Inspired by actual events, when a cheeky orange and white-striped cat falls from the ceiling of an abandoned building in Liberia, West Africa, he’s rescued and named Ramsay after his owner’s favorite chef.
With a life ahead he could have never imagined, Ramsay the Cat moves from Africa to Hollywood, California, meets Thornton from 'The Call of the Wild' at a Beverly Hills restaurant, becomes a surfing cat sensation on Instagram, and even starts a family. Yet, despite all the adventure, there’s always one thing on Ramsay’s mind: What's next on the menu?
Ramsay the Cat is a fun and heartwarming middle-grade adventure that kids (and adults!) can enjoy. The story blends humor, relatable characters, and light-hearted mischief in a way that kept me smiling throughout, and the pacing made it easy to read in one sitting. While a few plot moments felt familiar or predictable, the genuine charm and lovable personality of Ramsay make this book a delightful choice for young readers, especially those who enjoy animal adventures with thoughtful life lessons. Overall, it’s a solid, entertaining read with plenty of laughs and heart.
I didn’t expect to enjoy this book as much as I did. Ramsay the Cat is one of those quiet surprises that sneaks up on you — funny, warm, and full of little moments that stay in your head. Ramsay feels so real you almost forget he’s a character; his curiosity, his stubbornness, and the way he looks at people are just spot on.
The writing has an easy rhythm to it, nothing forced, and the story moves along beautifully — simple, but not shallow. It’s the kind of book that leaves you smiling without really knowing why. Perfect for cat lovers, families, or anyone who just needs something gentle and hopeful right now.
This story had so much involved over 35chapters where the story is divided well for bite sized chapters and a good reference tool to go back through especially for writing first person perspective. So much involved in this story that I could see it being inspiring for young readers and authors to inspire writing their early books and using this as a guide to tell their own stories. Illustrations added to the book as well and it was most appreciated to see. I am looking forward to seeing more books from this author and reviewing them on my second YouTube channel Hypersanity Books 4-Kids. Though this is a book that is a perfect family book.
Fantastic story writing. I am quite convinced this is an accurate presentation of how my cats have thought and acted. The story itself is beautiful and heartwarming across the board. It reminded me that when I was a child we had a family dog named Gus who ended up going across the world to stay with a family in Germany for a year- what if he could talk, what story would he have had to share. I am a cat lover at heart , a champion of the runts of a little by nature and shared experience. I really took my time with this story because every page brought me moments of delight, curiosity, wonder, and laughter. I applaud Wolf Norris for bringing the story of Ramsay the Cat into our world. So worth reading.
Ramsay the Cat is such a delightful read. From the moment the tiny kitten tumbles into Smarty’s arms in West Africa, his journey is filled with charm, humor, and heart. Told from Ramsay’s own perspective, the story captures his mischievous antics, foodie cravings, and surprising adventures. I loved how the book blended laugh out loud moments with tender, heartfelt ones that make you root for this cheeky little cat. Perfect for kids, families, and animal lovers, it is the kind of feel good story that leaves you smiling long after you finish.
Cute and almost believable story told mostly from the cat Ramsay’s perspective. Based on a real cat rescue story, it is elaborated here by a very clever, curious and trouble-causing cat. Portrays a small amount of culture difference between Liberia Africa and L.A. California. Ramsay is always hungry and on the lookout for food and for the next new experience. Though I wondered at times how the cat talking could know what certain human things were and not others, it worked for the purpose of presenting animal thoughts regarding a human world. It is simply written but contains enough adult content that it doesn’t feel “childish”. I would recommend it especially for the curious and animal loving young one.
This is a story about an abandoned cat told from the cat’s point of view. The cat is adopted by a nice family and gets involved in mischief and adventure. The story, I believe, is best suited for young readers (8 and younger) or possibly a bedtime story (with the addition of more pictures).
Love this book! The story starts in Africa and he travels the world and ends up in his forever home in Los Angeles. Full of funny antics this book will touch the heart of any cat lover.
I adored reading this book about Ramsey the cat; who was a delightful, frisky, adventurous and naughty feline. He fell all over, knocked things down and did what he wanted to do, but had the charm to always be forgiven. I found this particular phrase amusing; “If peeing under a tree means I get milk, these trees are going to be seeing a lot of me.” Author gave Ramsey a voice that made this book particularly admirable.
"Ramsay the Cat by Wolf Norris narrates the exciting exploits of Ramsay, a fearless, orange-striped cat. Ramsay, an adorable troublemaker, is first discovered by his owner, Smarty, in Liberia. Smarty and his wife (Jenn) own a restaurant there. They adopt Ramsay and make him part of their family. Ramsay is constantly searching for new adventures to go on. He discovers his passion for milk, chicken, attention, and affection while in the loving care of Smarty, Jenn, and Betty (Jenn's mom). Even when the family moves to Hollywood, California, his escapades continue unabated. Ramsay's little family unit grows with the addition of Mitzi (his mate) and Fluffy (his daughter). He even becomes an Instagram sensation as a surfing cat. Despite his many brushes with danger, Ramsay teaches us that adventure is the spice of life.
Ramsay the Cat is a fun and engaging read. It is filled with humor, action, drama, and angst as Ramsay navigates from one stunt to the next. I laughed out loud several times while reading about Ramsay's many hijinks. I think Wolf Norris authentically portrays the lifestyle of an audacious cat through Ramsay's various escapades. The author introduces Ramsay in exciting situations, described to grasp the reader's attention. This writing style proves to be very effective. The black-and-white illustrations of Ramsay on his exploits added a spark of visual appeal to the storyline. Once I started reading this book, I could not put it down. It is that addictive! This incredible book is 'purrfect' for young readers, animal lovers, and readers looking for an endearing story and a quick laugh."
Ramsay the Cat by Wolf Norris is a charming tale that brings to life the adventures of Ramsay, a spirited and curious cat who navigates his world with a delightful blend of innocence and wit. Based on the author’s experiences in Liberia, the story follows Ramsay from humble beginnings in a cold, dimly lit room to his eventual life in Hollywood. Along the way, Ramsay forms endearing relationships with various characters, including the quirky Jenn and Smarty, their compassionate friend George, and even a gecko named Gordon.
Wolf Norris does a fantastic job of narrating the world through Ramsay's eyes, capturing his childlike wonder and hilarious misconceptions about human behavior and language. The narrative is filled with heartwarming moments, such as Ramsay’s struggle to fit in and his constant quest for food, which provide readers with many laughs while touching on themes of loyalty, survival, and companionship. What stands out most is Ramsay’s lively personality; he exudes a mix of mischief and bravery, whether facing the unknown or the dangers of life in Liberia. His antics, from scaring guests to his encounters with wildlife, make for engaging storytelling that will appeal to readers of all ages. The images throughout the book are entertaining and tell a story in themselves; some are laugh-out-loud hilarious, like when Ramsey surfs. Overall, Ramsay the Cat is an endearing read that effortlessly combines humor and heartfelt moments. It is a delightful choice for animal lovers, especially feline lovers, and anyone who enjoys stories with a touch of adventure.
Having once owned an adventurous ginger female cat (rare, I know), I found myself attracted to the cover of this book, and I must say that ‘Ramsay the Cat’ by fellow Aussie author, Wolf Norris, is a great read!
The story follows Ramsay, an energetic ginger cat with a knack for getting into (and out of) all sorts of mischief. Rescued as a tiny kitten from a demolition site in Liberia by a man nicknamed Smarty, Ramsay’s life takes a wild turn when Smarty’s mother-in-law, Betty, brings him all the way to Hollywood.
Throughout the story, Ramsay’s spirited personality really shines — he loves to leap out from hiding places to surprise people, will loudly meow what he likes and doesn’t like, can be a bit of a food snob, enjoys sneaking off for secret outdoor escapades, and chases adventure wherever it takes him. Some of his adventures go awry — like when he gets tangled in barbed wire or even hit by a car — but Ramsay’s resilience and charm always see him through.
One of my favourite parts was when he somehow ends up on a surfboard and becomes an unexpected Instagram celebrity! It’s hilarious and adorable at the same time. Later, when Ramsay becomes a father, his bond with his kitten Fluffy (a little ginger just like him), with a similar knack for finding trouble, adds a lovely emotional layer to the story.
This book is perfect for families and young readers who love animals, adventure, and a touch of humour. It’s an uplifting tale about courage, curiosity, and the special bond between humans and their fur babies.

After a dramatic fall from the ceiling of an abandoned building in Liberia, West Africa, Ramsay’s life takes an unexpected turn when he’s rescued and begins a new journey with his owner, named after a famous chef.
Ramsay's adventures span continents, from his rescue in Africa to his vibrant life in Hollywood, California. The novel cleverly blends humor and charm as Ramsay becomes an Instagram sensation, meets literary icons like Thornton from The Call of the Wild, and even embarks on a journey as a surfing cat. Despite his newfound fame and excitement, Ramsay’s insatiable curiosity keeps the reader wondering, "What's next for him?"
With its lighthearted tone and quirky storyline, Ramsay the Cat is a delightful read for animal lovers and those seeking an uplifting story about resilience, adventure, and the bonds we share with our pets. Ramsay the Cat (by Wolf Norris) is a cat’s story for kids. Told almost completely from the viewpoint of an orphaned cat who is taken into the new world of a human household — with the added interest that these humans, though Americans, live in exotic Africa — it helps give kids an idea of what it’s like to be a cat, though the thoughts of the central character, a rather sassy little cat, are completely anthropomorphized. But how else could human readers get into a cat’s head? When the cat moves to America, there’s the added interest of how it handles all the cultural differences. All in all, a cute story, with lots of day-to-day adventures — for a cat, anyway — though one wonders how long it will hold the interest of the average human kid today. While it’s touted to be for readers eight to eighteen, the younger end of that range might be more intrigued. Pictures are always a plus for any children’s book, but the occasional black-and-white, photolike thumbnail AI images here add minimal interest.
As I love animals, I thought that this book would be an epic read. However, the book was very poorly written, and told in a stream of consciousness style, which did not fit the events of the book. I felt like the book was bogged down by too many superfluous details. The reader does not need to know every single thing that Ramsey does every single day of his life. The book could’ve definitely been a lot shorter and more concise highlighting all of Ramsey‘s epic adventures.
I also thought that the clip art style graphics were unnecessary and did not compliment the book at all. In fact, I feel like it cheapened the story and would have been better without. While I greatly enjoyed learning about Ramsey and his awesome adventures, I really struggled to get through this book. I found myself having to take frequent breaks because the book was laden with unnecessary verbiage.
Ramsay the Cat, warm and funny, brings life to middle-grade stories with his open-heartedness. After moving from West Africa to California, his first-person tales are lively, entertaining, and a bit mischievous. He does what any cat would and always lands in an adventure.
The writing is light and accessible. The playful humour appeals to kids and even makes adults smile, while gentle, touching moments avoid being preachy or sentimental. Some scenes repeat, but Ramsay’s personality makes it work.
This book is suitable for readers ages 8+, cat lovers, and anyone who enjoys stories that end with a smile. It blends classic charm and modern fun for a cosy, feel-good read.
Ramsay the Cat is a funny and enjoyable read. Experiencing the world through the eyes of a curious, spirited kitten is delightful. From Africa to California, rambunctious Ramsay charms nearly everyone he meets. Along the way, he discovers a love for surfing, develops a taste for French cuisine and Mexican fish tacos, dislikes airplane travel and cat food, and thrives on surprises and attention. This story is filled with lighthearted adventures and simple, old-fashioned fun. Readers young and old will enjoy Ramsay the Cat!
What a fun and heartwarming story this book is. Ramsay the Cat had me smiling from the very first page. From falling into Smarty’s arms to surfing waves in Malibu, every chapter was full of charm and humor. I loved the mix of real-life inspiration and over-the-top adventures, it made the book so entertaining.
Perfect for those who want a light funny read. Ramsay is mischievous, lovable, and unforgettable. A truly delightful book
A fun and engaging story about a rescue cat from Africa to United States. The cat has various adventures and gets into a lot of mischief. He charms the people he comes into contact with. The story is told from the POV of the cat. While the story is funny and engaging, it could be polished to flow fluently and adapted for little readers. Still a good read.
This was a fun kitty adventure that touches your heart and funny bone! Ramsay is a curious cat, finding all sorts of ways to learn new things and cause a bit of mischief. Kids will enjoy reading from his point of view, maybe comparing him to their own silly kitty. There is enough interest for parents as well, making it a fun story kids and parents can read together. One drawback is that it had a few slow points that might cause some kids to lose focus along the way, but overall it was a good story, especially for cat lovers.
“Ramsay the Cat” follows a curious, whiskered adventurer whose funny and heartwarming escapades gently teach lessons on friendship, courage, and family. Filled with humour and wholesome adventure, it’s a delightful read that keeps young readers engaged and smiling. Beautiful book.
