Sarah O'Rourke is the alter ego of two best friends who have taken their passion for romantic fiction and erotica to the publishing world. Born and raised in the southern United States, one lives near Louisville, KY, while the other resides in Atlanta, Georgia. Neither is ever very far from a tall glass of sweet iced tea, their dog-eared copies of Gone With the Wind, or their Steel Magnolias DVDs!
Formerly an accountant and a chemist, they are now overworked, stay-at-home moms who adore their children, their husbands...and writing about love in every way possible!
This is my first book by this author duo but it won't be my last. I really enjoyed this story because it showed that if you really work hard and truly love someone you can always make it work if both people never give up. Cain really was a true hero and my heart broke for him. I really loved this cast of characters. Faith had that sassy southern bell attitude and it gave me a Steel Magnolia vibe especially with their crazy aunt. I also loved the addition of faith which seems to be a bad word in romance lately. Like you can't love God and have a steamy book too. Yea who created sex? Lol. It was refreshing , romantic, funny and Sexy. If I could have changed one thing it would have been to shorten some of the love scenes as they became repetitive and took away from the emotion of the love making. I like sexy emotional scenes and it started that way but just well a little shorter and it would have been perfect.
I'll definitely be grabbing the rest of this series especially since I'm so ready for Zeke and Honor. Wow that's a real hero.
Dr. Cain Turner was engaged to the love of his life Faith McKinnon but his time in Afghanistan made him realize he needed to let her go. Faith doesn't know that he has returned home and has been devastated since he sent her a Dead John letter. Now with the help of family Faith and Cain are being pushed together, can Cain regain Faith's trust and build a future?
Really good story, you get why Cain does what he does but you also want to smack him. I love these sisters, each of their stories brings a few tears. If you have not picked up this series definitely one to put on your radar.
"Cains Salvation" tells the story of Cain and Faith. Cain is a doctor who has worked deployed in Afghanistan- something which leaves him traumatized with scars and PTSD. This makes him lose confidence and find himself worthless for Faith- who's the love of his life. He then breaks up with her via letter and the story moves 6 months forward. Faith is left utterly desolate and heartbroken when her soulmate breaks up with her- and decides to finally try to move on instead of spending her tears on him. At the same time, her sister discovers Cain is back in town and in drunken stupor, The story is then about how their families strive for them to get together and they fall back in each other's arms. Things I liked - the family and friends. It was great to meet all the sisters and discover their quirks and characters. Also great to meet Abel and Zeke. Things I did not like - Lack of grovel - How they got back together so fast. I wanted more angst and feels. Overall, a good read. Safe 3/5
Cain and Faith fell in love and became engaged before Cain left to go to war since he was a doctor. After months of being there and seeing all his friends and patients die, he sent Faith a letter telling her the engagement is off and she needs to move on with her life. Six months later, he's back in town, scarred and completely different from the man who first left. Faith wants nothing to do with him because he devastated her with that letter but her younger sister hires him as a bouncer at the bar she and her sisters own so he's in her face every day.
The constant back and forth fighting got old real fast after that....if they had just sat down and talked it would have all been resolved but it had to take their siblings locking them in a room for the night to get them to get to that point. Mind you, before that, it didn't stop them from jumping each other in the office for some smexytimes but that didn't fix them before the meddling siblings got involved.
Review of Cain’s Salvation by Sarah O’Rourke I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to read Cain’s Redemption prior to its release and I have to say it is the best yet by Sarah O’Rourke. Everything this author puts out exceeds my expectations. Cain’s Salvation is slightly different than the erotic novella’s that the author has previously put out in that it focuses more on the storyline and less on the smut. (Now please do not think that this book isn’t HOT because it is burn your biscuits hot, hot, HOT!)
The characters are so well developed I swear I actually became friends with the McKinnon sisters. These girls are fiercely protective of each other and their personalities are so varied, each one brings something completely different to the story. I love that the author was able to create so many layers and facets making it easy to visualize and ‘hear’ the voices of the characters. While you get to know a bit about Patience, Harmony, and Honor the story is about Faith.
Faith has been in love with Cain since she was just a girl and Cain loved her even before it was appropriate. (No, nothing happens that will make you say eww.) Finally, satisfied that Faith is serious about her commitment Cain gives into his heart. (Swoon) Cain is in the Reserves and gets called for active duty deployment. As a doctor he is sent to work in a military hospital in Afghanistan. Halfway through his tour, he feels sullied and unworthy of Faith, one Dear Jane letter later Faith is brokenhearted and confused.
Cain’s Salvation is a story of broken hearts, forgiveness, and unending love. I laughed, cried, giggled, cried, swooned, panted, and fell in love with each and every character. I cannot wait to read the rest of the stories in this series. It’s one of those that I know each story is going to wreck me just a little, but I will willing throw myself into the carnage because the ending is just that sweet. Complete and total FIVE stars for Sarah O’Rourke and I have run out of wet panties to throw at her books so she is getting FIVE lacy bras. Dr. Cain Turner's is in Afghanistan, suffering through all sorts of mental and physical anguish and in the midst of that, he loses all hope of ever being a normal man again. He thinks that he has nothing to offer his love, Faith, so he breaks it off with her...in a letter. Faith receives that letter and is understandably devastated. How can these two find their love and learn to trust again?
The Good
The chemistry is strong between Cain and Faith, and the love scenes are excellent. Their issues are believable something that happens every day and made me connect to them. Cain and Faith’s trust issues and the reasons for their breakup are explored thoroughly in a way drew me in and even when I was frustrated at their inability to see past their own pain, I wanted them to figure it out and get together. There’s the beginnings of a mystery involving Faith’s baby sister, Honor, which I can see building until her book inevitably comes out. This is a major event that is traumatic and a possible trigger for some folks, even if it’s only alluded to for the most part. The writing’s solid and the pacing worked for me.
The Just Ok Now this is strange coming from me, but I did think there was alot of sex for the length of the story. Very sexy so I didn’t mind, but I also wouldn’t have minded seeing that time devoted to exploring Cain’s PTSD issues in a more meaningful way. I felt that Faith took that letter at face value and I would have liked to have seen her make some attempt to fight for this love, instead of just giving up.
The Bottom Line A solid start to a new series and a (new to me) author made this a great pickup. It’s an angsty, sexy, genuine story that made me eager to read the next book.
I loved this story. It was quick, sweet, very sexy....oh yes, and the love was just so beautiful between Faith and Cain.
The writing was fantastic, the storyline was moving and the passion and love was incredible! I cannot wait to read about all of the secondary characters in thew future for sure!!!!!!
This was an addictive story where you get introduced to four sisters who have had more devastation in their lives than anyone should. This story takes us on Faith and Cains story. You will not be able to put it down.
I received this book for an honest review. I went into this as a military wife and really really wanted to like it. It wasn't horrible but it isn't a book I would go around bragging about. The story is about Faith and Cain. Cain is a doctor and an Army reservist and he gets called to go on a deployment to Afghanistan. Before leaving Cain proposes to his love Faith and she starts the wait for him.
While in the desert Cain loses many soldiers and becomes depressed and ultimately ends things with Faith through a letter. Faith is devastated but tries to get through her days. When Abel comes in and tells Faiths sister Honor that Cain is home he asks for a favor of her that makes her face Cain.
Honor offers Cain a job as a bouncer in their bar and then she has to tell Faith. Cain starts working there. There is of course tension, they end up fucking, then pretended they didn't. Then get locked in a cooler together as a plan from Faiths other sisters and then they practically spill their guts, fuck and make up.
My problem with the story is it's kind of Cheesy. I don't like the names of the sisters… Faith, Honor, Patients and Harmony. YOU as the reader can hardly keep them straight and even the AUTHOR has mistakes in the book saying one sister said something when that sister wasn't even present in the room and a few other name mistakes.
I also don't like how every single time (or damn near it) one character talks to the other they constantly say the name of the person they're talking to. Example- "Do you think I feel any differently about you, Cain?" "You deserved to be saved, Honor. I don't" Then there is a few sentences in between then… "Everyone deserves to be saved, Cain." Then surprisingly Cain replies without saying her name but the next sentence is…. "You have scars, Cain."
It DROVE ME INSANE. I don't know anyone who speaks like that. Maybe it's a southern thing or something but I have never heard anyone say the other persons name while speaking SO MUCH.
I also found the sex scenes drawn out and I skipped pages because they were boring.
I really hate to be a Debbie Downer and I would be lying if I said that I didn't wonder about the characters and what is going to happen while I wasn't reading the book. I just wasn't that into it.
Cain's Salvation offered a different type of love story that strongly deviated from the "rich man with a dark side meets sweet little lady" plot that has become the norm these days.
Cain Turner is a physician who was also a soldier. Active duty in Afghanistan was NOT what he had in mind when he proposed to his sweetheart, Faith McKinnon. As with many men who endure a stent at war, Cain changes. After witnessing many deaths and experiencing the tragedies of war firsthand, he grows to believe that he is no longer suited to belong to Faith so he sends that fateful letter which ends their engagement.
Faith McKinnon is one firecracker blonde of four sisters. Her and her three sisters own and manage a café/bar in their small town and their lives revolve around each other, their business, and the daughter of the eldest sister. My heart ached for Faith as she went on with her life after receiving Cain's letter.
But who doesn't love a surprise??? Especially when that surprise is a hunky, broken soldier who is home from war and needing to be mended!! After being home for a month and under everyone's radar, Faith's youngest sister Honor catches wind of Cain's return. Honor is the voice of reason of the four sisters and sets a plan into motion to see the two love birds together again.
From the first jaw-dropping, fire-spitting reunion glance to their final resolution, Faith and Cain will have you begging for a love like theirs. Devotion should be his middle name!!!! The only issue that I found with this book is some of the descriptive language. In my opinion there were too many food analogies when things started heating up. The sex scenes are steamy as hell but I would have enjoyed them even more if they hadn't made me hungry!! But overall, I really enjoyed Cain's Salvation and would love to see a sequel!!

This series is about 4 sisters who live in a small town in Paradise, Tennessee. The sisters are extremely close and work together in the family restaurant/bar that their parents owned and they inherited when they died. Each sister has had something traumatic in one form or another happen to them that still haunts them. It takes their faith and the men that are in their lives to help them overcome their tragedies.
First up is Faith McKinnon who has only been in love with one man her whole life. They get engaged before he goes off to do a tour in Afghanistan as a doctor. The horrors that he see's over there and the amount of death he has to deal with along with almost losing his own life in an ambush makes his lose his faith in himself and humanity and he sends a Dear Jane letter to Faith telling her to forget him and move on with her life. This devastates Faith and it takes months for her to pull herself together.
Cain Turner is scared both on the outside and the inside from the IED that took out all of his team. He come home to Paradise to his fathers farm but doesn't let anyone know other than his father and brother that he is back in town. His twin brother who is tired of watching Cain no nothing but drink his problems away enlist Faith's sister Honor to go and talk some sense into him as she herself had survived a horrific childhood ordeal that at the time had left her not wanting to live either. She manages to convince him to come be a bouncer at their bar and to try and mend things with Faith. As you can imagine Faith is furious at Cain for what he did and he has a lot of groveling to do to try and win back the only woman he's ever loved.
By the end of the book we gotten to know each of the sisters and know some of what their demons are. One thing is for sure the sisters love each other deeply and would do anything for the other.
Even though some tough subjects are dealt with and the sex is pretty explicit there is strong theme of spirituality that runs through each of the books.
3.5-4 STAR RATING- I saw this book on GR and I knew it featured a wounded warrior and several of my friends had rated it four stars or higher...and that's pretty much all I needed to grab this one up when I saw I could borrow it through Amazon's Kindle Unlimited program.
While I absolutely love a wounded warrior story, I hadn't read any of the reviews so I was a bit surprised when I actually started reading the book. It was a bit fluffier at times than I was expecting and had a much higher steam level as well. While Cain's Salvation definitely isn't erotica, some of the steamier parts could be classified as erotic in nature. Nothing over the top but just a bit more explicit than I was expecting, which for me, is never a problem =)
Cain's Salvation works well to introduce the cast of characters that will be featured in this series and future books. I was surprised to see Harmony's story is next (Hard as Stone). I was hoping it would be Honor's story.
Overall, I'm on the fence about rating this a 3.5 or a 4.0. I liked it but it wasn't what I was expecting. It was an enjoyable read though and I have already downloaded the second book (also available to borrow through Amazon's Kindle Unlimited) and will be reading that one soon. I recommend this to readers that enjoy romances that feature small towns, stories featuring siblings, and a healthy dose of steam and light humor.

Dr Cain Turner is doctor in a war zone taking care of solders seeing death and unimaginable destruction daily. He’s dealings with self-doubt and unbelievable guilt from not being about to save everyone. Cain decides he’s worthless and it’s best to distance himself from his family back home in Paradise and also writes his fiance, telling her to move on with her life and find someone better. The biggest mistake of Cain’s life was sending that letter but he realizes that too late. Faith McKinnon is no pushover. She really could have went the rest of her life without seeing her ex fiance Cain every again but he’s back in town and her pushy sisters think she needs to at least hear Cain’s side of things. If Cain thinks he’s just going to walk back into her life 6 months after breaking up with her in a letter. Oh hell no. Cain’s Salvation is a look into the lives of the McKinnon sisters after real struggles, trials and trauma take place and how well they all recover. Book 1 showing Cain’s return from war and Faith after suffering the heartbreak from the man she’s loved all her life. There’s also a sneak peek into Faith’s sister Honor trauma and their sister Harmony’s headache. I feel a real connection with these small town characters and I’m looking forward to the sister Patience’s story…she’s a wild one. And Honor is going to be taken way out of her comfort zone.
“Hearing Honor curse was sort of like watching Santa smoke weed. It was just wrong.”
“He’d lost so much weight that not even the beer he drank like it was the fifth food group had made a dent.”
“He guessed she was plotting fifty ways to kill him and make it look like an accident. That’s how this sister worked. She was vengeful. Oh, she was syrupy sweet on the outside, but Patience had a core of pure fire.”
“Because I swear by everything that I hold dear, there’s gonna be either a wedding or a funeral. Since I’m a generous Christian woman, I’ll let you decide which one you want.”
My Review:
An excellent second chance romance that is smokin’ hot, contemporary, and right on point with the current difficulties our returning troops are encountering with PTSD. I have had this book on my reader for months and could kick myself for not getting to it sooner. The book is well written, steamy, and poignant. I could not put it down and finished it in a day. Having grown up in a small town, these people seemed familiar and real to me. And while I could do without having her meddlesome and bossy sisters in my life, I do wish I had an Auntie Orla, she sounds like fun.
A gifted copy was provided by the author / publisher for an honest review.
Oh my lord what a beautiful, brilliant story. Get ready for tears as there is plenty with this one. It also really makes you think about how this story could almost be an autobiography. It makes you realise that the subject of the story happens every day. I did enjoy this immensely, the hot scenes are just that, extremely hot, the characters are real and enjoyable. They all have an amazing connection with each other throughout the book but poor Cain and Faith my heart broke for them. Cain is basically a very broken man after being deployed for several months in Afghanistan and Faith is the girl he left behind. The author has a way of writing that makes you want to devour the story from the very first page, and leave you reeling at the last page. I will gladly recommend this book to everyone I know and also give it 4 stars.
"I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads."
This is a hot, yet sweet story of redemption following the horrors of war. The story is fast paced, the characters are well drawn, and I would hope that the other sisters get their stories too. After all there were plenty of hints!
I will definitely be reading more by this author - she tells a good story. Thank you very much Ms O'Rourke.
A quick but great start to the series and a new author for me. Loved the idea of the story, I am such a sucker for 2nd chance romances and this one fitted the bill
I am definitely looking forward to reading the rest of this series. I really enjoyed meeting the McKinnon Sisters.
For me, Cain’s Salvation was one of those books I could not put down. What drew me to into this book, was how the writer's vivid descriptions brought the book to life for me. From the very first page, I was engrossed in their story of love, and the journey that the two and their families take to bring them back together.
After returning from deployment, Cain who served as a doctor is dealing with PTSD. This once confident man, who loved Faith with all his heart, is left feeling worthless, broken and overwhelmed. He ends his relationship with Faith via a letter, hoping that he is giving her the chance to move on without his demons holding her back or causing her pain. Heartbroken, Faith tries to move on but, the truth is, the heart wants what it wants, tears and all.
Cain's Salvation is a story filled with soul-deep love, insecurities and the challenges they have to overcome to find their HEA. There is romance, humor but there are also a few steamier scenes that most definitely had my cheeks a bit pink.
Most importantly though, this book is one I most definitely recommend.
This is Cain and Faith’s book. These two were definitely soul mates for sure. They were engaged and then he got sent off to Afghanistan to be a doctor in the service. When he was gone, he was so emotionally devastated from seeing the war, that he called off their engagement....via letter. This did not, I repeat, did not go over well with Faith. Can’t say that I blame her, luckily he is one hell of a groveler., but she was so heartbroken...like I said soulmates. Cain gets back and hides out from everyone, except his family. Apparently the youngest McKinnon sister, Honor, is the go to for the level head and a mature conversations. This book takes you through their reconciliation, with a, uh bit of intervention.
This was a safe read, even during their separation. Sweet soulmates and a swoon worthy and faithful male that can grovel with the best of them. Older man, younger woman. Pushing away, a little om drama, but no ow drama. These two had enough heat to burn up my kindle, delicious. Great supporting cast, her Aunt Orla slays me. Great book and story, with an hfn.
Who is Dr. Cain Turner? What kind of Doctor is he? Where is he? Where is he from? Who is Faith McKinnon? Who is his brother? Where are their parents? Who are Faith, Harmony, Honor, and Patience? What type of women are they? Who is Zeke? I have to say, my favorite character of all in this book is definitely Aunt Orla. ESPECIALLY near the end of the book. That was too funny. This was a seriously heartbreaking, funny, romantic, second-chance book if ever I have read one. I could not put it down once I started reading it. You'll have to read it to see why.
RECEIVED THIS BOOK AS A GIFT FOR A FAIR/HONEST REVIEW and REVIEWER FOR Bloggin' With M. Brennan.
Faith is one of 4 sisters who live in Paradise, Tennessee. She had life figured out, she and her sisters run a family business, she is engaged and in love with the man she considers her soul mate. Cain is doctor and gets called to do a tour in Afghanistan. He knows that the love he and Faith have is forever, so 18 will no wait at all. This book is a test jerker, reading about why Cain wrote the letter (made me cry). I think the author did a good job describing some of the hardships soldiers face when they are overseas. Also when they get home. The book was well written with great charaters.
This was a great read second chance read where Cain broke up with Faith thinking he was doing both of them a favor but well that didn't work out well for either of them and now he is a broken man in more ways than one and if anyone can help him Faith can. There is a lot of emotions you through while reading this book not just with what Cain went through while in Afghanistan but also with both Faith and him and the rest of their Family and friends. This was not just a great read about Faith and Cain but also fabulous world building for the rest of the series.
I generally steer clear of military romance, given the whole military spouse thing; but, it turns out I enjoyed this one. Yes, it has the PTSD element that is a little trite, but I liked the relationship between the main character, Cain and Faith, as well as their relationships with their families. My knock on it? I felt as though there were gaps in the story with info that I wasn’t privy to, leaving hard for me to connect with the characters. The next? The sex scenes were cheesy. I’ll just leave it at that. Good read, it just could have been better.
Cain and Faith are engaged when he gets called to duty in Afghanistan. He writes her a Dear Jane letter and guts her world. When he returns he wants her back! It takes a whole town to help. Will they ever be able to get past what was done? Read the book! I'm not telling you what happens. lol I had quite a few chuckles in here. Sarah O'Rourke is an amazing story teller! Cant wait to read what she writes next!
The first in the Paradise series this was about Faith and Cain. They have been together for awhile. But when he, a doctor, went to Iraq he changed. He broke up with her through a letter. And that left them both devastated. When he gets back will they get their lives together? Or will their own families intervene? What happened? I'm glad to get this series. I don't write long reviews just know I enjoyed reading this book.
Well that was a mess The book seemed like it was written by two very different people. One person brought a Christian feel and the other a hardcore gritty porn vibe. The mix gave the book a disjointed/fragmented feel. I would have much preferred this book to have stuck with the wholesome point of view (the writing in those segments was much better).
