i think there were two lines that i thought were clever. the rest was junk.

o, and the word count was probably 2-3k? took me maybe 10 mins to read. very large print. words on just every other page. art and design on the other pages.

I found the drawings and the graphics to be very distracting from the words that were beautiful.

Loved the writing but I found the seemingly random pop art to be distracting and quite honestly it took away from the importance of the words. Personally I feel like the writing can stand alone successfully. If there needs to be illustrations please make them relevant to the words or concept in some way. Other then subpar artwork, the book was fantastic.

As much as I love R.M. Drake's words, I was aching for more. Words were too short. The book itself was too short. As a writer and an artist myself, the art was debatable in my optical visual. The words can speak for themselves. More addition to the collection can strengthen the book itself. I'd still recommend it for a short read.

I really like Drakes other work, which is why I bought this sight unseen. It was such a let down. It feels like he just took some decent-ish bits of junk from a notebook or a collection of napkins/post-its he filled up and thought "ugh, I need a book. I'll just use this stuff" and nobody thought to read it before slapping it together with a really bland pop/clip art that added absolutely squat, with not much relation to the "poem"? "Thoughts"? Verbal roadkill more like. And the title... Really? "Spaceship: a Collection of words for the misunderstood" What? What does that have to do with anything in this book?! How about "space idiocy: the overuse of the word love".

No no no. Such a disappointment. I actually feel a bit insulted that he would present this to his readers.

Don't waste your time or money. Go read one of his other collections of poetry. Those are the ones that are worth it.

I purchased this "Collection of Words for the Misunderstood" after falling in love with the many excerpts of R.M. Drake's writing that would come across my social media. I was NOT disappointed by this truly devastating, beautiful publication. Yes, it can be read quickly; yes, half of the book consists of really neat graphic art. However, I personally found that this Collection was compiled incredibly and I loved every second I spent experiencing it, stopping to recuperate from the explosions in my mind and moments in which I identified myself within the words. 5/5 stars, no doubt.

This book claims to be a "collection of words for the misunderstood". It's not wrong. This book is dark, quirky, weird, beautiful... there is hope among it's pages.
It seems like the poet is a bit of a hopeless romantic as well. Always giving himself over to his love for his significant other.

This collection didn't just present you with the words of a hopeless romantic, though. Nay. It gave you strength. It reminded you that you are enough and you can flourish and reach your full potential if only you allow those that are holding you back to let you go.

Her eyes like a battered black sun, departed from the night before. She remembered the suffering the world caused. But it was in her weary soul, a killer's instinct to savagely keep going.

This book tells us not to be ashamed of what we've endured. It has taught us vital lessons and is the reason we are able to push forward with all of our might. Don't let people pity you or shame you for your past. Your past shaped you into who you are right now.

Change was among the stars, the moment she began to love herself.

This was a super refreshing read. I've been in a bit of a slump lately when it comes to reading as we have been crazy busy but then I saw this book in my book case and thought, "Heck, I definitely have time for a poetry book!" I've also been wanting to read Drake's works for a while now and I'm so glad I did. This book was wonderful and I hope you pick it up so it can remind you, as it did me, to stay weird. 🙃

I heard wonderful things about this author. I was excited to finally read something of Robert M. Drake's and I had someone recommend this book. This book exceeded my expectations. I was very impressed at how good this book is. When it finally came in the mail, I couldn't put it down. Its definitely a book I would suggest reading. I can't wait to get another one of his books.
