Nessa

We thought it was over. We thought we had won. Then, our reality came crashing down around us. We thought we knew the enemy, but we were wrong. Now it’s not only our lives on the line, but many others. Will we have the power to save them all, or will the enemy catch up with us?

Cillian

If there’s one thing I know, it’s that the world is cruel. We have these ideas that karma will serve justice in the end, but what if it doesn’t? Well, let me tell you, that is where I come in. Someone once tried to take everything from me. I have no plans of letting that happen ever again.

Boris

Death is something I have witnessed my entire life. It is inevitable. But the loss of someone you love is different. It hurts in a way that cannot be put into words. It is bone-deep, all-consuming, and at times feels never-ending. As we all struggle to heal after losing someone we never knew could mean so much to us, we are also fighting a new battle. Can we survive this time or will it all go up in crimson flames?

This book is a DARK secret society romance. It contains graphic content of abuse, assault, and murder that some readers may be particularly sensitive to. One of my most anticipated reads of the year and it did not disappoint!! I'm gutted this series is over but Tay finished it beautifully 😍

"We may have survived, but I know none of us will ever be the same again."

“There is something final about death that will always leave an ache for those you cannot see on the other side.”

I honestly have no words for how this book made me FEEL ... I went through a whole rollercoaster of emotions 😭😱😢🥺🥹😬🙄🤣😅😍🥰 ... every single emotion!

Nessa is a absolute beast, everything she has been through ... she still manages to live ... not just survive but live! With the help of her found family 🥹

Cillian ... this man really brought it in this book! I liked him before but I absolutely adore him after this! He is hilarious, psychotic but also has a such a soft spot 🥰 I honestly would love a novella of him and Damien on an adventure cus when they are together I can't help but laugh out loud 🤣

Boris ... ohh my Daddy B I really felt for him in this ... he works on his trauma and you really feel his pain!

Kai ... this boy fast became one of my faves in this book... I love his attitude and he gave as good as he got but at the same time his need to protect is overwhelming. I think I laughed more at/with him than any of the others in this 😂

Tay as always brought top tier mental health and trauma rep! It wasn't washed over or in the background.... it was at the forefront of everyone and it wasn't a quick fix! It felt real, it made you feel what they felt and helped in understanding that some things you just can't fix

I'm going to stop rambling now as I could ramble all day about these books 😅

Thank you Tay for still having me on your team and accepting my bestie @mortal_reader to you team too so I can buddy read and we can share our pain, tears and enjoyment together... I can't wait to see where your writing takes you next 🥰

I'm so sad that this series has come to an end, but what an incredible ending it was.

Once again T.R. Oldin has managed to make me feel every single type of emotion known to man (and woman and others) while reading one of her books.
I knew it was going to be painful after the ending of Crimson Tears but I wasn't ready for that level of pain. My heart was torn out and ripped into shreds only to later be put back together and feel all warm and fuzzy. I've sobbed, I've laughed and I've been very angry and happy.

As with all her other books, I absolutely love the way trauma is dealt with. It feels like a therapy session for the soul and makes you feel so validated and supported even if you haven't gone through exactly the same things as the characters have. I've never read a book that deals with all the hard stuff so will, and I don't think I ever will.

I also really loved the action scenes. Cillian and Damien really stepped up in this one amd I love how they're brains work in similar (and very chaotic) ways.

Speaking of characters:
✧ Cillian has become my favourite man in the Mafie universe. He's so chaotic yet so caring. I love him to bits 🔥
✧ Kai also managed to steal my heart and I can't wait to read more about him in potential future books 👀
✧ Nessa is now one of my new favourite female characters. She's so strong and smart and brave, and takes no sh*t from anyone. I wish to be more like her ❤️
✧ And finally Boris. I just want to give him a big hug and let him know everything will be okay 🐻

I absolutely loved all the other characters from the series. I want to be part of this strange family they've formed.

A big thank you again to T.R. Oldin and her team for delivering another spectacular book. I'm so excited to see what you come up with after this and support you along the way.

“I could eat you all damn day. If you want slow, I’ll make it last forever.”

ARC Review: After losing someone they love, Nessa, Boris and Cillian must figure out how to move forward in life, as a couple and in their mafia lifestyle. Just when they start to get things moving in the right direction, they discover there is another piece on the chess board that they didn’t account for and it threatens everything they’ve built together.

“Do you want to take both of our c-cks at the same time? We could make you so full your body would never question its purpose again.

Book Rating: 5/5
Steam/Spice: 4/5
Tropes:
- dark romance
- mafia
- secret society
- found family
- MFM / why choose
- trauma healing
- mental health rep
- bondage / toys
- PTSD
- multiple POV

“You without scars is like a blank canvas. It tells no stories, has no purpose.”

“Say please” he taunts.
“Please f-ck me before I kill you.” she replies.

Final Thoughts: This book picks up where the first one left off and as they work through their new found trauma and new ‘normal’ after the rescue, they realize their work isn’t done yet. After reading all of TR’s books to date, I can say this one had me in my feelings the most. I know how well TR can write spicy scenes and mafia stories with badass women, but damn she pulled at my heart strings in this one (in the best way). The trauma, sad moments and healing were so beautifully written and heartfelt, and although these 3 have been through SO much, I loved the way things ended for them as a family. I also really loved seeing other side character POVs that have been involved throughout this duet and even the Mafie series as they place critical side character roles in this book.

Once again, T.R. Oldin has knocked it out of the park with Crimson Flames. I knew this book in particular was going to hit hard, and it almost brought me to tears. I am not one who easily shows emotion, so I was pleasantly surprised when I got misty eyed. That being said, please, please check the trigger and content warnings before reading.

Daddy B - I love the amount of emotional growth he has during this book. I knew his love for Nessa would never falter, but he needed to believe in himself as well. The fact that he was already aware of his mistakes or shortcomings when raising Alexi and then acknowledging and explaining why he did that shows amazing growth as well.

Nessa - she has been through so much. Even though she has had so much taken from her, she has also gained so much more in her life. I loved that she was able to heal not just through therapy sessions but also using alternative methods.

Kai - so smart, so protective, and such a smart ass. I feel so protective of Kai. He just wants to be there and protect those he cares for in any way acceptable. I love how he immediately goes with his gut and voices that feeling to others.

Cillian - of all the characters from the Mafie world Taylor created, Cillian is my 1000% favorite. Sorry Damien, his Deadpool-like 4th wall breaks are *chefs kiss* There is something about the Irish accent that trumps any other, in my opinion.

This book seriously had me in my feels and then cackling out loud the next second. I honestly love how Taylor normalizes therapy, kink, loss, and all forms of relationships and love.

I am sad to see the Mafie World go, but I am excited for the new ventures Taylor has in store for us.

The way I seriously could not stop reading Crimson Flames bc it’s so good!!!! CF is book 2 of the Brutally Broken Duet and I loved every second of it! I mean, I went through all the emotions humanly possible, cried my eyes out and was on the edge of my seat most of the time but still, I loved it!
Piece of advice, prepare your tissues with this one… chapter 14 had me basically sobbing, it was just so heartbreakingly beautiful!!! 🥹

“𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒑𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒅,” 𝑰 𝒂𝒅𝒅. “𝑨𝒏𝒅 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒃𝒆𝒂𝒖𝒕𝒚 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒃𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒔𝒐 𝒑𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒕.”

Nessa and her men, Boris and Cillian go through a lot in this second book and omg my heart broke for them so many times! 😭 Nessa is such a fighter, I absolutely love her! After everything she’s been through, she pulled herself together and found the strength to be there for her family and the others who needed her. She’s a badass!

“𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒔𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒔 𝒊𝒔 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒂 𝒃𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒌 𝒄𝒂𝒏𝒗𝒂𝒔. 𝑰𝒕 𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒔 𝒏𝒐 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔, 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒏𝒐 𝒑𝒖𝒓𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒆.” 𝑰 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒃𝒆𝒈𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒎𝒚 𝒑𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒔, 𝒎𝒚 𝒆𝒚𝒆𝒔 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒔. “𝑰𝒕 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒃𝒆 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒏𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒔.”

And Kai… omg, Kai has my whole heart, no questions asked. I can’t wait to see if there’ll be a book for him in the future and I really really hope so, especially with the little hints left in the book about him and some other characters… I’m so invested already!!! Can’t wait!!!

'So many people judge my life, but they have no idea what I have had to do to survive.'

If I didn’t have a soul that consisted of just a black space, then this book would have chewed me up, spat me out and swallowed me whole all at the same time. I’ve been with these characters since they were first put onto paper and born from the brain of T.R.Oldin, and I am not ready to say goodbye in the slightest. This book was about grief. Grief and love and the family you find along the way. The people you choose to love, who choose to love you. Not out of obligation or because you’re blood. Because you’re you.

As Nessa, Cillian and Boris deal with the tragedies they’ve experienced since book 1, it soon becomes clear that they all have different ways of coping. Whilst they’ve saved 10’s of kids, they start off feeling like they failed at the one thing they should have been able to do.

As their relationship with Kai progresses, and the kids find new families, they learn there are more out there. And that the person they thought was behind this atrocity, isn’t actually the person they thought it was and Nessa must fight against past demons in order to save them all.

No review could do this book justice. None at all. But watching these guys finally get their happily ever after was everything I needed and more.

And the little surprise at the back was just *chef’s kiss*. As always the spice is next level coming from this author, always testing the boundaries and limits of her characters, but always with a safe word in play.

After the tremendous loss Nessa, Boris, Cillian, and the rest of their family experienced in the first book of the duet, how can they move on, especially when they find out how much left they still have to accomplish? Throughout the first part of the book, the readers get to grieve alongside them (I can count on one hand the times I have cried while reading, and Crimson Flames got me- especially when Kai leads some of the people they saved to the flame). Then, they have to get to back to business: there are still more kids to save. I love that we get to see the introduction of Kai and how he fits into the family. One of my favorite things about this series is that we still get to see chapters from other characters, but Kai’s have become some of my favorites. He has such a unique role to fill, and he finally has people he can lean on- but also who will protect him. The whole family has been through the unimaginable and deserves their joint happiness, which they have all fought, bled, and sweat for. I tried to drag reading this book out as much as possible, just because I am not ready to leave this world for the time being. If you are like me, thankfully there is a little more coming on 9.30.24 with Devil in Disguise. Please check the content notes before starting this series, as it is darker.

T.R Oldin never fails me and Crimson Flames was an amazing end to a wonderful duet. To say I was wrecked by these two books in so many ways is an understatement; the emotional pain, the spicy heat, and the action/tension were a rollercoaster ride and I’m so sad to say goodbye to these characters.

My god, Nessa is one of the strongest woman I’ve read. Her trauma, pain and emotion in the beginning of this book literally had me a crying mess. I was wrecked by her pain and I could feel my own heart breaking for her and her men. Speaking of, Cillian and Boris’ heartbreak was staggering and the ways they expressed their pain was heartbreaking.

I loved Kai’s addition in this book and seeing the growth and recovery of these sweet kids. Kai’s integration with the trio was seamless and I absolutely adored every scene with him!

Okay, but that spice, my goddd. Tay went for it on this one and some of these scenes will live rent free in my mind forever. Plus, I’ll never look at watermelon the same way again 😏.

Dive into book two immediately if you haven’t already, and if you’ve never enjoyed the world of Mafie and all these amazing characters, start at the beginning with Mafie Trials!

T.R. Oldin warned me that this was going to be emotional and I said it can’t be that bad…well I was wrong😂 I sobbed pretty much every chapter! The beginning tore me apart and everything was just so real and you feel every single thing the author wants you to feel for the characters, she did an incredible job with every detail to really suck you in. I couldn’t even put this book down, it was quite long and I finished it within two days, that’s clearly saying something.
I’m so glad they found Kai, they deserved him and the scene where Kai saved Nessa and then she’s mad that he knows how to use weapons, kinda feel like that’s me as parent😂 should I be mad that someone taught you how to throw knives because that’s dangerous or glad you do because you saved me??
I love the dynamic between them, they fit so perfectly and I’m glad they finally figured it out because they had some rough patches in the first book. I loved the spicy scenes because it explored so many different ways you could emotionally and physically connect with your partner. Yes, there was a lot of crying, but there was a lot of happy moments too so don’t worry. I also love how she is a huge mental health rep and Dr.K is one of my fav characters!
This is book two of the Brutally Broken Duet, definitely start with the first one Crimson Tears and if you really want to understand everything start with the Brutal Boys of the Mafie series, it all connects. She does a great job reintroducing everyone, but I still feel like you should read it all to get the full picture.

I knew that at least the beginning of this book was going to make me cry because of how Crimson Tears ended. However…I was not prepared to cry for the entire first 16%, not to mention tearing up and shedding some tears periodically through the rest of the book. Don’t let that scare you away though! Because even though there is pain, heartache, and sorrow, this book is also filled with revenge, love, laughter, and spice.

I love these characters so much and watching them grow into this close knit, amazing, and supportive family was just everything I could have wanted. While I love all of the characters, Cillian is still my favorite (and still tied with Damien as my favorites in this world as a whole) because I just love his mischievous side so damn much.

I haven’t been reading as much lately, but even when I didn’t feel like it, if I picked up my kindle to read some of this, I couldn’t put it down. This book grabbed me by the throat and wouldn’t let go. And let’s be honest, I didn’t want it to. And while I’m sad to say goodbye to this world for now, I’m beyond excited to see what Taylor is going to gift us with next!

**Book Review: 5/5 Stars**

T.R. Oldin has now established herself as one of my top 5 authors with the like of Sarah J Maas and Rebecca Yarros but with much more spice (which I absolutely love)
This gripping part 2 novel continues to pull readers into a fast-paced and emotionally charged journey where survival, revenge, and the weight of loss intertwine. Told from three distinct POV’s —Nessa, Cillian, and Boris—the narrative delivers a powerful blend of action, suspense, and raw emotion. And spice people. Let’s not forget the spice!!!!!!
Each character has their own unique voice, shaped by personal trauma, as they confront an unpredictable enemy and grapple with inner demons. The pacing is relentless, the stakes impossibly high, and the character development profound. Themes of love, loss, and the harsh reality of a cruel world resonate deeply, making this a must-read for fans of intense, character-driven stories.
An enthralling and heart-wrenching tale from start to finish!
And hot hot spice.. did I mention that already!!
An absolute must-read

These characters have literally been through hell and back and I’m happy to see them finally get their happily ever afters. But I’m sad this is the end of the Mafie world. This whole series has been a painful but beautiful, bittersweet journey.

I love Nessa so much. She’s fierce, she’s loyal, and she loves with everything she has. Plus she’s a total badass in action! My heart was in shreds for her and her guys in this duet. But I loved how they chose each other and worked through their trauma “𝖙𝖔𝖌𝖊𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖗” showing just how strong love really can be.

I was sad to see the end of these amazing characters. I’ve cherished all the crossovers and moments where we get Evie, Laney and their men. It is definitely bittersweet.

This duet shares a lot of heartbreak and loss, but also brings together a love between Cillian, Boris and Nessa that is full of challenges, tears, blood and compassion. They fight together and overcome together while one loss brings new beginnings.

The villain will stop at nothing to bring war and get Nessa all to himself, but one things is certain this secret society won’t back down from a fight.

Don’t worry you’ll still get some steamy spice that will have you fanning yourself. TR Oldin always knows how to bring the heat.

While I highly recommend reading from the start where these crossover characters start with Mafie Kings, it’s not necessary. This is MFM and has dark themes with trigger warnings that should be read first.

Please read responsibly!

Wow. Just wow.
First off. TAYLOR did it again. But did we expect anything less? I really REALLY appreciated you ripping my heart out and stomping on it.... Buuuuut at least you picked it up put it back together in the end ♥️
Secondly. I can't believe our Mafie family has finally found some peace. It makes me so happy to see how everything played out.

But guys really, just expect to cry, then scream, then cry cry cry some more, then squeal, possibly throw your phone/book/kindle, giggle, maybe cry some more. And finally smile because HEA.
You get all the kinks, schemes, pew pew action, drama, explosions, and sexy time you could want in Crimson Flames.

Thank you Taylor and team for giving me the chance to read this book and the "ending" of the Mafie World (hopefully only for now).

CAN'T WAIT FOR THE SUPER SECRET SURPRISE YOU LEFT AT THE END 👀😈🎪

I don’t think I could have felt more satisfied with an ending than I did with Crimson Flames. T.R. Oldin managed to make me an emotional mess while also giving me the greatest feeling of love throughout these pages. Each character has you so deeply invested and you can’t wait to turn the page to see what happens next. Cillian and absolutely my favorite but Boris definitely has a special place in my heart too. Their love and respect for Nessa is definitely what relationships to be like. And Kai oh my goodness this kid. Ahhh I just love him to pieces. I highly recommend this entire series. Thank you T.R. Oldin for bringing me on this journey in the Mafie world.

Omg!!! In true TR fashion, Nessa’s duet ended with a bang! This book was all about healing and TR wrote it so beautifully. I loved watching these characters grow and the found family is EVERYTHING! The way my heart will always be these characters. It was such a beautiful ending to Mafie…. For now 🤭 This one focused on more of the trauma healing versus spice, but it’s TR. OFCOURSE, she is going to give you top tier spice along with the healing! I can’t wait to see what the future holds! Pre Order you copy today!

I first want to acknowledge the amazing amount of trauma informed care that has gone into this. **please check trigger warnings**

This is the end of the brutal era. Literally was broken and just felt so deep… until everyone learned from the trauma and leaned on each other. Stronger. Together.

After reading the brutal boys and brutal babes, this has been such a long and amazing series. It was hard getting through this one knowing it was the end. I was happy to see Nessa gland her growth through out the series, and find her place in this world with Boris and Cillian.

Okay!

Wow the second book did not disappoint, so sad that this series is over. I love all these characters/world so much!

This book was dark, emotional, spicy and everything that I hoped it would be and MORE! 🙌

T.R. Oldin knows how to deliver and kept me on my toes the whole time. I don't know what is next, but you can guarantee imma eat it up 🖤

Although I'm going to have book hangover from this one for the foreseeable future, run don't walk!

You want a book that has you sobbing the first 20ish % then look no further!
Oh man my heart went through it at the beginning.
We get back to Nessa, Cillian and Boris and Nessa is in the hospital.

The heartbreak these three had to go through was cruel.
Nessas life was never easy and she was soon to be up against her hardest battle yet.

Oh sweet baby Kai was the little hero for everyone in so many ways!

I am still so obsessed with this found family. I love how deeply interconnected the series is as each character gets to come back and help the family. TOGETHER ALWAYS 🖤

Crimson flames

Ugh I said I wasn't gonna cry and it was a lie. Yet again Taylor brings out every emotion. And this one is a double. Just the story is amazing and I loved every minute of the emotions I felt but also it's the end of this series and it's so bitter sweet.

Nessa, Boris and Cillian are absolutely a favorite and I loved seeing everything they go thru and getting to their ending. I couldn't ask for a better conclusion.

Wow! I absolutely loved this ending to Nessa’s duet. The beginning of the book took me through an emotional wringer. The trauma these characters have been through is daunting. I am still impressed with the emphasis on therapy and mental health that T.R. Oldin has in the books. Kai just stole the show for me. He really brings the whole family together. The spice was perfect. I loved how there were so many points of views. I can't wait to read more from T.R.

5 🌟 (want else do we expect by this stage) 2.5 🌶️

F U for making me cry so much, sad tears, then happy tears, I couldn’t keep up.

Do I actually hate it though… no of course not, I loved every second and more

Had some amazing laughs in between, the banter between the boys is like no other. The spicy scenes are exactly as we expect, so well detailed and absolutely deserved for what we get put through with our emotions, lower amount in this book but no less of an epic story

Still trying to wrap my head around the fact this world has ended.

I’ve been lucky enough to arc each book but the first. And I’m just in awe. While my heart hurts and crimson flames broke me (haven’t cried like that in a hot minute) and I can’t be happy at with the HEA while perfect, ya girl is struggling.

I didn't want it to end!!!

This series, this created world, is just amazing. I have laughed, cried, and enjoyed myself thru it all.

Crimson Flames had so many memorable moments.
The flame tattoos & the bracelets absolutely had me in all my emotions.
This family really came together & it was amazing to watch them grow in their love for each other. Boris especially changed my opinion of him - and gave Cillian an actual bit of competition for my heart!

The bonus : DEVIL IN DISGUISE was a perfect ending

Read this series
Read it ASAP!

I couldn't really get in to it... I felt it dragged and dragged... I felt Nessa's pain with her, with them, but I also felt like they were bringing the story to its knees with the lack of improvement...

Be sure to get your tissues ready. AFTER you check TWs. No seriously I say that a lot but this book you absolutely need to.
This book is a beautiful, heartache, that I can’t put down read. There were a few twists that I didn’t see coming and that just made the book better. The spice was beautifully written as always

T.R. Oldin warned us this would be an emotional book and she do be delivering! Get ready for all the emotions!
Make sureeee you read Crimson tears first, better yet start at the Mafie books, the beginning, to get you to understand and fall more in love with her characters.
The way she writes really pulls you in and makes you fall in love with the characters and I truly wish I was part of this world.

Kai and Nessa relationship was so cute! I was wondering how it would all work out. I don’t want to spoil anything…

You should definitely check your trigger warnings before starting this book. Again, love Dr.K and the mental health/therapy scenes. I hope Dr. K gets her own book! Love her!

Also the spice always deliversssssss! Thank you for that!

I love Nessa and I loved this second book a lot!
