The grumpy recluse begrudgingly rents me his guest house if I agree to leave him alone. Too bad I've never been good at doing what I'm told.

I am in desperate need of a place to live when my ex-boyfriend unceremoniously kicks me out weeks before a huge break in my career. Things look hopeless until I find a listing for a home that would be perfect, complete with a concise list of dos and don'ts. All I have to do is ignore the alarmingly good-looking owner, Levi, and follow his strict rules.

As the days pass and I continue to push boundaries it gets harder to avoid his sweet compassion, capable hands, and attractive glower. The lines of our strict owner/tenant relationship continue to blur as the truth behind his protective shell is uncovered.

Can I let him be or will my instincts for information trample the intense attraction growing between us?

I'm under deadline, over my head and (F)all shook up thinking about Levi.

FALL SHOOK UP is a charming autumn-inspired small-town romantic comedy about a reclusive artist and the nosey journalist who wants answers. Grab a pumpkin spice latte, a warm fuzzy blanket, and make your way down to Cozy Creek. Each book in the series is a complete stand alone with a happily ever after.

Addictively good. I lost sleep over this book and fell head over heels for Levi. I LOVED the quirky emails and snarky banter between these two. SO SO GOOD.

It started good, but then the halfway mark came, and until the third act breakup, they still wouldn't communicate. They have a lot of irrelevant topics most of the time, but when it comes to the most important things, maaan, they're pro at avoiding them.

Levi (??) feels everything too deeply, while Claire (??) was good at hiding her emotions. Both were mutually attracted to one another but were afraid to put their hearts on the line. Seeing this dynamic, it's clear from the very start that these two would definitely have a huge problem in the future.

The miscommunication is never fun to read. It's so overdone! Why is this always the reason for conflicts? I think the MCs were in their thirties, so why couldn't they just have an actual conversation, you know, like grown adults. 🤧 But maybe I shouldn't blame them entirely because emotions were running high that time and they have their own issues and experiences that honed them the way they are now.

Like I said, the first half was okay, but the second half definitely killed my mood. The slowburn pace didn't work for me; nothing was happening much, and the chemistry, idk, felt lackluster. 🤷‍♀️ Add in the breakup and I eventually lost interest in the story as a whole.

Also, this is definitely a me problem, but that HFN ending was so meh. Seeing the MCs simply in a relationship was not satisfying at all. They've been in a relationship in the book, so this ending doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things.

Overall, it was still an okay read, but I have to be honest and say that I only enjoyed the first half, and the second half was so underwhelming. 🤷‍♀️

A return to Cozy Creek, this time courtesy of Piper Sheldon in the standalone romantic adventure Fall Shook Up. Journalist Claire is desperate for somewhere to live and finish her latest story after her ex throws her out. She rents a cabin from Levi who is not exactly welcoming in his advertisement.

Claire and Levi first meet accidentally in the local store, just as Claire is having a panic attack over the direction her life is heading (and which creamer to buy). After unceremoniously dumping her life’s troubles onto an unsuspecting Levi, she flees without her shopping and Levi charitably takes it over to the cabin for her, ignoring all his carefully laid out rules about no interaction during her stay at the cabin.

Slowly, as they go about their daily lives, little things start to draw them together into a whirlwind romance of passion and emotions neither of them is ready for. Levi has his reasons for hiding out in the woods and a reluctance for company. Claire is also trying to heal and overcome the callousness of her last relationship.

I fell in love with Levi right away, he was such a good man, swamped with grief and determined not to interact with Claire in any way during her stay, but his kindness and big heart won out and he took care of her, protected her, made sure she was safe. Claire didn't want to let Levi in but he slowly won her heart, despite some misunderstandings and wrong assumptions.

I love this town of Cozy Creek, I will definitely be checking out the other books in the series, some of which were hinted at near the end of this book.

*sigh*
Alright. I have mixed feelings.
Let's start with the story. This had none of the vibes the other books had. I understand this took place technically in the outskirts of Cozy Creek, but they had like one outing in town together. Again, I understand he was grieving and avoiding town, but come on. I liked the slight mystery-like question; who was Lily Carmichael? But there was no meat. There was so much potential here.
Levi; shocker another great man. I never seem to have problems with the MMCs, so yeah he was great. I mean honestly, kind of hot tempered for me personally, but he's grieving and I understand why he blew up.
Now, Claire. Dear God. I have never felt physically ill from something being so deeply cringey it's just not possible. Well, congratulations Piper. You made my stomach roll because of what Claire did.
To pretend to be a robot, sure fine. I've done that. BUT to then say in a robotic voice "O-vu-la-ting". Bye.
GOODBYE.
You've fucking lost me.
Yes I finished the book after that, but I will never be able to forget that. Who the fuck okayed that?
Yeah, Claire was a terrible fmc. I cannot tell like... I don't understand Claire. That's all I really have to say.

FALL SHOOK UP is a charming autumn-inspired small-town romantic comedy about a reclusive artist and the nosey journalist who wants answers. This is part of the Cozy Creek Collection. Each book in the series is a complete stand alone with a happily ever after.

Tropes

🍂Grumpy Sunshine
🍁Small town romantic comedy
🍂He falls first and harder
🍁cozy fall vibes
🍂Reclusive Artist
🍁Nosey Journalist
🍂Found Family
🍁Witty banter
🍂Healthy communication

After she broke up with her boyfriend, Claire rents Levi’s guest house. Even if one of the rules is that they do not need to interact, they cannot stay away.

This book is a bit more serious, as Levi is still mourning the loss of his mother and Claire has issues with anxiety. But it is so nice to watch them help each other and fall in love.

How can you not fall in love with Levi when he says:

“I promise to prioritize you the way we prioritize our souls’ needs. I’ll prioritize you in the way I prioritize art and you with your research, with a gentle determination and commitment to getting it right. I won’t just stop if it becomes challenging because I know the best things are born of time and effort. You are the best thing.”

I also liked that characters from the other books in the series make an appearance.

I was happy to receive this as an ARC from the author and review it.

Mountain Man/Neurodivergent Woman, healing from past, quirky small town, and hilarious moments thrown in with hot h-o-t-t spice!!!!

It is not explicitly said outright, but as a neurodivergent person herself, I recognized a kindred spirit. And this just made me love Claire even more. I saw so many of my personality traits in her, I connected to her right away and was sucked into the story. It is so hard to navigate the neurotypical world when you are not a part of it. We think and feel different. And this made me fall in love with Levi. Levi accepted Claire's quirks and all and didn't think that they were flaws. Those were things that were to be cherished. Those were things that made her...her. I went into this looking for a small-town, kinda humorous romance novel, and I got so much more out of it. I hope you all fall in love with it as well.

This is part of a collection of books by several different authors that revolve around one town. You do not have to have read the others. In fact, this is the first book I read. Everything you need to know will be given to you. However, when you are done, you will want to read them all.

This is also the first book I have read by this author, and I think I found a new book bestie! I have already downloaded my next book by this author to start reading, and I can't wait to dive into her books.

I’m shocked how boring this book was! Such a slow burn! The entire cozy creek collection so far was really good but this book was just not that great, some parts were cute but ehhh I wouldn’t recommend or read it again.

I adored this book. It was giving all the vibes I wanted. ❤️

Also, a MMC who’s a sculptor, lives in a cabin in the woods, is overall emotional mature/intelligent, and has special sweatshirts to hold his little dog in - I’m in love.

My only complaint is that the scene where he says he loves her that leads into the third act breakup felt pretty off for the characters. It was like the author was leaning into the extreme damage/ptsd/grief of the characters in order to create a reason for them to break up.

But the updated lease agreement at the end 🥹🥹🥹

Piper Sheldon’s writing is absolutely incredible. Her stories and chosen words make me fall in love with each new character and make me wish to visit places that are only imagined. Levi’s pain is deep and immense. As a person who has suffered significant losses, I can empathize with exactly what he’s going through. And Claire is damaged in her own, less obvious way, with traumas of her own filling her head with doubt and fear. How they overcome their emotional challenges created a story that I found moving and entertaining, and I’m certain it’ll live rent free in my head for weeks at least.

i absolutely loved the first half of this book, the banter, the chemistry, levi 🫣... up until the miscommunication started.

Claire (our FMC) is a journalist that hates emotions, verbally expressing emotions and anything related to feelings. Levi (our MMC) is a broody artist that feels everything too deeply and needs to communicate feelings.

obviously, this leads to conflict between our MCs which then results in *drum roll please* you guessed it, a third act breakup *gag*

me personally, i did not find the conflict worthy of all that but what can you do.

i also wish that we got to see interactions other than the ones between our MCs. maybe show the development of the friendships Claire makes, more of Pace and Levi, that kind of stuff.

4.5 stars!! How do you not fall for a grumpy man who wears his dog in his hoodie? I can just not get over this cuteness!! I mean, just look at that cover!

But honestly, it takes a little time to warm up to Levi. He’s gotten really good at keeping people away - he lives way outside town and keeps pretty much to himself these days.

And Claire doesn’t really seem the type to prioritize coaxing someone out of their shell. She’s a singularly focused reporter who gets so consumed by her stories she forgets to eat.

But somehow they click and these two rule followers find themselves breaking all their careful rules to spend time together. But in doing so they expose vulnerabilities they might not be ready to deal with. They also really enjoy their bath time, just saying’.

I loved Claire’s sweet relationship with her dad. He was so wonderful and protective of her, but also let her live her life. Just like Pace was there for his bff, Levi, but maybe a bit more meddlesome. But no side character was as beloved at Ripley, the short-haired, shivering dog. She was such a snuggly sweetheart and a world class napper.

I am really enjoying this whole collection and I hope there are more stories for the terrific side characters that have been introduced in the first books!

Y'know, I love a good romance to get me out of a reading slump especially an autumn themed, pumpkin spicy, snarky bantered with a side of teenage boy humour, cabin in the woods, romance. I REALLY like the characters.
It toed the line of the third act miscommunication trope (which few people like) but this was more a realistic 'we're grieving adults who don't really know how to share feelings but we can figure it out together and with therapy' kind of communication which is a pretty relatable state of being, so it gets a pass.

*immediately adds Levi to the book boyfriend list*

When Claire’s life takes an unexpected turn, she finds herself in need of a new place to live. Insert Levi Carmichael, local artist, grumpiest man on the mountain, and a secret cinnamon roll?? Claire takes up residence in “Little Cabin” while also taking up residence in Levi’s heart and mind.

These two are such a good match!! Levi leads with his emotions-even when trying to hide them-while Claire thinks through every possible scenario. Big miscommunication moment towards the end (no real spoilers but I know it’s a deal breaker for some readers!), but also served as a big wake up call for both MCs to see life from the other’s POV.

I giggled. I kicked my feet. I freaking sobbed reading the last list.

Also: Ripley. That’s it. Just snuggly little Ripley.

This book had no right to look inside my brain and tug on my heartstrings. What a heartfelt journey full of angst, tension and excellent banter.
First of all, Levi has a jumper with a pouch for his dog Ripley- now that’s the greenest flag there is. Not to mention he is an artist and emotionally intelligent, but that doesn’t stop him from being a grumpy bone head. Protect this man at all costs!
And Claire, oh, bless you sweetheart. She’s homeless, recently broken up with her greedy boyfriend when she rents Levi’s cabin. She has a neurodivergent vibe going on, I can’t confirm if she is, but she definitely has trouble expressing her emotions.
Their journey to a happy ending was bumpy, but so worth it! I cried at least 3 times.
This grumpy sunshine romance is the perfect book for autumn, and I can’t believe it’s part of a multi-author series I can’t wait to read them all!

What a cute story! I saw a post the author made of this book and instantly loved it. I was invested from the start, this is romantic comedy set in the small town of Cozy Creek. It’s heartbreakingly beautiful and I loved every second of it. It left me wanting to check the rest of the series and I’ll do just that, especially if there’s a book about Pace, I loved him!

Such a fun spicy read! Was nervous it would be too hallmark but this book delivered! Loved the setting and of course Levi! Claire annoyed me a bit but it’s all part of her quirkiness. Didn’t affect the book overall. Loved this book and it’s perfect for the fall season and transition to winter.

Super sweet book, with a broke H after losing his mother one year ago. My heart hurt for this big, grumpy guy, with the sweetest heart.
The h annoyed me at some times, she was open about being bad at reading sosial settings, but when she wanted to write about H mothers art, why was she hurt? He was the one with all the grief.

But overall, the were cute, some miscommunication which lead to a third act breakup, the H had some final grieving to do, so it all was alright.

- Grumpy / sunshine
- Heartbreaking hero
- Grieving
- Late 20/ early 30s
- Neighbors // he’s her tenant

Safety:
- Little info about past
- h has an ex she broke off with at the beginning bc he chose his career, and wanted her to quit her career for his. h gets some insecurity about their breakup which lead to some miscommunication with the H
- No info about H, only that he hasn’t been with a woman in years

Fall Shook Up

TW: pan!c att*cks, anx!ety, negat!ve self talk, gr!ef, horrible horrible ex

My friend told me I’d love this book and she was 100% right. It was adorable and it’s book 5 and you absolutely don’t need to read the other books before this. I looked at the names and nothing was spoiled by reading book 5 first.
I kinda hope the tease at the end about the winter town is going to be a Christmas series.
My sole reason for reading this book was the dog. My Italian grey is the biggest diva and is also always cold. I love seeing him in books. Now Corndog holds more grudges than Ripley but he’s special.

Now back to the book. I am sad to see that Pace isn’t book 6. I want to know more about him.

The 3 act breakup if we can call it that was done well for once. The apology at the end was actually what I’ve always looked for in one of those. It wasn’t a let’s get back together it was an apology and that’s it. Exactly what those should be in my mind. They owned up to their mistakes and left it at that. 10/10

I enjoyed how Claire’s anx!ety was depicted and how it felt real. The author did a great job of showing us she was having a panic attack and not just saying it. Claire didn’t have to tell people, it was shown and that was truly what it feels like. I think that was wonderful.
Also the ex b*shing was 10/10. I’m all for it.

Tropes: enemies to lovers, he falls first, slightly jealous MMC, bad at emotions FMC, they both are avoiding people right now, grumpy/sunshine(but it almost switches who is who), small town rom com, the dog picks snuggles over people, spicy talk

Spice: 🌶️🌶️
Steam: 🔥🔥
Sweetness:💗💗💗💗

Another outstanding addition to the Cozy Creek series. Piper Sheldon is a one click author for me as she creates beautiful and heartwarming stories filled with amazing characters, settings and real life situations.

Claire is in town to get away from some not so fun life moments. She’s determined this time away will help her focus on work and meet a big goal she has set for herself. She is determined and strong but could also use some friends.

Levi is a grumpy, growly but sweet man. He’s. It a people person and intentionally keeps to himself…although he is extremely kind and often helps others. He also has the sweetest peppers - Riley.

Claire and Levi’s initial meeting is quite unexpected and who knew it would lead them to more interactions. I love how their story plays out…they are patient, kind and the underlying attraction is so full of angst!!! The banter, conversations and building trust is so beautifully written by Piper.

Pipers stories will always make you smile, swoon and you never want the book to end because it’s so amazing.

Id say 3 and a half, maybe even 3 and 3/4 (goodreads i understand it makes numbers difficult but i am begging, hands and knees, for a half star feature). anyway, i enjoyed this book. one comment i have is the presence of growling, which i thought was quite odd (and incredibly cliche) but it only seemed to appear in the first half of the book so it wasn’t terribly distracting. I really like how the script seemed to be flipped from what i’m used to seeing, and in this book it was more like the guy was the emotionally intelligent/mature one and the girl was the one who struggled to communicate her feelings. I think the love interest was a well developed and rounded character, and i can say the same for the MC. It was nice how the author strayed from the ideals of ‘perfection’ when it came to personality (though i’m unsure the same can necessarily be said about things surrounding vanity, but that is a different hurdle to jump). Overall it was enjoyable and the sprinkles of hurt/comfort definitely had me (a known yearner) yearning for romance once more.

DNF page 225 out of 281

I really loved the first half of this book, nice build up, slow burn, nice environment.
Good writing, interesting combo, a grumpy sensitive avoidant and a yapper journalist that butts her nose into everything and anything.

But Jesus fucking Christ. 😭
Am I reading the smut of two teenagers or two grown up adults? What is this conflict? Did neither of those people have any personal growth or learn how to communicate or process their emotions from teenage years to adulthood?

I can’t, I’ve gotten the ick and I can’t finish the last 50 or so pages. 😅

I’m not sure how to feel about this book… the entire time I was switching from getting pissed off at Claire to getting pissed off at Levi to being pissed off at everybody.
I’m too lazy to go into detail,so all I’ll say is ,read it but don’t expect much. It was cute at times and I surprisingly did get emotional towards the end but I feel like everything happened too fast for me to connect to the story itself.
Even though I didn’t connect to the story as a whole, Claire was beautifully written to show how realistically anxiety is portrayed so kudos to the author.

This was an incredible time. I am genuienly sad it is over.

We have a neuro-spicey fmc, with an incredible brain and a backbone that I'd kill for. I loved Claire's perceptions and her humor.

We also have a simultaneously emotionally intelligent/stunted mmc who cares too much but refuses to admit it. He was a collection of paradoxes, and I loved him.

I am also a HUGE fan of the backdrop of the book. I was so caught up in the colors and crispness of fall that I forgot it's 94° outside.

I loved these 2 together, and of course, I loved the relationship with Dad. I wish we had seen a touch more of them interacting. Their banter was so much fun.
