Since the accident, Jade's world has become so loud.
Something's wrong. The voices of hundreds of souls echo loudly inside her head.
The doctors, the administrators, and even those closest to her are convinced she has a condition. They say she needs to be under the care of the authorities.
Nobody listens to her. Nobody believes her.
She has no choice but to run.
Her once-predictable life is in tatters. All she knows is chaos and fear. They'll catch her soon. She has nowhere to go.
Until she encounters a stranger in her dreams.
Not just any stranger, but an alien. A Kordolian. Silver-and-dark. Honed like a weapon. So obviously dangerous. One of the very beings that threatens the future of the entire human species.
Or so she's been told.
But what if salvation comes in the most unexpected form?
I am so disappointed in these last 2 books, 7 and 8! I have faithfully followed Anna Carven's Dark Planet Warriors series from the beginning, and something changed. In the last review of book 7, I wrote that I wasn't even sure she had written it because the style had changed too.much. There are way too many loose ends! The mysterious brother with a dozen offspring...so now what happens? His brother, the Prince in book 2... where are the twins, the pregnancy me tioned in Ashrael's story? Why does the mercenary group have no children except Abby and Tarak? And what about #2 baby? All the previous books kept one invested in the story and then nothing. I honestly think the author has lost her Mojo and interest in this series which is a real shame. They're no longer fighting those insects( what happened to them did they eradicate them?) There are one or two stories that are good enough to reread such as the one with enki or Sienna but not this one. If this is indeed the last one in this series, she has left much undone and too many loose ends.
I took my time waiting to read this because I didn’t want it to be over yet! Then the book truly had nothing in it that felt like a goodbye for the series so I thought she’d surely decided to add another one. Checked her Facebook and it says series complete. I was really waiting for something massive to happen that would affect the whole group. Even Tarak was predictable in this book. It was a good book, just not good enough to be worthy of capping off this particular series, which is amazing.
It felt too much like Ash and Noali’s story. I would’ve even considered an additional book for one of the previous couples instead of these newbies who can’t possibly feel any of the nostalgic feels that someone who has been in the universe this whole time would feel. I see the promises of future books in the universe, just not this specific series. I guess we will have to hold out hope for tidbits of something deeper or more exciting.
Keep writing, Anna! I will still read every single thing you publish!
One day countdown!!! Can’t wait to read this by one of my favorite authors. 🩷📖
As per usual it was a fabulous read I’m sorry this was supposed to to be the last but can’t wait for what Anna Carven rights next I only hope it is a long series I hope to keep enjoying her writing for many many more years to come
Anna didn’t disappoint!!💯 I’m not surprised this new installment is everything one wishes for in Kordolian males and their human mates. I enjoy the interaction between them all, lives and so in. This storyline was superb with the right amount of excitement, drama and hot sexiness it entails. I cannot wait for the other installment. Hopefully faster than this one arrived. I’ve read all the series and I’m beyond impressed.❤️ It definitely deserve recognition .
**MINOR SPOILERS** This book is part of a plethora of books, novellas, and at least two spin off series related to Dark Planet Warriors. I do not recommend it as a standalone. It is the last book of the second series, DarkStar Mercenaries. There is a novella, Interlude, that fits between the two series that is considered a prequel to the second series. There is also a series after this one. Jade had a concussion while playing sports and it unlocked an ability in her to hear what people are thinking. They are the beginning signs of an impressive talent. Unfortunately, when she tells people she hears voices, they want to put her in a mental ward. This includes her husband. I was not crazy about having a story about a married woman falling in love with someone else, but the rest of the story was good, and her marriage was over at that point. Spoiler…I would have liked resolution of the matter at the end. Dragek, a Korodolian alien, is able to communicate with Jade via her dreams and later in other ways. He is a Silent One and his history is incredibly sad. He was blinded when his talent manifested so that he could develop something called the Second Sight. He was trained and tortured into becoming a warrior. In addition, he was mind controlled into doing despicable acts. In Book 7 of the series, the mistress who was mind controlling Dragek died. He is now free to choose his own path. With the help of Ashrael, another freed Silent One, and Tarak, the leader of the good Kordolians, he is given a choice for his future. Both Jade and Dragek bond with each other. It was interesting and a bit philosophical to read about the abilities of the Silent Ones. Using astral projection/dream walking, he is able to communicate with Jade. She starts to care for him, and it is something he has never experienced before. He was terrific and I enjoyed this story a lot. The pace of the book is fast. The point of view alternates between Jade and Dragek. I look forward to Amun’s story (it is the first story of the new series). Tarak, the leader of the Kordolians and hero of 3 of the books in the prior series as well as a couple short stories/novellas, appears in this book. He continues to be awesome. I think it would be nice for the author to include a reference list in the books. Included could be the names of the different male and female main characters, planets mentioned, aliens mentioned, and maybe a few word translations (siv, etc) that the Kordolians use. I plan to read the next book.
Okay. I really like this series and I didn't want it to end. So I put off reading this book for a while because if I don't read it, it's not over, RIGHT? Yeah. This book was good. Like, really good. It tied up some of those loose ends that needed to be tied up and it set the stage for what I hope is the next series. (I mean, I REALLY hope, because [again] I don't want this to be the last I read of these characters.)
So. The romance part of this book focuses on Dragek and Jade. He's the Silent One who was freed from his mistress and is sort of quietly seething that he has replaced one master (her) with another (Tarak). Only Tarak isn't looking for blind obedience. He and Ash want to give Dragek a chance to live the way he maybe could have lived if he hadn't been tapped as a Silent One as a child. Tarak being Tarak, he also has other reasons for wanting Dragek on their side. And Tarak being Tarak, he's always a few steps ahead of everyone else as he manipulates things to make sure his mate is protected.
Which brings us to Jade. She has a HUGE well of potential power and no idea how to access it. She accidentally calls Dragek to her with all this untutored power and THINGS HAPPEN. Soon she's hanging out on a Kordolian ship, making nice with the aliens who have come to "conquer" Earth, and finding out that the thing the doctors on Earth want to cure her of isn't a condition that needs to be cured at all. In fact, she's pretty darn important in the grand scheme of things.
We have betrayals and trust and allies found in unexpected places. Tarak and his First Division warriors have ample reasons to make sure Earth stays a safe haven and they will burn down the universe to make sure their mates are protected. Things are twisty and complicated and these Kordolians refuse to back down no matter what the tattered remains of the Empire throws at them.
I'm sad to say goodbye to this series, but MAN was it a good ending.
This was and excellent story in the universe of the Kordolian 's.This series has been one that I've loved from the very first book. Each with a deadly fierce alien warrior who only finds his heart with a human female who is intelligent and fierce as well. This was no different Dragek is a Silent One a true assassin one highly skilled but very volatile. He can't believe that Tarek the big bad of all Kordolians was taking a chance on him. Do to his training he learned deep Meditation while practicing he pulled into a human females dreams and his life is never the same. Jade, on the run from her family because they think she is sick and needs treatment. They don't understand that since she had an accident her mind has changed and she can hear peoples thoughts and see into their minds. In one such dream she meets a gorgeous and deadly Kordolian Dragek and he becomes her savior. Their journey takes them deep into the outer reaches of the universe both on the mental and physical level. Jade must learn to harness her power and use it well and Dragek must learn to trust I love for that will be the only thing that will save him. I like the story between them it reminded me two toy of Noa's story. But if this was the last in the series it felt a bit anticlimactic and the ending felt a bit rushed. Otherwise it was a great story. I hope Anna Carven will revisit this universe again because I will miss my Kordolian warriors greatly. Worth reading💖🌟🔥💖🔥🌟💖🔥🌟💖🔥🌟💖🔥🌟💖🔥💖💖🔥💖💖🌟🔥🌟🔥🌟💖🌟!
From the first time I met Abby & Tarak, I was enthralled with Anna Carven's Kordolian universe. I've enjoyed each and every story, some more than others, perhaps. Each has its own flair, its own feel, depth... Each book has been different, too. None of these are cookie-cutter romances. The spinoffs have neither detracted from the original set, nor have they been weaker. Instead, each step becomes a part of the greater story; a part of an overall arc that winds its way almost gently through this series. The Edge of Darkness feels like a culmination of all the stories before it. Tarak is the great chess master, his plans working through even the unexpected finds of Jade and her rescued Silent One. The plot, while slightly convoluted, is not hard to follow. In fact, it is a fabulous ride. I'm always amazed by Anna's ability to weave such wonderful images and feelings. This book showed off that skill in a wonderful way and should not be missed by any Kordolian fan. It is enjoyable on its own or as part of the Darkstar series... but it's even better as a part of the whole. I can't begin to imagine what will happen next, but I will be there. Until then, I think I'm going back to Book One. ☺ 5 very happy little stars -ncv
Jade was an attorney who was in hiding from her husband, family, and doctors who claimed she was psychotic. The Kordolians knew better, and Dragek, a Silent One, an assassin, was sent to rescue her from scientists who wanted her for experiments. This author has a pretty good editor. I can't recall any typos. This was my least favorite book in the series. So much of the story was a cerebral adventure for Jade. How often did Jade have to ask if it was all real? Even most of the spicy scenes were experienced in a dream like state. There was a mention about opals and an alien tool that had opals in it. That was never elaborated on. And what of the humans that they rescued? There's room for more books in the series now. My favorite parts were when they were on earth in Australia at the beginning and end of the story.
Sometimes waiting for your favorite author feels a bit like a kid anticipating summer break, time slows down to a crawl. Once the new book arrived I was loathe to read it too fast wanting it to stretch out for days instead of hours. So it's here, I've read it, and I already want more. I had hoped that we would see the Kordolian wives club in action. I was also hoping that more would be written about Abby's second pregnancy. And what about the others? Any more children? Argh. Sorry Anna, I can't help it. Anyway if this is your first forray into Anna's stories you have a great deal of fun ahead of you reading the other books. I still go back and reread the series fairly frequently, because it is just that good.
I so enjoyed the Darkstar Mercenaries. Each book drew me more and more into the world Craven created. The characters were so relatable. The Kordolians looking for a better life and world. The human mates tempering their war-like and literal thinking. The first series Dark Planet needs to read first to bring everything together in this one. When I realized I was on the last book, I thought there is no way Craven can bring all the threads together to end this in a satisfying manner. I was so incredibly wrong. The plot twist in this book kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. It was so unexpected and satisfying. I will read these series again and hope that at some point Craven will revisit this wonderful and exciting world she has created.
If I see this book as a romance story between Jade and Dragek, then yes, it had a good ending.
But I’ve been immersed in Anna Carven’s universe for over a month now, and honestly, I’m more invested in the politics and how everything was resolved than the romance (I’m sorry!). So, for me, the ending wasn’t satisfying—I have so many questions!
That said, Dragek is very puppy-like, which makes him super different from the other Kordolians. It’s refreshing and really cute.
Okay, onto the next book!! (Please, I need to know more about Amun!!!)
This addition to the Darkstar Mercenaries pushes the boundary between romance and paranormal and does in outer space. The Mating Fever plays an such an important part of this couple's story it almost becomes a character itself. Happily the Fever does not take on a life of its own. Only the epilog failed the entertain me as I found it sachharine sweet, and although suitable to the lovers it fell flat for me. But such is often the fate of an epilog.
I love the series. It is so great to see others talking about gifts that many do not understand. Being a Seer it is great for those to understand that everyone has a purpose. Not everyone understands abilities. I was born with mine and I remember warning people when I had premonition. They would call you all kinds of names. So it is good seeing those connecting even though it is a story. Keep writing I would love to see where this goes.
Jade thinks she is going insane with her new psychic powers so when she meets a sexy Kordolian in her dreams she thinks it is all in her head. Dragek keeps getting drawn into Jade’s dreams as he is a prisoner of Darkstar but when he is given more freedom and learns Jade is in trouble and near-by he promises to help her. And here begins their fate and their role in Tarek’s master plan in this stunning tale.
I’ve been a fan of Ms. Carven for a period, but now I’m a superfan! I have always been fascinated by the “Silent Ones”. Ashrael’s story was impressive, but Dragek and Jade’s story is even more fascinating and spellbinding and draws you in from the first page. Tarak is magnificent as ever, yet enigmatic. All in all, a magnificent addition to the Kordolian Epic! A must read.
Dagrek a captured ‘silent one’ love his arrogance and his entitled behaviour. Jade a divorce lawyer with witty sarcasm after an accident woke up to telepathic abilities. Their meeting is unconventional, their relationship is extraordinary.. the read is actioned filled, out of this world and dimension and yet has its usual mating fever causing the additional friction to the saga. Love love this series ..
Love that creates a lifeline through space and time . Unfathomable to the human psyche . The unerring linkage throughout the universe . All is intertwined and revealed. Great writing that doesn't reveal its direction until the author is ready to reveal it. I can't wait to delve into more of your works and get swept into your incredible universes! Keep them coming !
It was a good read, perhaps felt a bit long in spots. I liked both mcs.
But when he went back in time and tarak wanted to change something all I could think about was didn't we learn anything from the Back to the Future series? You can't make any changes! Luckily it worked out for them. And now Huey Lewis and the News is stuck in my head
Another amazing story in the Kordolian universe. AC has the ability to weave a compelling narrative that pulls you in to the point that you just cannot stop reading until the end. AC is always an automatic click for me. Don’t waste another second you will not be disappointed!😊
This has been one of the Best series i have ever read. Tarak is and will always be one of my favorite characters. This boom had it all. The intrigue, adventure, emotions, I so sad to see it end. Fantastic world building, storylines, just amazing writing! I will definitely be doing a reread in the future. Thank you for the adventure.
I have throughly enjoyed this series of books, all of them have interesting characters and a storyline that weaves together nicely for a finish that wraps things up neatly. I also enjoyed the extra bonus books that are like little sweet treats in between the major events. I hope she will let us visit to see how the characters are fairing.
I strongly suggest you read this whole series. This book is the culmination of the stories. The joining of the elite forces to protect the universe. What an amazing on the edge of your seat. I could not read fast enough and did not want to put the book down.
Five stars are not enough, there should be more! What a wonderful rush it was to take another trip through the Kordolian world. Dragek and Jane's story is so rich and rife with nuances that fire up the imagination, making it impossible to stop reading! Thanks Anna Carved for making my day!
This is a crazy ride with a woman who has recently developed psychic powers. She is running to keep from being committed to a mental hospital for the rest of her life. Her powers are strong and calls to an alien who needs her most. They embark on a twisted ride through time and space to save the human race. Well worth reading
I love Anna Carven's Darkstar romances. I enjoy her character development, & the evolution of her relationships. Once again, a feel-good adventure where, like the characters of Lake Wobegone, "...all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average."
It never ceases to amaze me how well Ms. Carven builds these beautiful stories. Each are individual in their own right, yet so cohesive to the bigger universe she has built. Since I can't have my very own Kordolian, I'm glad I have this world to dwell in vicariously.
A refusal to be broken by years of abuse allows the balm of true acceptance of all you are and lights the path to redemption, passion and love. Can’t wait for the next one.
A great not so final book. I love a redemption story and Dragek is definitely that and add in the romance and sci-fi you have a winner! I just completely savored reading this one.
Not a bad ending to the series at all—but it was a little too mystical for me. I wished events that took place in the epilogue were expanded/more detailed so we got a little more closure with the rest of the cast of characters.
