A high-level guide that would be useful for someone in the early planning stages of considering a move towards a more self-sufficient lifestyle, but you would need to much more research to actually implement most of the ideas in the book.
For instance, the author introduces you to the concept of geothermal heat but does not do a geothermal versus solar use-case scenario, cost comparison, practical land and structure considerations, etc.
Excellent overview of all the different ways to be more sustainable. Enough info to give you insight into what you can investigate further without bogging you down with too many details
Informative and interesting, this is a great book for anyone looking into how to create a home to live on their own, without too much reliance on outside sources. It does seem to assume that you have a decent amount of land in order to do this, but as long as you remember to take what you need at the moment and expand from there, this is a great guide to follow. I will definitely be reading it again.
If you know anything at all about homesteading or self-sufficiency, you know more than this book will tell you. Granted, it does have a semi-detailed set of instructions for processing chickens and/or turkeys, but that's followed by a useless section on butchering hogs. There are many better resources out there... this is the Reader's Digest Condensed version and not worth it.
