🔮 Paranormal Mystery 🔀 Plot Twist 🫶 Workplace Family ✨ Hidden Abilities 🕯️ Secret Supernatural Society
I loved every part of this book, so much so that I just had to jump right into book 2 immediately after finishing this one!
Linda is an executive administrator who was recently laid off. Six months later, she mysteriously receives an email about a potential job interview and, after some hesitation, decides to schedule a call.
The interview is like every other; the only difference is that this isn’t a normal job. She would be hired as an Executive Administrator for supernatural creatures. Trusting her gut, she takes the job and plunges into a new world filled with vampires, werewolves, and other magical creatures!
If you love a good, lighthearted who-done-it mystery with a twist, this short read is for you! This book is a culmination of Linda’s thoughts and perspective, and you almost feel as if you’re the new employee at the OPT Agency.
Thank you so much to The Nerd Fam and Janelle Seegmiller for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!
This was such a fun and refreshing read. I loved the contemporary fantasy setting mixed with a corporate environment and it felt unique and really easy to get into.
Linda is a very relatable main character, especially at the start, and I enjoyed watching her grow as she’s thrown into a world of vampires and supernatural chaos. The relationships between coworkers felt natural, and the mystery kept me engaged throughout.
The pacing was a little slower in the beginning, but once the story picked up, it was hard to put down.
Overall, a really enjoyable start to the series and I’m excited to continue. Thanks to the nerd fam for the gifted omnibus.
This book was interesting. It wasn't full of a lot of action in this book. Mostly because it's the first in the series and the MC Linda is an administrative assistant and her job doesn't require a lot of action. There are supernatural beings in the series but more in the last half. It definitely had its intense moments though. I would say for the first book it was pretty good. I started the second book and it picks up right where the first left off.
What a fun introduction to a world that is a mix of corporate culture and the supernatural.
it took me a minute to find my groove in this novel, but once I found it, I devoured it. I adored going along the ride with Linda and trying to solve the mystery.
There are so many little Easter eggs on what we can expect from subsequent stories, and I cannot wait to find out a little bit more about Linda and the OTP staff!
Everything you want in escapist fiction: plausible yet fantastical storyline, relatable characters, great plot that keeps you coming back, and overall good times. One that you can’t wait to get back. Really enjoyable.
No, really. I wanted to switch places with her. Her name is literally part of mine, and I am ready to pack my bags and clock in at her supernatural office immediately. 🥹✨
This book was everything I wanted — fantastical, grounded yet magical. It felt like fantasy for the corporate girlies. The kind where you’re fired on Monday and working with vampires by Friday. 🧛♂️💼
Linda had been laid off from her office job and was spiraling through the all-too-real desperation of unemployment. She kept applying, refreshing her inbox, wondering what came next — something painfully relatable in today’s world. When a mysterious interview request landed in her inbox, it felt like a lifeline.
And then… it became something so much bigger. 👀
The job offer promised stability. It delivered vampires, sirens, werewolves — and an entire hidden supernatural community operating in plain sight. Instead of learning basic onboarding procedures, Linda had to learn about blood contracts and otherworldly politics. And when a vampire went missing? The “normal” nine-to-five officially died. 🔍🩸
I loved how the plot unfolded like layers of an office mystery thriller wrapped in urban fantasy. The onboarding process mirrored her emotional transition — from lost and insecure to curious, brave, and increasingly capable. Every new reveal pulled me deeper in. I genuinely couldn’t wait to get back to it each time I put it down. 📖✨
The relationships were such a highlight. They felt natural. Banter-filled. Warm. Sometimes tense. Watching Linda navigate her new colleagues — each one delightfully cool and chaotic in their own supernatural way — gave me so much joy. The dialogue sparkled. The worldbuilding felt lived-in. The characterisation? Fantastic. 🖤
And the mystery thread running throughout the book kept the stakes high without ever losing the fun. I was on edge, but I was also having the best time.
This was the kind of story that made me sigh happily and immediately open book two. It was comfort reading with bite. 🧛♀️💫
Perfect for fans of: 🏢✨ Corporate girl in a magical world 🧛♂️ Supernatural workplace chaos 🔍 Ongoing mystery subplot 💼 Fish-out-of-water FMC finding her strength 🗣️ Sharp, witty dialogue 🖤 Found family vibes 🌆 Urban fantasy hidden in plain sight 📚 Escapist but relatable storytelling
I adored this. Fully. Emotionally. Enthusiastically.
Thank you so much to Janelle Seegmiller and The Nerd Fam for giving me the opportunity to review the omnibus of this series! I’m already deep into book two and refusing to leave this world anytime soon. 💜✨
Otherworldly Onboarding, the first book in the Otherworldly Admin trilogy, offers a cosy paranormal mystery with an engaging premise. The story follows Linda, a recently laid-off legal administrator whose prolonged and unsuccessful job search leads her to a mysterious interview with the elusive OPT Agency. Despite having no memory of applying for this job and finding no trace of the company online, with her savings rapidly dwindling, she decides she’s got nothing to lose except possibly an hour or two of her time, only to discover at her interview that the company is in fact a detective agency unlike any other. One where their clientele consists of supernatural clients, including vampires, werewolves, and witches. Though initially sceptical, the salary offered is more than good and so she hesitantly accepts the position out of necessity.
The novel begins at a measured pace, focusing heavily on world-building and character introductions. Linda comes across as a lonely character with not much in her life, her only companion a cat that merely tolerates her. As she settles into her new role, she’s introduced to her new colleagues, a small and close-knit team who appear to be human on the surface, though there are hints that not all is as it appears, particularly when it comes to the ever-efficient cook and housekeeper Mrs Clark. While initially engaged on doing background checks on wannabe werewolves, the story soon picks up momentum with the introduction of a case involving the kidnapping of a newly turned (although they call it ‘adopted’) vampire, drawing Linda - and readers - deeper into its supernatural world. As the investigation deepens, the mystery surrounding the missing vampire intensifies, building towards in an unexpected twist, one that, while hinting at a larger overarching plot across the trilogy, might have long term repercussions for Linda as she begins to realise that her new role, and her place within the agency, may be far more significant than she initially believed. Talk about an eventful first week in her new job!
There’s a particular kind of magic in stories that take the ordinary and quietly twist it sideways and The Otherworldly Admin leans all the way into that idea. What makes this book stand out isn’t just its supernatural cast, but how unapologetically it centers administrative work as the backbone of chaos control.
Linda Moss is not your typical fantasy heroine and that’s exactly the point. Her entry into the OPT Agency reframes the genre by asking: what if the most powerful person in the room isn’t the vampire… but the one managing their calendar?
The transition from corporate admin to supernatural fixer is handled with a grounded realism that makes the world feel believable. Scheduling conflicts, documentation, and research aren’t treated as background noise they’re weaponized tools. Watching Linda apply corporate logic to volatile supernatural politics is one of the book’s strongest hooks.
The missing vampire case gives the story its pulse, but the real tension comes from the layered power structures. The rules around vampire adoption tied to blood, influence, and hierarchy add a sharp political edge that elevates the narrative beyond simple mystery.
The supernatural world here isn’t romanticized fluff. It’s bureaucratic, strategic, and sometimes unforgiving. Every move has consequences, and the OPT Agency operates in that gray space where diplomacy and damage control collide.
The Otherworldly Admin thrives on contrast mundane vs magical, order vs chaos, human vs supernatural and never lets one overpower the other. It’s a story that respects the quiet strength of organization in a world that constantly threatens to spiral out of control.
Thank you to The Nerd Fam @thenerdfam for the 3 gifted eARCs. #theotherworldlyadminseries #thenerdfam “The Otherworldly Admin Series” (# 1, 2, 3) by Janelle Seegmiller ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Genre: Cozy Urban Fantasy. NOTE: LGBTQIA + inclusive. My name is Linda, I lived in Seattle, and I love these books about another Linda in Seattle! THE SERIES: Seattle admin professional Linda leaves a boring job to work for the OPT. Now she manages vampires, witches, and others, solves magical mysteries, faces Council politics, and mixes supernatural cases with office work. BOOK 1 “Otherworldly Unboarding” Linda’s OPT job leads to a secret world of supernatural beings. She learns her new role while investigating a missing vampire. WHAT A GREAT START TO A SERIES! BOOK 2 “Magic, Meetings, and Murder” Linda helps solve a witch's murder, while dealing with a possible new supernatural, a pre-vampire coworker, and the scary Council. AND THE GREAT START CONTINUES! BOOK 3 “Demons, Databases, and Danger” Linda is loaned to the Council, secretly investigates her mom's death, and has scary visions. YES! Except I’m sad the trilogy is over- I want to know if Mrs Clark is a Hob, I want a vampire wedding, and more Doria and Mr Gray!
Author Seegmiller’s books are a lovely blend of paranormal office humor mixed with mystery and personal growth. Her plots are a mix of magical investigations and office-related challenges. They’re fun and engaging, very easy-reading books. It’s corporate life+fantasy, it’s mystery+found family, it’s hidden worlds+adventure, and all 3 are 5⭐️s from me 📚👩🏼🦳
This one is for the corporate girlies that love a little fantasy! This was a light and refreshing read that mixes the corporate world with a contemporary fantasy setting and a very relatable main character.
Linda, our main character, has worked as an executive assistant in law firms for the last seven years and ended up being part of a huge layoff. After being out of work for 6 months, she gets a request for an interview with a smaller firm. Upon starting her new role, she quickly learns that things aren't always as they seem, and there are otherworldly communities out there.
I did feel like this one starts out a bit on the slower side, but it still kept me wanting to know what happened. This is the first in the series and I think is a bit slower to build the world and learn about the characters. This was written very well, and the story is very easy to follow.
I loved seeing Linda's journey as she is thrown into this new supernatural world and how she handles all of it. I also loved seeing how the team worked at the agency. Coming from somebody that's been in the corporate world for 20 years, I would love to be on a team like that!
I am excited to see where the rest of the series goes! If you love a lighter read, with a contemporary fantasy setting, no romance, and great characters, I definitely recommend you give this a shot. Thank you to the author and the NerdFam for the copy of this series!
After getting laid off from her office job Linda (fmc) is desperate, applying constantly in the aim of finding anything amid the unemployment crisis which is relevant to society now considering the UK has had a 5.2% increase in unemployment since February 2026 (ONS reports). As such, Linda is such a relatable character because all of us have probably been in her position, wandering what happens next?
Luckily, for Linda she receives an interview request which leads us on our supernatural adventure as she's accepted as an EA for a company that works with vampires, sirens, werewolves and more.
Linda's relationships with her colleagues feel so natural and the fact that we had a mystery to solve throughout had me at the edge of my seat. Fantastic dialogue. Fantastic worldbuilding. Fantastic characterisation.
As you may be able to tell, I adored this and have already begun the second book so stay tuned.
Thank you to The Nerd Fam for the gifted eARC, all opinions (in this) are my own. I'm over the moon to have received the omnibus especially with how immersed I am in Seegmiller's world.
The premise immediately hooked me; being laid off and then thrown into a workplace that comes with vampires and hidden supernatural politics? It’s the kind of “what if” setup that feels both imaginative and oddly relatable.
What really made this book shine for me, though, was Linda. She’s easy to root for, and I loved watching her grow into her new reality. Her journey feels grounded despite the fantastical elements, and that balance made the story really enjoyable. Also, her grumpy cat deserves an honourable mention, absolute scene-stealer.
The tone leans into cozy mystery with a touch of intrigue, and the cast of characters is genuinely likeable, which made it easy to settle into the story. It’s not overly heavy, but there’s enough going on to keep you engaged.
If you’ve ever worked in a corporate environment, there’s an extra layer of enjoyment here, the workplace dynamics mixed with supernatural elements add a fun twist to something very familiar. A really solid start to the series, and I’m looking forward to continuing with the next books.
Thank you The Nerd Fam & the Janelle Seegmiller for the gifted copy! 📚
Okay, so this isn’t normally the type of book I’d pick up… but the whole onboarding / new job situation immediately caught my attention (HR brain 👀), and the fact that Linda had been laid off? Yeah… I knew I’d probably connect to that a little. And I definitely did.
The story follows Linda as she’s trying to figure out what’s next after being laid off. She gets a random email about a job, accepts it… and very quickly realizes this is not your typical onboarding experience. 😅
From there, things get interesting fast because she’s learning about a whole other side of the world that exists right alongside ours, and now there’s a missing vampire they need to find before it’s too late.
I’ll be honest, I don’t usually reach for vampire books anymore, but this one pulled me in way more than I expected. I flew through it and was actually having fun with it the whole time.
And now I’m fully invested because of course there’s a book two and a book three… and yes, I’ll be reading both. 😂📚
This was the perfect fantasy escape, with tons of twists and turns to keep me guessing the whole time. 🔀🔮 The paranormal mystery elements were so fun, and I loved how the story kept revealing new layers without ever feeling too heavy or overwhelming. It leans cozier rather than diving into a super dense fantasy world, which made it such an easy, addictive read. The plot is lighter on action, but it makes up for it with awesome relatable characters who keep you engaged the whole time!
The workplace family 🫶 dynamic was one of my favorite parts, it added so much warmth and humor and made me feel really connected to the characters. I've never worked in an office but I'd hope for this type of office if I had to. I also loved the hints of hidden abilities ✨ slowly coming to light, along with the intrigue of a secret supernatural society that kept me wanting to know more.🕯️
Overall, this was such an enjoyable start to the series, a great mix of mystery, magic, and character-driven moments. I’m definitely excited to continue and see where it all goes next.
Huge thanks to the author and NerdFam for the gifted omnibus ebook!
This is my first cozy fantasy read and it did not disappoint! Between devastating series like Red Rising, high strung emotions in Project Hail Mary, and the push-pull of enemies-to-lovers in Our Vicious Oaths, this book was a breath of fresh air.
Without giving away spoilers, Linda presents like just your average Jane dealing with relatable worldly issues. Namely, getting laid off and navigating hunting for a new job, then keeping it. In her new law firm, she comes to realize the world is not as simple as she once knew, but instead mystified with the supernatural. The cases they handle and the clients they keep challenge her to accept her ever changing life now full of excitement/risk (far from your usual desk job). Along the way, she discovers family in those working at her side while also learning loads about her own history. I can't wait to continue reading books 2 & 3. Includes: mystery/crime, imposter syndrome, found family, diverse world of vampires/werewolves/witches etc.
Thank you to The Nerd Fam for the gifted eARC. #theotherworldlyadminseries #thenerdfam
A binge worthy cozy fantasy trilogy with vampires, witches, humans, murder, mystery, and office work? ✨️
Yes, that's right. Office work! The Otherworldly Admin series blends supernatural fantasy with modern corporate office life and does it well. Not your typical office either, but one run on the behalf of supernatural beings the average human assumes are fantasy. Linda, the FMC, seems to take that all in stride, however. I think that's one of the things I liked about her best!
This binge worthy trilogy has the perfect blend of cozy fantasy, supernatural elements, mystery, humor, and office life. Plus adventurous field work on behalf of clients. It's fun, fast paced, and full of flair.
With a flowing, consistent pace and plenty of clever plot points I found it easy to enjoy this series. The well crafted characters, solid writing, and engaging storylines kept my interest throughout.
Thank you to The Nerd Fam for the gifted e-books! I really enjoyed reading them!
ARC Read. This was a really fun and refreshing read. It’s on the shorter side for fantasy, but it never felt lacking—instead, it moved at a quick, engaging pace that kept me hooked the whole way through. The story follows Linda, who takes a job that seems far too good to be true after being laid off… and, unsurprisingly, things aren’t quite what they seem. The blend of detective-style mystery with an office setting, layered with supernatural elements, made for a unique and entertaining concept. Linda was such a strong main character. Her voice felt natural and relatable, and it genuinely felt like we were figuring things out alongside her. The supporting cast added a lot of intrigue as well with each character brought their own sense of mystery, which made the world feel more dynamic. The twists were enjoyable, even if a few leaned slightly predictable, and I’m eager to dive into the next book.
I want to start by thanking the author and Nerdfam for sending me the omnibus of this series! So far I’ve only read book one, but I’ll definitely be sharing reviews for the next two soon.
Overall, this was such a fun read for me. It was really refreshing to stay in a more contemporary fantasy setting without having to deal with romance (or that occasional “ick” when you’re just not in the mood for it). The FMC could be a bit annoying or immature at times—especially early on with her inner monologue—but overall I thought the characters were well written. They’re not fully fleshed out yet, which actually works in the story’s favor by keeping an element of mystery.
I do wish the story jumped into the main plot a bit faster, but once it got going, it was engaging, fun, and even made me laugh a few times. I’m excited to continue on with the rest of the series!
This is the story of Linda, a corporate girlie who's lost her job and starts working at a supernatural law/detective/problem solver firm. She immediately gets drawn into the case of a missing vampire and we get to watch the team solve the case.
I have to admit that I judged the book by its cover and was quite pleasantly surprised by its content. This was such a fun story, which I wouldn't have expected from a workplace setting! Linda is a very relateable protagonist and I enjoy seeing her navigate the supernatural world. The developing friendships with her colleagues are so wholesome, too. Lastly, the writing is really good! I definitely recommend this book.

Thank you to The Nerd Fam for the gifted eARC. #theotherworldlyadminseries #thenerdfam. I really enjoyed this story! Linda was laid off from her Executive Admin job and was lost in the fog of being home alone, unemployed and no true friends when a job offer comes with an unexpected announcement. The supernatural world is real and the firm she works for are "fixers" for different supernaturals. I really liked how 'human' everything felt. Linda wasn't a warrior, she suffers from anxiety and self-doubt (the 30 day probation period really makes her nervous), but she easily accepts the supernatural truths. The firm she works for has some fun characters that I can't wait to learn more about. This was a wonderful introduction to a new world and I can't wait to read the next book.
This was such a fun, cozy fantasy read. I really loved the magical realism. There’s something especially delightful about the idea of a legal and PI team working for magical creatures and their hidden societies tucked into the real world. It taps into that quiet, imaginative wish that there’s something extraordinary just beneath everyday life.
What stood out most to me was Linda’s emotional journey. Her healing from past workplace trauma felt genuine and thoughtfully done. I appreciated how it showed up in small, everyday moments, like assuming she’s in trouble when her boss asks for an impromptu meeting. That kind of reaction felt very real and relatable.
Overall, this was an easy, engaging read that left me feeling genuinely happy, which is exactly what I want from a cozy fantasy.
Linda desperately needs a job and can’t resist the surprising, mysterious and very generous employment offer that comes her way, just when she needed it the most. Little did she know how much her life would change once she learned the secrets that come with being an otherworldly admin. This is a thoroughly entertaining read! Modern corporate life meets hidden fantasy world. Such a unique story that will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish! I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves cozy fantasies with no spice paired with a thrilling murder mystery.
This book follows Linda as she starts working at a firm of supernatural fixers after being laid off from her job. The writing style pulled me in even when all that was being talked about was job interviews. There was also enough mystery to keep me intrigued and wanting to keep reading. And then things picked up a lot about half way through and I was sucked in. The first book set up a lot of things for the following books and I’m looking forward to more.
I was lucky to receive this book as an arc from nerdfam and the author Janelle Seegmiller. I am leaving this review both on my own free will and 100% honestly.
What a refreshing story. What a fun little world that exists here. I love the almost day to day life with the wonderful world of magic.
This was such a good refreshing read. It really set the scene and built a great world for this series to continue in.
I liked the relationships with the coworkers/work fam - it felt natural and relatable (as much as it could). Obviously, cooperate jobs are just the best thing ever - for some people (not me) butttt you throw in the chaos of the supernatural and vampires….now was have ourselves a book everyone!
Thank you NerdFam for the gifted omnibus! Looking forward to reading the next books in the series! All opinions are my own.
3.5 Reading as part of an Omnibus review copy of the entire series. Overall a slow start, was not the most interesting book until about the 70% mark. It was a short book so would've been a quicker read if I had been able to get more invested. Will continue the series for the overall review but hopeful that some of the reveals at the end play a much larger role to make it more engaging.
A refreshing well written contemporary office story that pulled me in with easy friendships, the promise of supernatural beings and a boss I'd love to work for. Can't wait to read the rest of the series!
This was a fun read! It was easy to drop into the world and meet/understand all of the characters. It stayed at a good pace throughout and made me immediately start book 2. I definitely recommend reading this series!
This was a cozy, easy read although the story seemed both too slow paced at times and too quick to resolution at others. It will be interesting to see how the main character develops over the course of the next two books.
