enjoy a wee Grumpy Sunshine read, and I loved the MCs in Ruby and Garrett who both have there problems and down in there luck, but you couldn't help but root for them and enjoy the journey. Also don't want to forget our wee pooch in cookie! Give me a book with a pupper in it and I'm happy! All the characters including the supporting cast worked so well within this and I loved how supportive they were as well!

- if any one can point me in the direction or know how to find my very own Grumpy cook let me know where haha but I hope to read more by this author and see what's next in store for this family!

“And there goes another brick in my barrier wall. I’m falling hard.”

OMG!!! This book is SUCH a delight!

If you’re craving a romance that’s warm, witty, & downright delicious, this is your next read. From start to finish, the book wraps you in the cozy comfort of baking and the heat of slow-burning attraction.

Ruby & Garrett are opposites that spark in the best way. Their banter is chef’s kiss and full of snark, teasing, and tension. The cooking school setting, baking scenes, and food descriptions make your senses tingle. This book made me smile, made me yawn, yeah I stayed up late to finish it and it made me want to curl up with a cup of tea and a good pastry. It’s the kind of romance that’s funny, heartfelt & swoony. You don’t have to wait, drop everything and read it.

As soon as I saw this book I thought it would be good and apparently I wasn't wrong🤭🤍

thank you to Net Galley and the author for the ARC of this book!!

this book was good! it wasn’t my favorite book, but I did enjoy it!

I think it was a bit hard to navigate because there was random one liners that just threw me off. I think they were meant to be funny but I don’t think it went that way with me.

I thought the premise was really good! I did think the whole thing with mmc’s nemesis was a bit weird and the whole dog thing didn’t make sense to me.

overall, I don’t think this was a bad book! I just don’t think it landed with me that well. AND THATS OKAY! I still think anyone whole enjoys the summary should DEFINITELY check this book out!

2.5 stars. Thank you netgalley for an arc copy of this book.
This book follows Ruby who found her boyfriend cheating on her with her businesses partner, so she decides to move and take a job at her family’s cooking school. Our other main characters, Garrett was betrayed by his former business partner and is now working as a teacher at the cooking school.
Unfortunately this book was not for me. I didn’t connect with the characters and I didn’t find the passion between the characters that I was looking for. I know some people will love this book but sadly I am not one of them.
