I didn't really like any of the characters and the authors really butchered the Spanish in this book. Seriously, stop writing in Spanish if you don't speak it.

I like most of the story, but at some part I just felt like there's something missing and "the drama" look too "easy".

The dramatic antics of Augusto and Alex easily kept me entertained with their endless overreacting then kissing to make up. And speaking of kissing, these two boys are pretty damn combustible when it comes to getting down and dirty. There is plenty of sexy fun happening here.

This is the story of two dancers, Alexander and Augusto (Gus), both studying in Juilliard.

Alexander is from a rich family, knows more his nanny than his own parents and acts as a jerk most of the time. Nobody has any idea of how he is inside.
Augusto has a very loving but poor family, fights to be accepted in Juilliard and works as a dancer at Santo's, a performance gay club.

The two MCs are very different and hate each other at first sight. But then Alex sees Augusto dancing and falls head over heels for him.

It was hard for me to write a review for this book.

I liked it and not :/

Each one of the characters is well depicted. The background for Gus is profound. We have a lot of informations. While reading, we learn a lot about his family, his adopted brother Donny, one of his lover, Kemar, who died a few years ago and his lover's father Luther who owns the club where he performs. These informations anchor the character in the story. We don't have as much information about Alex. His family and a former (awful, should I add !) lover are almost the only insight we get about his life. They have some great friends too, specially Carolynne, Jason and Keith that I loved. I would love to know more about them, especially about Keith, especially his love life.

I have to say there was great sex scenes too. Very hot sex scenes and that's a good point, to me :)

All of this was interesting to read but other details make me say this book wasn't for me.

First, there's a French teacher in Juilliard. When she speaks English, she uses some French words. It's just odd because, except if snob, no French person would do that in real life. And I can speak freely about it because I'm French. Plus, she says 'qui' at the end of some sentences which is completely weird. (Sometimes, when we speak quickly we add 'quoi' at the end of phrases - and it's mostly local, not a national rule :) - but never while using another language)
As a rule, no use of foreign language if you're not fluent...

Second, even if I liked what the story could have been, some sentences seemed to be meant just as false romantical random phrases. A little too cheesy maybe...Such as "If I could give you the world, that would be but a fraction of your worth to me". I just thought 'Ha !'. And the answer : "See ? That's just it. I don't want the world. I just... I want you." Stop or I'll cry... It may do it for some people but it was just too much for me. I'm usually a sucker for HEA but there, I didn't feel it as a believable story.

I'm just saying I'm a little disappointed by the book. I'm sure the authors meant well but it wasn't a book for me. It could have been so much more. As usual, it's not because it didn't do it for me that someone else won't like it. So try it and send me a message so we can talk about it :)

I hope you'll enjoy more than me :)

Alexander Benton is rude, ostentatious, entitled, domineering and handsome. He has spent his life with a silver spoon up his ass the product of money and an upper class life style. The only thing Alex has missed out on is love. True, unyielding, undying and unconditional love. His parents are never around and the one person that he trusted and gave his heart to, tore it apart. In an effort to remain indifferent, he's only done the occasional hookup or his latest friends with benefits, that is more benefits than friends.

Augusto Catalan is polar opposite of Alex. He has worked hard to get where he is and came from practically nothing. The Spanish American dancer wears his pride on his sleeve and has had the love of his parents and adopted brother, along with his boss and long term partners father for as long as he can remember. After the death of his lover to cancer, Gus never wanted to open his heart or his life to another man. He can't take a chance of being hurt that deeply ever again. That is until he meets Alex.

Alex and Gus butt heads from the start. They really, truly can't stand one another. The mutual disdain is insurmountable, and the sexual tension couldn't be cut with a pair of garden sheers! Gus knows he should walk away from the brash dancer, but he can't help himself, and one stolen kiss later, the two can't seem to stop thinking about each other. Sparks fly and passion ignites when they stop running, and stand still long enough to get their arms wrapped around each other. But can a person really change who they are? Will Alex be able to give up the control he so desperately clings too in order to capture and hold on to Gus's heart? And if he can, will Gus open himself up to love and be loved again?

Cassatta and Duchene have delivered a well written and highly emotional love story set in a world surrounded by dance. Alex is an accomplished ballet dancer and Gus is a striving fresh new dancer, just enrolled at Julliard. They really come together and compliment each other, learning from each others weakness's and gaining from each other's strength. My only teensy issue was the slight resemblance of insta love at one point in the story, and a little misplaced angst here and there. But overall this was a fun, fast read that got my blood pumping and left me with a smile on my face.

If you like a passionate love story between a couple of sexy guys that have to learn how to bend and move to please each other (pun intended!) with a Happy ending (!!) then this is the story for you.

I enjoyed reading the story of Augusto (Gus) and Alex and the blurb gives a slightly distorted impression as reading it I prepared to dislike Alex and root for Augusto, but in reading the story it was the other way round. Alex is from a very rich influential family, but has never been shown or experienced love. Brought up by Nannies and expensive gifts, his parents were either uncaring or absent and he had no siblings.
Augusto has grown up with very little material wealth but a wealth of love, from family and friends including real romantic love in the form of Kemar, who died young from cancer. Augusto now makes ends meet by dancing at a gay club, owned by his dead lover’s father, Luther, called Santos.
This is a very sensual work and the first part, in which Gus and Alex meet as Gus auditions for Julliard, and later as Alex and Gus become very aware of each other is maybe the best part of the story. The scene where Gus is onstage dancing on Santos’ BDSM night is very erotic. The sensuality is clearly important from the first pages where Gus, on his own, tries to cool down in his overheated apartment,

'He lay on his back on the floor and dragged one cube to its death across his abs then up his neck. When it melted completely, he reached for another, tracing it slowly down his body, then between his thighs.'

Their relationship grows very quickly and very sexually, and although there are a few issues to be resolved along the way as they learn about each other and each other’s pasts, this is not an angst heavy story. It really is, in the end, a story about how one who has never known love finds it, with one who is at ease with love.
What raises Dance for Me above many of this type, is the sensual way the intimate and sexual scenes are written, and there are quite a few to enjoy,

'A raw sound he couldn’t control escaped his throat even as he deepened the kiss while caressing the back of Alex’s neck. His free hand was busy fondling Alex’s ass, memorizing the tightness of it, the beauty of it. Groaning, he slipped that hand into the back of Alex’s pants, feeling out the crack and tracing it lightly with the tips of his fingers.'

One last point, the publisher mentions that the story is ‘interracial’. I’m not quite sure why this is pointed out as the issue of race, Gus I believe is Porto Rican, is not really relevant to this story as much as wealth is. Perhaps it would have been more of an interesting issue if we finally had a rich Hispanic with a poor white American.

Trish reviews Dance For Me by Remmy Duchene, Allison Cassatta.

REVIEW: Augusto Catalan is a brilliant, but poor dancer who makes a living dancing at Santo’s-a gay performance club. He’s happy with his life, but the lost of his lover to cancer, his brother being in Afghanistan, and his dream of getting into Julliard slipping away, things are starting to look bleak. He finally tries out for Julliard, and to his shock, he actually makes it. Alexander Benton is used to getting everything he wants. With his wealthy parents away most of the time, Alex is left alone to run wild in Manhattan, and to rule Julliard with impunity. Behind all of the wild partying and meaningless sex, Alex hides his utter misery. When Augusto and Alex meet for the first time, Alex decides that there’s no way this guy from the ghetto will ever make it at HIS school-until he watches Augusto dance. At first, neither one wants anything to do with the other, but then a teacher assigns Alex the task of mentoring Augusto. As they learn more about each other, they find their powerful attraction growing into something much stronger, if only the two can keep past mistakes and misunderstandings from tearing them apart.

Dance For Me by Allison Cassatta and Remmy Duchene is a beautiful, emotionally charged story of how two men from completely different worlds find themselves drawn together by the love of dance, and how love can have a way of sneaking up on you despite first impressions. This smoothly flowing character driven story pulls you in from the very first page, and as you gradually get to know each of the main characters, you realize that what you see is definitely not all you get. The backstory does an excellent job of answering how the characters became who they are today. Both authors have done a fantastic job of skillfully weaving their own distinct style of writing into a lovely, concise, and uniquely original whole. The sex is hot, passionate, and tender with a depth far beyond the mere physical. Despite some shocks, misunderstandings, and past mistakes coming back to haunt them, the story DOES have a HEA ending. I really enjoyed reading this story, and if you want a glorious book that combines love and the love of dance, then this is the book for you.

Summary:

It is always interesting to experience how different people view life as they live it. Alexander had everything money could buy form the day he was born and seemed to revel in the power it gave him until the moment he first saw Augusto dance. Augusto had to work for everything he had, but even with all those problems his family always stood by him. Augusto never thought his dancing was good enough for Juilliard, but with his roommates support he decided to try out. The first time Alexander and Augusto met to say that extreme dislike would not be strong enough, but as the old saying goes opposites do attract and Alexander wanted Augusto. It was sad how Alexander quickly realized that his superior and condescending attitude was driving not only Augusto, but others away. Watching Alexander change from a self-centered to caring individual was wonderful. The first time Alexander met Augusto's family he learned what a true love was and he appreciated how they included him as a member for their family. Real love is never easy, but with commitment and understanding it is definitely worth the effort as Augusto and Alexander learned.

A Joyfully Jay review.

Let me start this off by saying, overall this story was sweet, maybe a little melodramatic and unbelievable at times, but still very sweet. I enjoyed the basis of this story—young love, boy meets boy, boys despise one another, boys inevitably fall in love, screw it up, make up, and live happily ever after. As a young love (not young adult) story Dance with Me is very good. It gives the feeling that nothing is impossible, that love conquers all, and that as perfect as love can seem at times, it’s not always so. I enjoyed that aspect of it.

While I don't quite understand how one brief encounter turns Alex from a spoiled entitled brat to a loving generous man, you have to admire his determination to change. All Augusto wants to do is dance, he does not have the time or energy for Alex, especially since Alex is so unlikable. They moved to everlasting love a little too quickly for me and there was some unnecessary angst over Alex' desire to fix everything.

A lovely romance. I just wish there had been a bit more focus on the dancing school and the classes and competition there. But other than that, I loved it. I loved Gus, and after Alex decided to change it up and become a human being, he was pretty awesome too. Great story.

It was a nice read, would probably read something else from these authors. Not gonna say what I found because I don't want to spoil it.
