I am Heather McCollum, writer of 16th and 17th century Scottish romance full of adventure and intrigue, sprinkled with humor, history, and spice. Brawny Highlanders and feisty heroines are my favorite characters!

I am also a mom of three kids, dog-mom of one rescued geriatric golden retriever, and wife of one 6 foot 4 inch Highlander. When I’m not trying to help my kids make it through the day, baking things I see on The Great British Baking Show, or writing, I’m usually educating women on ovarian cancer (I’m a nine-year survivor).

I love kilted heroes, chai lattes, and eating buttered air-popped popcorn for dinner on Friday nights (my dog loves this one too).

The last thing Eagan wants is to get married. When he meets Claudette that all changes. I enjoyed the chemistry between them.

I always seek out a novel by Heather McCollum when I'm in the mood for a heartfelt and romantic tale. And The Highlander's Untamed Tempest delivered just that.

Tessa, a hidden gem within the Macquarie clan, is a smart, beautiful, and worldly character. I appreciated that the author took the time to delve deep into Tessa's past before she came to Wolf Isle. She is an amazing character, and I admired her with each turning page. It was also refreshing to see that she was a few years older than the hero, Eagen, and confident in her sexuality.

Eagen and Tessa make a great match, and I loved how he became her safe place when she felt lost. Eagen's unwavering strength and commitment to safeguarding Tessa, despite her reluctance to accept, had me swooning.

The ending was incredibly sweet and brought a tear to my eye. It was the perfect conclusion to the Brothers of Wolf Isle series. The Highlander's Untamed Tempest by Heather McCollum deserves 5 stars!

5 Stars! Heather McCollum is one of my absolute favorite authors & books like this are why! When I read one of her books, I know I’m going to enjoy it. This is the 5th book in ‘The Brothers of Wolf Isle’ series and can be read as a standalone. I read book 1, 4 & 5 but missed book 2 & 3, which I really want to go back and read the series one after the other. This is Eagan & Tessa’s story and with duel points of view, lots of action, steamy ‘sexy times’ action, a villainous pirate, a witch, a buff & brawny Highlander, a strong female main character, love, hate, secrets, danger, cats, possible pregnancy, threats of death, a family curse with a bleeding, cursed tree, family and a HEA ending, it was a very entertaining book. And that’s just a snippet of what the author has put in this book. This is definitely a favorite series of mine, beat out only by the ‘Sons of Sinclair’ series, also by Heather McCollum. You really can’t go wrong with a Heather McCollum book! Trust me on this!

So I haven't read the rest of the books in this series, but because each book follows a different couple, it stands well enough on it's own.

I do think that reading the other books might enhance the story a little, as I found the book to be just OK. It felt like a complete story, and the characters were nice enough, I just wasn't enthralled. (Could have been just me.l

Disclaimer of receiving the ARC for this, but giving my own thoughts.

This book is definitely not a stand alone. It ties up all the loose ends of the series and is a story set a lot at sea, which I enjoy!

We have Tessa and Eagen as our main characters. There was a bit of insta lust but it worked the way their characters were written. It was done well and not a forced feeling. Both the H and h are in transition times in their lives hoping and planning a change or location for their hopeful yearned for homes. But things change those plans.

Trying to keep spoilers low but can say that we have closure about a foe throughout the series. I wish the motivation or reasons for his devilry were a bit more explained but some evil foes are just evil.

This is a big departure from her latest book (the new series of the Brothers of Soloway Moss). That was high action packed (and I really can’t wait for that next book!) and this is high character packed. But having really really enjoyed the Soloway book, this slower pace was a bit of a gear shift. This author can write both types well and it is enjoyable to see her writing reach.

As this is the end of the series, it can’t be too much of a spoiler that the curse also is finally done with. But if you’ve read the series and know it’s a romance of course - then you know it’s going to end up finishing and everyone on the island has a HEA. I liked the choice of the character to end things. When their backstory was revealed, it was a great choice to have them be the one who had something noted that it was worth a sacrifice.

The first book in the series is one of my favorite by this author and this book nicely closed the series and had a comfortable connection between the characters. The only thing I would have liked to see was a scene towards the end where the family gets put in quite a predicament (around 90%) to have seen parts of it described more or flushed out. It’s was a pretty big ending of an arc for a character.

I love the way HM ends series and makes sure themes or situations running through them are closed off and finalized. I really enjoy reading this author and recommend her for anyone who just needs a happy and not too historical background overtaking the stories but still has you enjoying the highlands and their heroes.

I received a eARC for my honest opinion

This is the last book of Brothers of Wolf Isle series, and it’s about Eagan Macquarie who is the youngest brother and the one that might break the curse or doom them all again. Tessa Ainsworth, who is a healer but with her healing people think she is a witch. Will these two be the fated couple that will break the curse or just cause a lot of problems?

When I picked this book to read, I thought that I had read at least 2 or 3 of the books but found out after I read it that this was my first book. This is a series and it’s book 5, but with it being book 5 and I didn’t read any of the other ones I was still able to understand what the plot/end goal was, I won’t lie I was a little lost and I know that if I was to go back and read the others everything would make sense. However, I still liked the book. I found the plot to have been fun, engaging, great characters and they were well developed, the ending of the book was nicely wrapped up and I know that for the readers that read the whole series enjoyed the ending of the series. I found the author’s writing style to be easy to read, and I liked the pace of the book. It was the characters that shined through in this book.

Eagan loves his family so much, but he has the itch to travel and discover new places. His family wants him to fall in love and get married so he can break the curse. One day he is all ready to leave, then he runs into Tessa. She is a French woman, who is so beautiful, she is smart, talented and a survivor of the world, and she is very lonely. There is something about Tessa that Eagan can’t get her out of his mind. Tessa has no plans of staying on Wolf Isle, she is waiting for her father The French Capitan Jandeau to come back and take her away like he said, but what Tessa doesn’t know is… that her father isn’t a Captain but a pirate and one of the most horrible kinds…he takes women and children and sells them.

As the reader goes through the book, they will see the lust that the characters have turned into loving feelings and then see the characters do whatever they can to defeat the pirate Jandeau and get their happily ever after. I loved that both characters were strong, confident, not ashamed to go for what they want, and determined to overcome anything.

I want to thank NetGalley and Entangled for the opportunity to review this book.

Reviewed for Wit and Sin

The youngest Macquarie brother will be the one to finally break the curse or doom his home forever in The Highlander’s Untamed Tempest . Heather McCollum brings her Brothers of Wolf Isle series to a close with Eagan Macquarie and Tessa Ainsworth, a mysterious woman with the power to change the course of the Macquarie clan.

Eagan loves his family but with everyone wanting him to fall in love and get married in order to break the curse, he’s chomping at the bit to leave. His bags are packed, he’s ready to set sail, and then he meets Tessa. The mysterious French beauty with a powerful voice is on Wolf Isle, waiting for her father to come back for her. Tessa is smart, talented, and a survivor, but she’s also deeply lonely. It’s lust at first sight for both her and Eagan and they have an easy chemistry that makes them an enjoyable couple to read about.

Tessa has no plans to stay on Wolf Isle and Eagan doesn’t want to be tied down, but the two of them can’t bear to be apart. The biggest obstacle in the romance is not just the two of them deciding if they want to stay on Wolf Isle and be together, but the dastardly French pirate Jandeau. The series’ main villain is back, as one would expect, and determined to destroy the Macquaries. How he plans to do so is not going to surprise readers, so really the tension is finding out how Tessa and the Macquaries will defeat him.

The Highlander’s Untamed Tempest is an entertaining romance with strong protagonists who know what they want and aren’t ashamed to go after it. I was rooting for Tessa and Eagan every step of the way and the result was a satisfying end to the Brothers of Wolf Isle series.

The fifth and final book in The Brothers of Wolf Isle series, this is Eagan and Tessa's story. I liked both characters! Eagan is super swoon-worthy, and Tessa is bold and brave and so endearing. She has a way about her that makes people want to gravitate to her, and you can tell why Eagan falls for her so quickly.

The romance is a bit insta-love, but it made sense with the faster-paced plot. Between the pirates, the family curse, and a few other surprises, there aren't many dull moments for Tessa and Eagan. And I love that we get to see all of the other main characters from the previous books and some secondary ones as well. I've enjoyed all of the books and revisiting some favorite couples is always so fun! They have a strong family unit, and to see all they've accomplished together is lovely.

If you haven't read other books in the series, you could probably read this one as a standalone. It's engrossing and romantic, and there's so much suspense and action mixed in with some incredibly touching and heartwarming moments.

Isle of Mull, Scotland, 1550

In this final book of the Macquarie Brothers on Wolf Isle you think that the youngest brother Eagan will fall in love and meet his soulmate. Except he has all his bags packed ready to see the world and the last thing he wants is to get married! The Macquarie clan is cursed by an old crone who is Grissell’s ancestor. As the first Macquarie Chieftain, got a lass pregnant with no offer of marriage and married another due to a clan alliance. Well this lass was so brokenhearted she took her own life but her mother cut the baby out so it would survive.

So her powerful witch mother cursed the entire Macquarie clan to stop creating illegitimate children forcing them in a cruel world alone. Now they won’t be able to populate and get any lass pregnant, not until the clan really comprehends what true love really is! This goes to everyone on the Isle, even the livestock. Now everyone and their Uncle knows of the curse and the stipulations. Naturally every unmarried woman and their mama are offering their daughters or female relations on a silver platter to Eagan. If Eagan leaves or gets a lass pregnant out of marriage the clan will be cursed forever!

Everything changes when Eagan has to help a midwife who is a French woman, Claudette Tempest Ainsworth known as Tessa. A woman who was hidden on wolf isle for the past year by Grissell whose ancestor committed the curse on the Macquarie family. She had been teaching Tessa how to care for the orphans she cared for, even the animals too. Eagan and Tessa fall for each other quickly nor realizing that danger is centering around Tessa and the man she loves.

Now Tessa is missing her sea captain father who promised to come retrieve her. Of course she is also falling for the youngest Macquarie. Something Tessa has never felt especially from her mother who never trusted any man and for good reason too! Tessa is wonderful with animals, children and is a healer too. All of Macquarie's instants fall in love with this lass from her beautiful singing voice to her dance instruction being a midwife and her other healing talents.

However one mother whose child was not born perfect is accusing her of being a witch due to a birthmark. Sadly it is when a witch hunter from Edinburgh comes to Wolf Isle just to start trouble for innocent young women. Will Tess be tortured and executed too? Especially now when she has fallen in love for the first time! Everything changes for Eagan when meets the bonny Tessa and all his careful plans are swept out the window! He is being swept off his feet, feeling things he has never felt for any lass ever before! However he also sees a threat and like all Macquarie men. They will do anything for the woman they love.

When you think of the mid sixteenth century you think of a “Rough Wooing.” It was a series of wars where England wanted to force a marriage between Henry VIII and Mary Queen of Scots…well we know France won that wooing war! Also Witch hunts began in Scotland around 1550, and the Church of Scotland's view of witchcraft as a threat to Christianity heavily influenced the witch hunts. So if any of the farm animals or even if there was an illness among the villagers they would blame it on witchcraft and innocent women were executed! It was a very horrific time for women in this time period.

As always my go-to-author Heather McCollum pens another beautiful story. I especially loved how all the issues in this series were tied up in perfect bow. A very satisfying conclusion to the series finale where all the brothers are in this book with the women who captured their hearts! As much as I hate when a series I have enjoyed so much ends I loved how this author wrapped all the loose ends up perfectly. You can read any of the books in this series as a stand alone book, but I highly recommend every book in this series as they were all brilliant! I also loved the story of Eagan and Tessa so much!

Barbara’s rating: 5 out of 5 Stars
Series: The Brothers of Wolf Isle #5
Publication Date: 9/30/24
Period: 1550 – Wolf Isle, Scotland
Number of Pages: 242

With pirates, witches, family curses, secrets, six-toed cats, bleeding trees, kidnappings, sea battles, and large, brawny Highlanders, this book is the perfect wrap-up for an entertaining series. It features Eagan, the last unmarried Macquarie brother, and the mysterious Claudette Tempest Ainsworth (Tessa) who, unknown to the Macquarie’s, has been living on Wolf Isle for the last year. How has she kept hidden?

As we’ve seen through the previous four books, Eagan loves his family, but he is the one Macquarie brother who doesn’t wish to stay on Wolf Isle nor does he want to marry to end the curse. He doesn’t believe in love and just wants to travel and be alone – without family telling him what he should do – certainly not telling him he needs to marry.

Tessa spent most of her life in or near the French court with her mother who held many roles there. After her mother died, Tessa was left to fend for herself until her father, a French Navy captain, found and rescued her. Captain Lemaire brought his daughter to Wolf Isle and left her with Grissel, an old woman who cares for orphans. While she is already trained in midwifery by her mother, she learns many more of the healing arts from Grissel.

Every page of this steamy, interesting, and exciting book is filled with action and adventure. From the arrival of a witch hunter, the appearance of the Macquarie’s worst enemy – the pirate Jandeau, shocking revelations, and rescues at sea, Tessa and Eagan share an immutable attraction. Can their love survive the shocking revelations about her past? Will Jandeau finally manage to catch the Macquarie’s unaware and seize control of Wolf Isle and all of its inhabitants? Will they finally manage to break the curse?

I have enjoyed this series and highly recommend it, as well as this final book. You could read it as a standalone, but to get the true feel for all of the Macquarie brothers, how far they have come, and all of the supporting characters, you would really benefit from reading the series. Happy Reading!

I voluntarily read an early copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Eagan Macquarie doesn’t believe in love, and he’s tired of his siblings meddling in his nonexistent love life. He’s ready to flee Wolf Isle, despite the fact that a hex was placed on the Macquarie clan. You see, in order for the hex to be broken all five Macquarie brothers must marry for love. But a chance encounter with a stranger may just prove that he was wrong about love all along.

Claudette Tempest Ainsworth, known as Tessa, has been waiting for her father to return for her and take her back to France. A learned mid-wife, she first encounters our hero when he is tasked with fetching her for her services. Suddenly, Eagan is not so keen on leaving the island after all.

There is definitely lust at first sight going on. So if you prefer a more slow burn, be forewarned. The couple gets intimate right away, and while that doesn’t always bother me, in this instance the story doesn’t really have anywhere to go as far as the relationship is concerned. There’s no yearning or tension. That being the said the spicy scenes are super hot and get all the stars.

While this can be read as a stand-alone, a lot of characters from previous books make an appearance. Since I didn’t read the previous books, it was a little hard to keep track of them all. This sort of slows the pacing a bit and it was hard to stay engaged.

Things begin to pick up once Tessa’s father returns for her. As it turns out, he’s the villain from the past books.

It was a bit frustrating that Tessa, who’s so competent would not believe literally everyone who told her that her father is a horrible person who has raped women and sold women and children into slavery. Even when one of the women who actually experienced his atrocities warns her of this, she still believes it’s a misunderstanding. That just didn’t track with her character at all. And it takes her longer than I’d prefer to arrive to the conclusion that everyone was right and her father is a horrible person. It just didn’t track with her character.

I did like the chemistry between Eagan and Tessa, and felt they were evenly matched. While there were parts of the story that bothered me, I enjoyed it overall.

My opinion:
Perfect length, fast-paced storyline with fabulous and fun main characters. I love that all of the female characters are portrayed as strong and self-reliant. The short chapters make for easy reading. All of the animals are so cute and lovable in the novel. Tessa's singing is a great addition to her character. I feel that Tessa was taken abduction at least one too many times, making it a little unbelievable. I enjoyed this novel and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical romance, especially stories with a handsome Highlander!

What I Loved: Heather’s Scottish historical romance expertise once again leaves me in awe. I couldn’t put this book down and was utterly captivated by the writing. The storyline was not only engaging but also filled with spicy moments. The conflict was resolved at the perfect time, and the series concludes with a beautiful happily ever after ending for all the characters. This romance is both realistic and well written to where you can easily picture the scenes in the story. What really made this book great was the unraveling of trust and understanding between the FMC and MC. I loved the mixture of the highlander culture, witch hunt, and pirates for this book, it left me wanting to read all of her books!

Special thanks to the Entangled and the Heather McCollum for providing a complimentary digital Electronic Advanced Reader Copy (E-ARC) of this novel via NetGalley. This is my fair, honest, and personal review. All opinions are mine alone and were not biased in any way.

With all his brothers happily married, Eagan Macquarie is getting sick of everyone looking to him to marry and finally breaking the curse cast on his clan. He has nothing against love or marriage, but he isn’t sure if that is his destiny, he wants to broaden his horizons and travel before he has to think about that. In fact, his bag is packed, and he plans on leaving in the morning following tonight's Samhain celebration. But when he is asked to row over to Wolf Island to collect Grissell to help with a difficult birth – all his plans go awry when he meets Claudette “Tessa” Tempest Ainsworth, and soon more than just his plans change when her connection to the Macquarie’s great enemy is revealed.

Tessa has been living on Wolf Isle for the last year. Her father found her in Paris barely getting by after the death of her mother and brought her to Wolf Isle with the promise to return for her soon. Tessa believes he will return her to France, and they will live on his family’s estate and she will finally have the security that has been missing in her life. But for now, she waits, and as an accomplished midwife, she is sent in Grissell’s stead to help with a birth on Mull and feels an immediate connection and attraction to Eagan. Soon the two become lovers, and at first neither is willing to change their future plans for the other. But the more time spent together, the deeper their connection grows, and she isn’t sure what she will do when/if her father returns. But when he does, everything she thought she knew is challenged and it becomes clear that heartbreak will be inevitable.

This was a very good end to the Wolf Isle series; it is well-written and ties up all the story lines that have been ongoing throughout the series. It did start a bit slow and took a couple of turns that made me wonder where the author was going and how it was going to all work out – but it does, and it is very satisfying. This book has a bit of everything; intrigue, insta-lust, great characters, witch hunters, old enemies, impossible choices, steamy love scenes, the entire Macquarie family, a centuries old curse, twist and turns, shocking revelations, heartache, and a happily ever after that didn’t seem possible as well as an epilogue. This is the fifth and final book in the series and while it could be read as a standalone title, I would strongly recommend reading the series in order for the best reader experience. It also should be mentioned that there are some scenes that might be upsetting to some readers, and I would suggest checking out the content warning before reading this book.

4.5 stars, rounded up

The Highlander's Untamed Tempest
The Brothers of Wolf Isle #5
Heather McCollum
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Eagan Macquarie does not believe in love, and he certainly doesn't want a wife. There is an entire world to explore, and he plans to do it. Alone! He knows the Macquarie curse will continue to haunt his family unless he himself finds a bride and breaks the curse once and for all. He's planning on leaving as quickly as he can until a beautiful stranger that he didn't know was on the island catches his eye.

Claudette Tempest Ainsworth is a French midwife who wants nothing more than for her father to come fetch her from Wolfe Isle. But now that she has met Eagan, she finds herself aflame with more than just desire. She's caught between wanting Eagan and wanting her father to take her away, and she is really not sure what she truly wants anymore.

More than just, Tessa's voice has bewitched them all. The woman herself has endeared herself to the clan so quickly. But when danger threatens everyone on Wolf Isle, Eagan finds that the love he never believed might be his clans salvation or its awful doom.

Heather McCollum is totally amazing. When this author puts pen to paper, I'm never disappointed with what I read. Ms. McCollum is so talented that it never ceases to amaze me. This book was just what I needed right now. The Macquarie's feel like family now. I feel like I stood back in the shadows and watched them break the curse. I honestly would not have guessed who Tessa really was, and I won't give it away either. Tessa had a backbone of steel, and life wasn't all that good to her, but she rose up like a Phoenix out of the ashes and showed what and who she really wanted. I loved Eagan. He has so much honor, and there was no way he was letting his Tessa go anywhere even though he wasn't sure what he wanted himself. All in all, this was a wonderful book that had my heart racing and had me cheering along with the Macquarie's from Wolf Isle.

The Highlander’s Untamed Tempest by Heather McCollum
Brothers of Wolf Isle #5

Curses ~ Do you believe in them? The Macquari clan do and have felt the impact of one for one hundred years…will this generation finally break the curse and improve the lot of the clan? This final book of five in the series will finally let us know and also find all five brothers with the women they are meant to be with.

What I liked:
* Returning to Wolf Island and finding out how everyone is doing
* Claudette Tempest Ainsworth “Tessa” – midwife, grew up in France, sang and taught dance at French court, loved her mother, admired her father, midwife, lived on Wolf Island for a year before making an appearance, works with Grissell while waiting for her father, attracted to Eagan
* Eagan Macquarie: youngest of five brothers, wants independence and to see the world, hates that the fate of the curse rests on his shoulders, doesn’t believe in love, rather attracted to Tessa, has a bit part in this story
* Grissell: in her 90’s, great granddaughter of the woman that cursed the Macquarie family, takes in orphans and women in need of shelter, midwife, has a huge part in this story and especially this book
* The conclusion of the recurring Pirate Jandeau thread and happy with how it ended
* The children and how well they are loved and cared for by the parents and clan
* The evolution of Aunt Ida and hearing her backstory
* Thinking about the future of those living on Wolf Isle and what will happen to them all

What I didn’t like:
* What and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about slavery-human trafficking and the impact it has on those enslaved whether by pirates or anyone else

Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Yes

Book Review: The Highlander’s Untamed Tempest by Heather McCollum

The Highlander’s Untamed Tempest has everything you could want—an ancient family curse, a mysterious woman, pirates, adventure on the high seas, and, of course, plenty of romance and spice. And no, this is not a slow burn!

The male lead, Eagan McQuarie, is determined not to follow in his brother’s footsteps on Wolf Isle. He dreams of traveling the world rather than settling down with a wife. But as fate would have it, he’s the last man standing who can break his family’s long-standing curse.

Tessa, the female protagonist, is better known as Claudette Tempest Ainsworth. She grew up with her mother in France, sometimes finding herself in the French court. After her mother’s death, she is rescued by Captain Lemaire of the French Navy, who takes her to Wolf Isle—and from there, the adventure truly begins. No spoilers here, but trust me, it’s a wild ride!

Heather McCollum excels at bringing the 16th-century Scottish Highlands to life. Her world-building, vivid descriptions, and well-developed characters create an immersive reading experience that lingers with you long after you’ve finished.

Although this is the final book in a series, I read it as a standalone, and it absolutely held its own. McCollum’s storytelling is so strong that prior knowledge of the other books isn’t necessary to enjoy this one.

I highly recommend The Highlander’s Untamed Tempest to fans of historical romance who are looking for an action-packed adventure in the Scottish Highlands.

What an adventure!

Eagan is the last remaining single Macquarie son, so it's up to him to finally break the centuries-old curse on his family. But not if he can help it. Fighting all the pressure from his brothers and their wives to settle down and get married too, he's determined to leave Wolf Isle and set out on his own adventure, curse or no curse. Just as soon as he's done helping this new midwife deliver a baby in the village.

Tessa is new to this region, having been dropped off on Wolf Isle by her navy captain father after living with her now deceased mother in France, but she took to her mother's career like a duck to water and is now the best qualified person to help. If she can stay one step ahead of the witch hunters, that is.

This story has everything to make a reader swoon. Reluctant hero, fiercely independent heroine, an assortment of villains, and a surprise twist that hit me like a frying pan to the head! I honestly never saw it coming, but once I realized what was happening I was amazed at the author's brilliance in designing this plot twist.

The writing was completely captivating, holding me spellbound until the final HEA was secured. A beautiful epilogue wraps up the entire series and gives us all the backstory necessary to understand the origins of the curse. I can't recommend this book and the entire series highly enough. If you enjoy reading Highlander romances, you don't want to miss the Macquaries of Wolf Isle. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Eagan Macquarie doesn’t believe in love & as the youngest brother doesn’t want a wife. There is an entire world beyond Wolf Isle, and he will seek it out, his bag is even packed. But the Macquarie curse will continue to haunt his family unless Eagan finds a suitable bride to break the hex once and for all. Claudette Tempest Ainsworth aka Tessa is a learned French midwife who’s been waiting for her father to come fetch her from the harsh winds and sea of Scotland and return her to her beloved France. But with Eagan, she finds something unexpected: a flame of desire, hot and almost terrifying in its intensity. Tessa seems to have bewitched them all. But then danger threatens Wolf Isle and the Macquaries.
The final book in this wonderful series, it could be read on its own but the five brothers are a delight & they’ve grown & matured so much throughout the series that I’d recommend reading in order. A fast paced, romance with strong characters. I loved both Eagan & Tessa the chemistry sizzled & I loved their journey to a HEA which wasn’t easy as there were witch finders, pirates, kidnapping. There is also the question of the curse, will it be broken? Also the Macquaries’ enemy is still to be dealt with & there’s more than one twist there. Once I’d started I read it in two sittings
I voluntarily read and reviewed a special copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own

Eagan Macquarie is the last Macquarie brother without a bride. He doesn't believe in love and is looking forward to leaving the island and getting some solitude. Except he meets the beautiful and alluring Tessa Ainsworth the night before leaving and his only plan now is to touch her as much as she'll allow. Claudette Tempest Ainsworth is a French midwife waiting for her father to return for her and take her to the life her mother always promised her they'd have. But meeting the brawny Scotsman might just make her rethink her plans, especially when the truth about her dad comes to light and everyone on Wolf Isle is in danger.

The McCollum magic is missing in this one. It has all the things I usually love, but it feels rushed and overly crowded. Even being familiar with the series, there are way too many people involved and getting their little moments for Eagan and Tessa to get the space they need to fully develop as a couple. I get that love/lust at first sight makes them realize that they're great together but I would have liked some more time with them getting to know each other beyond the insanely hot physical moments.

It's still a solid romance if you're looking for action of all kinds, but I guess I was expecting more from an author who I know can bring it when it comes to character development.

I had such a fantastic time reading The Highlander's Untamed Tempest! It's the second book by Heather McCollum I read and absolutely cements me as a fan. 4.5✨

I'm such a sucker for highlander romances, it's become my favorite sub-genre of historical romances, and this one is definitely on my list of top favorites.

The plot was engaging, the action nerve-wracking, the tension sublime, the cat heroic (!!!), and the chemistry between our leads exquisite.

I loved how it wasn't insta-love, but it was insta-lust. There is immediate attraction between Eagen and Tessa, and it doesn't take long for it to fully ignite. My sole quibble is due to the intense action that takes root in the plot, thus becoming a thrilling plot point, I didn't feel there was enough romancing. Lots of physical loving, but not as much emotionally. Nevertheless, the intimacy between Eagen and Tessa was beautiful and I wholly rooted for them!

Also, one more shout out to the cat! The cat was such a star, such a little hero! You'll see!

If you enjoy highlander historical romances, that bring a touch of magic, alluring mystery, and exhilarating action this one is definitely calling for you!

The Highlander’s Untamed Tempest is the fifth and final book in Heather McCollum’s Brothers Of Wolf Isle series and, in my opinion, is best read as part of the series because of the linking threads around a family curse. You will also become familiar with the key secondary characters, particularly the pirate Claude Jandeau, by reading the books sequentially. That said, there is enough information in this book to provide an enjoyable read if you do choose to read it as a stand-alone. I loved both Eagan Macquarie, the youngest of the brothers, and Tessa, who’s been living on Wolf Isle for a year without the brothers knowing about her until her skills as a midwife are called upon. Both are strong and independent characters, each with their own issues to address and each very clear on their passions and desires. I loved the immediate sizzle between Eagan and Tessa. The way she integrated into his family, immediately clicking with the brothers’ wives, and the way that family rallied to support these two was also something I loved. A secondary thread involving a very unpleasant witchsmeller and another involving Jandeau added spice and tension to the story, which I thoroughly enjoyed reading.

ARC Review of The Highlander's Untamed Tempest by Heather McCollum
* * * * *
An action packed final book to the series, as love breaks a curse and blood does not always mean family...expecially when that family seriously sucks.

Eagan was in no rush to marry, no matter how much his family pushes him to find a lass and fall for her. With him being the last of this brothers to find himself a companion to lift the curse that haunts his family, there is a bit of pressure.
Then a beauty appears in the midst of choas, with unlikely loyalty ties, as well as a connection to someone he did not expect.
Tessa awaits the return of her father.
After the death of her mother, he is all she has left, and she dreams of returning back to France with him. Only, it has been so long now, and she is starting to lose hope.
She should not be falling for Eagan. She will be leaving, and hurting both of their hearts is something neither of them want.
Until they realist it's too late for that.

Epic battles at sea, kidnapping and blackmail, horrific revelations, steamy nights together, cute family moments, pirates and orphans and a witch hunter. This book has got it all!
A great read I did not want to put down. Love the historical ties and the mix of languages.

If you’re in the mood for rugged highlanders, ancient curses, and a love that’s as wild as the Scottish wind, then The Highlander’s Untamed Tempest by is a storm you won’t want to miss! 🌪️💔

Eagan Macquarie’s plans of adventure are crushed when fate throws Tessa—an enchanting French midwife—right in his path.

With a curse threatening his entire clan and danger lurking at every corner of Wolf Isle, Eagan is forced to choose between love and duty. And let me tell you, the chemistry between Eagan and Tessa is fire.🔥

Tessa is a fierce, confident heroine who brings so much heart and strength to the story, and Eagan, well, he’s the swoon-worthy highlander we all dream of. Their connection builds from sizzling tension to a powerful bond that might just break the Macquarie curse once and for all.

This book has everything you want in a historical romance: steamy love scenes, a witchy mystery, dangerous pirates, and a twisty plot that keeps you hooked from start to finish.

With Heather McCollum's vivid storytelling and richly developed characters, you’ll feel like you’ve been swept right into the heart of Scotland.

🏴If you’re a fan of Highland romance, then buckle up because this one’s going to take you on a wild ride across the moors, straight to your heart.💖

The Brothers of Wolf Isle series comes to a close with the story of the youngest, Eagan Macquarie who has the choice of either breaking the long standing curse against the family or bringing it to a happier conclusion. This is a romance, so you know how it's going to go, but the fun is in the story and the characters, especially with this installment of the series.

Eagan is ready to leave his family when he meets Tessa, a young woman who some suspect as being a witch. I don't want to give any more details, but the beginning of this story just pulled me in. I've read a few in this series, and they work very well standalone, while also whetting the appetite for others in the series.

There's plenty of steamy scenes here. I liked that Tessa knew what she was doing in this area, and while they fall pretty hard pretty fast, I thought she was perfect for Eagan, especially since he had his life planned out until he meets Tessa and all those long term plans come into question.

What I love about this series including this book, and this author is that these stories are a perfect escape into another time, they are fun and sweet, with just the right touch of danger and darkness to make it interesting.

This one was not quite my cup of tea, and while I'm a fan of Heather McCollum's other series, for some reason I can't ever really get into the Wolf Isle series. This did not prove to be an exception to that.

Eagan and Tessa have a very quick lust at first sight that is never really given time to develop any further beyond that, which is a shame since there was definitely room for both characters to stretch themselves but it feels like that was traded in for the sake of plot mechanics happening very quickly. The book definitely experiences a shift once it moves on from the threat of a witch hunter to the threat of Jandeau, the overall villain of the series, and it feels like neither of these plots gets the full attention of the book. Ultimately, I would rather be reading about the relationship between Ida and Rabbie instead of the one between Eagan and Tessa. It is definitely not helped by the fact that Tessa goes from very aware of the world to being willfully naive for a good section just because that would benefit the plot.

Egan is the last of the Macquerie brothers who need to wed to break the curse of Wolff Isle, and every single one of his brothers and their spouses won't let him forget that fact for one minute. With them constantly telling him who he should wed, all he wants to do is escape the Isle. Well, fate has other plans when it places Tess in his path. Hidden from the MacQueries for the past year, and studying to take over Griselda's orphanage and healing she is instantly intriguing to Egan, and he may have to hang around to get to know her a bit better.

A lot happens in this as it's the conclusion to this series. We get a showdown between the clan and you know who (if you've been following the series) Tessa and Egan's relationship did happen very quickly after their first meeting, and while I prefer more of a slow burn, or at least more of a slow burn than an instant I did enjoy these two together.

This is a fast-paced book with quite a bit of action and a great romance. I thought this was a pretty great conclusion to the series and can't wait to see what Heather McCollum will write next.

This book, the final in the Brothers of Wolff Isle series, can easily be read as a standalone...but why would you want to. From Adam (the oldest) to Eagan (the youngest) I loved each of the brothers love stories. Untamed Tempest was no exception and it was so fun to revisit the island and characters with an ending to the series that was so satisfying!

Eagan, the youngest of the Wolff Isle brothers is done with the pressure his family keeps putting on him. Pressure to fall in love. Pressure to get married. Pressure to break the family curse. Add in that he is a grown man but still treated like the youngest and he is ready to pack his bags and start fresh somewhere else. But fate, in the form of a beauty named Tessa, has other plans. They are quickly drawn together but will they find forever?

If you are looking for a fun and easy read that has well developed characters and an easy plot line to follow this is a perfect read. I recommend all Heather McCollum books for this reason.

Eagan thinks he’ll escape the curse of love. He figures that the curse of Wolf Isle is done and over since his siblings have all found love and are reproducing, so he can leave to find a solitary life of his own. But the problem with thinking and planning is that sometimes, Fate laughs. And boy, is it a big laugh.

Tessa isn’t looking for love. She’s waiting for family. But she’s now squarely in the path of love. And Eagan. And while they definitely fall, the landing is going to truly hurt because not all is as it seems and some facades are deadly.

I knew that there’s got to be a way through this and that not only would Eagan save some people, Tessa would also. After all, this series is full of strong women and the men who love them. But you know what had me worried? The fate of Sia. Yup. A toesy kitty had me so worried several times! But this is n excellent story of love, loss, lies, redemption, living, and moving on when the hard work is done. And while I worried more than once, I wouldn’t want this tale to have gone any other way!

This was underwhelming for me. I've been more into Scottish-romances recently, and was hoping this would hit the spot for me, but it did not.

A big problem for me was the insta-love between Eagan and Tessa. I get that they were hooking-up for two weeks that we didn't see, but come on. There's no way you can love someone that quickly.

The storyline itself was fine I guess. I haven't read any of the other books in the series, so I wasn't very invested in the curse or Jandeau. If I had read the previous books, I probably would have liked this one a lot more. It also just didn't make sense for Tessa's father to leave her on the island, like at all. Even when you find out more about who he is, it still does not make sense to me. Also, in the beginning the author makes it seem like Tessa is this awesome midwife, but then after the first few chapters it's never mentioned again. It made me kind of mad since being a midwife is really cool and not something I've seen in a lot of historical romances.

Another issue I had was the inconsistencies between the timeline. At the beginning it was set in 1550, but then later in the book Tessa mentions walking the Versailles grounds. Construction at Versaille didn't begin until 1631, so the only grounds she could have been walking in 1550 were the decrepit old hunting grounds that became the Palace of Versailles. The author/editor need to do some historical fact checking in the future.
