Entire countries were destroyed when the nuclear war started. The vampires never wanted to reveal their existence, but they took control of the world to ensure that it survived.
Larissa lives a sheltered life in a small town, where she's grown to accept the life laid out for her. After the sudden tragic death of her mother, her sister, Lucianna, convinces her to move to London so they can both have a fresh start. She agrees, ignoring the warnings from those close to her.
Just as things start to go her way, Larissa's life is turned upside down by her new boss, Nik Dankworth. He is the deathly attractive Lord Vampire of the region, who has set his sights on her. As Larissa discovers the hidden world of supernatural creatures, she learns that the life she knew was nothing but a lie. A lie that threatens to destroy the newfound freedom, independence, and love that she's worked so hard for.
Can Larissa survive? Or will the secrets rip her life apart?
Oh my goodness! Where do I even begin. I loved this book.
This book has everything a fantasy reader loves - Vampires, Werewolves, Witches and of course spice 😏
I absolutely loved following Larissa on her journey to discovering who she really is and what she is capable of. The twist and turns were perfection and I’m one to usually have it all figured out, well not this time.
I am in love with Nik, we all need a bad ass, protective vampire in our lives. The sexual tension between these 2 definitely left you wanting more!
That cliff hanger though. I need book 2 like, now!!
When a book has twists and turns that I don't see coming, you know you have a great book! At the start, I wasn't sure what to expect. I liked the FMC Larissa, but she placated to everyone. When she finally decides to do something for herself, her life takes a turn. She meets Nik, the vampire she's so attracted to it didn't make sense. There are villains out to get her, a sister who is being a bitch and not only one but 2 men vying for her attention. The bread crumbs left throughout the book were fantastic, and the big twists were perfectly executed! Can't wait for the next book!
I really enjoyed this book, especially the intense sexual tension between Larissa and Nik. Their dynamic kept me hooked from the start. The surprise appearances of other characters and the unexpected plot twists had me constantly in shock. Just when I thought I had things figured out, the story would take a turn that left me wanting more. I can’t wait for book two of the Whispers in the Blood series! A huge thank you to S.K May for allowing me to be her beta reader and ARC reader. I highly recommend this—⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️! Perfect for fans of True Blood, Sookie Stackhouse and all things Vamps!
So, I am not typically a vampire loving girlie. BUT, the story of Nik and Larissa had me hooked from the get-go. The fast-paced storytelling kept me invested with unexpected twists and turns 😱 I also love a good mating bond love story! My first time reading SK May and after reading this in less than 24 hours, I am super keen for book number two 😱😱 ⭐ Vampires, witches, werewolves, past lives, hidden secrets, fated mates, spice ⭐
This book sure had the twist and turns hitting me from all angles. Just when I thought I might have this world figured out, another curveball was thrown my way. Suspense, lust, betrayal and the supernatural, I very much enjoyed everything this book had to offer. Nik and Larissa have this back and forth love/hate relationship which was entertaining and painful to read. With a headstrong FMC, it sure made for her love to be earned. Can’t wait for book two, especially with that cliffhanger.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Going into this story, I knew it was about vampires, and I haven’t read anything like that in years, so I was eager to sink my teeth in (pun totally intended). It’s not my usual read, and while the beginning was a little slow due to the world-building, once I hit the halfway mark, I was thoroughly invested. It ends on a cliffhanger, but lucky for me, I’ve already got the next two books waiting! A fun, intriguing read that completely drew me in!
4.7 stars! It's definitely a good read, but here an there some parts pissed me off, which isn't a bad thing at all. It just means it's getting my emotions involved in the book which i love when that happens as it means to me that im thoroughly enjoying it😅 I love the characters and the plot, jumped straight into the second book, disappointed I don't have the 3rd sitting there waiting, but it just means I've gotta see where I can buy it from 🙂
Whispers in the blood is a dark paranormal romance following the story of Larissa and her new found freedom, friendships and romance ♥️ Full of twists and turns, cliff hangers and spice 🔥 If you love sexy vampires and more this is the book for you 🩸
Thank you Simone for sending me this ARC, congrats on your book!
Ooooheee. I kind of knew I was in for an emotional roller-coaster, but Lord. The way breadcrumbs are dropped through the storyline to hint at the big reveals is amazing. Just enough to keep you turning those pages and going "I gotta knoooow".
Definitely some twists and turns I didn't see coming, but oof, that made them sooo much better. And Nik?! Far out brussel sprout. Broody, demanding, hotter than sin. Sign me up 👌
A new paranormal dark romance has just released! Full of slow burn romance, mystery, so many unexpected plot twists that will have you gasping!! I really enjoyed that everything was so unexpected. You never knew what was coming next! And this one had me on the “edge of my seat” so to speak nearly the whole time! Did I mention all the paranormal creatures! It has just the right amount of dark and light hearted scenes.
The world building, the action, the plot twists, mysteriousness, THE ROMANCE. Kept me enthralled from beginning to end.
And when I finally thought oh I know what’s going to happen next well you will be in for another Suprise! Larissa and Nik were definitely a treat to read about!! The development and tension between these two characters is amazing!
I can’t wait for the next book, I definitely 100% recommend this book! Run don’t walk and get this book ASAP! Also please beware of TW’s!
While Vampire Romance isn't my thing, I found this one enjoyable, it's well written, delivers plenty of tension between the FMC and MMC and the spice meter is rather high. It's a fated mates storyline so if you love vampires and fated mates, you'll absolutely love Whispers.
This book had me in a choke hold and I read it in 24 hours, could not put it down. Strong beautiful and caring FMC finds her way to London with her sister after her mother’s tragic death, but nothing would ever prepare her ( or us as the reader) for what she finds there. The writing is fast paced and electric keeping you wanting more , as you discover fated mates, delicious vampires with hot spice level, primal and protective strangers and of course , the faithful friend who is always there in a ‘ why choose’ triangle we all want to be in-between. They all seem to know her more than she knows herself, but why? Beyond all that the story line is detailed and impactful and I adore the universe the author has created where supernaturals come to power to save human kind from itself. I need book two NOW, as it ends on a cliffhanger I never saw coming, but to be fair I never saw most of the amazing twists and turns coming in this book. Run don’t walk, and get yourself a copy of this.

A story with great character development and plot twists you cant see coming!
Our FMC Larissa was a pushover at the start, always the peacekeeper of her family and always pandering to the wants and needs of her mother and sister. However, through the story she learned prioritise herself and opened her world to so many possibilities. Her sister, however, was a twat from the start and that did not change 🤦♀️
The way that thousands of years of ancient history was interwoven into the story and utilised to develop the lore, the characters and their backstories was amazing, and the obvious forward planning throughout the writing to create the plot twists that I didn't see coming, but in hindsight were so obvious combined to build a fantastic story!
100% recommended read, and I will be impatiently waiting for the next book to bring me down off the cliff it left me on!!!
Tropes: Enemies to Lovers, Fake Dating, Forced Proximity, Office romance, Arranged marriage, Love triangle, soulmates, age gap, stuck together, past lives, betrayal and redemption, workplace romance, fated mates, reunited lovers, love across time, reincarnated lovers, destined to be together
ARC Review of Whispers in the Blood by S.K. May * * * * * This is only the beginning of this supernatural twisted romance that comes with a few wild twists you are not prepared for.
Larissa is stuck in her small hometown with her mother and sister, knowing the dangers of the world and knows when to avoid them. That is until her world takes a spin when she loses someone she believed she could trust, but was really concealing secrets. Living in a world where the supernatural run everything, she was sure to be careful...that is until she is in the sights of a dark and handsome vampire. Kind of hard to escape him considering her current position. Nik will not let her go. They are bonded in a strange way. Their fates are tied together. She cannot escape it...no matter how much she tries and no matter who she believes she can trust.
We were given fair warning from the author on one of the twists on when it was to come, and even then you are still left with a dropped jaw. Family secrets and lies, a romance that Larissa was not prepared for and comes with an extra fun steamy package, a sister that really needs to deal with her shitck. We are also given a twisted history lesson into how Larissa is more than she appears, along with an epic cliffhanger that will have you wanting blood for the next book.
“Careful, Larissa, someone may see and believe you truly want this.”
Perfect for fans of The Vampire Diaries/The Originals, Whispers in the Blood is a post-apocalyptic fantasy romance that follows a centuries old war and the love it endlessly endures.
I’m a sucker for anything vampire related and this book did not disappoint. Let me tell you, I started this book thinking I knew what was going to happen; vampire meets human girl, he becomes obsessed and they live happily ever after. Instead, there’s so many twists and turns resulting in an intriguing tale that left me yearning for more.
The banter between Nik and Larissa was well-written and funny and I especially loved the use of the marriage of convenience trope hehehe
It was also refreshing that Larissa stood up to Nik constantly when he was being a jealous, possessive vampire male instead of having a two second fight scene, there was a push & pull with their relationship, a tug of war for power and balance.
If you’re in need of a vampire romance fix I highly recommend this book!
Thank you to the lovely S.K May for the ARC, cannot wait for book 2! ❤️🩸
I initially rated this book 4⭐️’s but 5 days later and I’m still thinking about the characters, the plot and the ending 😱!
This book had so many twists and turns that the moment you think you know something, you were definitely wrong. I was left guessing the whole way through and definitely had some “omg, what the f***” moments! Honestly this book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time!
Larissa the small town girl and Lord Nik the vampire 🔥 The tension, slow burn dialogue and character development between these too is divine!
If you’re into paranormal drama romance then what are you waiting for…. Run don’t walk. You will not be disappointed 🥰
I can’t not wait for Book 2….. please be more answers then questions, I beg you 🙏!
Favorite Quote/Saying:
““Oh, so you want to get beaten by a girl?” “I never mind if a girl ends up on “
“I do not care about that. Every touch of yours makes me feel alive. Every kiss burns a mark on my soul, and yet, all I crave is more of it. I just want you.”
There was a lot about this book that I enjoyed. Lots of twists and turns, I’m always going to love a possessive vampire MMC and a feisty FMC (even though she was incredibly irritating at times). Their story was a little bit Fifty Sahdes with less sex and much more yearning and Meliodas and Elizabeth from seven Deadly Sins.
Unfortunately, I felt that there were some holes and pacing issues. It often felt like there was so much story trying to be crammed in, that I found myself confused and wondering how on earth we got here. There was a bit of a miscommunication trope which I really dislike but it was more of a lack of communication - when they say they “just can’t” tell the other what’s happening.
The positives though, there is a lot of backstory still to dive into and a huge desire to know how and why things happened the way they did. I loved the sprinkling of Roman history and would love to learn more about the witches.
The author has set us up for what looks to be a thrilling sequel (hopefully with some answers that I am dying to know).
"It was my own screams that startled me awake, and it was always the same dream."
I had to know more about what was going to happen and how the dream would play out in this book.
Larissa and Lucianna being bought up as siblings were of the belief Vampires are a danger to their kind. Being that they live in the small town they don't know any different. When their mother is killed in their home things begin to change. When they want to move to the big city of London things become even more strange for the sisters.
Tropes: Slow burn, office romance, second chance romance, age gap, fake dating, fake marriage, fated mates, reunited lovers, reincarnated lovers, magical creatures, vampires, witches, magical realism, shape shifters, found family, chosen family, rebellion against authority.
Triggers: Hate for vampires and shifters, kidnapping, staking, bullying, death, grief, gore blood, magical killing.
Whispers in the Blood - I went into this book only knowing it was about a vampire and a girl called Larissa.
From the tone and pace at the start, I expected a cosy country/small-town romance with a vampire twist, where they'd find each other, fall in love, and live happily ever after.
Well, I was in for a surprise!
I was instantly drawn into this richly built world, where vampires and humans navigate a complex society. The story follows two sisters as they leave behind everything familiar and step into a world filled with new dangers and possibilities.
The side characters, Alina and Travis, were absolute standouts. I would have loved to see more of them!
The story maintains a steady rhythm, blending moments of everyday life with hints of romance, longing, and deep connections. Just when I thought I had a sense of where things were headed, unexpected twists kept me completely hooked.
The subtle foreshadowing was beautifully woven in, and that ending? Absolutely gripping!
"I'm not sure I know the correct words, but it would be like crack to an addict. It would be all they could think about until they had just one little taste."
This book..... Just amazing.
We follow Larissa on her journey from moving from a small town outside of London to moving to the big city itself. She finds herself in an unknown world and needs to work out how to support herself in her new journey, until one day she bumps into a talk dark and ble eyed man, who steals her breath away and is fucking sexy!
This story has so many twists and bombshells to keep you wanting more. And let's say the tension between the 2 MCs is just amazing.
It's time to get hooked and sink your teeth in.
* I was lucky enough to be accepted as an advance reader, and I have also had the privilege to be a beta for book 2 of the series. P.s. No spoilers from me.
I was thankful enough to be an ARC reader for Whispers in the Blood.
This book has twists and turns a plenty. What I enjoyed most about this book is how we follow Larissa’s story, through trials and tribulations. She is indeed a strong character, with lots of tenacity and strength, but a soft human side as well. The romantic elements are certainly bountiful, and for those who love romantasy this is a book I am sure you will devour. Personally, I would have loved to have explored a little more of the deeper lore and dystopian elements that were set up in the premise of the book - being how the vampires appeared after a nuclear war. But that is the dystopian fan in me!
Overall, this novel is laden with dark romance and twists, something that will keep the reader guessing and no doubt wanting more.
Firstly a huge thank you to @skmayauthor for sending me your ARC of Whispers of the Blood. I enjoyed your book so much!! It took me back to my Twilight and True Blood days! It’s a captivating read that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The writing has you immersed in a world where vampires, werewolves and witches exist, filled with complicated characters and jaw dropping plot twists.
The sexual tension between Larissa, who lives a sheltered life in a small town and Nik, a hot AF lord Vampire is beyond👌🏼🧛 Who doesn’t love a vampire tale of fated mates 🩸
If you love a modern supernatural romance I highly recommend this book!!!!!
I really tried with this one made it to 52% and I’m done. Reasons - fmc is irritating -communication in this book is robotic/ sentences are broken down. -fmc is up and down with her personality/ one min she’s virginal & I don’t know how too… next min she jumping men idk - I don’t care for love triangles but this girl is getting on between two guys and doesn’t bat an eyelash after one of em telling her she there soul mate very confusing. Is it cheating idk. - pretty much nothing really happens in this 52% besides being doted on & damsel in distress mode. - the relationship between her and her sister very toxic and not believable tbh very childish.
An absolute great read that keeps you on your toes. Believe It or not I was not triggered by the kidnapping, bullying or blood. I was more triggered by Larissa’s passive demeanor. Larissa lives in the shadows being guilted into staying at home with her overprotective mom, while her sister lives a carefree life. However tragedy strikes this small town and Larissas life is turned upside down.
Whisper in the Blood has been the best introduction to the paranormal world. I’m a hardcore dark romance reader but SK May’s Whispers in the Blood has definitely left an imprint on me. I can’t wait for the release of book 2.
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC for this book and after months of sneak peeks and edging from the author on her booksta it did not disappoint. Strong FMC? Check Fated mates? Check Vampires and magic? Check Plot twists you didn’t see coming? Check
I sped through this book and could not put it down, I was constantly going “what the hell? Oh my god!!” Throughout the read and oh my god what the hell!! The ending!!! I need book two right now!! 😩
Imagine a world where humans did it the sent the bombs, and destroyed half the world!! But vampiers came out of the dark and took over to stop humanity from dying out.
Such a unique idea, now add a crap tune of plot twist, secrets, lies, seduction, sex, love and loss!
A kick as book that will have you second guessing everything, with twist and turns that will leave you saying WTF!
And some delicious spice! Who does no love vampiers and a little blood play 🥵
I received a digital copy of this book to read via an ARC sign up.
Whispers in the Blood gave me Vampire Diaries feels, with generations old vampires set in a modernistic world.
While I had a good time reading the book, I found that I was left wanting to know more world building and origins, a bit of background if you like. It was very character driven, which also left me wanting more of the story/plot rather than the main focus on the relationships.
Intriguing blend of dark secrets and family drama with an atmospheric and emotional story, layered characters and some great twists. The darker tone adds a lot to the story, and while it didn’t totally blow me away, it’s a solid, enjoyable read with a lot to offer. Looking forward to reading Book 2.
