Apparently Pauline is trying hard to carve out a niche for herself, but she really doesn't understand what it means to be an empath.

I am very interested in what people write in order to help empaths, since I founded the field of empath coaching, starting in 2001. Many empaths are familiar with my trademarked system of Empath Empowerment® and my four books for empaths here on Goodreads.

Pauline grabbed my attention immediately with her title. "Empaths Rule!" doesn't make much sense to me, except as a way to attract milliennial readers and younger, who are familiar with the jokey phrase "Kids Rule!"

Further in the title of this book, Pauline reveals that she doesn't understand the difference between empaths and Highly Sensitive Persons.

I find it extraordinarily clueless, and presumptuous, that Pauline refers to empaths as being on a "spectrum," akin to the spectrum for autistic persons. Is she trying to make a name for herself? That name wouldn't be flattering. Nothing I've seen in this book -- which I sure didn't complete --suggests that Pauline understands what it even means to be an empath.

That's a shame, because Pauline Vincent shows talent as a self-help writer, and can boast persuasive writing among her skills.

RATING

I really dislike giving low ratings to books by my fellow authors. Sadly, I gave this just ONE STAR. It's not as though Pauline has any background in helping empaths, unless you count designing textiles and doing freediving. I wonder, does she just think of us empaths as a convenient market for selling books?

Incidentally, I researched Pauline's score on the Energy Spirituality SENSITIVITY SCALE. As a 1 - a Highly-Highly Literal Person - she couldn't be farther away from being a 20 - an empath.

Good tips for empaths

I already use many of the strategies in this book and they work very well for me. The explanations for why they work were interesting and it was good reinforcement for me. The discussions on intuition were also very insightful.

A very comprehensive guide

Although titled as a beginner’s guide this is a very extensive and comprehensive guide. An enjoyable read this book covers so many aspects of empathy that it feels like a companion guide as I’m sure I’ll use it again in the future.

Fascinating

Being an empath, I've always wanted to know more about it. But I never took the time before. This book was beneficial.
