-- Caroline -- I’ve become a pro covering up my bruises. Jeans instead of skirts. Long sleeves instead of short. Until that day he didn’t pull his punches. My face looked like I went one round in a boxing ring and lost. My parents could only see his status. Unless I wanted to end up another tragic statistic there was only one solution. Run. Then I met him.
-- Dexter -- Everyone calls me Hawk. I’m VP of Primal Demons motorcycle club. I’ve been feeling a little restless with my life lately. The women may have different names, but they’re all the same. They only see status when they look at me. Unless I want to end up another clichéd’ biker there was only one solution. Solitude. Then I met her.
Melinda Valentine was born in upstate New York. Being the youngest of four children (and the only girl) made it easy for her to turn to books as a companion. As a young child she was whisked away to Baltimore, Maryland. She spent her youth reading books such as Nancy Drew, The Chronicles of Narnia and The Little House on the Prairie saga. However, it wasn't until she was twelve years old that she read a book (Stephen king's IT) that made her realize that someday, she would herself be a writer. After that her first (horrible) manuscript came to life. At thirteen she had received her very first rejection letter. Heartbroken, she continued to read even more to learn about the craft of writing. Today Melinda calls West Virginia home, with her swoon worthy husband , three hilarious children, and three crazy puppies. She creates characters that she hopes her readers fall in love with as much as she has.
I received an ALC and tandem read this (as I always do) and holy shit… obsessed. Savannah and Grayson absolutely ATE this up. The emotion, the tension, the way they brought both Caroline and Hawk control to life… unreal 🥵
Check your triggers, Caroline goes through it. On and off page.
This was one of those quick reads that hooks you immediately and doesn’t let go. From the first chapter, you’re thrown into Caroline’s world and it’s heavy. She’s been surviving, not living, and you can feel that desperation in every choice she makes.
Watching her finally choose herself and run was such a powerful turning point. And then… enter Hawk.
Hawk is that classic morally grey, rough around the edges biker, but underneath all of that, he’s soft where it counts. He sees Caroline for everything she’s been through and never once makes her feel small for it. I LOVED that he knew what he wanted early, but he also knew she wasn’t ready. He never pushed, never rushed her. He let her choose, let her want it… and the second she did?? Yeah. Game over.
I was giggling, kicking my feet at their early tension. The looks, the restraint, the “I want you but I’m not touching you until you’re ready” energy??? Inject it into my veins.
And when it finally hits… HELLO. Worth the wait. That soft, sheltered woman finally getting a man who knows exactly what he’s doing?? Say less.
The whole MC aspect had that found family vibe that just hits every time. They weren’t overly chaotic, but they were loyal, protective, and gave Caroline the safety she’s never had before. That healing journey was easily one of the strongest parts of the book. Ma and Pa?? Obsessed. And Aunt Becky?? Ride or die.
Yes, it’s a shorter read and you do feel that at times. Things move fast and I wouldn’t have been mad at more depth or a slower build. Some moments felt a bit extra, but honestly I was too entertained to care. For the length, it still packs in emotion, suspense, drama, and a solid romance arc.
Caroline taking control during that interview?? That was IT. Full body chills. Such a badass moment, and the fact that people actually showed up for her after everything she’d been through just made it hit even harder.
This one is messy, emotional, a little chaotic, but also healing, hot, and so satisfying.
Found family, protective biker, touch her and die energy, delayed gratification spice?? Yeah… I’m seated.
Narrated by Savannah Thomas and Grayson Owens, this was a quick, spicy listen and a first read by Melinda Valentine. Savannah and Grayson absolutely nailed Caroline and Hawk. This story is full of fierce loyalty, protection, and betrayal. There are so many good and bad things in these pages, you'll want to check the trigger warnings.
Hawk is the VP of his family's MC. He's ex-military, and he's come home to follow in his dad's footsteps. He's living the same days, and he's getting a little tired of the routine of it all. Until fresh meat walks through his doors.
Caroline is on the run. Her past will haunt her forever if she doesn't hide, so she books the first bus ride out of town, and makes it nearly across the country before she gets off in Arizona. She wanders into a cafe for some food, where she meets Hawk's aunt, who tells her she has a place where she can stay. Little does Caroline know, she'll be walking into the hawk nest and finding her soulmate (and he's a little scary). She grows fiercer with every day she's under Hawk's protection, but that doesn't mean the past isn't lurking in the shadows.
READ IF YOU LOVE: - Dark romance - Abused FMC (Not by MMC) - Morally grey MMC - Ex military - Hidden identity - Found family (but really CHOSEN family) - Curvy FMC - Motorcycle Club - Fiercely protective - Wonderfully brave
THE AUDIOBOOK: Quick. Spicy. Super easy to listen to in an afternoon. This had everything I want in a dark MC romance and the audiobook was the perfect way to devour this story!
-I Enjoyed reading this book. It was short and quite simple but it sometimes felt like I was a wattpad book. The elements were just the fact that the male main character was part of a biker gang, his parents also part of that, illegal dealings and stuff like that, the female main character a damsel in distress and she’s the only one who can make the guy soft when he never was. The combination of everything just lead my mind to think as if I was reading a fan fiction of something. The writing also added to that feeling.
-The characters were alright but again, they feel quite basic and typical for a wattpad book. The damsel and the tough guy. What really bothered me in this book, though, was the fact that his parents told her to call them ‘ma’ and ‘pops’ and that is something in fiction that I absolutely despise. I don’t know anyone and I would never call someone else’s mother whom I just met ‘ma’. I understand the she had a difficult life and her parents weren’t really there for her but it still feels weird and totally unrealistic.
-The ending was a bit excessive for me. I expected something like that to happen but it felt a bit too much. To be honest, the whole book was a bit excessive. I don’t really have much else to sya about the ending other than that.
Audio Review: Duet Narration by Savannah Thomas and Grayson Owens
Tropes: MC Romance Forced Proximity Runaway Bride He Falls First Hurt/Comfort
From the Ashes follows Caroline as she escapes a nightmare. Please check your triggers, because she goes through so much. Her parents completely failed her by prioritizing status, and her abusive "fiancé" is complete trash. When she finally runs away to save her own life, she encounters Hawk, the VP of the Primal Demons MC, who is fighting his own internal restlessness.
Watching Caroline's transformation was easily the best part of the book. I love how she stood up for herself and began taking her power back. Hawk is everything you want in an MC hero—grumpy, protective, and completely devoted to his "Sunshine."
Listening to Savannah Thomas and Grayson Owens was such an engaging experience. They brought an incredible amount of passion, tension, and emotion to the story. Savannah captured both the fear and the rising resilience of Caroline, while Grayson nailed the protective, alpha essence of Hawk. The duet format kept me completely immersed from start to finish.
An unforgettable, high-intensity novella that will hold you captive from the very first page!
A huge thank you to Melinda Valentine for this audio.
This was such a riveting story. Caroline is in a delicate position in life and barely holding everything together. She is taking her life back. Hawk is a morally grey teddy bear. He showed such tenderness towards her in a time where she was truly delicate.
This was a short read that immediately captures your attention and holds onto it the whole time. It has some amazing action and suspense moments. I would absolutely read more from this author. So much was done in a short book. It was a nice well rounded story.

There were just a few things that bothered me. However, not enough to totally spoil the narrative.
Caroline’s last name is said to be Baker. Then switches to Gibbons. No apparent reason. I went back to double check because it confused me.
There was a time jump of two weeks. This was acceptable, but I think a two-month time jump would have been more plausible for her to genuinely begin to feel at ease and trusting.

This was a quick read - I was immediately rooting for Caroline and my heart broke for what she had been through. She is on the run and ends at the MC…Hawk is immediately drawn to her. Can he keep her safe?
I liked the suspense too - even though it is a shorter book, I felt like we get a great connection and chemistry from Caroline and Hawk. I also loved the sense of found family ⭐️
I love it when a tough, rough around the edges guy is super sweet to the FMC. Hawk is that MMC - he is all brooding MC VP on the outside, and completely lovable on the inside!
✨What to Expect: 🥀Romantic Suspense 🖤Dark Romance 🏍️Motorcycle Club 💋Curvy FMC 🎭Hidden Identity ❤️🔥He’s Rough Around The Edges ❤️🩹Abused FMC ⭐️Found Family 🩶Morally Gray MMC
When Caroline met the aunt of the MMC with bruises all over her body, she was brought to a motorcycle club for a place to sleep and protection from whoever was hurting her. Hawk was enamored with her from the very beginning, and wanted to protect her at all costs. This motorcycle club is the tamest I’ve ever seen and that’s not really a bad thing. They will walk through fire for what is theirs, and Caroline (or Sunshine as they call her) becomes one of their own. Everything happened really fast in this book, and I would love a bit more of a deep dive. However, in the space allotted, I very much enjoyed this book!
This is a solid four star read. I typically stay away from MC romances just because I’ve never really vibed with any, but I really enjoyed this one. My ONLY criticism and the reason why it’s a four star and not five stars is because it was such a short story. Nothing wrong with a short story, but I wanted there to be so much more depth to the characters and yearning and working towards what they wanted. I wanted them to talk and communicate more but that couldn’t happen because of the length of the book. Over than that, I’m so glad I listened. The narration??? Phenomenal.
This was so addicting!! A woman, Caroline, in a terrible DV situation (thanks for her fuck ass parents) has saved up enough to finally escape and finds herself in a small town and ends up being under the protection of a local motorcycle club. She ends up with the VP of the MC who helps her fully realize her last relationship was the actual worst & how it feels to be with a real man who actually worships her. But her past catches up to her and it’s officially time to break out of her chains for good.
Type: audio (thanks MLA for my alc) Spice: 🌶️🌶️
🖤 Dark Theme 🖤 Abused FMC (Not by MMC) 🖤 Morally Grey MMC 🖤 Hidden Identity 🖤 Found Family 🖤 Curvy FMC 🖤 Motorcycle Club
This is my first Read by Melinda Valentine and I will definitely be reading more of her work. I was invested from the first page straight to the epilogue. Caroline is running from a bad situation at home, deciding to leave that all behind. On her way she ends up getting a place to crash with the local MC club, where she catches the attention of the VP and he has an instant obsession. I really enjoyed the development in Caroline's and Hawks relationship, it was a slow burn but it didn’t feel drawn out. Overall I enjoyed this book, and can’t wait to read more from Melinda Valentine.
Man oh man do I LOVE a MMC that's rough around the edges. Hawk/Dexter and his motorcycle club of misfits reminded me of Sons of Anarchy. At 169 pages this was a quick fun read for me and I loved Melinda Valentine's writing style. I couldn't put it down. I love a good suspenseful romance and From The Ashes did not disappoint. I'm about to binge the rest of Valentine's work asap! You will love this if you like: 🏍Romantic Suspense 🖤Curvy FMC 🏍Motorcycle Club MMC 🖤Abused Heroine/Protector 🏍Hidden Identity 🖤Found Family
This book hooked me from the beginning! I loved the premise and characters. While there were some unnecessary “stories” told in the beginning of the book that I think were used to set up the vulgarness of MC’s. I personally was very turned off hearing about a guy farting while receiving a BJ. It didn’t add to the story so could have easily been left out.
I liked the character development for Caroline!
I wish we could have seen what happened to her parents in the end. But I’m excited for the next book! I hope its Linc and Ruby!!

i haven’t read anything by this author before and i think i might need to rectify that immediately!!
this was short, spicy and delicious! everything i could have asked for and was so easy to finish in one day/sitting! check any triggers however! this is a dark romance and caroline GOES through it!!
caroline and hawk were sweet. he was patient and kind with her, possessive and protective. she is running from an abusive ex-fiancé when she gets introduce to hawk and his world. the found family in this was immaculate! just everything about this and this world was so good and i need more!!
This book is a pretty quick read. I just love Hawk the MMC, rough around the edges but a caring, understanding, melt in your arms kind of man who changed Carolines world. Caroline the FMC has been through so much trauma and these two just melt my heart together. Will everything come crashing down on Caroline again or will her new man and new found family be the ones to bring her to life? The storyline and the characters were great and I really enjoyed this 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ read by Melinda Valentine.
This was a quick and easy read for me. I enjoyed the relationship between Dexter and Caroline. It's a slow burn but it is a healthy and natural relationship and something Caroline really needed. The motorcycle club is very tame but they are protective of each other which really helps Caroline heal and feel safe. The book is very short and I would have liked a little more depth but overall I really enjoyed it. Thank you Kate Rock Book Tours and Melinda Valentine for sharing this book with me!
I read this in one sitting because I had to know how it ended. The writing is so evocative, I could feel her fear, her strength, and finally, her hope. Hawk and the MC world could’ve easily been romantic clichés, but the author gave them depth and vulnerability. What stayed with me most was not the romance (which was amazing), but her journey of reclaiming her life. It's more than just a love story, it's a story of survival and second chances.
From the Ashes was a short but great motorcycle romance that followed VP, Hawk and Sunshine, a woman on the run from her terrible life. There’s just something so iconic about an innocent girl finding family and love in a group of big bad bikers that really does it for me. Melinda didn’t shy away from “MC life” but still found a way to make me fall in love with the entire club (especially Ma). I flew through this book and loved their story.
ALC Review Plot 4/5 Character Development 3.5/5 Narration 5/5
This was a great shorter read that kept me entertained from start to finish. I'm very much a fan of the "who did this to you" trope, and this delivered. I enjoyed the characters and the plotline. I think some of the story could've been a bit more in depth and I would've preferred some more character development, but it was also a shorter story. Otherwise it was a solid audiobook!
This was such a sweet but heartbreaking read at times. It had me from the very beginning. I enjoyed watching Sunshine turn into a strong fierce woman during her journey and I enjoyed watching Hawk not only fall for her but treat her how she deserves to be treated after all she's been through. Not only that, but the family she gained. Perfection!
I received an ALC of this novel. The story was good, with a plot that pulls you in. It could have gone deeper and been more involved, but it still makes you want to know what happens next. The narrators did a fantastic job. They were believable and emoted well. This is a quicker, but satisfying read.
This was such a great, quick read. For starters, before reading this book please read the trigger warnings. There are parts that are hard to read but add to the story. A special thank you to the author for letting me be a part of this ARC team. The only thing i wish was different about this book was the length. I love a good quick book but I wish it was a little longer.
ARC REVIEW -
““Whoever did that to you will never touch you again. You are completely safe with me for as long as you need to stay.” I didn’t know what the fuck made me say that.”
From the beginning, Caroline has such a hard life. That is until she decides enough is enough, runs away and finds herself at a bikers clubhouse. Hawk, the handsome biker who usually never settles down decides that Caroline (Sunshine) is different and something overtakes him as soon as he sees her in the clubhouse. This story is full of twists, with sweet, sad, and awful moments. Caroline endures so much pain throughout this story and is such a strong character, throughout the whole thing you will rooting and hoping she gets her happy ending. You get to watch Caroline grow from a scared girl into a blossoming woman.
From the Ashes is a beautiful heartwarming and heartbreaking romantic suspense about an abused woman on the run. This story captivated me from the beginning and kept me enthralled until the very end. Caroline has left her abusive fiancé and parents and gone on the run. She ends up in Arizona where she meets Hawk and his motorcycle club through Becky. What will happen when Christopher finds her? Sit back, relax and get ready for a wild ride. The duet narration by Savannah Thomas and Grayson Owens was absolutely extraordinary. Savannah Thomas was superb as sweet, kind, beautiful, sheltered Caroline/Sunshine. All of her fear, abject terror, pain, hurt, despair, vulnerability, strength, resilience, lust, passion and love were clearly evident in her voice. Her Southern accent was perfect-like sweet Southern Belle. It was wonderful listening to her learning to trust, finding love and a family with Hawk. Grayson Owens was spectacular as kind, caring, loving, protective, possessive Dexter/Hawk. His gruff, growly, sexy tone was swoon worthy. His portrayal of evil Christopher-the sinister tone with that Southern drawl-WOW!! I love how he showed his Sunshine that he could be trusted and how much he loved her. I highly recommend listening to this fabulous audiobook. Thanks to Melinda Valentine for this ALC. AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: Story 5 stars Narration 5 stars
