A Rowing Boat Disaster Turns Max's Cornish Trip into a Soggy Nightmare! Ex-chef Max Effort, a van-dwelling culinary connoisseur, and his trusty sidekick, Anxious the Jack Russell Terrier, are on a Cornish adventure. Their plan? A leisurely row, sunshine, and a bit of coastal charm. But when they become stranded on a tiny island, their idyllic getaway takes a decidedly sinister turn.
One again, Max finds himself thrust into the middle of a murder mystery when an islander is found dead. Pining for Min waiting for him on the mainland, but unable to escape, Max sets out to solve the crime, but the island and its inhabitants prove to be more challenging than any kitchen nightmare.
As Max races against time to escape the killer, and secretive residents, he discovers that even the most picturesque coastal town can harbour a dark side. Will he make it off the island alive, or will his new role in life as an amateur detective lead him to a grisly end?
Contains a stunning one-pot recipe at the end. Perfect for those on the road, or anyone who wants a great meal without all the washing up!
A journey of freedom, friendship, and murder mystery on the open road.
Have enjoyed all of the books in this series until this one which is so far fetched as to be stupid. Obviously the author had had enough of writing decent books or had a deadline to meet as this one is in a different class to the rest - the bottom or out of this world class! There are so many faults in the logic - read at peril for your sanity
I have read all the books in the series previous to this and enjoyed them. This one seems like a complete anomaly though; the plot and characters who live on the island are very far fetched. The murderer and their motive for killing were also a bit ridiculous and incongruous with the character we had come to know. I actually think this book would have worked better if the twist at the end was that Max had dreamt the whole thing as that would have at least made sense! I much prefer the author's earlier books with a cosy mystery feel as this one was more like a trippy fever dream!

Island Of Death starts off very differently to the usual adventures of Max and Anxious. Quite an intriguing mix of characters in this one, with some favourites as well. Another great read from Tyler Rhodes.
After really enjoying all Max’s previous adventures I found this one to be in a completely different style and, to my mind, less enjoyable. I have already bought the next one and hope it is more in keeping with the previous books and that I will be able to review that one more positively.
The most surreal of Max's adventures, with a diverse set of characters helping him out. But are they all they seem? I don't want to give any spoilers so you will have to read it!
