Take Her to Church

Rate this book
“I’ma put some blame on me, tryna take accountability, but you take on my ability. You’re the death of me and the remedy.” — Brent Faiyaz

Cash and Crips have always been Blaze Banks’ kryptonite. She was raised to be a high-priced ho and measures her value based on her appearance. After an attempt to move with genuine intentions leaves her with damaged faith, she places her heart in a vault and moves to Silk Hills. Her decision to move is as on-brand as her becoming a stripper… Yet falling in love and getting caught in a web of scandal she can’t finesse her way out of, is not.

Brotherhood and bread are two things Church Sharp has always held in high regard. Being the eldest sibling of four and the vice president of The Sons of Eshu, the giant of a man has always been a problem solver. However, after surviving a near-death experience, Church opens a cleaning service that caters to civilians and criminals who can afford him. Despite being months from his thirty-fifth birthday, Church has no plans to add a wife or kids to his legacy. That is until life-altering news motivates him to reconsider the status of his relationship with the wild child he can’t leave alone.

Wedged between their cravings and their fear of enigma, Church and Blaze have always sorted out their differences in the bedroom. Where will they take their dilemmas when their sanctuary is infiltrated?

Lawd - Church was literally perfection, our Superman had one flaw and he still took that on the chin and made it fly! Blaze was a great FMC, I loved how she was about her bag. I sympathized with Blaze because her ex did a number on her but Church literally accepted her flaws and all. I say this often- point me to the strip club and Tucora brought the fire in this one! It was a good dose of humor, ratchet, romance, and drama. I enjoyed this one. Also, it’s on site for Treasure and Razor! 😤

While this wasn’t the worst read, I felt unprepared for it. I expected something urban, flirty, and vibrant, but instead, it was quite depressing. Although Church had redeeming qualities and stood out as the star, our FMC was overwhelmed with issues. Blaze was a mess from the beginning to the end of the book. While I don’t mind an imperfect character, some of the subjects were extremely heavy, and a happy ending alone couldn’t address those challenges. Blaze had personal issues that impacted every aspect of her life. She was insecure and shallow, constantly needing to present herself a certain way. Her character reminded me of Jazmine Sullivan's song "Mascara." Despite having a great personality, Blaze was portrayed as doomed and unhappy, masquerading as a hustler or a girl about her money. When if we being honest she was a prostitute, and would do anything with anyone for the right price. Like she ignored her own instincts and warnings to go to that party for a few bucks. The author didn’t provide her with the opportunity to address her mental hurdles or overcome them meaningfully. The argument with her sister was anticlimactic simply because she already knew she was falling short in the sense that her sister wanted a family, she wanted to just be near her, Blaze even acknowledged her behavior was VERY SIMILAR to her mother. instead of getting real and being vulnerable we got Blaze justifying her lack of connection and closeness by bragging about what she was doing with all the money she earned through less than savory means. Like girl ya sister came back from college and seen you all of 4 times because you know you living foul and you embarrassed but instead of saying that you make it about money. While she did have points the fact is if all you show her is love through monetary contributions WHAT ELSE SHOULD SHE EXPECT? Blaze experienced assault, heartbreak, and exposure, but never took a moment to reflect on the chaos in her life. The casual drug use was also jarring. Although the story ended on a positive note for the characters, I felt the author didn't adequately show Blaze's growth or any progress. The transition from leaving the club to opening the studio was mentioned, but I would have appreciated more insight into that journey. I was expecting a light, entertaining read and ended up feeling quite sad.

Well, we got another Son Of Eshu man to drool over 🤤🥰

Church had the patience of a saint. Dealing with Blaze & her shenanigans lol I’m glad it all came together at the end. They really were each others safe space.

The book was so fast paced. I wish it was longer & I’m hoping we get more of them in the next books.

This was a nice fun and quick read.
I'll admit in the beginning the plot seemed a bit disorganized and I was unsure of where things were going but the more I read, the more I couldn't put it down! Now, Church, that is one good and patient man! Blaze kept getting in her own way and into situations that could've been avoided but none the less she as nobody's punk. Blaze and Church were cute when they finally got it together and I'm glad they got their HEA!

O…K! If it wasn’t known before, let me make a statement CHURCH IS MINE! Oooo weee, this man is everything. Tucora Monique never misses, and although she asked for us to give Blaze grace, my sis honestly didn’t need it! Blaze and Church have been rocking for a minute in the background, so their story was highly anticipated, but babbbby, the way it played out, was not expected. This storyline hit every emotion. The plot twists had me highly upset because I didn’t sense some things, and I’m usually on top of it 😂 Church handled Blaze how she needed to be handled, even when she didn’t know it. The back and forth was minimal, which made this book easier to read and digest. I enjoyed linking back up with The Sons of Eshu and their women, as well as getting to know other characters better. I honestly can’t wait for Durk’s book because I know he’s about to be pure hell and foolish, and as always, I’m here for it! I am one of The Ladies of Eshu and proud of it because us women and the men we love are A1.😝 Tucora Monique earned every star and every flower for this one. I’m sooo ready for the next release!

thrown into mess and chaos

This book was ghetto but I loved it. Blaze was a hoe for real but she was playing games. I love that Blaze was over the top, wore makeup and had lipo. This book is with the times. That being said Blaze was very reckless and invited chaos into her life. The book was extremely fast paced. The MCs were doing a lot of skating around each other and I just felt like something was missing. The reader didn’t get to see the romance build at all. We were just thrown into the part of their story where they actually got together. The whole plot twist kind of threw me off because Church has been to the club, so why wouldn’t he put two and two together? Doing a last dance after all that?! Girl go heal.

The author should have a note that there’s a previous book that should be read before this one. This was my first book from this author and I felt like I was missing something. Fluent in ASL in a couple of weeks? Be for real. I also don’t know why some dialogue was italicized and others weren’t.

Take me to church

I stayed up all night because I couldn’t put it down. Blaze got on my nerves and a few times I wanted to yell, “let that man love you!” The way Tennessee did her was trash, and I would love to see his reaction once he gets out of jail.
I loved how Church showed up for Blaze.
I would highly recommend this book.

Take Her to Church Immediately

I was waiting for this one. I have been intrigued by Church and Blaze since reading Shiloh and Stevie’s story. I was not disappointed even though Blaze gave me the biggest headache throughout most of the book. I wanted to shake her a few times, and sadly it took something traumatic happening to get her thinking clearly. Church def had the patience of a saint because I’m not sure others would have held out that long. The twist at the end was slightly unexpected, but Treasure/Tabitha and Razor’s grimy behinds got what they deserved. However, I do feel that the ending was too abrupt. I wanted to see them really settle into a relationship and for Blaze to tackle the trauma her mom caused, BUT I’ll be okay. I’ll still be waiting on more from the Sons of Esau gang!

This was a good read, but Blaze ain’t have to do all of that.

There’s so much I want to say about Blaze, but it’d be a wasted breath. Just know she ain’t have to do any of it.

Church truly loved her, and all he wanted was to make it official. Blaze kept brushing it off until he gave her an ultimatum. Things started taking twists, and turns from that point on.

I like this author’s books but I’ve come to see a pattern where the ending is being rushed. (I can say she does it seamlessly but I don’t want to see them get together around 95%). I like to see them kiss, make up, and part of their life together. I feel when they finally get together it’s all the way at the end then an epilogues that takes route only a few months after the ending. GIVE ME MORE! Show me their relationship when they are finally committed to one another.

Either way Tucora - I still enjoy your books, and I’m going to keep reading.

Take me to Church

I don’t know where to start. Church and Blaze are two amazing people that compliment each other very well. I love the dynamic of the characters and I love how they were always there for each other. Blaze is unapologetically bold, self-reliant, and emotionally guarded. Raised to equate her worth with her looks and taught to exploit her appeal, she’s a product of her upbringing, but not necessarily a victim of it. Blaze is a survivalist, adept at adapting to her surroundings, and her move to Silk Hills reflects her practical approach to life. However, this pragmatism doesn’t shield her from the vulnerability of love and heartbreak, as seen in her initial attempt to act with genuine intentions, which left her faith shattered.
Blaze’s external confidence masks an internal struggle with trust and self-worth. Her decision to lock her emotions away in a “vault” is emblematic of her fear of vulnerability and rejection. Her transformation into a stripper and her entanglement in scandal reveal a push-and-pull between the roles she’s been assigned and the life she yearns for. Falling in love challenges her sense of control, as it’s something she can’t finesse or manipulate like other aspects of her life.
Blaze’s journey centers on rediscovering her faith—in herself, others, and love—while navigating the tension between her desires and fears. Her relationship with Church represents both a sanctuary and a battlefield, testing whether she can trust someone enough to let them into her emotional fortress.
Church on the other hand is disciplined, protective, and practical, with a strong sense of responsibility. As the eldest sibling and VP of The Sons of Eshu, his leadership extends both to his family and his “brotherhood.” His near-death experience shifted his perspective, leading him to balance his life of crime with a legitimate cleaning service—a pragmatic approach to straddling two worlds.
Church’s primary internal conflict lies in reconciling his sense of duty with his reluctance to embrace emotional vulnerability. His disinterest in building a traditional legacy (marriage, children) clashes with the life-altering news that compels him to reassess his relationship with Blaze. She represents chaos and unpredictability—qualities that simultaneously draw him in and unsettle him.
Church’s development revolves around his ability to embrace vulnerability and open himself up to love and family, even if it threatens the control and order he values. His relationship with Blaze challenges his pragmatism, forcing him to address the emotional complexities he typically avoids.
Blaze and Church are two deeply independent individuals whose shared chemistry thrives on tension and contradiction. Their relationship exists in a space where control and vulnerability collide—Blaze’s guarded heart meeting Church’s calculated practicality. The bedroom acts as their safe haven, a place where they can temporarily escape their emotional walls, but when that sanctuary is compromised, they’re forced to confront their fears and insecurities head-on.
Thematically, their story explores the struggle between self-preservation and intimacy, as well as the ways trauma and survival shape their capacity for love. Ultimately, the question lies in whether they can move past their fears to build something meaningful—or if their inner conflicts will keep them perpetually at odds. While the story dealt with hard topics it also had a great deal of comedic relief. I just love how they roast Durk all the time. Overall this was a beautiful story and I’m looking forward to seeing more of the Eshu men.

Blaze and Church, so much to unpack. Why this woman was so intent on fighting something that was definitely meant to be literally had me in a fit. I had this love/hate relationship with her because she did the most to what, prove a point? It's always a good time though when The Sons of Eshu are around, but Blaze really had my side-eyeing her. Church, I just wanted to hug his neck because he was going through a lot all at once. His hearing, the back and forth between him and Blaze, the plotting "Tabitha" and Razor were doing...it was a lot. Blaze did redeem herself with me when she showed Church she had basically surpassed him in her knowledge of ASL to be able to communicate with him at all times. The ending felt rushed to me, like I needed a little more after the showdown. I also wanted to see Blaze realize that she needed to heal, mentally, physically and emotionally and we didn't see that.

The author asked a few questions at the end so I'll say: No I don't think Blaze gave up on Tennessee too fast because, she held him down only for him to screw over her...BEHIND BARS! As far as women using their looks to their advantage, sometimes it is taken too far. Blaze didn't need to do at least 30-40% of the stuff she did and her immediate reaction after the fight was a little off-putting. Yes, that's how she made her money but she was so much more than that. Blaze had been warned about Razor, but she was determined to show she was her own person and ended up in a bad situation. Church loved that woman hard, and he was willing to accept whatever came to be. All in all, it was a good read. Happy Reading Y'all!💋

Take her to Church

I enjoyed this story from beginning to end. Blaze was something else and allowed her past hurts with her ex husband and how she was raised by her mother to dictate her life. With Tennessee, she was determined to not be like her mother but after being hurt by him while she was down to ride for him, had her rethinking that maybe the way her mother raised her was the way to move with men.

I didn’t like how she seemed to treat Church like an option at times like he wasn’t treating her like a priority at all times and wasn’t trying to change her but encouraged her to elevate herself snd go after her dreams. I loved how Church loved on Blaze and didn’t judge her for being a stripper and only seemed to give her an ultimatum, if you would call it that, because he knew of her dreams for better and to open her piano studio. I liked that Church told Blaze that he would always be there for her, but wouldn’t continue to be in her bed as long as she continued stripping and doing the things she was doing. I don’t really see that as an ultimatum because she had a choice and I think that just pushed her into doing what she knew she needed and wanted to do anyway. I hate that Blaze has to go through such trauma and drama with Treasure and Razor but I think they both got what they deserved in the end. I also loved how the Eshu family is always down to ride for each other no questions asked.

This was definitely a good read and I’m looking forward to seeing who the next book will be about.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

Good storytelling, but I did not like the FMC. Listen, I was completely understanding of how her childhood experiences shaped her and yada yada… but home girl was not deserving of Church.

She played in his face the entire story, made a bad decision that resulted in an even worse act happening to her. Lied to him, had the audacity to want to come for him for moving on, continue playing with him. Then comes back to him even more hurt, and he helps fix it and rescue her. Only to finally do what she should’ve done in the beginning. The entire story everyone was telling her, she wasn’t moving smartly.

She was toxic af and I couldn’t stand her. Church deserved so much more.

Take Her to Church

Listen, these "Hood" gentlemen do it for me every time. In love everything about Church. He was a big man with a BDE in abundance. Church was no nonsense, he said what he meant and meant what he said. At one point, I was wanting him to move on from Blaze. She was playing on his top with her indecisiveness. Granted I understood where she was coming from, but at some point you have to be willing to open your heart again even though you are afraid.

It wasn't until things got real when she thought that Church had moved on, did she get herself together. Although what happened was foul and people had to die, Blaze realize that Church was where she needed to be.

This was a really great story!!

This was fast paced and full of a lot of drama and a couple of plot twists. I didn’t find the FMC, Blaze very likable, and I almost DNF’d at 35% in. She was just really chaotic, and I think she needed to spend some time on someone’s couch. I was rooting for them not to have a happily ever after until she could show a little more character development. She played in his face the whole book. The story felt disjointed at times, and some of the plot points felt rushed through, and overall this was just a struggle for me to get through. I enjoyed the other two books I’ve read in the series but this one didn’t land for me.

Churchhhhhh, wow I love this man REAL BAD!!

Blaze went through so much from her childhood to her early adult years. The author asked if we felt like she gave up on Tennessee too quickly, ABSOLUTELY. TF. NOT!! Cheating is bad enough, but an OUTSIDE CHILD?!?! I’ll flip all these tables over!! Church poured into our girl at every turn, he didn’t slow in his feelings about her at all, he continuously knew what that woman needed and always provided it. Blaze operated off of pure fear & need for control, Church NEVER made her feel like less of a person for being herself. I’m glad they got it together in the end, because that love is too bright to be snuffed out!!

Let the church say amen!

Blaze's path to love was nothing short of rocky. From a trifling ex husband to finding Church and not knowing wha to do with him. Blaze struggled to not follow in her mother's footsteps. Lucky for her she had a good group of people in her life including Church. This couple was the epitome of ride or die. Even outside influences couldn't keep them apart for long. In the end Church's love finally won Blaze over. A new favorite from one of my favorite storytellers. Great job Tucora Monique!

Take Her to Church

I loved the banter between Blaze & Church! Tennessee was a punk! In the beginning you could feel the bond between Church & Blaze but the way her brain was conditioned you could see why she was the way she was! Razor & Treasure were evil & to be honest I had a feeling about Sulley as well! I hate that she had to have the dark cloud around her towards the end. Church was loving but he had moments were I felt he was selfish at the same time Blaze made me mad by how she made him treat her! The two played tug a war with me lol. I loved every moment

Blaze + Chuch

Tucora... ma'am, are you OK? This book was too much but also really good. I laughed, then cried, then laughed again and actually laughed while crying. Every detail of this book had me feeling a way. I wanted to both shake and hug Blaze. She annoyed me, but at the same time, I understood her. I wish I had more of a story on Tennessee. I wish there was more detail about why Treasure hated Blaze. I also want to know why the spaghetti tasted like lemon and why nobody ever told Church not to accept red sauce from a woman.

An exotic dancer because I don’t know if I can say skrippa.. Blaze was about her business okay and maybe she used her pretty privilege to an extent, but you gotta get it how you live. Church was a man who not only cleans messes also takes care of his lady. Blaze will piss you off some parts of the book nevertheless Church gets her together. This wasn’t some cliche story where the mmc dates a dancer whom is repulsed by her occupation . No this mmc is a supportive king who just wants to love her.

I wanna go to Church

Tucora Monique does it again. I started this maybe 7 hours ago and sped through it. I couldn’t focus on anything else. That Blaze was so frustrating because I feel like she spent a lot of time getting in her own way…..Church though….A GOOD MAN. I loved their interactions with each other so much. They had me stressed for a minute but all is well. Looking forward to the next SOE book or whatever else Tucora has for us!

Blaze always believe looks are everything because of her mom, but she took different route and fell in love instead of using him ,but she married him and found out he was trash. In steps Church her bestie brother in law and loved him but had trust issues and yes he was in love with her. All the drama they went through didn't stop the love they have for one another but God was on their side in the end

church is a sanctuary

Perhaps one more f the most ingenious parts of Tucora Monique’s writing is that she allows the characters to become who they are. Church was definitely a sanctuary for Blaze. And Blaze was more than willing to burn it all down for the man she loved. A beautiful story indeed. There is a lot that we can learn from parables. This story, the So s of Eshu, Tucora Monique’s pen are no different.

What a wild ride… the sons of eshu are not disappointing!

The truth is always greater than the space between them. I love that in spite of how the story played out the love for one another is what grounded both Blaze and Church. The love is what pushed them away from each other but ultimately what carried them. It’s a great read and this series just keeps getting better. I love the interconnected stories and watching all the character relationships evolve.

In love with a stripper

These characters gave me the blues! Church wanted Blaze with all her faults and flashy lifestyle but she still pushed him away. The amount of grace Church gave Blaze was exhausting. I wanted him to be happy even if it was with someone else but he stuck on stupid for Blaze. The scar Treasure like on Blaze was an eye opener and another can of worms she was not expecting to open. But I’m happy she got her revenge and happy ending

Church a Bkaze

Loved the story and hope to see more of Church and Blaze! The relationship between Blaze and Church was very challenging, due to Blaze moving cautiously where love is concerned! The family and friends support for both of them was refreshing! The epilogue was perfect! Those that needed to be handled were and respectfully so!

I loved the book butttt

Baby Blaze rocked my nerves this whole book. She was and still is in eyes a whole mess. I never seen any growth in her and Church deserved more. Like girl grow up. That's the only reason I gave it 4 stars and also I just didn't get that ending that pulled it all together. It was so abrupt and I don't know wasn't enough for me
