There was a part of me that didn’t want to read this book. Simply because I knew it was the last one in the series and it would be time to part ways with Holly Berry and her sweet shop. Goodbyes are so hard! Thankfully, however, Lynn gives Holly the send off she deserves (and I was incredibly grateful it wasn’t the tear-jerker we saw earlier on in the series).

It’s the “will they or won’t they?” theme in this book, whereby long-term character, Giles, is orbiting Holly and her daughter’s lives. When Giles announces his engagement to his fairly new girlfriend, Holly is forced to question her feelings for Giles. Is he really just a very good friend, or does she have deeper feelings? Despite everyone in her friendship circle convinced that they are madly in love with one another, Giles and Holly’s actions seem to push each other away. Will Holly find her own happy ever after, or will it be Giles heading off into the sunset?

I enjoyed this book because, once again, it still felt different and fresh, even though there has been so many books in the series. The sweet shop does not take centre stage as much this time as Lynn focuses on the relationships between our central characters. Several years have passed since the last book and it was great to see how Hope has grown up and that Holly has established a balanced life with co-parenting with Ben.

Yet, Evan’s presence still hovers over the story and I could really feel Holly’s grief radiating from the pages. People around her have moved on but she feels disloyal to Evan’s memory should she do the same. Giles’ engagement is a reminder of what she almost had and lost and I think this is what drives Holly to react against Sienna.

Sienna’s weekend break away was entertaining, although I really sympathised with Holly’s frustrations. It is the turning point in Holly’s attitude and from this weekend, characters show their true colours. I admired Holly for speaking her mind but was cringing from how truths were revealed in the heat of the moment. Indeed, it foreshadowed what happened later in the novel in Anglesey, where the storm of emotions push Holly to breaking point.

A fantastic end of series, I am sorry to see it over. I certainly don’t think there was any more miles in this series and it’s definitely a story I would return to again in the future for guaranteed love, smiles and sweetness.

With thanks to Boldwood books and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Another lovely book in this series. This is such a great story with all the usual characters and some new ones. I'm hoping there will be another one to come as I'm eager to find out what happens next. This is book 8 in the series, although the first book in the series that I have read. This didn’t spoil the enjoyment at all, and it reads really well as a standalone book.

Holly’s world is rocked when her best friend proposes to his girlfriend of six months, a woman who she feels is very wrong for him. Can she change his mind, and does she want to change his mind because she feels the woman is wrong for him or because she has feelings for him?

This is a lovely little book, with some great characters who make a strong friendship group. Holly is a wonderful character who you find yourself fully rooting for, and who you feel passionately for. The book moves along at a good pace with some really interesting scenes and some funny moments. Alongside these moments there are some really poignant scenes that leaves you feeling strongly for the characters. There is also a great ending leaving you with a feel good factor.

This book will definitely lead me to getting hold of the other books in the series to see how the characters got to where they are.

It’s quite a short book but well worth a couple of days of anyone’s time.

Happy Ever After at the Second Chances Sweet Shop is the eighth book in the Holly Berry Sweet Shop series. I have not read any of the previous books, and will be doing so as soon as possible. I'm not going to lie, parts of the book didn't make sense to me but only because I think they must have referenced a previous book in the series. This didn't detract from the story since I mostly figured everything out but I would definitely recommend reading the Holly Berry Sweet Shop books in order.

Love is in the air in Happy Ever After at the Second Chance Sweet Shop, but it isn't necessarily the best type of love or the kind of love anyone is expecting. Her bestie, Giles, just announced his engagement to a new person to the group. Sienna and Giles haven't been together very long (in Giles relationship terms) but yet he drops to one knee in front of their entire friend group and asks for her hand. Now Holly is faced the reality that her friendship with Giles may change, and she finally admits what her heart has been trying to tell her all along. But she might be too late.

I really enjoyed this story. I may not have a lot of the backstory but I loved the path carved out for a second chance romance. Holly gets into a few situations where she's unable to stand up or defend herself, which only makes her eventual assertiveness shine. When she finally gets the chance, she lets the person know her feelings. I love Giles and completely understand where he's coming from regarding his engagement to Sienna. You can only wait for someone for so long before moving on and, in many cases, when the person finally recognizes their feelings, love sometimes just isn't enough.

Broken hearts, longing, and manipulation fill this story. The story is also filled with love, compassion, realization, friendship, and support. Sometimes things just don't work out, other times, they work out just like they should, and sometimes you get a mix of both. I've been in Holly's shoes and when I finally realized what my feelings truly were, it was too late. There wasn't any reconciliation or even coming back together as friends. That actually worked out for the best for me. Now I'm married to an amazing man and our relationship is much better than the one I thought I missed out on.

Leave it to me to start the series with the final book...Lol. I never used to be this way. I was very strict about reading books in order, but lately I just start a series as soon as I discover it. I'll go back to the beginning eventually, but I can't wait to meet the characters and explore the locations, and so now, I don't wait.

The eighth book is probably a bad place to start with a series. However, I’ve come in late with others and not had many problems. Sadly, the same cannot be said for this instalment of the Holly Berry Sweet Shop series – you really do need to have read the previous ones to have any idea what’s going on at first. I did eventually find my balance, but I still didn’t gel with the story.

First off is Holly. I understand being close to someone and not realising that your feelings go deeper. Holly has also had heartbreak, which makes her put her head in the sand even more. I’ll note that her hurt is not explained in this book – all you know is his name was Evan and he’s dead. No idea how or why.

Anyway, Holly. She has a child, but not with Evan. There was a one-night-stand (I think) with another guy, but they still get on and share childcare duties. He’s got married and Holly is friends with his wife. In fact, she has a tight circle of friends, most of whom have paired off.

She’s supposed to be 40, if I recall correctly, but her behaviour is very immature. She absolutely refuses to entertain that she might feel more towards Giles than friendship. Her friends are awful about this – seeing how well Holly and Giles get on but pussy-footing around the subject after Giles announces his engagement.

As Happy Ever After at the Second Chances Sweet Shop is only told from Holly’s POV, you don’t get to know how Giles met Sienna. Unless that’s in another book. Typical for romances lately, the “other woman” is a complete bitch. Shallow as a puddle with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Without the backstory, one is left wondering why Giles is dating her, never mind proposing.

And here is my problem with this book: there are mentions over and over of things that have happened in others, but no context for the story. It’s a shame because, Holly’s weird blinkeredness aside, the writing is really good. I kept reading because of that… and in the hope that someone would slap Sienna.

There is very little action in the sweet shop that the title mentions. Very little sense of place (the Cotswolds, apparently) and this lack is disappointing. I like to lose myself in a romance and I just couldn’t do that.

However, I will note again that I have not read the other books. Read in order, I might feel somewhat differently. If you haven’t read this series, I definitely recommend starting at the beginning!

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this E-ARC, in exchange for an honest review.

This latest installment in the Love is in the Air series is just as cozy and heartwarming as you’d hope! It’s a light, romantic read—perfect for when you want something sweet and uplifting.

Holly has been through a lot, but things are finally falling into place. Her daughter, Hope, is thriving, her home is exactly how she envisioned it, and an exciting opportunity could take her sweet shop, Just One More, to new heights. But just when life seems settled, her best friend, Giles, drops a surprise—he’s engaged to Sienna, a woman Holly barely knows (and isn’t sure is the right match for him). Determined to be supportive, she throws herself into wedding planning, but can’t shake the nagging feeling that something isn’t quite right. Is it just about Giles and Sienna, or is Holly ignoring her own heart?

While this book can technically be read on its own, you’ll get the most out of it if you’ve read the previous ones in the series. There are some predictable moments, but honestly, that’s part of the charm—it’s like settling into your favorite feel-good movie. If you love small-town romance, a touch of drama, and a happily ever after, this one’s worth picking up!

I'm sorry to see this series has come to an end. I mean a series with a focal point of a sweet shop, there's something just magical about that. I think we all love to visit a sweet shop and the series has been so much fun. I've loved getting to know Holly. She's gone through some ups and downs but she's resilient and lands on her feet. She's had the help of her friends to get her through her rough patches for sure and she also has a lovely daughter Hope that we met a few books back. Once again she's hit a rough patch in this book and it's not even due to her sweet shop. Her personal life has taken a surprise turn and left her feeling surprised and in shambles.
Best friends are great to have, they're there for you and make you hold your chin up when times are rough. What if your best friend throws a curve ball in the mix like Giles does with Holly and proposes to someone else just when you are admitting to yourself that your interest may have gone past the friend zone?
Will Holly have a chance to convince Giles to take a chance on her or is it too late for a second chance for them?
I highly recommend starting at the beginning of the series and just binge reading the whole series, no regrets it's just that great. This is a feel good, unputdownable series.

I was given a complimentary copy of this series.

In the final book in the Second Chances Sweet Shop series, readers reunite with Holly as she finally adjusts to her new normal with her daughter Hope. With a beautiful home, a happy daughter, and an unexpected opportunity for the shop, Holly is really happy until her best friend Giles proposes to Sienna, someone Holly barely knows but definitely isn’t right for Giles. Choosing to make peace with Sienna for Giles, Holly joins in on the wedding planning despite questioning whether her doubts are about Sienna and Giles or about Holly and her own worries. A fantastic conclusion to this charming and entertaining series, readers will love learning what is in store for Holly, Giles, Hope, and the Just One More sweet shop. The details and character relationships continue to pull readers into the story, and the incredible attention to detail really brings the store and the Cotswolds location to life. Fans of Lynn’s other books will definitely enjoy the final book in this series, which wraps up plot lines, character arcs, and relationships in an incredibly satisfying way. Fun, entertaining, and charming, readers will love the character-centric narratives and the beautiful location of this incredible cozy romance series from Hannah Lynn.

Happy Ever After at the Second Chances Sweet Shop by Hannah M. Lynn

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to Rachel's Random Resources and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Blurb

After difficult times, Holly is finally adjusting to her new normal. Her daughter Hope is happy, she’s created a beautiful home, and an unexpected offer may mean fantastic opportunities for her sweet shop, Just One More.

But her sense of calm is shattered when best friend Giles drops a bombshell – a proposal to Sienna, a woman Holly barely knows and who isn’t right for Giles at all.

For Giles’s sake, she tries to make peace with Sienna, throwing herself into wedding planning. But as everyone else cheers on the ‘happy’ couple, Holly’s left questioning whether her doubts are about them – or about something in her own heart…

My Opinion

This is a series that I am definitely not reading in order but I have had no issues following the plot – although I would recommend reading the books in order. With this series Hannah Lynn has become a must-read author for me. Happy Ever After at the Second Chances Sweet Shop was a sweet, charming read with some great characters. Hannah Lynn has once again written a lovely book.

After losing her fiance 10 years previously, Holly is adjusting to her new world with her gorgeous young daughter, a thriving sweet shop and wonderful friends around her, including her best friend Giles. At least, until he announced his engagement to Sienna, who Holly takes an instant dislike to, which only intensifies when she realizes Sienna is deceptive and manipulative. Holly eventually had to face the facts that her feelings for Giles run deeper than friendship and she may have missed her chance at a future with him.

I've given this review a 4 Star rating - it's a sweet, warm and light-hearted romantic read including lovely characters and a charming setting that leaves you with a warm feeling at the end of the story. If you enjoy this type of easy read, you would absolutely enjoy this book which isn't too challenging and the type of read you can curl up with, why and get a little lost in. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily and it reflects my personal opinion.
This final book starts a considerable period after the last one ended. 5 years have passed and the first few pages summarise events within that period, then the story starts. The usual characters are around plus a few new ones. There is little mention of lovely Bourton, or even the sweet shop. I thought parts of this story were unrealistic: the American family, which she'd only just met in the last book, were barely mentioned, and why hadn't Sienna met Faye as she lives close to Giles, surely he'd have introduced them when he was considering the marriage proposal? I thought Holly's thoughts and behaviours were completely selfish, making her unlikeable. It seems other reviewers liked this book but I didn't think it was the best in the series and although it tied up loose ends I wouldn't have wanted to read any more if it hadn't been the finale.

In this the latest (last?) book in the series Holly finds out that her best friend Giles has become engaged to Sienna, who she hasn't met before. Talking an instant dislike to her this causes friction between Holy and Giles and makes her reconsider her relationship to him.
You should really read the previous books in the series to fully understand the various characters in this book, although it can be read as a standalone. The story is one where you rely wasn't to bang the two main character's heads together as they cannot admit their feelings for each other. I couldn't take to Sienna either, she did come across as a the type that I can't relate to, but then Holly and Giles both have their problems as well. At least they have a close circle of friends to support them both. A series that I have enjoyed and hope that something similar comes along soon.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.

Happy Ever After at the Second Chances Sweet Shop= a perfect cute and feel good read!!

If you’ve been following the Holly Berry Sweet Shop Series, this is a must read!

You have your small town vibes romance. Holly has amazing friends and a close relationship with all of them. As close as some of them knowing who you are destined to be with after losing the love of your life after such a tragic death. If you don’t know, please read the books prior to comprehend. But honestly, you can read this as a stand alone to get most of it.

Some predictable moments, but honestly that’s what makes it a feel good and quick read at the same time as completing your Holly Berry sweet shop fix!

Overall good spring/summer read and will be smiling in the end. Happy reading!!

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing this AMAZING ARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own, and I do not accept money for any reviews.

In this final instalment in the series, you get to see how Holly's life has evolved since Evan's tragic death. She been supported as ever, by her friends and family, none more so than by Giles who she regards as her closest friend in many ways. When Giles has some surprising news for her, her sense of reality takes a jolt and she spends the rest of the story coming to terms with her emotions and wishes for the future.
By the end of the story, you feel that Holy's life in the Cotswolds has reached a stable plain and that she will continue to thrive and to prosper. Before she gets to that stage, Holly tries to protect her life from more heartbreak. Her daughter is growing up a little but she has plenty to occupy her and some great plans for the business. With a gorgeous setting and a range of characters, you find humour and romance side by side in this gentle story.
In short: Friends and lovers

It is nice dropping in and visiting Holly once again. She has her sweet shop. Just One More, doing good, her daughter is happy, and she has some wonderful friends, along with best friend Giles. Giles has been dating a woman named Sienna, and out of the blue, he asks her to marry him. It got real interesting after that. Sometimes, I thought, love is blind, but really? There was some stumbling going on, there were awkward moments, some stubbornness, and Hannah Lynn does know how to write as their journey unfolds. That is what I feel when I read the first book, and again with this one. She is sitting there with them, and she writes, as things unfold so naturally.
I received an ARC from Boldwood Books through NetGalley. I hope Hannah Lynn continues this series, there is so much more of their life to unfold.

Unreal history and Chemistry.

This one gets my award for most mixed feelings. There was so much good about this book. There was:
Humor
Grief
Close knit group of friends
Single Mom
He Falls first
Only One Bed
The history between the Holly and Giles leads to chemistry that is undeniable and you can't help but root for them.

If it wasn't for the cheating. It's just not my thing. I can't stand it and it makes things so messy and usually makes characters get a little crazy and it was the only thing that I just truly did not enjoy about this story.

All other parts of the story were great!!!

Thank you to Net Galley, Boldwood Books, and Hannah Lynn for letting me read an ARC of this book!

Even as a newcomer to the series, I instantly fell in love with the characters and the story. Holly’s journey is filled with heartfelt moments, gentle humor, and the kind of emotional growth that sneaks up on you in the most wonderful way.

Her life seems picture-perfect—until her best friend’s surprise engagement stirs up unexpected feelings and forces her to confront her own heart. The setting is warm and inviting, the romance is sweet and sincere, and the ending left me smiling. This was everything I hoped for in a feel-good romance, and now I can’t wait to go back and read the earlier books!

Happy Ever After at the Second Chances Sweet Shop by Hannah Lynn was such a wholesome, cozy surprise! 🫶🍬

I haven’t read the other books in the series yet, but after this one?? I definitely want to go back and binge them all 💖📚

This was such a lovely small-town romance with just enough emotional depth to pull at your heartstrings 💭💘
Holly’s juggling her sweet shop, being a single mum, and trying to keep her cool when her best friend suddenly announces he’s getting married… to someone she barely knows 😬💍

It’s soft, hopeful, and the kind of story that makes you want to curl up with a blanket and a cup of tea ☕🍂 I didn’t quite hit 5 stars for me, but it was still such a warm, comforting read and I’m so glad I picked it up 💜

Holly’s best friend Giles proposes to his girlfriend, sending Holly into a crisis because she knows this woman is not right for Giles. But is that really why she’s upset? This was a cute story. I haven’t read the previous seven books so I didn’t quite get who all the characters were and how they fit into the story at first, but it became clear as I got further into the book. Once I got the characters sorted, it didn’t hurt the story that I hadn’t read the previous books. I was still fully invested. I liked both characters a lot and was fully vested in Holly’s story

I'm sorry this is the last book as I've really enjoyed them.

After the heartbreak of the last book it was good that this one was lighter, but also not without drama.

It was great to be back with Holly, Hope and friends and we had a new addition in the form of Giles’s girlfriend/fiancée Sienna. Holly doesn't feel Sienna is the right person for Giles and unfortunately I didn't really like the way Holly treated her. She came across as nasty and childish at times.

It was nice that Holly and Giles finally have come the full circle and I'm glad we had a good ending for them both.

Thank you to the author, Boldwood Books and Rachel's Random Resources for my gifted copy and spot on the tour.

I have adored each and every book in The Second Chances Sweet Shop series and I'm absolutely gutted that it's over.

We've come full circle with Holly and see her through so many pivotal moments in her life. The highs, the lows and the heartbreaks and those moments of joy, so it seems a fitting end.

A return visit to Just One More is always welcome...who doesn't love a good old fashioned sweet shop where you can buy a paper twist of sweets, a sugar mouse or Humbugs from a jar?

It was so lovely to catch up with Holly and some old faces, some new. I have become so emotionally invested in these characters over time it's going to be hard to say goodbye.

A charming and enjoyable read.

Rounded up from 3.5 stars.

I had a hard time figuring out what the character relationships were to the MC but once I was able to figure that out, it was very sweet. It is a cute and cozy read reminiscent of the Dream Harbor series. I immediately was enthralled with Holly’s relationship with Giles and thought Sienna was super obnoxious and I wondered what he saw in her. I was waiting with bated breath for her to admit she had feelings for him. I’m happy she is beginning to move on from her loss and giving Hope a full family. I read this in one day, it was so quick and easy to fall for.

Seven years after Evan's death & Holly's life has settled into a new norm, which includes rolling her eyes at her good friend Giles as he dates his way through women who are never good enough for him. Until, that is, he proposes to his latest girlfriend, who's mostly definitely wrong for him. Why is it he can't see how wrong his fiancé is for him and no Holly's not in love with him? And why is she so upset and possibly jealous? It's a fun, quick read about enjoyable familiar characters.

I just finished Happy Ever After at the Second Chances Sweet Shop by Hannah Lynn, and it honestly made my heart so happy. The setting in the Cotswolds is super cozy, and I totally fell in love with Holly—she’s such a sweet, strong character trying to balance everything from running her adorable sweet shop to figuring out love and family stuff.

It felt like a warm hug in book form, with just the right amount of drama and romance. If you’re in the mood for something light, heartwarming, and totally charming, this one’s a little gem.

Another great book by Hannah! This is the 8th in the series I have really enjoyed every book! This is an easy read, with super short chapters, which will have you smiling throughout. I could say so much about this book but I don’t want to ruin it for anyone who hasn’t read the others! I continued to love all the characters and what I loved about this series is how it isn’t your romance type book! This is a series I would probably read again as I loved it so much!

This is a last book in a series of interconnected stand alones and as the title suggests, it was so sweet! This was the first one that I have read in the series and I want to go back and read more! A wonderful mix of emotions and I love a short, sweet read. 4 stars! *I received a complimentary ARC from the author/publishing company via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

Another instalment in the sweet shop saga. Holly and her daughter Hope have lived 3 years following Ewan’s death. Her best friend Giles has got engaged it then Holly has a light bulb moment about her relationship with Giles. A lot of ups and downs and a bit of a cheesy end but it couldn’t be any other way. Thanks to Hannah for great characters and her publisher.
