Malala Yousafzai Leading Women is an excellent novel about how Malala fought very hard for women's rights while defying the Taliban in her country. This novel is about a young Pakistani girl named Malala who is now a spokes person for a women's rights to education. While speaking out for woman's rights, she defied the Taliban and was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman at a very close range. She survived this murder attempt and continued her fight for women's rights. As a result of her efforts, she has received numerous peace awards. Author Cathleen Small did a great job at making the reader feel what Malala was going through. This book is very interesting and always leaves you wanting to read more.
This novel gave great quotes from Malala that made it stand out. For example, Malala said "If one man, Fazullah, can destroy everything, why can't one girl change it?(38)" Using the quotes made it more realistic for the reader. Her quotes also show how much she is committed to women's rights. Malala said on page 21, "They cannot stop me. I will get my education if it's at home, school, or somewhere else. This is our request to the world-to save our schools, save our Pakistan, save our Swat." This shows how determined and brave Malala is. She is so young yet she made such a big difference. Malala is a great example for other young women and this book shows that.
This book was very entertaining and left me on the edge of my seat. It was better than I expected because it was very detailed and descriptive. I feel like I could experience everything she was feeling. Malala is strong and an amazing role model for others. She risked her life for an education for herself and other woman in her country. Most people take going to school for granted. Malala was so determined to go to school, that she got shot for it. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read about a true role model. I give this book a five out of five stars.
