VioleNt: Book One (Violet's Tales a Duet and a Half

I was doing so well, my desire to hunt down those who harmed me lay dormant for so long I
thought it was dead. Here it is, rearing its twisted head alive and well, so much stronger than
before.

I’m stronger too, I’ve been training for this. While I was healing, I was fighting,
sharpening my skills, learning more techniques, honing my purpose, becoming violent.

My blades always find their prey. But I wasn’t expecting to find them, Jackson and Austin. I
never imagined anyone would accept a broken, dark soul like mine. We aren’t even sure I can
tolerate the touch of a man, let alone two…

I love books with Poly Representation, so I definitely have nothing but love for Violet and her guys. The spice level was kind of low for me personally, which is fine, especially with Violet's age in mind. I think the romance was cute, and the spice that was there wasn't cringe.

I love Violet's character overall, a ragey FMC on a mission for revenge is always a good time. I personally would have been fine with the book being darker than it was, though. After reading the novella, I felt more attached to her and definitely protective of her. I think reading the novella first in this case is important.

I enjoyed my time with Violet and will be checking out book 2. I received a copy in exchange for my honest review.

Before starting VioleNt - Book One by EN Chanting, I would highly recommend reading the novella Origin of Violet as it gives the reader an in-depth look into Violet's horrific past and the catalyst for the events of this book.

This story started a little slow for me, but it picked up quickly, and I enjoyed the glimpses into Violet's every day life as well as the action and revenge scenes. However, it was not as violent as I expected it to be. That is not to say this is an easy or light read. VioleNt is quite a dark book and contains scenes that some readers will struggle with. Ensure you check the trigger warnings.

Violet is still only seventeen for the majority of this book, and while the author does not shy away from this, at times, she comes across as someone with much more life experience. Even knowing her age, there were times I pictured her as older given how competent she is.

Violet is such a well written character. While she comes across as quite mature for her age, she also has an innocence about her despite what she has been through and you can't help but want her to succeed when she sets out to exact revenge on those that hurt her.

I struggled a little with Violet's relationship with Jackson and Austin. While the age gap may be an issue for some, it was more that from the time they met there was no build up or tension between them and I was waiting for something to tear them apart before they come back together for their happy ending. Aside from the introduction of the boys, we are introduced to some other new characters and see the return of some favourites from Origin of Violet. I loved that Colby played more of a role and that we learnt more about him.

The end of the book is not a cliffhanger but sets up the next book of the duet nicely. With a fierce female main character, growth through tragedy, revenge, torture, murder and some spice, VioleNt is a surprisingly enjoyable read given some of the topics involved.

Violet has lived a life of tragedy. From the abuse she suffered as a child to the loss of her adoptive parents as her life was looking more positive. Now, the darkness is festering, and she needs an outlet for it, so “monsters” beware because she is set on a path of destruction of former abusers and those flying under the police radar. Jackson and Austin are cousins that both work in construction and want more with Violet. After becoming friends and learning about her history they are more invested in making this relationship work and helping her rid the world of filth. However, will their plans work out or will they end in more tragedy, and can she open herself up not to one, but two men that have quickly become important to her as she still struggles to deal with her past abuse?
I was intrigued by the prequel and definitely feel that it should be read prior to this so Violet’s past can be understood. She is a great character and her innocence at times makes you forget all of the suffering that she has endured, but also keeps you rooting for her as she sets out on a path of destruction. Austin and Jackson are exactly the guys that she needs for a “healthy” relationship and her new friends add more dynamics to the story. Some old favorites like Uncle Randy and Colby are back and a new furry friend enters the story too. I enjoyed the relationships that she had with each character and her bluntness and honesty. There were some disturbing scenes that might not appeal to everyone but were fantastic to those of us with a darker sense of judgment. Another book is set for next year and this doesn’t end with a cliffhanger, so a great read and I look forward to seeing how much more Violet and her guys grow and eliminate more human nightmares. I thought I would really enjoy this book wince it is one of my favorite type of tropes where the FMC goes on a murder-y rampage to those who wronged her. This just didn't work for me.

I enjoyed the parts of the book where she was going off and unaliving her abusers, and the sweet revenge was justified. In that way, I think the book definitely delivered. She is also somewhat competent on handling the revenge plot, since she trained herself in combat skills and computer skills. Do I think this is all possible at the age of 17? Eh, that is quite the stretch. But I appreciate it wasn't glossed over, and that she had given herself some formal training.

Where the book fell apart for me is the relationships between the FMC and almost every other character. It just felt very flat in conversation, and I didn't see the tension or connection to the two MMC's. They are in their early twenties and she is 17, which okay, I knew going in, but there was no build-up to the relationship or tension. Her friends and family I also felt that there was lacking depth, even though she clearly has a deep relationship with them. I think it was how the dialogue was written for it to come off as less mature, or less effort.

The book doesn't leave off on a cliff, if you don't want to read the next book, but there is definitely a continuing story which gives an option to read the next one if you are really invested.

I really wanted to love this one, but it just didn't work for me. That said, there is spice and enough murder to have kept me interested to finish the book.

Before reading this book I would recommend reading the Novella 'Origin of Violet' so you fully understand everything that Violet has gone through in her short life so far.

I love that even though Violet has gone through so much trauma in her 17 years she still finds someway to trust people. Her uncle/therapist helps her through so much in her life after the tragedy that happened at the end of 0.5. She tries so hard to be distant with people but when she bumps into two guys in the restaurant she works in and they are persistent to talk to her she gives in and ends up enjoying spending time with them. Things develop between Violet and the two men and she is extremely confused by how she is feeling as she's never felt anything like this before. Violet speaks to her uncle about the new feelings she's feeling for both of the men and he assures her that it is normal and to speak to them.

I know some people might have the issue with her age and their age but they hold off going the full way with her until she turns 18 and is an adult.

Violet also makes it her life mission to get rid of all the monsters in the world who have wronged people. Starting with everyone who had caused harm to herself when she was younger. This is also one of the reasons that she bonds with the two men as their sister was abused by the same person Violet was and they agree to help her with her plan.

I loved how in the first book she just killed without a plan and was constantly thinking about killing people. But in this book she has grown up and plans out her murders and makes sure she has everything she needs and every way to cover her tracks when needed.

I love E. N. Chanting's books and will be looking at other works of hers. this book dealt with past trauma, current trauma, found family, found love and so much more. This book, No series is a must read This book was the perfect way to extend but not end this book. I loved everything with Violet and later her men (and friend). My heart melts for Jackson and Austin they were so perfect for her and really helped heal Violet from her past and never judged her for anything she does or did. And that is just soo hot!! I highly recommend picking it up. (just make sure to read Origin of Violent 1st)

I honestly thought the novel was better than the actual book? i was surprised, it was a bit slower than I would have liked and focused a bit too much on stuff like the school. Also you can never convince me that a 17/18 year old with a 22 & a 23 year old is okay, I am 22 & that's disgusting. I don't know why the author didn't age her up more but that was really weird a 23 year old with a 17 year old is a predator. The novel was so good but this was honestly so boring in comparison, when she was a little child she seemed more twisted but she was so boring in this book. I don't care of her freaking school stuff, I just wanted to see her kill people, the book is called violent yet is wasn't really until the end of the book until something actually happened. I'm also not seeing any chemistry at all between the mcs and find their relationship to lack depth, they didn't even argue once. It feels like the guys are just there to be boyfriends to her, her friends the computer nerd had more depth to him than the boyfriends. I wished it was multiple pov in order to give them more thoughts and depths, because to me they felt very lacking.

First, I'm seriously recommending that you read the prequel before starting this!

Once again, we start with a hugely significant event that changes Violet's life. But this time she's not completly alone and she has a good foundation. In this story, we get to see the duality of Violet's nature, but she's still someone to root for to succeed (in life and her darker endeavors).

It's important to keep in mind that Violet is still technically a minor in this book, but with her life experiences, sometimes she comes across as more adult in her competence. So, yes, there is a youthfulness to the tone and some of the relationships she develops.

What you need to know even after you've checked the trigger warnings is that there's will be some unhinged events that you would only expect from someone older, but the youthfulness and levity that plays against some of the darkest scenes keeps this story from becoming too heavy.

The thing keeping this from 5 starts for me is that I wanted to see more development in her romantic relationships.

I highly recommend reading the prequel before reading this one, so you can get a better understanding of Violet's past and what she had overcome.

This book was wonderful and I loved how we could see more of Violet and how she was living when being emancipated. I enjoyed how uncle Randy was there for her once the accident happened with her parents, even though he was her doctor.

The polyamorous relationship was displayed in a great way. I love how Jackson and Austin were patient with Violet, and let her lead the way in their relationship. They helped to ground her and remind her of her mantra when she got overwhelmed and started to panic. I also enjoyed how much Colby was able to help Violet track down who she needed to.

I felt bad for Violet towards the end of the book and what happened to her. The practicing of parkour helped her to an extent throughout the book. Sawyer was also adorable. The way he sleeps reminds me of how my dog sleeps on me.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the next book in the series to see more of Violet.

Violet's life has been thrown into turmoil and she almost loses herself again. She also decided that she believes that she and Max need to become just friends. She can't seem to find the romantic feelings that should be there.

After some life altering circumstances, Violet moves into an apartment near her college. In a strange incident she meets a young man named Jackson. He visits her at work and they become friends. Jackson also introduces her to his cousin Austin. The three of them find they have a lot in common and quickly become close.

But Violet is having trouble letting go of her past. Will she ever be able to come to grips with everything that happened to her as a child? Will she be able to find love? Only time will tell.

If you read 0.5 and made it to the end, then you will enjoy reading the continuing story in this book.

I definitely recommend reading 0.5 book of this series because you get the in depth version of Violet and her horrifying past.

I loved the action scenes, but they mainly happen towards the end and with a book titled Violent I expected more. She knows how to kick ass and get the vengeance she deserves. Before we got to the action parts, there’s a lot of filler and build up to the anticipated torture and murder.

The relationship between Violet, Jackson, and Austin wasn’t really believable in my opinion. I just don’t see two early twenty-something guys being that caring and supportive towards a seventeen year old. Like, some of the conversations were gag worthy and sappy. There are a few sexual encounters that are steamy and sexy.

The book doesn’t necessarily end with a cliffhanger because you know where she’s going and her plans. It’s a good lead-in to the next book.

I really enjoyed this book! The characters were well written. The banter and relationships were fantastic! The book is full of triggers, so please check the trigger warnings before reading.

Violet has a horrific childhood. After she is adopted, her life improves and then the poor girl looses her adoptive parents in an accident at age 17. She decides it’s time to get revenge on all the monsters that hurt her. Let me tell you, this young woman is a bâdâss!!!

Auz and Jax are construction workers that bump into Violet and a small convenient store. Jax sees her again while she’s waitressing and starts going every day at lunch to build a friendship with her. Then he brings his cousin Auz with for lunch and the three of them become fast friends and the more.

There is a lot of action in this book and fighting to stop monsters in the trâffíckíng of young ones. It’s a good read with a HEA I gave the book 4 Stars and 3 Spice

Incredibly captivating, this is a read that both makes your heart ache and makes you cheer for vigilante justice, dedicated and supportive family and friends, and steamy hot nights. Violet is everything you need in a heroine, strong, calculating, and willing to cross that morally grey line, but her heart of gold and drive for justice however you can get it are the things that endear her to you and have you flipping pages as fast as you can in hopes that she gets the closure she needs, saves a few lives, and finds a happiness and peace that have always been just out of her reach. With a fascinating plot, side characters that are utterly intriguing and everything Violet needs, and a lightness that fabulously balances out the dark and heart destroying, this is an amazing read from start to finish.

I really enjoyed this book. So dark and so twisted. Violent is really not for everyone, but I'm sure if you read this you will take her side of the story. It's really well written and it really keeps you on your toes. In this book you will learn more about Violent and also about the people around her. Her real friends. And although you might sometimes think that she has no emotions or feelings, they are clearly there. But she also has a clear boundary, so to speak, when it comes to bad guys. I am therefore very curious about the sequel. According to me, it will be even more exciting and darker.

This was a great continuation of Violets story. The writing was a bit choppy at times, it worked in the novella as it was a young girl telling her story but I think it could’ve been a bit more polished as Violet got older but it didn’t take too much away from the story. I could still not put it down and finished it really quickly. I love everything about Violet’s personality. Her strength, perseverance, determination, smarts, morals….i could go on. But I especially loved her love interests. They were perfect for her.

The book was action packed and although it dealt with traumatic things it didn’t delve into them which helps for triggers and such.

Great book can’t wait for the next one!

I confess, I’m a huge fan of dark romance, and this novel did not
disappoint! It’s loaded with revenge, gore, and plenty of spice.
Violet is the victim of heavy child abuse. Once she’s old enough she seeks to find those monsters and dispatch them, to take back her control.
Jackson and Austin are sexy
sweethearts with their own baggage weighing them down.
The chemistry between these three is so hot it nearly set the pages on fire.
E.N. Chanting weaves a fabulous story where we find it easy to forgive the darkness in a soul searching to find the light. If you’re a fan of horror romance, definitely give this one a try!

I absolutely loved this book and everything in it. It dealt with past trauma, current trauma, found family, found love and so much more this was a must read. VioleNt:Book One by E.N. Chanting is a book I feel like you should definitely have read the novella that began this series before you jump into this one. Violet's life has been filled with turmoil since you was very young. She is trying to cope with the fallout of that life in the only way she knows how too. Violet is such a strong young lady, and one that I have enjoyed getting to know. The book could be triggering for some, but I would recommend this book to others.

Y’all. This book got me. Now I’m not huge on the why choose books. I enjoy a one man women and vice versa, but it was well written and I enjoyed it. The main theme is dark. Fair warning there is child ab_$3, SA, and more discussed on page and off page. Violet is a straight bada$$! I love me a good 🔪🔪 girl. This poor child has a terrible life but she turns it around 😉 I cannot wait to see what happens next. The book does end on a slight cliffhanger, but not like a “oh screw you author” type of cliffhanger, like a “okay I can wait but I need to know 👀” one. Give it a try!

I read the prequel, Origin of Violet, and was introduced to our MFC. She has had way too much trauma in her life and she’s going to take things into her own hands. She has been training and now she is going to get those who harmed her. I love seeing her strong character as she decides on payback. This part of her is balanced with her new friends Austin and Jackson, giving us a look at her other side as she tries to heal. I am excited to read more with this character. I received an ARC copy from the author and this is my honest review.

Definitely VioleNt

Violet is an incredibly strong and admirable female main character, shaped by the abuse she suffered in her childhood. Fortunately, she was adopted by wonderful parents who provided her with positive role models, as well as two loving and attractive men who accepted her for who she is. This is the first book I've read by E.N. Chanting, but it certainly won't be the last. The author's writing is excellent, striking the perfect balance of suspense, romance, and spice, earning it a well-deserved 5-star rating from me.

Revenge is sweet

Violet had become such a great almost adult. I love that she’s starting her revenge arc. These “men” deserve what is coming to them. Her thought process still cracks me up. I love how her and Uncle Randy are so close and how their relationship works. I want a Colby in my life! And then there’s Jackson and Austin… I mean who doesn’t want good looking, nice men, that are okay with murder. I enjoyed every minute of reading this book.

This book made me angry, sad and Happy loved the relationships and how they developed throughout.

Buckle up on this one! The whirlwind of emotions are rough! Definitely check them trigger cause this book might not be the one for you! My poor Violet, everything she’s been through ugh poor soul. Side note was I the only one who despised her step grandma aka the wicked witch of the west? I’m glad I got to see Violent grow and heal!

I would highly recommend reading the prequel to this story. It helps with background. This book could be 1000 pages and I would devour it if Violet keeps hunting bad guys! She isn't crazy but brilliant! I don't believe in revenge in "real life" (even though I love Violets kind of revenge) but in a book I adore it and I love Violet and her guys! Love Sawyer too!

VioleNt fun

Just finished the second book in Violet’s story and it didn’t disappoint. I loved following her along on her crusade to rid the world of the worst kinds of monsters.

The story had parts that were a bit more spicy than I’m used to, but I really enjoyed this second chapter in her story of Vigilante revenge. Now on to the next part!
