“Hoot” is a picture book written for children ages 1-3 years old. It hasn’t won any awards but I think that it should have. It’s about an ow looking for his friends. It consists of colors and numbers and has fun rhyming. I have this book a 5 star because I think it’s perfect for the age group it was written for. The rhymes are simple, and how the author incorporated the numbers and colors into it was creative and fascinating enough for toddlers. The illustrations are very colorful and they even have holes for the owls’ eyes throughout the book for toddlers to touch. That is a great way to get them interacting. The characters are very simple with simple names and it is a short, straightforward story, which is great for this age group. When working with children, I would use this book when I am teaching colors and numbers. The numbers only go up to five in this book, but it’s a good start and children may not get too overwhelmed this way.

A fun boardbook; apart from counting there's also holding up the cover in front of your face so that you use it as a bird mask :)

Miss 3 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.

Owl #1 plays hide and seek with his friends owls #2-5 and then snuggles in his nest to sleep. My toddler likes it for the same reason it creeps me out. The board book has giant owl eyes on the front that are concentric rings of progressively smaller eye circles. So on every page are owl eye holes you can put your finger in. Not my favorite but if that doesn’t bother you then go for it.

A nice book for a toddler/pre-schooler with two interesting holes they can put their fingers in throughout the book. I had paperback copy. My 3 year old likes it but it only goes up to 5 owls with an o.k. rhyming story (not quite up to Julia Donaldson standard!).

This book has a cute story line for hide and seek and counting. We really enjoy it! It also has cool pages that were an obsession of our 18 month old. He just wanted to flip back and forth to manipulate things. A very cool book.

From the author who brought you the X for babies series, this is a basic lets count book.
Pretty standard, with rhymes etc, unlike the baby 101 series this is one of a crowded field.

I adore owls in board books. I'll check it out usually just because it has an owl in it! Luckily my 20 month old agrees. He recognizes most of the things on the pages so he enjoyed "reading" it to me. It was a good bedtime board book because there were several pages with the owls with their eyes closed to which he would gleefully say "sleep! sleep!" which is what I'm trying to get him to do during bedtime storytime ;) Woods has liked most of the books in the "My Little World" series. Definitely would recommend checking this out from your local library if you have a toddler :)

This owl’s friends leave him for dead. He wakes up and hunts them all down. Then he goes back to sleep. Also there are colors and numbers.
