Ragnarok is near and the Vikings of Midgard have failed to uphold their duty to prevent it. With time running out, the All-Father Odin himself, searches all the worlds for one last warrior who might hold back the destruction threatening Nine Realms and every world created.
Magnus’s death caught the All-Father’s one good eye.
As an Army Ranger, he knew he was placing himself in the line of fire every day, and knew a day could come that cost him his life. What he didn't want was the rest of his team would be wiped out with him, the worst disaster the Rangers had experienced in decades.
Summoned before the All-Father, Magnus is given the grave news and outcome for every realm including his own.
A deal was struck, a bargain made - Be reborn in Midgard, empower himself through mystical runes, and battle Odin's foes, in exchange for his team also getting a second lease on life if Magnus should succeed.
Waking up in a small farming village in Midgard, Magnus must now train and battle, both mundane foes and the creatures out of myths and legends, in both Midgard, and the rest of the Nine Realms.
At 5% I had to stop reading, when Odin comments the MC must have been coached by Odins BROTHER Loki. What? Jesus at least try to get the lore right if you’re going to use a Norse pantheon for your story. This combined with the overblown exposition and somehow highly trained but yet to stupid to function Army Rangers who go into a VIP retrieval mission low on ammo and with only 3 people and when running out of ammunition, don’t even police weapons off their kills??! Oh and of course the MC goes hand to hand versus more than 30 INSURGENTS (wrong word choice btw, try looking up the definition there.) with a tomahawk and a knife against multiple enemies at once armed with machetes because of course the bad guys have ran out of ammunition too. Look if you didn’t want to put the effort in, just don’t bother writing the book at all and don’t waste your readers time. This was crap.

I had no trouble sticking with this story, however I suspect it will be quickly forgotten. There's not enough dragging the reader forward. And few surprises popped up.
2.5 stars. This book was a weird mix of different stories. First, you have an American transported into a new world, having to get acclimated to that new culture. Second, you have Vikings living in a Viking village. Then there's a runes plot, which is very underdeveloped. Runes apparently grant the wearer magic, but that didn't solidify in this novel. The problem that i had with this novel is that with all of that going on, it was still boring. My suspicion is that the story is boring because there's no antagonist. We just follow our protagonist around, and there's no tension with anyone throughout the whole novel. There was a tad bit of tension in a fighting tournament, but that wasn't enough to carry the whole novel unfortunately.
There's a grammatical error in like the first paragraph, but get past that and you'll find a good book. Any other similar book would spend most of its time insisting the MC is a super humble, oblivious-to-women, Mary sue type. Thankfully, this book avoids that tired trope. While the MC definitely is too strong, the reader is constantly reminded that his strength is due to the actions of greater powers and coincidence. But yeah, a good book that makes you care about the characters.
This is an excellent book. And a wonderful return to Norse mythology for me. It reminds me of why I so enjoyed those Thor comics back when I was a kid. But of course, this is more Viking based and at a much slower pace. It deals mostly in the mortal realm with the Norse gods hinting at manipulation into this world. The world building is excellent and the potential of this series is out of this world. I look forward to the next books in the series.
Needed more to make up a book. As is this falls prey to the serial format and not delivering on what many would consider the basics of a book. Instead its like a curtailed story not leaving the reader adequately satiated.
Also has some minor teething errors that got missed in editing early in the book, ones that may put people off the story, but that are not really indicative of the rest of the work.
That said this nearly got a 4/5 rating out of me,.. but as I started reviewing/rating this book and thinking back on things some of its weaknesses as a whole stood out to my mind. 3.5/5
The characters were interesting and dynamic. They also show depth and growth which I enjoy. I like the rune system and found it interesting. I found the resurrection system interesting. The battles were exciting and well written, but sometimes constantly fighting trolls felt repetitive. I'm looking forward to the next realm and new challenges. I like Avitue but sometimes Mangus seems insecure about her and it's annoying.
I liked the movement of the storyline, never becoming stagnant or boring. The character development caught my attention from the very beginning. When he first met the Valkaries, it was an emotional read, especially for me. My only question is if there is a book two, and when is it coming out?
A very good read but slow at times good characters good plot , but as many authors have done leave you hanging until the next installment, as in cliffhanger, at this point authors become bored at their story line and don't continue it, lets hope this does not happen.
This has got to be one of the best books I’ve ever read and will probably ever read.
I can’t wait for the next book. I mean that literally first thing I’m going to do is find the authors patreon (if he has one) and start paying for early chapters.
This is going to be a fantastic series. I certainly hope the author puts their all into this and it doesn’t fizzle out after only a book or two. I could see myself reading this 15 books down the road.
A soldier is reincarnated into magical Viking World and uses his knowledge of weight training techniques to transform villagers into a fighting force? Somewhat better than that description would lead you to believe.
Pure enjoyment... page after page of well written story. Fairly new to this genre but this book has a new spin on the normal progression and who doest love a good Viking book. Highly recommend reading.
I got that from one of my gamer kids. Not sure where he got it from but it seems to fit this stories review in my mind. Great story, world, characters, action, and a feeling that this is just the beginning of a great series! Let's Go!!!
It captures you right from the very start. The anticipation is much more than the yhrill of action. The story telling sets a good pace, leaving you looking for the next page. I really want to read the next parts so bad. Definitely recommend this!
So if you’re read ultimate level one, there are ALOT of similarities. This is kinda ultimate level one rebranded and a different story line. Still a great read if you can get past that. I’m anxiously waiting the next book release.
This story of a special forces dude dying and going to a magical world in a body of a thirteen year old boy was a fantastic read. A total Viking tale of which our guy is a Odin champion.
The Viking based world you didn't know you needed, and now you do . Five solid stars with minor typos and wording issues. I am so ready for the next installment.
Loved it, a great read full of gritty action, humour, magic, monsters and Vikings. Excellent story telling and world building. Can’t wait for the next books.
