I heard Kent Evans speak recently. He laid out the premise of the book and briefly presented four reasons why we bench ourselves and four ways we can get back into the game. Each man in the audience had been given a free copy of his book, and I was anxious to read it after the talk. This book is very helpful to fathers, husbands, leaders, and followers.

My best friend has helped me appreciate baseball more in my retirement. Taking in a game with him or having a discussion about great players is a lot of fun. Failure and feeling like one aren't fun, but Kent Evans' book constructively teaches us how to correct our pitfalls and encourages us to not give up, to realize how important we are to the team, but also we cannot do it all alone. Get back into the game and encourage others with your behavior after your home runs as well as all the times you struck out. Take me out to the ball game - not take me out of it. And don't send yourself to the dugout when everyone wants and needs you back on the field.
