Kian
Jimi Hendrix said, “Music is a safe kind of high.” This resonated deeply with me because when I played, I could feel the rhythm of the melody inside my veins. Each note flowed through my blood—creating, inspiring, and taking on a life of its own.
But everything I had known to be true had been stolen from me in one devastating moment, and music was all I clung to in my life of solitude and self-punishment. I had every intention of living out my days with just my music and my pain… when I saw her.

Jessa
From an outsider’s perspective, my life might appear challenging, and yet, I was at peace with it. I cared for my brother, and I made coffee. I didn’t need much else. I didn’t even dare hope for more. Hope disrupted my peace, and I couldn’t afford that. Until one day, a musician with sad eyes played me a song. And everything changed.

Love’s Cre•scen•do was one of those books that hooked me from the start. The writing was stunning, the characters engaging, and the story was breathtaking.

This story follows two characters who appear in similar places but couldn’t be more different in many ways. Jessa has had a difficult upbringing and a rough few years. Her challenges don’t harden her, though. Jessa is unusually optimistic and grateful in many ways, even though many would not be. She lives with her brother, Myles, and works as a barista.

Kian is a busker who lives in his van. He keeps to himself, and aside from working out and singing, he doesn’t do much else. Something traumatic happened to him, and it changed who he is and how he lives his life. Then he meets Jessa, and slowly but surely, everything changes for him.

Reading about broken characters who heal each other and fall in love is like catnip to me. I love books that make me feel, and this one gave me all the feels. I was obsessed with this book. I cried so much, but mainly because things in this story were personal to me. I felt like I knew these characters, and by the end, I was in love. I can’t recommend this book enough, I absolutely adored it.

This story revolves around Jessa, a young woman who selflessly takes care of her younger brother Myles, who is struggling with addiction, while they both are homeless. Jessa is determined to save up and provide a better life for them both. Enter Kian, who is dealing with his own personal struggles. He sees Jessa as a guiding light and as someone who can help him find his way back from tragedy.

I was fortunate to receive an advanced copy of this novel, and it moved me to tears. The emotions of love, pain, and healing depicted in this book feel so real. I particularly appreciated how the author incorporated factual information about addiction and the constant battle that individuals fighting addiction face every day. Although I haven't personally experienced addiction, I have endured the loss of a loved one due to it, and it's a painful experience. The author's ability to describe these emotions and struggles in the book was truly impressive.

The seamless weaving of love, heartache, and resilience in the book is truly praiseworthy. I applaud the author for her creativity and writing techniques.

"Don't take my sunshine"
This book broke me. It is not often a book makes me cry (in fact I think it has happened once before in the hundreds I have read). This book was so real I'm writing this review with tears rolling down my face.
Jessa has lived a hard life, she has been on the streets since she was a teenager and has worked as hard as possible to build a life for herself and her brother. She swore she had everything she needed in her life as long as her brother was safe and they had a semblance of home in their tent.
Kain lived in his van as his own personal penance. He grieved and he felt he was at fault for his loss.
Music man and coffee girl have a bond that cannot be broken. They are complete with eachother. They support eachother, they love together, they grieve together - they crescendo together.

Cute name, cute cover, cute sypnosis. I thought I finally found something cute to read and the beginning chapters were cute too, mind you I was giggling and shit. Their meet cute was indeed cute and so different from other books, like it's rare to read about this type of meeting. A homeless musician, playing songs for a homeless barista on her demand.

But cute things don't last, do they now? Because after like 10% of the book, suddenly this turns into insta-lust, like whenever or every time they think about each other, they think about how good it would feel to bang each other or they are fantasising about each other's body parts!?

Also her body proportion gave me a headache. She's thick and curvy but "only on the right parts" the parts being her ass, her thighs and her breasts 🫷🏻😑🫸🏻 BUT she has a small waist. That’s not curvy, That’s literally a man's fantasy of a thick and curvy woman's body that fat should only be on thighs, ass and boobs.

There was one scene when she was about to get raped but she thought about how she didn't have sex for about a year now. And then when the hero saved her, she kissed him without his consent. Totally baffled me btw. What's going on?

And then they really banged and it's just 31% into the book. By the amount of mystery surrounding Kian's past and the trauma Jessa has been through, you would expect slow burn and them really being vulnerable with each other but they are only horny with each other. This is not what I want when I start reading a book hoping for it to tug at my heart strings 🤦🏻‍♀️

They literally don’t respect each other, he’s obsessed with her boobs and she is obsessed with his facial hair and muscles.

I rage-read the rest of the book, and spoiler alert ‼️ NOTHING gets better except it gets WORSE. THE ONE TROPE I ABSOLUTELY HATE gets thrown into the book, it wasn’t even in trigger warnings. I was seeing it coming but I wanted to deny it, his dead fiancé. Yep. And I started to hate the book a little bit more. He was always like Jessa is so different from my typical type. And then I realised that the only reason he is with Jessa is because she doesn’t resemble his dead fiancée, that’s why he sought out a woman out of his usual type, because otherwise he would always imagine his dead fiancée. And it’s not that he really loves Jessa, her boobs is his only fav thing about her.

The only character, Myles, I gave a shit about has to be killed, right? 🤭

I literally with my whole heart believe that people were paid to write good reviews of this book.

I loved every part of this book! The banter between Kian and Jessa, the realities of the real world, the heart break and the tears. Trying not to wake my Sleeping spouse while crying, Not being able to read through tears, I needed a minute. when I thought had myself together I cried again. Then for good measure I bawled during the acknowledgments. There’s something so real about this book, the topics are real for so many. Often we feel alone in grief, in having a loved one with an addiction. This book brought me so much joy and so much pain the best and worst ways.

I loved this. I loved the little bits of humor thrown in. The messages on the cups was cute. The author has a way with conveying emotional connection, while also scattering some good 🌶️ within it, which makes it that much better. And the emotional connection extends outside of the romantic aspect as well. FMC’s relationship with her brother was beautiful. I look forward to future books.

Jessa and Myles stole a piece of my heart immediately the way they face the struggles of homelessness and Myles struggle with addiction. Add in Kian who is struggling with his own things and the way they connect.

The story and characters are absolutely incredible & relatable in ways and eye opening in others. I cried and this is one of a small handful of books that actually made me cry.

From the beginning this book has my emotions all over the place. I could honestly say my emotions were like a crescendo, I was happy, sad, and scared during this book.
I am a very emotional and visual reader so I love how you make the characters feel like real people. When I read this book you nagged me feel like I was apart of the story work being able to feel what Jessa, Kian, and Myles felt.
I absolutely loved how Jessa was such a strong, confident, and lovely young woman. She didn’t give two craps about what others thought of her (I need to be more like her).Jessa made the best out of Myles and her situation she always seemed to stay positive! I loved how much detail you put into each character how you explained things in such detail worth their struggles in life, but also the happiness.
During Kian’s last fight I could feel something was going to happen. I loved how Myles was there for Jessa when the news broke and how he made her understand why Kian did what he did. The emotions the characters had for each other were amazing as well, not just the spice with Jessa and Kian but also between Kian and Myles. The love Myles had for his sister was like no other he tried so hard to stay clean for her but it was also so heartbreaking when he couldn’t hold on anymore.
From reading this book I have learned that most addicts become addicts to forget about their demons or from PTSD. I haven’t personally dealt with addiction or have I had family or friends that have had addiction problems. After reading this story I feel like I have or if an understanding about what the person and their families feel and what they go through, because of writing about facts in the story but you e the facts so people could understand them. The part where Myles sponsor is talking at the funeral about what it is like for the family of the addicts is very helpful.
I have read two of your books so far and have loved each one they have blown me away with how you write the characters and how you make the reader feel alive in the story.

Reading Rae’s novel was breathtaking, refreshing, cathartic and healing.
Love’s Crescendo is a love story which delves deep into the readers psyche pulling at one’s memories and experiences in such a way.

Kian and Jessamine’s stories aren’t so dissimilar to our’s their captived audience. The trials and tribulations of life and life experiences whether be it bad experiences or good experiences, feeling pressures and deep grief which is life changing _ in essence parts of Jessamine’s character reminds me of Viktor E Frankl’s Man’s search for meaning - one’s life experiences no matter how tragic - it’s how the mind perceives their situation or adapts to the situations at hand which shows the resilience and power of human beings living a very real human experience.

I cried, I laughed and I loved, oh how I loved - the characters, their growth and their experiences. the storyline, the lyrics _ hidden lessons within a multitude of omitted truths.

And the whole encompassing family unconditional acceptance and love of the true essence of who a person is at their core.

I highly recommend this novel it and its lessons and its characters will long live with me - their lessons will help me heal - reading Rae’s acknowledgements at the end of the story I felt a resonance with her words - I also cried - with how much I felt the words to my core…

The epilogue surprised me but also kind of broke my heart all over again.

But then the lesson within it all healed the ache piecing the broken edges back together again..

I can’t wait to read more about these characters - not sure which characters voice will be the loudest and get Rae to voice their life story..

But goodness gracious me I cannot wait for the journey, the voice and the lessons that will be evoked within Rae’s voicing of their voice ❤️🫠🫠🫠

When I look for a "good read" I am very picky. I need for the story to grab my attention immediately and keep me hooked til the very last word on the very last page. Love's Crescendo by Rae Lloyd delivered! This is my second read by this author. Rae's book "This is what it feels like" is still one of my favorites and I couldn't wait to get my hands on "Love's Crescendo". You can tell the author chooses her characters carefully and that she spends countless hours developing each of their stories. I love how the story is told by both Jessa and Kian's perspectives. This approach helped intertwine the characters and allows the reader to watch them fall deeply in love before they even allow themselves to. If you are looking for spice, Rae delivers that with HEAT! I found myself looking around the room to see if anyone noticed me blushing even when I was the only one in the room.
Rae's magical way with words and storyline helped me to not only get to know the main characters but I could relate to the supporting characters as well. Especially Jessa's brother Myles whom she fought for until it made her so raw that you could feel her every emotion. If you are a picky reader like myself, look no further. This is a story that will break you down to beautiful tears and then build you up back up emotionally. It's a story of forgiveness, struggle for survival, self awareness and most of all LOVE. LOVE that makes you whole again. Keep writing Rae Lloyd because I am hungry for your next masterpiece!

I loved it from the very beginning. All of the characters are relatable in one way or another. I'm sure every family has a Jessa, Kian, and Myles in their life. I know I do. I'm a very visual and emotional reader, so I felt I was actually there in real time during every page. I could feel the strength, the healing power, the rage, the sadness, the love, and the struggle of addiction perfectly displayed in the story.
There were parts where I was like awl that's so sweet, parts where I giggled and laughed and my husband was like what is so funny over there and parts where I cried, dried up and cried again. It ended with me definitely wanting more, wanting more pages to read, more coffee notes, more of Kian kicking butt and unfolding his anger and love for those around him, more music and the band members. It included the perfect amount of spice. During Jessa's grief journey, I could relate to everything she felt. Grief and healing is a work in progress, and it was reassuring that the things we feel and think are valid. It gave me hope for myself, my family, and those in my area struggling with their own addictions. I'd rate this book a 10 if it was an option and highly recommend it. Don't stop writing, Rae. You are talented and hooking us on every book. I look forward to reading books 3,4,5, and 6.

Wow wow wow, where to begin. This book definitely needs more hype. Thank you, Rae Lloyd, for giving us Jessa, Kian & Myles's story.

I don't have a Myles in my life, but I did know of a Myles & what addicts go through every day we will never fully comprehend what it is to struggle with a dr^g addiction.
The ending of Myles POV had me sobbing ohmahlawd I couldn't, so so sad.

The grief that Kian (music man) went through felt reel and my heart broke for him. Felt all his emotions the anger, the lost, the confusion & his new love for coffee girl. It did not hurt how fucking sexy he is 🥵 I mean come on, tattoos, body build for sin, guitarist (not a fan of man bun, but I'll look over it for now)

Loved loved loved the music chapters. I feel everything through music I think that is also why I really loved this book. (made a playlist on #spotify since there weren't any, you are welcome)

Lastly, Jessa Jessa Jessa (coffee girl) ... what a gem of a woman. Strong in every sense, selfless, never giving up, comfortable in her body, thankful for everything even under really bad circumstances and her love for her stepbrother. She needed a bearded guitarist, not to save her but to live with her in her sunshine.

What a beautiful melody of love, loss, and courage to keep going. I could feel this book in my soul the whole way through. Kian is such a grumpy, troubled, mystery at the start and seeing his character open up to sweet, sunny Jessa was such a beautiful story already. Then the SPICE happened. I love that Jessa is so open and up front the whole time and we only get bits of Kian along the way. Like following breadcrumbs into who he is. And then there is Myles. I feel like we all have a Myles in our life. Someone who has always deserved so much more than life gave them. Myles, who we see overcome so much and be such an amazing person through his experience with how harsh life can be. Myles, who chooses to love and hold on, even though it hurts. I laughed, felt joy, experienced hope and had grief wreck me. Rae writes so beautiful that you can’t help being pulled into the world she builds. If you want your heart opened to the beautiful, painful, meaningful crescendo of love, life, and loss, this is the book.

Heartbreaking in all the right ways. I was absolutely blown away. From Kian and Jessa and Myles to the additional supporting characters this book evokes all the emotions. You laugh, you cry, you laugh some more. You get excited, and certainly swoon a bit over how big Kian’s heart is for Jessa and how he treats Myles. And then you laugh some more before your heart gets broken in the most gut wrenching yet beautiful way. The way that this is written is so incredibly captivating and inspiring. Your heart will break for Jessa and Myles in so many different ways throughout the book and it will do the same for Kian but at the end, just like the title, it will all come together in the most beautiful crescendo of love. I felt like I was losing great friends as I read the last page and certainly was left hoping that maybe we’ll get to hear just a little more of their story in the future.

Definitely another great novel from Author, Rae Lloyd! Congratulations and keep them coming!!

I have never cried so hard reading a book. I don't typically read "all the feels" but I recently found this author and wanted to read more of her work.

This story was woven so beautifully that it didn't feel fictional. These characters didn't feel fictional. My heart hurt when they were sad, when they felt broken and were struggling. I found myself smiling when they were happy. I was cheering them on from the sidelines of my couch.

I immediately was pulled in and wanted to know more with every little bread crumb thrown out by the main characters/author. The journey of their love wasn't a straight road. It had bumps and twists, but it was an adventure. I loved going on that adventure no matter how much it hurt sometimes.
Everything I thought would happen, didn't. I was surprised by the unexpected turns that developed throughout their story. I think that's why I liked it so much, the unpredictability.

I joked with my husband between sobs that this was definitely "a 5 star read but seriously, F..., this author" (Although I might alter this sentence with my Amazon review 😆). When I would stop crying and read on, something else would tug at my heart and it was difficult to hold in my tears.

Well done Rae, I can't wait to see what you do next....and if you want a tagline I'm ok with you using mine. "Rae Lloyd, F--k, this author💔 😭❤️‍🩹"

I finished this book with tears in my eyes, but at the same time feeling so grateful. Grateful for this story and for those in my life that mirror some in the book. It was so genuine with real emotions throughout and I'm just so glad that I was able to read it.

Jessa and Kian met while living in similar situations, though for very different reasons. Despite the negativity that life had brought her, Jessa was always optimistic and such a strong person, and I loved that she was able to bring that to Kian. They were perfect for each other and not only that, but I adored how Kian became close with her brother Myles. Myles was such a sweet soul and it hurt my heart that he carried so much pain. I truly came to care for each of these characters and felt like I was going along with them on their journey as I read.

Love's Crescendo is not just about romance, but also life, loss, surviving and persevering. It is an emotional, real and absolutely beautiful book. It's both heartbreaking and healing and I definitely recommend that you read it.

This book is hands down one of my new favorites. I had so many connections in this book. First with Jessa, I know the struggles this book depicted for her. From her all time lows, to her loss, and to finding her love. The connection she has to Kian and the love they share is something rare and genuine. I love how Kian was so down to earth and raw with Jessa. The love they share made me think of my own boyfriend and I. We correlate a lot with them. Then there is Myles... oh Myles... the struggles that he faced everyday. I know those struggles and I know many who still struggle to this day. I cried so hard with the last couple chapters. They were so real and the feelings that came with them. No words would be enough. The way Rae portrayed her characters really made their lives come to life. Thanks Rae for always putting so much into your books!

📚 🎶 Love’s Crescendo by Rae Lloyd REVIEW 🎶 📚

This book hooked me in and didn’t let me go. I had to read it through in one sitting.

Jessa, a homeless barista meets Kian, a busker outside her work. Broken boy meets broken girl and I love a tortured MMC. The journey towards healing and the relationship growth was perfect.

I can’t go into any further detail about the story because I don’t want to spoil it.

The writing is mostly excellent. Chemistry is excellent.
It’s a great read for a slump or when you want something with depth.

I’m a sucker for a romance with music references and this delivered. It’s moving, touching, tender and Kian is a beautiful book boyfriend.

Spice - 3/5

Tropes (some hidden due to spoilers) grumpy x sunshine, healing, grief, homelessness, drug addiction

This book! My goodness, where to start?! I instantly fell in love with Kian and Jessa. This was such a well written and relatable love story. There is a little bit of everything in this book; sunshine, sadness, humor, pain, joy, spice, heartbreak, wit, anger, romance, shock, love, and family. Myles reminds me so much of someone in my own life and Rae built the connection to him just like with each she does with each character. There is so much thought and emotion put into this story. I feel like I know these characters, and to know them is to love them. This author makes the emotions jump off the page into your entire being. I cried, laughed, and felt the raw heat between Kian and Jessa. The only thing I hated about this book was that it was over. It will leave you wanting more!

The author has conveyed so many aspects of human emotion with such depth and clarity. Life, love, death, relationships, addiction, sex, and more are examined in this book. The characters are wonderfully complex and watching their growth and healing both separately and together made this book a pleasure to read. My family has struggled with addiction and the way Rae describes the complexities of the disease from an outside perspective is painstakingly real. I also truly appreciate the way music is intertwined with each character's path, and without giving away information, the final chapter brought me to tears. I think one of my favorite things about this book is the healthy relationship Kian and Jessa are able to cultivate in spite of such unhealthy circumstances. Loved this book!

This is the second book I’ve read by this author, and it absolutely lived up to my expectations. From the very first page, the characters draw you in. They are mysterious, intriguing, and compel you to keep turning the pages to uncover more about them.

The raw emotions conveyed by the characters are so powerful that you can't help but feel them yourself as you read. Themes of pain, love, and healing resonate throughout the book, making it a deeply emotional experience.

I couldn’t put it down. The characters feel incredibly real and relatable, and I found myself wanting to be their friend, comfort them, learn from their journeys, and guide them toward the best decisions. I’m so happy that Jessa and Kian found each other, and I’m equally glad that I discovered this book.

Don’t waste time searching for your next read—this is the one. It will bring you all the emotions you’re looking for: happiness, sadness, hope, and fulfillment.

Oh my, I did not know this was a sizzling hot read before starting it. This is the first book I’ve read by Rae. It brings out so many emotions, from the first appearance of sweet love, to complete and gut wrenching heartbreak, to all the passionate moments. The descriptions of the main characters are so well written you can picture them in front of you like you are watching a movie. You’ll giggle reading Jessa’s sassy but confident comments to her music man, you’ll feel warmth from the sweet coffee cup notes, and you’ll cry not only one time. It’s raw, it’s real and if you’ve ever known anyone struggling with addiction, you’ll recognize so many parts of what Jessa goes through and the emotions she feels.

Just finished reading Rae Lloyd's 2nd book. Rae did it again, as you step into the lives of Jessa, Kien, and Myles. You feel the emotions of all the characters. The loneliness of Jessa having to always be strong and afraid that happiness will slip away.
You feel sadness and hurt of Kien who ran away so he could heal. You feel the struggle with Myles with his addiction and the challenge of having such a traumatic childhood.
You feel the love of a chosen family. This book will make you feel so many emotions that touches so many people's lives. Homelessness and try to function with just the basics in a backpack.
I cried at the end. Myles, your life is an example of every American family. Addiction has touched and destroys so many of our loved ones.

I initially chose this book for 2 reasons: beautiful cover art, & I loved this author’s first book (This is what it feels like). As I started reading, man was I happy with my decision. This book was hauntingly beautiful. The characters are so well defined and rounded. Their lives are so real, as are their issues and their love. I was 3/4 through thinking every review said I would cry & it’s amazing but idk if I’m going to cry. Oh. I cried. 😭🌊 all the tears. 10/10

Rae, you need to label yourself as more than a romance author. You write romance perfectly but both books tackled real life issues in such a raw and real way. Blunt and bold and obvious. Please make that your thing bc it’s NEEDED in this industry. The blend of it all is *chefs kiss*

"Love is a symphony." Rae catches the depths of empathy, emotion, love, and being human. Her charcters jump off the page, where you will be mesmerized by the story. Her bits of humor through out illustrate this crazy thing called life to a t. She touches on topics with strength, compassion, and truth. It is not just a love story, it is much more. I admit breaking in to tears more then a few times, but in a great way remembering one of the most important people in my life. Read her book! It is the best one I have read in years. You will not be disappointed. Can not wait for future books, by this amazing author.
