Girl.
What. The. Hell. What happened. Where did the plot go? Where did the story go? I am almost speechless at the cliff dive this book took!
A text. A FUCKING TEXT?!
I'm not really a stickler for things, if there's cellphones in fantasy, sure whatever man. But you're going to tell me that one of the biggest buildups of the book is set in motion by a fucking text message asking to basically square up!? You've lost me. That's my fantasy line in the sand. And the cliffhanger made no sense this time. Like it did, but it didn't.
I don't know. I really don't, but this one lost me and I honestly don't know if I'll read the final book. The ending fell so flat, and so did like 50% of this book.

Well, it dragged on for too long. I completely lost interest in this book, and I waited for the next one to come out to finish this one, but i cannot even remember what happened in this book, its so dull, same actions over and over. Some council wanted to make them mates, wtf I thought they are already mates. This book has no plot!
Wont be continuing with this series.

2.5⭐️ this series just got repetitive and that twist at the end just seemed like it was there just to have another book. It’s supposed to be an academy but they don’t go to classes and it doesn’t really seem like a school at all. Addi and the guys randomly sprouted an emotional connection through sex and yeah I was just there for the spice in this one

Author definitely not present

As in my last review, I again have decided that the author was not present during the creation of this book either. Things just don’t fit together, as if what was previously written was forgotten and also as if logical thought wasn’t used when developing the details for the arcs or really any part of the storyline.

For example, at one point Cass decides that Addi needs to see Janie to work through some wolf things that are causing her to be in a weakened vulnerable state. Now, it has been well documented that 1.) the Kenner Compound is not safe for Addi. Many females want to duel her for Cass 2.) Kenner himself already wanted a tourney of wolves to go at her for Cass 3.) Book 1 set the precedent that the wolf origins can smell the other origins to identify them and Addi has been scented before, just being there at Janie’s diner and 4.) Kenner and the Council are still attempting to do some forced fated mate magic and puppeteering on them. So you would think he would call and ask Janie to step off Kenner Territory, seeing as it’s unsafe, especially in her vulnerable state… but nope. He. Takes. Her. There. 😐 So, you know nothing good comes of it. That was so illogical and shockingly, and not one of her other “Kryptos” thought of a logical alternative…

Then, a bit later in the book. They are fleeing council hands, again, and Brody has to decide where to take them quickly and he opts for the fountain on campus. In itself, there wasn’t really anything wrong with that, but there was a better option of Kryll’s home. The reason it wasn’t chosen was another illogical notion. The affliction that bothered Addi causing the above mentioned vulnerability happened while she was there… but it also was related to a specific moon cycle and thus should have been a moot point at this time in the story… unless it was still in that same moon cycle.

Then. There. Was. So. Much. Of. This. And.
The prose was much.
The prose was overboard.
The prose was dense and detracting.
The prose killed the book.

Well, not really, it was already dead… but it did add a few extra stab wounds.

The premise of this series is that the actual true heir of a kingdom had to fraudulently enroll in an academy to become the heir of the very same kingdom. As the story unravels, with the author throwing everything but the kitchen sink in, it is revealed that the reason the previous fae monarch was overthrown and thus made a bad name for all fae as weak and poor leaders is because of what his fae queen did… and his queen wasn’t even a fae to begin with! She was a damn wolf! But all this hatred and prejudice is thrown towards fae! All the while, the wolves seemed to have lived prestigiously for these last 16 years while the fae have lived in hiding and shame. The fae, the founders of the kingdom… So really… why does this series even exist?

And back to illogical… these characters are supposed to be grown, attending an academy to be the ruler of a whole kingdom. They need to be just, be independent, be able to stand their ground, be compassionate and have some empathy. They need to know right from wrong, have morals, etc. These guys though… they are still listening and answering to their parents! Parents they KNOW are up to no good! Still getting beaten and punished by their parents, being summoned by them, to which they answer their beck and calls… but the author wants us to believe they can run a kingdom? Really? This is why I’m saying she wasn’t present. Like, she didn’t think through the entirety of who these characters are supposed to be to have them behave that way, even if not at first, but at some point for growth, well before this book. They don’t. Yeah, they get mad and do some teenage rebelling; not answering calls or being late when called, but ultimately they still catered to their evil parents until the end of this book. BOOK 4! Addi was just as immature but she gets a slight pass on some stuff because she grew up isolated to a certain extent, but at least her role model was of excellent character and morals.

Nope. I will not be reading book 5 with a surprise auntie, more prose, illogical storyline and weird sex scenes where body parts, positions and movements are carried out in impossible ways. I’ve given this series enough of my life. See my notes highlights and commentary on Goodreads. Happy reading!

WHAT THE! I can’t believe it’s finished like that. My head and heart is racing and my mind is blown. This series just keeps on giving and the plot twists are friggin brilliant!

The looming threats, drama, intensity is off the charts and that we get to see the connection between Addi and her men grow effortlessly throughout. For me what caught my heart was Cassian. He unraveled throughout and felt and saw a vunerability!!

SWOON, the guys have fully captured my heart and left me absolutely swooning after them. I love how KC enabled us to connect and understand the guys in more depth and damn... I am all friggin for it. Did I mention the SPICE? Addi is one lucky ladyyy for sure 🥵🥵🥵

Addi is a friggin badass and leaves me speechless. I am LOVING this series.

Did not expect that!
Oh gosh poor Addi what a way to discover her wolf 😳 you wonder what on earth can go wrong next for the lass but fate certainly has some zingers to throw at her throughout the start of this book 😬 her men really form a unit and a family around her in this book, each playing to their strengths but showing their own vulnerabilities 🥰🥰 it’s interesting to see how as truths start to become known there are definitely sides drawn and some more shocking than others 😲 it’s clear Addi is absolutely becoming the person she is meant to be with her protective instincts, fairness and determination - and those on the Kingdom are realising it 😍 this book is really clever because you’re thinking well this seems to be wrapping up rather quickly and then yikes…we get a whole new danger throw in 😣 Cannot wait for the final book!

Hmm. This fourth book didn’t quite hit the mark for me.

It actually kind of lost me, which is probably why it took me a few days to finish. There was all this build up from the previous book, but I didn’t feel like it was tied together all that well here. The plot felt scattered, and things got repetitive like the whole Kenner situation? The council drama? We've seen it before, and it just dragged a bit.

What also really threw me off was how characters just kept dying left and right, and some of those deaths didn’t even get a proper resolution. A few felt so random or unnecessary that I ended up feeling more annoyed than sad.

And okay, let’s talk about the spice—because wow, there was kinda a lot. Like, almost every other chapter had something. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good steamy scene as much as anyone, but I didn’t expect this book to lean that heavily into it. It started to feel like too much, especially when I was trying to follow the actual plot. It kind of took me out of the story at times. That said, I will admit the spice was written really well, it wasn’t cringe or gross, just... a lot. 🫤

Also, can we talk about Fairbourne? Yeah, I was completely wrong about him. Fuck that guy.

But Kryll in this book? That man? I love him. The other parts I loved and enjoyed about this book? Yeah, that was him.

So yeah, while I still found some things to enjoy, overall this one kind of fell flat. I'm sad that at this point I just want this series to end because I don't like DNF'ing books. I really thought this would be one of my new favourites. 🥹

“What do you see in the mirror, Dagger?”
“I don’t know.”
“Shall I tell you what I see when I look at you?”
“I see the heir of the Floodborn Kingdom.”

Before I can question what he’s doing or why he’s harming himself, he strokes his finger over my scars, the droplets of blood cool against my flesh as my pulse rings in my ears.
Understanding washes over my soul as my breath stutters in my chest. My nostrils flare as I bite back tears, all while his eyes search mine, a hint of panic in his gaze as I choke out a sob and lift my hands to my ears, ghosting the trail he just took.
My heart ricochets against my chest as my eyes fall closed. I search for the scars that are burnt into my mind as well as my flesh, but that’s not what my fingers find.
I gasp and choke as tears stream, unabashed, down my cheeks, staining my skin for all of eternity as I feel the tips of the ears I thought I’d only ever recall in dreams. (this scene 🥹🫶)

To have been loved by her for five minutes is better than never to have been loved by her at all.

“What I should say to you, what I should have said forever ago, is that we only function with you. This only works because of you. Our only chance of surviving this carnage is you. I’m sorry for thinking you would just magically know what I was thinking.”

“It is with great honor and privilege that I announce the new heir of the Floodborn Kingdom, Miss Adrianna Reagan.”

“It gives me great pleasure to say it, Adrianna. Bring the family home, it’s time.”

3.5

This series is starting to drag a bit. Some choices feel out of character for the MC’s and there just to create drama. Like Cassian wanting to go off to duel his dad alone thinking he was going to lose. He has been fighting against his dad throughout the entire series and as soon as his dad sends him a text beckoning him home he just wants to trot off to his doom?!? It felt odd and was only there for him to have an epiphany that they are stronger together.

Despite some annoyances I feel like Addi is back to her bad ass self in this book. She has finally accepted the guys and how important they are to her.

Raiden’s absolute obsession with her is my favorite thing. At the start of the series he was so concerned with his image and his superiority to others. That man is the biggest simp for Addi and he doesn’t care who knows it.

Final thoughts. I still think this series is worth the read if you like paranormal academy romance but I’m glad I only have one book to go.

what a ride!!

I loved this one! I wasn’t expecting half of what happened, but I knew it was going to be twist after twist! I definitely didn’t see that ending coming… I feel like she maybe could have been warned? Or maybe it wasn’t thought about until it was seen? Anyway, I absolutely adore Adrianna and can’t wait for the next one!!!

Really, really good read! With this FMC, I was all on board until the full self-loathing happened over something small within the plot. Self-doubt is fine and all. She’s experienced it throughout the books, but this one was like a whirlpool and I just wanted to grab her by the hair, yank her out of it, and tell her to get herself together.

Finally DNFing this series on book 4. Probably should have way earlier on. I just can’t get myself to care for a single one of the characters. The mating aspect in this series makes no sense. There is virtually no plot. There is also no chemistry between the FMC and any of the 4 men. It was like a guilty pleasure at first, but there just isn’t enough to like to keep me going

Wooooow so many twists and turns. I’m happy that all 5 are mates and things are going better for them. So many things are going on and I feel bad for Addi for having to go through so much. I can’t wait to see what book 5 brings us next especially with that cliffhanger!

Oh my goodness…. The twist and turns in this book had my heart racing! KC Kean is the best at delivering plot lines that I would never see coming and this book is no exception. Honestly is probably some of her best work ever and I have read all of her stories. Do not hesitate to pick this book up. The final book in the series comes out soon so it is only a short wait for the next book.

Book 1 was very interesting, 2 was okay, 3 was average and I gave up on 4.
What could have easily been a good trilogy, was extended for no reason as the vast majority of the conflicts had already been solved. New, silly conflicts either silly discussions were created… and I just couldn’t.
Not to mention every interaction between Adrianna and the guys (calling them her kryptos was unnerving) ended up in sex.

The worst MFC I’ve come across yet

MFC is as straight up betch. To everyone. Until the very end of the book there isn’t a single conversation that she isn’t arrogant, mean, hateful or argumentative. Never for any reason. She is beyond selfish and immature. She admits multiple times that she is selfish and it’s what has driven all of the many mistakes she has made.

Funny that at the end when she says she is incapable of being selfish. Come on author, keep up with your own characters.

Being immersed in her mind for hours while reading is too much to deal with. The hatefulness she exudes is not something I particularly want to spend my time with.

And for the love of dog, why do they continuously show up at the wolf compound when they are quite clear that the alpha wants her? For crying out loud, this is the person who is supposed to lead the kingdom? I wouldn’t trust her to run a lemonade stand, let alone a kingdom.

The ending is weak as heck. That’s supposed to be a cliffhanger? And the upcoming storyline tied to it? Gah. Just nope.

This series is full of immature actions, characters and dialogue. If it weren’t for them constantly getting it on, I’d say that this was a YA book. However the nonstop bedroom (actually anywhere in public) action pushes it out of YA territory. That is the only thing “mature” about the book.

And speaking of so called romance. WTF was up with the first go round with Kryll. It was so embarrassing (for the author). The level of cringe was through the roof. I couldn’t stop laughing. Not because it was funny, but because it was just that bad.

I would really pay attention to the reviews that have the lower ratings of you have real interest in wanting to read something enjoyable and worth the time you give up. Too many of the reviews believe the MFC is this strong woman. Sorry, I don’t agree that a-hole equals strong. Not for a woman or a man. Being an a-hole just makes you an a-hole.

DNF @ 80%

I just couldn’t do it any longer. This seems to be a running issue I have with this author, in that I enjoy a series somewhat, but I can never finish the series. I always lose interest or get annoyed with something within it. This is my third unfinished series with this author, and it will be my last try with this author.

It just seems like there’s always something missing in her series and she almost always has very unlikable FMC’s. They have to be very masculine and dominating, and the men always have to kind of be lesser than and almost submissive and goddess worshiping because if they aren’t there punished by the domineering FMC. And I fucking hate that shit.

I also just lose interest. I feel like she’s not great at keeping you captivated in the story. And that’s obviously a big no-no if you’re writing a series.

At this point I am just reading to be able to write an honest review.
These books are terrible. I am unsure, but I feel like copy/paste was used a lot. Still no character building. And the thing which is driving me absolutely crazy is the fact that the sex in this book is written as BDSM (poorly and in bad taste), yet…. The men talk about love and devotion and all these fine relationship qualities while gang banging the object of their devotion. I just can’t recommend. Ladies. If you are reading this for the sex I hope you realize this is not normal behavior.

I loved it!

Warning: For mature audiences. Contains mature content and themes.

It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. This book is Book 4 of 5 of the Heir Academy series. Once upon a time, a wondrous Kingdom flourished under the reign of its proud Fae king and his family. Though all was not as it seemed when poisonous schemes and utter betrayal lead to the downfall of an empire. Sixteen years have since passed, the lands now lay in ruin and crime prevails despite the will of The Council. Their mission becomes clear produce an heir and unite the Kingdom to restore its former glory, and so becomes Heir Academy, the ultimate trial of strength and perseverance to forge the Kingdom’s savior. The path to greatness is paved with valuable lessons and this journey has proven that nothing is as it seems. Everyone at Heir Academy has a secret, friends and enemies alike, and it’s up to her to navigate them all and get them out alive. Raiden, Kryll, Brody, and Cassian, she’s not sure that she would have survived this long without them and it’s about time she stopped ignoring her heart. The problem is, they walked right into their trap, but she’s not easy prey, she’s the rightful heir of Floodborn Kingdom and she’ll stop at nothing to prove that she’s worthy. Fortune may favor the bold, but fate favors the brave and she plans to gather every ounce that she possesses to win her crown. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. It’s a must read. I highly recommend to everyone.

If the series ended here it would be a pretty perfect series

I'm unimpressed with the ending of this book only because the entire story could, and probably should, end about 3 paragraphs before it does.

Overall this series is pretty good so far. The storyline is slightly unique but familiar enough to not seem to absurd yet (although I suspect book five may be a jump the shark fail). The pacing is decent and the editing is reasonable. The entire series does have some issues with dropped plot threads, messed up details, and random oddball moments.

The FMC is solid from start to finish. Smart, capable, caring and mostly selfless, Addi manages to hit all the best FMC highlights with a reasonably well balanced sprinkle of flaws. The guys are 50% great. Brody and Kryll specifically are great MMCs (despite Kryll being possibly the worst name the author could have chosen). They are both reasonable, dedicated, a bit silly at times but all in all truly good from the first time we see them on page to the end. Cassian and Raiden are relatively awful MMCs. Selfish, self-centered, and terrible, these two only improved moderately after they were forced into place.

The side characters, namely Arlo, Flora and Janie are perfect. The antagonists are plentiful and properly meeting their resolution.

One thing that has bugged me excessively is the author's use of "fated" in regards to forced matings. It feels very much like a stupid choice in the hopes of capturing sales based on a misused trope. Strictly dropping that word from the entire series would improve it for me massively.

Man does KC Kean know how to bring you to the brink and leave you hanging off the cliff but in the best possible way. After all, the series is five books, so I knew there would be a cliffhanger at the end, just did not see this ending coming.
The fourth installment of the Heir Academy series takes off at a sprint from the first page and does not let up until the last. I breezed through this in a single day unfortunately because now I have to wait for the final book in the series to come out. But I cannot say I regret it because this was so worth the read.
I love how KC writes her heroines...strong-willed, smart, sexy, and a force to be reckoned with. Addi is no exception. Her four bossy, hot as Hades fated mates finally win their place in her heart despite her best efforts to remain detached. Lots of spice in this one between all five of them; I think I may have drooled a little bit.
The action is non-stop throughout the book and parts will keep you on the edge of your seat in anticipation of what is coming next. It was hard to see who was friend or foe so there were some surprises for sure. I was hoping they would all get at least a moment of peace but alas the hits keep coming for our group of warriors and they take on every challenge and come through it even stronger together.
As with all of KC Kean's books, this one is incredible. I am so looking forward to the final installment in this series.

Great Book

Lots of steam and action in this one. They are being bullied and attacked on all fronts and Adrianna is the one all the baddies want. She takes her hits and keeps on stomping through ever challenge. Never letting the guys try to coddle her. I loved how she got to spend time with her sister and dad in the dragon kingdom. I’m glad a lot of the secrets came out and it tied up a lot of plot holes from previous books. The amethyst gem was broken in the previous book so I didn’t clue in when clementine spoke to her in the prison. Just as they defeat the council, this psycho aunt shows up. Of course Addie didn’t know she had an aunt so there’s that. She’s crowned the Heir at the end before Bozzelli the headmaster is stabbed by her psycho aunt claiming that the position is on the table meaning she can also claim it. Speaking of Bozzelli, she warmed up to them in this book, but I didn’t hear enough self loathing for doing what she was told to do when she was Punishing Adrianna in the previous books, so I never felt a proper connection. I’m so glad to read that her sister was healed, and how she was also healed in a scarred area that was a sad reminder of her youth. We got to learn more about that fateful night when the kingdom crumbled. I’m curious to know what was in the letter her mother left her. Can’t wait for the next!

2.75 — uhhhh…so that was a book…. I’m honestly pretty disappointed because things started off pretty good with the first two books but the nose dive this series has taken is too obvious to ignore now.

You can feel how much the story is dragging, and truthfully the stakes don’t feel intense at all. Stuff is getting thrown in but rushed quickly with minimal explanations or details, the romance is enjoyable at times but feels hollow at others, it’s just messy if I’m being honest.

Also I think this is the first time I’ve ever read a fated mates story where they kinda aren’t actually fated mates? Like I guess two of them are but the whole harem as a whole isn’t by their own choosing, like some random council of parents forced them into a joint mate bond for ‘villain purposes’ (dumb as fuck) and it was genuinely the most absurd plot line.

If I’m being honest, I don’t think I’m going to read the final book which sucks to say but I’ve lost interest and the cliff hanger at the end isn’t something I feel desperate to see resolved, I don’t even know how it would warrant its own book to begin with. SIGHHHH.

Heir Academy book four, not done yet

Spoilers in review: don't read if you haven't read book 4
Still a great series. Normally by the fourth in an ongoing series I'm pretty much done with it. Something about these characters has me continuing, even actually buying the books instead of ku. Honestly, I thought the series had to over in this one as we one by one defeated all the bad guys and the heir was within our grasp. All the fun love interests are warmly tucked in place, fated mates all secure. Then, on the last page, a whole new adversary appears out of almost nowhere, although there is a small hint. So, I guess I get to join this group of folks for another ride when book five comes out. Good story. My only real issue is if she has all these magical powers, air, fire, earth, water and light, plus all the shifters and mage magic, why doesn't she ever use those powers to assuage all the troubles she gets into? Smacking Valie around with air and water would have been a satisfying step.
