Blaise Corvin

Blaise Corvin served in the US Army in several roles. He has seen the best and the worst that humanity has to offer. He is a sucker for any hobby involving weapons, art, or improv.

He currently lives in Texas, in a house full of enough geeky memorabilia to start a museum.

He likes talking about himself in 3rd person and posting pictures of himself holding tarantulas. Sometimes, he pretends he is not an idiot with a terrible sense of humor.

It's all very eccentric.

Blaise currently writes mostly in the GameLit genre and LitRPG subgenre, exciting new classifications of fiction where characters either play a game (usually VR), or live in a world with game-like elements.

Delvers LLC is GameLit, lightly LitRPG, mostly a Fantasy/SciFi Adventure. Secret of the Old Ones is hard LitRPG, complete with XP and leveling...plus has Lovecraftian and steampunk elements (because why not?).

Dropping the series

The book is short. It doesn’t flow well. It was poorly edited. I enjoyed the first two books, but this one was a let down.

It is an interesting and fun addition to the series.

If you like the genre and Royal Road stories, then this is a good addition to the series for you. This does have the Royal Road feel of a run-on story where interesting stuff happens and then continues to happen before the story sort of ends while you wait for the next interesting thing to happen.
This isn't talking down on the story. But more to give the expectation that you're not going to get a solid beginning, middle, and end. You're going to get a story that will pull you through chapter by chapter for the next cool thing or event. Character development isn't the strongest here, but some of the side characters are funny and the interactions with the spirits did give me a chuckle.
Max is an interesting character, but hes also a character that doesn't really engage all that much with other characters outside of a few friends, and even then not all that deeply.

This is a fast pace action to action growth to growth type story where you don't really have a true single antagonist. As much as something threatening on the periphery of the story. That is part of the mystery and part of the fun and as much as the author likes to keep the plot unpredictable. I hope that he puts in some solid points for the reader to latch on and find stability in.

Cultivation goodness

Alternate universe, cultivation, LitRPG, dimensions, portals, OP ascension

Max does a lot of butt kicking, but also gets kicked around a lot. Having returned to earth, he spends time training and learning how the world had changed during his absence. While we hear about how North America fared, we don't hear much about the rest of world. Minor quibble. Chad and Lance step up and help Max settle an old score. Plenty of action, and Max still has relationship issues.

Above average editing. Enjoyed. Look forward to book 4.

DNF Tired of Main Character

They’re just pretty obnoxious and it’s wearing thin — too thin, finally. Big ego, emotionally immature, and… a bit shallow, in that they really tend to only value folks that are useful to them. In just tired of trying to push past all that.

It was an all right sequel

When it comes to a sequel I'm basically looking for everything that made the last book worth it and then some. I do try and make a distinction between the quality of the writing and my personal preferences. I would say that there shouldn't be any doubt that the author is talented. When it comes to my personal preferences I do enjoy his storytelling, but I have not seen him finish a series that has drawn me in. I have been told that he's at least completed one. Quite a bit of time has passed since I first picked up a book by this author. So from my point of view he writes like book 1 and 2 and then there's never a three. Now there's a series from the author that I'm reading and there's book three. I did like it but it appears to me that the gentleman likes to leave readers on a bit of a cliffhanger and this entry into the sequel is no different. Our main character is back on Earth and finding that things are not as good as he perhaps hoped. We find out that not all of his friends have survived from the academy. Although it's been enough time between book two and this one that I don't remember who the dead person is and despite the fact that the author did a recap there was no Refresher about who he had left behind. In the last two stories that I read from this author the gentleman sets everything up nicely for the characters and then completely remove them from the environment and put them in a completely different environment for everybody to start from Square One. The question that I have is whether or not this going to pay off in the long run. I think it's easy to make work if the series is actually completed. So I got my fingers crossed that a lot of people like this story and that the author is emotionally mentally physically and financially capable and willing to finish the story. If you can't tell by now, I don't exactly trust the author to deliver. Still I have hope but while story is it recommend from me to anybody reading this review, it is very much a buyer beware.

I am writing this review as a thank you to the author. I used to read this series on his Patreon page, but he had a lot of things pop up in life and the chapter releases were a bit too slow for me.

Finally, I decided to just wait until this book was released on Amazon. I just noticed that it is scheduled to be on Amazon on April 9th, 2025. I went ahead and pre-paid/ordered it (today is the 7th). Between his Patreon page and Royal Road, I have read most of this book. I still felt that I owed it to the writer to buy the book to show my appreciation for his efforts and creativity.

Back in the 1980s and 1990s people used to make software available for free with the understanding that folks would pay later if they valued the creator's work. Those kind, gentler days are gone, but it took courage for the author to post his work on Royal Road before publishing (kinda' like those 20th Century days) it on the 9th. Anyway, my 5.99USD on Amazon moments ago, is my thank you to Mr. Corvin for writing good stuff in a world that barely cares about quality anymore. Heh!

This entire series has been well thought out and at points, the story goes pretty deep into the philosophical spectrum of how people behave towards each other when the fecal matter impacts the impeller blades. In the beer and pretzels genre of LitRPG, this work might as well be Tolstoy's "War & Peace". Most authors don't bother rubbing two brain cells together before they spew text on to an electronic screen. Thank you Mr. Corvin for thinking about your story before you wrote it. :-)

P.S.: I just finished the last chapter posted elsewhere. This. Book. Is. Awesome! My only regret is how long I will need to wait to read book #4, now.
**Reading this book was like enjoying A Good Cup of Coffee, Cognac and A Hot Fudge Sundae rolled all into one experience.

I want to like this series.

I have a 5 star review policy. If you wrote and I read it then you get 5 stars. I want authors to keep writing and I know they live and die by the search algorithms. Keep reading if you want my thoughts on the book/ series itself.

So this follows the well trod paths of post apocalyptic system resets, but the story can’t seem to make up its mind on what trope it wants to focus on. In the past two books the main character (MC, who is a reincarnated super hero from another world) is sucked into a 7+ yrs long magical residency program when earth gets invaded and uncovers plots and intrigues. How does he uncover them? mostly by telling us. That is my main issue with the writing in this series. There is sooooo much telling instead of showing. The MC painstakingly supplies the entire thought process he has about everything he sees and does. Sometimes he even re-explains it to himself, his magical spirit companions and anyone else he happens to run across. The character explains to the reader over and over that he is a totally over powered monster but he just can’t show anybody cause… people would notice? In the third book the MC ditches his tutorial and goes back to earth with a big time gap for reasons that are just part of unexplained magic tutorial timey-wimey randomness. I was initially intrigued because of the title of this series. Several of my favorite Lit/RPG novels have reincarnated isekai’ed characters. He who fights with monster and The Beginning after the End are two of my favorite series, so I hoped this series would be similarly fun and amusing. Unfortunately it is just feels generic.

DNF Lost interest / didn't care

TL:DR This 3 book series could have been a new Delvers LLC, or even a Apocalypse Cultivation but we got this waste of time with an MC I wouldn't want to share an elevator with.

So after the disappointing Past Life Hero 2, I thought I'd give #3 a try to see if it got it's shit together.
No it hadn't, so I quit.
I really liked Apocalypse Cultivation, but that got abandoned on a cliffhanger after two books. I liked Sponsored Apocalypse less than that, but more than this... That got abandoned on a cliffhanger.
Now we got the least enjoyable of the bunch and Blaise decides to finally write a third book? WTF?

I'm having trouble conveying just how much this aggravates and disappoints me! This feels like when you get together with an old friend you haven't seen in forever and they start pretending that you are arguing with them. But if you say "HEY! No I'm not." They say "See! There you go again". ARGH!
Can't we cut the shit and go back to how it used to be? I'm really happy to see you, but not when your acting like this.
Man, I want another delvers book, or Apocalypse Cultivation ...but I guess I already said that.
Heavenly Grimm was a WAY better character.
Man, what if Blaise dies and this was the last book he wrote? can you imagine the loss? What a wasted opportunity this was when it could have been something good.

Double regression story with many twists.

Another of Blaise Corvin's intruiging works. Its well written, with twists and turns down unexpected alleyways. After escaping from the summoners academy, the MC returns to earth, years later. Humanity is holding out against the monster spewing portal invasions but people still do stupid stuff and make deals with powers they shouldn't. He battles fierce monsters and a rival guild, but is afraid to go see his momma. Lol.

After being put in the void for a timeout, he ends up in a most unexpected locale. Im looking forward a few months until book 4 drops. Cant hardly wait.

Good story, maybe released to early

The story is pretty good overall, even with the disjointment of suddenly being back on earth. There are a lot of sidequests that appear to be almost filler, but they're not too distracting. Overall, the pacing is better than previous books, and the action is still top-notch. Admittedly, the ending left a little to be desired, with a curve ball that seems more designed to prolongue the series than meaningfully advance the story, but it's still interesting, so I'll hold judgment until the next book comes out. Full confession, I definitely plan to read it as soon as.

Becoming my favorite litrpg author

Man, every time I pick up a Blaise Corvin book I know I'm in for a good time.

- A lack of torture porn and unnecessary suffering.
- Creativity and not being bound by tropes
- Plot twists that keep things fresh
- MCs that are likeable enough
- Actual proofreading
- Consistent improvement in his writing across every book, which are released pretty often

And then my personal enjoyment, continuity between series - they're all linked somehow- without real crossover.

Great job man, looking forward to the next.

better than the first 2

This was better than the first 2 books and they both set a pretty high bar! We are finally back on earth, figuring out what happened to the guild he started, his family, his friends, etc. there’s a rollercoaster of bad news that he has to fix. Some betrayals, some major butt kicking and just when it seems like our favorite anti hero is finally on top of the world - the adjudicators come knocking. Book 3 ends with a bang that leaves you demanding book 4 expeditiously

Just now twisty than ever

One thing I will say about Corvin is that he keeps you guessing. Every time I think I have the next step in the story figured out..... I may be wrong. It's just funny, to me, because I'll be right sometimes, and others help just take the story in a direction I completely did not expect. That said, this was another great entry into the series, and I can't wait to see what Max gets up to next!

Was there any proof reading?

Let’s get this out of the way: the story is good. But did anyone ever proofread it?!

Characters randomly change names. Words are randomly replaced by other words that sound similar to what would have been intended. Sentences occasionally turn around on themselves and repeat words.

Perhaps the book was dictated?

It needs an editor. Badly.

And the story is good, so I hope it gets one.

Flat Dialogue

This book felt very different than the others. Some of the dialogue was flat and robotic. Especially when things were being explained.

There was also an aspect of random power, abilities, or knowledge that came out of no where to save the day.

The whole book isn’t like this but it’s definitely a downgrade in quality from the previous 2 books.

The story is still very enjoyable and continues the plot in an entertaining direction.

great story but please edit more

Character names changing is just not ok! Don’t mean to just blast here but the story is so good it’s a real shame when immersion is broken because Saliron becomes Celerian (just one example).

Anyway, editing issues aren’t a deal killer but so easily avoided it’s a head scratcher they made it in the final version.

wow

I’m not always good at writing reviews and I feel bad about it. While this isn’t the most amazing life changing series that I talk about it does stand near the top. Not only is it well written with characters who have grown from book to book, but each and every one has had twists that seem to be missing from other litrpgs.

bit of a rollercoaster, but the ups & downs are worth it

Seems like Max is constantly starting over, not in a bad way, but the ups and downs in this book got me thinking of a roller coaster ride. Totally worth it, really enjoying the characters and with the new spirits, it’s like having a story within a story, truly amazing! Also really enjoying the audibles too!

Good story continues

A few grammatical and word errors only slightly impair a rather good story even if it does feel a bit scattered. The MC keeps powering up, but at a speed that is worrying for someone facing the expected Quartet backlash for his previous actions. Overall an enjoyable read.

Excellent

Excellent series with plenty of twists on several familiar storylines. Could hardly put the books down. Absolutely worth the read if you like isikai, sword and sorcery, magical/portal apocalypse, summoning/spiritual magic, lots of action and intrigue then you need to read this.

Bones

Saliron is the best. Love him! There are some editing ideas in the book and some weird plot holes (tiny ones that i won't spoil). I can't wait for the next book. I do wish for more progression stats and more progression of abilities. Max is awesome, and I can wait for what happens with him and Momo.

Max returns to earth and finds a right mess , lance is the man and recognises his debt to max and helps him , but the adjudicators are a dark shadow over everything and they aren't going to forget.

Great Stuff

This is a weird litrpg series as there is no stats page. The Mc has his own progression program from his previous life, but every one else is just guess work. At the end of this one he returns to his previous world. Can’t wait for the next book.

Amazing series

What a great set of books. A reverse protagonist, excellent characters, decent magic system and truly inspiring, and sometimes awful, spirits. What more could you ask for?
