Amazon #3

Amazon Chief

Rate this book
Spanning decades, Amazon Chief tells Beria's story beginning with her introduction to the Amazons through her times as a companion, eventually rising to village chief.

This is the third novel in the Amazon series, overlapping the events from Amazon Companion and Amazon Challenge, but told from Beria's point of view, then moving forward well past those events.

Amazon Chief is a long novel of 228,000 words, about half again longer than the previous books.

We visit our friends from Amazon Companion and Amazon Challenge: Maya and Malora of course, Nori, Omie and Vorine, Aura, Neela and Bea, and many others. We even spend time with Tamma and Lia, the girls from White Pine we met in Amazon Challenge. When we again meet Lia, she is a mother of two young girls.

There is love. There is loss. There is hope for the future of the Amazons.

OMG !!

When I first started to read this book and realized it was through the eyes of Beria, I was displeased. My experience with Beria in the first, but mainly the second book was warm at best. I didn’t take an immediate shine to her. She was just there to me as an anchor for and to her sister Maya.

When they went to Gallens Cove to recruit and possibly bring Beria back as an Amazon, it was then where I just couldn’t “feel” her. I thought they were going through way too much trouble to get her. Almost as much trouble as it took to “take” Maya. I also felt it out Omie in a desperate and begging situation. I guess, I just had issues with it.

Then Maya and Beria together. That was almost just a bit too much. It reminded me of Rani Karden and her niece Minori’s relationship from “The Privateer” series. . It is profoundly deep. Both characters are extremely intelligent and witty like our two mc’s. It can get a bit tedious and old at times. But it is also evident why that’s so important for the reader to know that under no circumstances that this is anything less than unconditional love.

I didn’t want to read this book because I knew it would no longer focus on just Queen Malora and Maya. One of my favorite love stories. So, Input it down for a couple weeks to read other books. I didn’t want to give it a chance. The opening went into even further detail about how Beria saw Maya being taken til she saw her sister again. She made it clear always that Maya took care of her ever since she was born. Once I got through most of the first 1/3 of the book. Something dawned on me.

This series the entire time was about Beria. It had to be. It never truly chronicled the life of Queen Malora nor Nori. Maya was a means to get to Beria. Maya was a means to anchor Beria into the woman and Amazon warrior she became. Beria was ALWAYS the main focus which caused Maya to be taken. She was selected. They already saw something in her. Maya alerted them that they were correct when she fought for her sister and would have died for her when she met Nori that fateful day.

As I read this story, I fell in love with Beria. I saw her grow and I admired who she became. I admired her loyalty, her honor, her grit, her clever mind, and her ability to see through it all. She had keen eyes and amazing interpersonal skills. She was able to read people so well. She helped me to understand Maya when at times I couldn’t. As Beria story unfolds I was left in awe of her even more than I was her sister.

I understand now what Queen Malora saw and why she made all the decisions that she did. She reminds me so much of Malora. I feel at most times they were one and the same. I cried so much during this book. I finally understood her and Omie better. I think that these three QUEENS will be legendary.

My first love will always lie with Queen Malora. I’m still in love with her. She is a master strategist that rules with love, compassion, and an ability beyond any mere human could. I would still choose her over Beria, but I have to admit, I have an undying love for her. Sort of like she does for Omie although she is in love with Lia.

This book, well the characters remind me also of Lara (Queen Malora) and Michaela (Maya). Both were captured and held captive and taken. And like Queen Malora, Lara had devoted and unconditional love for Michaela as did Malora for Maya. Read that series too, if you haven’t.

I will be reading them both again. Thank you for trying up loose ends and not leaving us hanging. I feel fulfilled. And thanks for all the laughing I was able to do. I was always surprised by Queen Malora’s humor and pranks. And not to be outdone by Beria’s with Lia. I laughed and laughed. And to know that Queen Malora can’t live forever, I was worried and also humored when she explained it all to Beria.

A book you will hate loving to finish

I couldn't put this series down. It's hard to say which book is my favorite. They are all different and paint the many perspectives needed to understand the Amazons and the people they protect.

I wasn't sure what to expect after the first two since I didn't read reviews on this one I loved the others so much I knew I could expect a well crafted, amazing tale with negligible typos.

In some ways, this last book will stay with me more. Possibly because I heard some of the story told through the eyes and mind of another. Or, it could be that it was the perfect conclusion to a brilliant and fresh series.

Completely original with characters you love, ones you learn to understand and reject, and ones you are relieved die.

If you want a fast paced story about family, love, honor, strife, and conflict, this is for you. If you like boring stories with simple, predictable plots, this isn't for you.

If you are intimidated by Amazons, pass but if you are intrigued with a thirst for action, unconventional companionships, comedic relief, and protecting those you love advice all else, you can't go wrong. This is a MUST read.

I get what she was trying to do with having it be in Maya's sister's POV, but this doesn't make sense. If she were going to do this I'd rather it be a joint POV between Maya and her sister, Beria. Also, didn't like that Beria and Ohma weren't allowed to be lovers after Beria was becoming a Warrior. I would've liked to have seen Beria get so angry at the male demon to the point she forces the demon to show itself in its True Form. Then kill it. I wasn't a fan of her taking in the voices and having to become a Warrior.

Great

I seem to have really fallen in love with the series. I do still notice some in consistency and there even appears to be the occasional mix up with the dialogue but other than that I really start to feel for these Amazon’s and their struggle. As much as I loved reading about Maya and Queen Malora in the first book I seem to enjoy this second one more. This one being the second installment seems to tug more at the heartstrings.

Great!!!

Great world building, i wouldn't mind other books written in similar fashion in which nearly the same story is told but from a different perspective. Some books don't manage to pull it off and it becomes dull and repetitive, but this book keeps you hooked!!!! Please write more sequels.

The only downside to this story was that there were so many characters that it wasn't smooth reading anymore in the sense that i had to stop and rethink at every name about which character was which. You know when you get confused about the relations with your relatives when you have to explain it to your friends. You know it inherently but when asked to explain you get tangled up in the explanation about who is who etc....

It was at 2am I finished this book.....

I waited to write this review simply because I was unable to put this story down. I have read all three novels back to back. The novels were very engrossing and I found the characters and storylines fascinating. I wanted to know what happened next, then next again. I was helpless to put it down. Wow what a fascinating story!

Good conclusion.

If you like 1st book of this series, you'll like this one. If you hated the writer, you'll hate it no matter what he wrote.
