In the near future, Tom Waits is a spotter, a mere placeholder in lines, employed by an agency that pays him to retain spots for the wealthy. The job is lonely, monotonous, and exhausting. And The City is dangerous with thieves, drugs, disease, ill-tempered tourists, and constant turf wars between the spotter unions and the scalpers. Still, it’s work, and in an overpopulated world in which artificial intelligence is quickly replacing humans, Tom is happy to have it. He just wants to stay out of trouble, find a way of out his dead-end job, escape his miserable life in the agency dorms, and pay off his debts. Luckily, his life changes one night when Tom becomes a hero after he saves some of his fellow spotters, instantly turning him into a celebrity. Overnight, he becomes a celebrity spotter with a premier agency, lives in a posh apartment, and is surrounded by beautiful women and men, who immediately welcome him to their circle. Unfortunately, the past will not let him go. His former debts and connections with the union catch up to Tom, forcing him into a clash between classes. Ultimately, he must either betray who he was or who he has become.
