A grand-scale ship hovering five miles above the destruction.
Twenty thousand onboard riding out the disaster.
Like all passengers on the Aureate, Aiza doesn’t remember her life before the day she was brought aboard. For years, she has struggled to understand why the Directive saved her, until the week of her eighteenth birthday, when she learns that she and a stranger have been chosen to rule the New World together when the ship grounds. But not all is as it seems inside this skyborne sanctuary. Just when Aiza and her newly betrothed are poised in the spotlight, their identities concealed by matching golden masks, she uncovers the catastrophic secret the Directive has been hiding.
With every lie and injustice upon which their gilded refuge was built imminently threatening to surface, Aiza must find a way to expose their devious deliverers before they can frame her. But to free herself and the other passengers from their control, she’ll need allies from every floor, including the boy from the ship’s crew to whom she is indelibly drawn, who teaches her to believe in a future they’ll make for themselves someday.
He’s hiding a secret of his own, though, and as tensions rise, Aiza must decide how much she’s willing to risk to win this war she’s waged, what she’ll sacrifice to bring the passengers back to the ground to face the truth they left buried below.
Hannah August, PLEASE, tell me you have a movie deal already in the works because this really needs to be one!!
I don’t even know where to begin with this book. This is “The 100” if getting off the space station was not possible. (YET?) Aiza, Cace, Leo, Kayla, and Tye are fighting against the Directive abord the Aureate.
The characters are amazing!! The plot is paced with perfection AND includes twists that left me in total shock!!! The backstory is included slowly and perfectly timed for the best shocking moments.
Lovers of “Divergent”, “The 100”, and “Hunger Games” will enjoy this story as well.
4.5 but rounded up because man oh man was I on the edge of my seat those last 100 pages or so. I kept thinking "What's going to happen?" And then something else completely different ended up happening. From the beginning we have the question "Why is Aiza (Anna) on the Aureate and why is she so important compared to the others?" A question you think you will get the answer to, and then nothing! Ahh! Well done Hannah!
It's dystopian, almost post apocalyptic because the world they know is completely destroyed by earthquakes that take out everything and only the select chosen survivors are on the Aureate, a huge floating ship. They have to survive at all costs to eventually make it back to earth and repopulate, but there is something more going on in the Aureate that no one is talking about. A secret that someone will go at great lengths to protect.
This book is 570 pages of character building, getting to know the Aureate, getting to know the many key people, and no questions being answered (the hardest part of that ending).
I didn't really have expectations going into this book, yet it somehow exceeded everything I thought it would be!! It has resemblance to the Divergent, Hunger Games, and Shatter Me series, but is totally still uniquely its own.
Hannah's imagery was fantastic. I was honestly hooked from the beginning and could see it as a movie in my head. The plot didn't thicken too quickly, but it was never not interesting. There was always something going on that made you want to keep reading and find out what was going to happen next.
Every time I thought I had it figured out, BOOM, there was a new plot twist revealing information I didn't see coming. I kept going back and forth throughout the book on multiple characters too, wondering if they were going to end up being the villain or the hero! On some of them, I'm still a bit undecided!!
If you enjoy a headstrong FMC, a badass best friend, love triangles, forbidden love, lots of secrets, and so many plot twists -- this book is for you!!
The Aureate is a perfect example of how a well-crafted plot and intriguing characters can keep readers on the edge of their seats from start to finish.
What a unique book! Aiza is beyond a beautiful FMC for such a story! I feel like she is so strong headed and refuses to give up what she knows is the right thing! Watching her not just save herself but everyone on board the Aureate made my heart so full! This Sci-fi romance had me from page one! Highly suggest it!
The novel’s explosive opening begins with the Exitus, an apocalyptic event destroying the planet's landmass. The Directive, a government entity, has selectively abducted and mind wiped survivors, bringing them aboard a floating ship called The Aureate. Everyone else is left behind as the last of civilization falls to destruction.
Three and a half years later, Aiza is a shunned teenager living aboard The Aureate. We learn that the government has instilled a rigid social system. Everyone has been given tag trackers that note their identity, position and schedules. They exist on the hope that eventually they would return to a habitable earth and resume their lives in freedom. Stubborn, free thinking Aiza finds herself caught amidst The Directive’s plots and manipulations. In discovering a horrific truth, she plans an uprising to free herself and the other passengers.
This book is so fun because you are constantly questioning people’s intentions, motivations and loyalties. Aiza and company have a formidable task and every step forward feels like two steps back. There's also the underlying mystery of what’s actually happening on the earth and if it’s still habitable. As a character, I found Aiza a bit frustrating because she’s very impulsive. However, she's just a teenager in a terrible situation.
I love how immersive The Aureate world seems with its government order, social structures and cliques. I love the whole cast of supporting characters - Cace with his mysterious background, one sided love interest Leo, abrasive but loyal Kayla, and friendly Tye. I love the fast pacing and government intrigue. Also, world building on a ship might seem a bit unnecessary, but author Hannah August blew me away. The Aureate ship is absolutely massive with living areas, crew areas, mysterious Directive levels with hidden locked doors and unexplored sub levels.
This book is an absolute blast and a wild rollercoaster of a read. I would recommend it to readers who enjoyed The 100, Divergent, Hunger Games and Shatter Me. I would also recommend to readers who enjoy shadowy government machinations, a stubborn FMC, and dreamy forbidden loves who enjoy stargazing. This book, especially the last 20%, reads fast due to non stop action, intrigue, twists and revelations. I am emotionally invested in some of these characters (Aiza, Tye, Leo) and already super excited for book two!
When an author, who also writes young adult, recommended Hannah August as an debut author with a book that had to be read, I didn’t hesitate. I went in knowing it would be good; but this debut author gave us one heck of a debut novel! Knowing that it will be a trilogy, I am beyond excited to see where Hannah takes the storyline in the next two books. Her imagination knows no bounds with her world building and character development.
The book starts out with action already happening. Hannah wasted no time putting readers into the thick of things. To “save” civilization the government has stepped in to “help”. We meet Alza who lives on the ship The Aureate, the floating ship with government chosen survivors. The ship has divided into a rigid social system and Alza is shunned. The overall goal is to one day be able to go back to land and start over.
She discovers a devastating truth and decides enough is enough. She is strong willed, resilient, and will always stand for the underdog. Her journey is full of twists and turns since it is difficult to know who to trust and who not to. She can definitely be impulsive, but I think she is just reacting as she discovers things upon the ship. Intertwined with the government secrets is the mystery of what is actually happening on earth.
Hannah gives us a story that is passion filled, intense, and only ⅓ of the way over. Our FMC has a journey ahead of her, but thankfully she has a group of passengers that decide to stand with her as well. The overall storyline is fast paced, as action is usually always happening. However, when the storyline slows down, we see people trying to enjoy life the best they can, while they know it is only a matter of time before the action picks back up again. Highly recommended and excited to read book 2!
As always, review any author notes before reading.

Looking for an epic Sci-Fi romantasy filled with action-packed scenes, plot twists, diverse cast of characters, and a strong fmc who always fights for what is right no matter the cost? Welcome aboard the mysterious Aureate ship where everyone has their own hidden motives.
I have never read a story like this one before, and I have to say that Mrs.August's storytelling captured my attention from start to finish with it's stunning world building, and amazing attention to detail especially how well excuted, and fast the pacing is.
I truly felt as though I was watching a Sci-Fi movie while reading this story, and I loved The 100 tv show vibes. There's a mysterious ship, a catastrophic event referred to as the Exitus, and a secret villan who is the true mastermind on the ship.
The plot twists in the story had me on the edge of my seat, and just when I thought I figured one out I was immediately proven wrong. I had fun trying to guess who the true villian was,and I was definitely left speechless at the end of the book with that brilliant cliffhanger.
The fmc Aiza is a strong, brave, loyal friend, and throughout the story she never gave up hope.✨️ The mmc Cace is a very interesting character who's true identity caught me off guard.
The friends to lovers romance in the story never felt rushed. Aiza, and Cace are a cute couple, and the support they showed each other is wonderful to see.One of my favorite scenes from the story is the starry night greenhouse it was a very romantic moment, and it made me get teary-eyed.😭
There's more that I loved about this story, but I will not say anymore because I would like to keep my review spoiler-free.
Thank you Mrs.August for the opportunity to read your stunning book, and I look forward to reading, and learning more about the mysterious Aureate ship.
The Aureate by Hannah J. August releases on November 12th 2024. I highly recommend reader's add this epic Sci-Fi romantasy to their tbrs.Trust me when I say that you need this story in your life.🌌
ARC Review: Where do I begin? I absolutely LOVED The Aureate. It is a long book, but the chapters are short. It captures your attention right from the beginning and holds it all throughout the book. It is truly action packed. Hannah definitely well exceeded all my expectations when it came to this one. The plot was so unique to me and there were so many secrets, lies, twists, and turns and I was on the edge of my seat the whole book. I had a really hard time putting it down. The world building is beautiful and Hannah does a fantastic job with descriptions so you can really envision exactly what she is describing. I loved all that imagery and how you felt like you were in the book yourself. Aiza, the FMC, knows something is off with the Aureate and begins working hard to figure out what that is and how it involves her. With her memories wiped upon her entering the ship, it proves to be a difficult task, though she isn’t the only one who remembers bits and pieces. Aiza and her friends start piecing together things and start questioning the true motives behind the Aureate and its directive. There are different social classes (that aren’t really supposed to interact) as well as cliques but Aiza finds her people. I found myself going back and forth between loving and hating certain characters and you never truly know who the villains are. The plot twists are absolutely phenomenal and keep you on your toes. I cannot wait for the next book in this series because… that cliffhanger is brutal and I have so many unanswered questions. Overall, it was a phenomenal read and I highly recommend it. I think just about anyone would enjoy this book.
This science fiction, post-apocalyptic book is phenomenal! I had been highly anticipating this book and it did not disappoint. It reminded me why sci-fi/fantasy are my favorite genres. It was giving Silo and almost a reverse on The 100 vibes but the specifics were still really unique.
A big aspect of the story is that all the lower social tiers have had their minds wiped. I found Aiza frustrating at times because she was making rash, emotional decisions but when you only have memories from the past 4ish years, you really don’t have a lot of experience to learn and grow from.
The only people that haven’t had their minds wiped are those in charge. Knowledge is power and they’ve made sure they are the only ones with that knowledge.
Hannah J. August did a fantastic job writing this and had my internal dialogue all over the place.
“Could he be her brother? Oh heavens, I hope that’s not her brother! Ugh, is he lying? Can you trust him? Don’t trust him Aiza! Maybe you should just trust him.”
The forbidden love, the conflict, the unknown , it was all so intriguing and kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next.
If you like sci-fi, political intrigue, or gripping love stories, you need to read this book! It would make a perfect Christmas present for any book lover!
"He was a crew member, I was a resident. Our paths should have never crossed at all. But now that they had, it was not the stars I feared I'd never see again after tonight."
Welcome to The Aureate, a grand-scale ship hovering five miles above a world shattered by earthquakes. A sanctuary where twenty-thousand survivors are left to ride out the disaster.
Except, not everything is as it seems when there are more secrets than answers...
This is one of those books that sticks with you long after you finish reading it, and in the best possible way. The characters and story draw you in, and you are left thinking about this world even after you put the book down. I'm a sucker for romance, and this one had me smiling the whole way through.
A book should not only allow you to escape for a little while, it should inspire you, and this book did that for me. The thought and love that the author poured into this story is apparent in every single word.
If you loved The Hunger Games, then this is a MUST READ.
I cannot wait to see where this Trilogy takes us. If I could give it ten stars, I absolutely would. 🖤
✨️My thoughts✨️ This was a phenomenal book! Shout out to @courtneyroseleen for telling me about it! The Aureate truly captured my attention from the beginning till the end. I still can't get over the plot and how DETAILED everything was. As I was reading this, I could picture it like a movie. The main character, Aiza, is a true fighter for the truth to be exposed. Which hands down, go her! I will admit that for the characters, I went back and forth on who was a hero and villain. This book is filled with plot twists, secrets, shady government, and more. I can't wait for book 2 since I have sooo many questions, and book 1 ends on a cliffhanger!
✨️ Favorite qoutes ✨️ “Promise you won’t come looking for me again." “I’d rather spend my life fighting to be this close to you… than forget you.”
One day we too would have to break free of our cage. Whatever it takes. Whatever waits outside.
✨️ Tropes ✨️ Clean romance Memory wipe/Forgotten past Dystopia/false utopia Long book/short chapters The chosen one Rage to royalty
I am so incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have received an advanced copy of The Aureate from the author! 🫶
“Beware of the bird you cage.”
The Aureate by Hannah August is a masterpiece! 🥹🖤 It is phenomenal and I love everything about this book so much that I read the whole thing in one sitting. It was such a wild ride and it brought me through all of the emotions while reading! 😭😱😤🥰🤯
Hannah August's writing style gave me goosebumps with every single line that was written in the story and I honestly thought it was beautiful beyond words can describe. I want this book to become a movie one day because it seriously would be so cool to see all of this come to life on the big screen!
If you love science fiction, romantasy, the 100 TV show vibes, the hunger games vibes, divergent vibes, forbidden love, secrets, and so many plot twists that will shock you to the point of dropping your kindle then this is the book for you because it’s an absolute must-read! 🫶
ARC review: I adored this book! I loved the imagery and the characters. It was so easy to picture everything that was going on. All of the characters had depth and there were times where I’d go back and forth on who the villains are.
It seemed like it took a bit to get going but once it did it didn’t stop! This was a longer book but the chapters were short. There was always something going on and once it picked up it felt like everything flew by.
So many plot twists! Every time I thought I had things figured out there was a new twist. I couldn’t tell for sure what the characters motivations or were or whose side they were on. I still have so many unanswered questions and can’t wait for the next one!
I’d recommend this to anyone but especially if you love a headstrong FMC, tons of plot twists, a shady government, love triangles, and so much more!
This book is so good. It reminds me of Silo (the tv show, haven't read the book) but on a platform in the sky instead of underground. I haven't read many YA books as of late but it was refreshing to read something without spice that is just chock full of plot and loveable characters. The FMC grows so much it is refreshing. The sweet gentle relationship between Aiza and Cace is so endearing. Besides the amazing characters, the plot is beyond spectacular. The story is fast-paced, yet detailed. You can paint the images of some locations so clearly in your mind it is perfection. I cannot wait for book two to come out. The book ends in such a way where you aren't dying because of the cliffhanger but you still want to get your hands on the next book ASAP. This is an absolute must-read for anyone who likes sci-fi dystopian series.
I had the opportunity to read this as an arc thanks to the author. Science fiction meets dystopian. This story follows a girl as she is taken from her home, as the world is being destroyed, to live on a ship above Earth. Once on the ship, all of her memories are scrubbed, except that she still remembers the day she was brought on, but she keeps it a secret. Three years have passed and she is chosen by the Chancellor to be the new primary along with a guy she has never seen before and they are masked to hide their identities, but she questions the chancellor’s motives. As secrets start to spill out, she begins to piece together what The Aureate is really meant to do. This is a first book in a series and does end on a cliffhanger. Aiza, the fmc, is such a strong willed character and Cace is such a sweet guy with her. And I can’t wait to see what happens with Leo next.
Thank you SO much to Hannah J. August and her team for accepting me into this ARC team for a fair and honest review!
I am FLOOOOORED. I devoured this book. 570 pages in just under 24 hours while I was working?? Gimme 14 of em.
This story, while I personally see heavy inspiration from The 100, is still so beyond unique?! The world building, the characters and the twists in this had me frothing at the mouth for more. I loved our FMC and all of her friends. There wasn’t a single moment when I wasn’t biting my nails over my worry for them. The ending was immaculate and has me begging for book two. This series is going to GO PLACES.
I really enjoyed reading this book! I thought it was fast paced, when you thought you knew who was the villain in a part the plot twist got you! The characters in this book have you questioning who is good and bad, the FMC is a little annoying but she’s young and considering everything she’s gone through at that young age you can’t blame her. The last few chapters you read make you feel like you don’t want the book to end bc you need to find out the rest of the story! lol Can’t wait for book two already! Thanks to Hannah and her team for letting me be a part of the ARC team and having read her book! :D
Thank you, Hannah J. August, for the opportunity to read your debut novel!
The Aureate is mysterious and intriguing, with a twist at every turn. The brilliant way that the author reveals little secrets to you, piece by piece, keeps you guessing and constantly wanting more. Beautifully written, immersive, and captivating with endearing characters and sweet romance. It’s giving sci-fi Titanic with a dash of Inception and a sinister, dystopian haze in ALL the best ways. I can’t wait to read the rest of this intense and entertaining trilogy!
///Finally, he turned to me. “Aiza,” he said, “it’s all a show.” Then the light cut out and darkness surrounded me again.///
I had no idea what this book was about prior to reading but I was hooked not long after starting. Aiza is a 18 year old girl who after an Earth shattering event finds herself as one of the last humans alive. Except she has no memory of her life before. If you like the show the 100 this has major vibes.
This book had so many twists and mysteries that it kept me guessing the entire time. The build up was fantastic. I thought it set up book 2 great and can’t wait to read the next!
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
YES! YES! YES! If I could give this book 10 stars, I would! I absolutely love this book so much. From page 1, I was instantly hooked! Hannah August does an incredible job building the dystopian society of The Aureate. It is pretty rare for me to enjoy ALL the characters in a book, but I absolutely loved every single one in this story. The plot line is so well written with so many twists and turns that keep you engaged and wanting to read more. This book was so hard to put down because I just HAD to know what happened next! If you love the show The 100, dystopian societies and sci-fi, this is a MUST read!
I LOVED this book! The story was new and not something I've read before, which is tough to do nowadays. I was definitely hooked immediately. The story was filled with twists, action and emotion. The characters were really well written and easy to connect with - and I loved all of them. The way Hannah wrote this story - the imagery, characters and events - was so good and so descriptive. Everything was unique and thrilling and I couldn't put it down once I started! I finished it in one day it was so good. Every piece of it kept me wanting more and every twist had me guessing until the very end, and I'm dying to know what happens next and the 'who' (IYKYK) 100% recommend!!
I was so happy to be given the opportunity to read this book as part of the Street Team! This book gave me feral feelings. I couldn’t stop reading. I’m not going to spoil this for anyone but this book is worth the read of all 500+ pages. I need more!
I love the world and characters in this book. It was interesting to read about the Aureate and the way this world works. The Aureate seems so big and complex, and I’m excited to find out more secrets it holds in the next books. Thank you for letting me read early!
I absolutely adored this book! It's full of intrugue and suspense, and the characters are impeccable! You never truly know what is about to happen until it does, and it will send you reeling! I am so ready for the next book in this series!
This one is a fun read. Also still ending with a cliffhanger. A story about the future and how to survive (or not). Like how it was written. Some love story/ side plots and a rebel girl. Fun read.
