Andi Boggs #2

Andi Under Pressure

Rate this book
Twelve-year-old Andora 'Andi' Boggs and her new best friend Colin Carter couldn't be more excited to attend the prestigious science camp at the local university in Killdeer, Ohio. Unfortunately, Discovery Camp's curriculum appears to include much more than just chemistry and biology. From day one, the university is plagued by a series of pranks---missing markers, loose crickets, and stolen scales. Campus security blames the mysterious janitor Polk, but even though Andi agrees he's acting suspicious, she can't believe the gentle old man would do anything illegal. Then one prank goes too far and their chemistry professor is injured by an explosion in the lab, upping the stakes of the investigation. Andi and Colin must unravel the secrets behind the chemistry department and Polk's dark past before danger closes the camp for good. Praise for the series: 2013 Agatha Award Nominee 'In the upstanding tradition of Nancy Drew and Harriet the Spy, Andi is spunky and unafraid to take risks' -- Booklist 'A fun little detective story with some simple life lessons.' -- Kirkus Reviews 'Flower creates a cast of memorable characters and a colorful, historically detailed setting.' -- Publishers Weekly

Series: Book #2 in the “Andi Boggs” series. {Books #1, “Andi Unexpected”, review Here! Book #3, “Andi Undaunted” will be coming out next fall.}

Spiritual Content- There actually was no Spiritual Content at all.

Negative Content- Minor cussing including: a ‘dumb’, a ‘screw’, a ‘sheesh’, a ‘shoddy’, a ‘shush’, a ‘shut up’; Andi is called a ‘suck-up’; a mention of meth labs; Framing & Stealing; The professor gets hurt but it’s barely above not-detailed; Andi & Ava don’t get along; A man was killed 40 years ago in an explosion (not-detailed). *Note: Aunt Amelie does yoga.

Sexual Content- Bethany says that Andi likes Colin (but Andi comes back with that they’re just friends, which they are); Bethany later calls them Boyfriend & Girlfriend (which they aren’t)

{Lowered for lack of Spiritual Content}

There were many parts where I was laughing so hard! But, once I finished the book I looked at my Spiritual Content section—empty. That’s why “Andi Under Pressure” didn’t get five stars, though it was a good book. I hope the next book in the “Andi Boggs” series has Andi’s Faith growing.

While I thought the first book in the series was a bit more engaging, this one is good, and it’s a great read for that middle-grade reader who enjoys a mystery but doesn’t want to be scared to death by explicit death, blood, and gore scenes.

Andi and her friend, Colin, are at a summer science camp hosted by the local university as the book opens. But it’s clear that someone wants to interfere with the workings of the chemistry department. Someone moves supplies around unbeknownst to the instructor, and some of those supplies go missing. Someone scatters a cavalcade of crickets used for experiments around the lab. Andi and Carter work at figuring out who would have the necessary motivation to interfere with the lab. But when a Bunsen burner malfunctions and injures a teacher, the unknown perpetrator endangers the summer science camp’s very existence.

There’s a scene here between Andi, Colin, and a university security guard that I found unrealistic to the point of untenability. The universities of which I’m aware of serious protection protocols for visiting youngsters, and there’s no way he would get away with some of his heavy-handed silliness in the real world. Otherwise, this was a fun book that consumed a tiny amount of a Sunday afternoon.

This was a cute middle grade mystery. I haven't read the first one, but I was able to understand and enjoy this one on its own. I'm sure I would have understood the family dynamics a little better, but enough was explained that I didn't feel like I was missing anything important. The resolution came a bit too quickly and Andi and Colin weren't quite as instrumental in it as I expected. It was definitely more realistic having the adults more involved, but in this sort of kid mystery genre I'm used to the kids being more important in the final reveal. But maybe that's just the way I read it.

While attending Science Camp being held at the local college Colin and Andi disco.ver someone is sabotaging the camp and causing Security to blame the Janitor, Mr. Polk Although Mr. Polk does behave as though he is hiding something they don't believe he is the one causing all the trouble. The two begin to eavesdropping on conversations to try and find who is really behind various pranks disrupting the camp. As they search for clues to find the true culprit and clear the kindly janitor Colin and Andi try to enjoy camp, but the continuing pranks make that difficult.

Amanda Flower has developed some very charming characters reminiscent of a younger Nancy Drew and Ned. It is a clean, easy mystery for young readers as well as the young at heart. I too enjoy still reading the old Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew Mysteries from my childhood (I still have them and the Honey Bunch and Cherry Ames and a few others that I can share with the generations coming behind mine.) I have been able to share the Andi Boggs series with my great-nieces and nephews and so far there has been surprisingly no negatives raised by them. From Sean, age 7 to Amber age 12 each said they liked Andi and Colin, and wished they could know someone like them. We are all looking forward to sharing book 3 in the series, Andi Unstoppable which came out in October 2015. If you missed Andi Unexpected, book one in the series, I would recommend reading it to fill in a few questions you may feel about previous event mentioned in Andi Under Pressure. I think there is enough information provided to keep you on course in the story, but if you are like me you do not like not knowing exactly what led up to the current status of characters in a series. Enjoy Andi Boggs Books no matter what your age. Take an hour or two to indulge the youngster you have hiding inside and remember the hours of curled up under a tree reading the afternoon away.

My Review:

Attending a Science camp--Discovery Camp, was suppose to be fun but Andi and Colin find themselves, once again on an investigation. Due to missing markers, loose crickets, and a stolen scale security at the camp is kicked in to high gear. Andi and Colin start to search for any clues that would lead them to anything behind these very mysterious pranks. But after the chemistry professor is injured due to an explosion in the lab, the security team tries to blame Polk, the janitor. As every explanation that they could come up with seems to go up in smoke, the two investigators find themselves in a pickle as to what to do now.

As the two-man investigation team start digging deep for clues, there are threats of the camp being shut down for good. Andi and Colin make a race against the clock to find the real culprit so that poor Polk can be cleared of any wrong doing. Andi Under Pressure, is recommended for middle school children and is part of a series that is well worth a look, here is a link to learn more.

An exploding lab... ok, that got my attention! Have you ever attended a summer camp? Would you consider attending a summer camp on a University campus and it would be all about science? Summer time is usually spent having fun, swimming, BBQ's, goofing around with friends and staying up late. Right?

Well Andi is not doing most of those things. She has just moved in with her Aunt Amelia, who by the way has enrolled her in a summer science camp for the "best and brightest" young minds. Not only is Andi trying to re-adjust since her parents death, at camp she has many questioning why she was allowed into the camp once the deadline had passed.

There are so many delightful characters at camp. Of course there is Andi who is very intelligent, quick witted, and quite inquisitive... questioning everything. She thinks "outside of the box," and wonders about everyone. Colin is her new neighbor, he lives with his grandmother and will be a loyal friend and co-conspirator. Dylan is a sophomore chemistry major who is a camp counselor with just enough insight to be keeping an eye on both Andi and Colin. Then there is Ava, who is resentful and rather snooty towards all things concerning Andi.

Now consider the many "mysterious" happenings within the science labs. Andi is sure that all of the missing items are some type of prank, which by the way, includes letting lab animals loose. The chaos ramps up with a science experiment exploding. How is the campus grounds keeper involved. Polk is a bit odd... but would he really create an explosion in the science lab?

This mystery quickly unfolds, the settings are perfected with interesting details that will keep you guessing. The characters are a delight, very personal, and not quickly forgotten. The premise of a middle school science camp is an excellent non-traditional setting that will inspire many readers who are "science-minded." With so many alluring science-fiction story lines, it is refreshing to have a mystery trail that leads into a lab setting.

This is not the first Andi Boggs novel, I can't wait to read more of her adventures as she continues her scientific inquiries,
Enjoy your discoveries...

Andora (Andi) Boggs a 12-year-old and her new best friend, Colin Carter is excited to be chosen to attend science camp at a local university in Killdeer, Ohio.

From the first day weird things are happening, like missing markers, stolen scales and crickets being let loose, but things go too far when the chemistry professor is injured in an explosion in the lab. Campus security thinks janitor Polk is responsible because he is a little weird, but Andi is not so sure. Being weird doesn’t mean you are guilty so she and Colin try to unravel the mystery before the danger ends camp for good.

Love, love, loved this book. It was filled with twists and turns that made it fun to keep turning the pages to find out what would happen next and how Andi and Colin would deal with it. What a great modern-day Nancy Drewish book for Tweens. Being a Fan of Nancy Drew when I was a few years younger, this is a perfect series for anyone who wants to introduce their child to a good clean mystery series that portrays positive goals, honesty and integrity.

I can’t wait to introduce my grandchild to the Andi series. I think she’s going to love it as much as I loved reading it.

Although this is the first Amanda Flower book I have read and reviewed, it definitely won’t be my last one.

ANDI UNDER PRESSURE is the second book in the An Andi Boggs series. Andi Unexpected is the first book. I didn’t read Andi Unexpected, but I wasn’t lost at all in this book.

ANDI UNDER PRESSURE is a really good suspense. I really liked it. I never would have expected who the ‘bad guy’ really was! It kept me guessing all the way through. It wasn’t scary and I felt comfortable reading it at night. I recommend it to kids that like mystery and suspense. The faith message was almost nonexistent, so even good for not Christian kids ages 8 – 12. Available in ebook and in hardcover. 176 pages.

When I was a pre-teen I fell in love with the popular mysteries of the day like Trixie Beldon, Nancy Drew, and even The Boxcar Children. Now that I have grandchildren old enough to read we've been enjoying those old classics, but I must admit they are dated in spots.

We recently were introduced to the Andi Boggs series and it has been the answer to our outdated dilema. Andi is a delightfully precocious 12 year-old that is just brimming with curiosity. The first book in the series is entitled Andi Unexpected. It introduces all of the characters and has a wonderfully engaging mystery that the characters solve.

In book two, Andi Under Pressure, we meet back up with Andi and her friend Colin. They have been selected to attend a prestigious science camp called Discovery Camp. They are both excited to attend but soon after they arrive mysterious things begin to happen. The curious duo quickly dive in to investigate what is going on.

I enjoyed so much about this book. The characters are wholesome and display qualities that you would like for your children to emulate. My grands were engaged with the story and kept asking for just one more chapter. It was fun to listen to their guesses at what was really going on. If you have young mystery lovers in your life this would be a great book for them. While both of the books are related they can each be read as a stand-alone.

I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

Andi Under Pressure was a fun middle grade mystery. Like the first book, Andi Unexpected, it reminded me of Nancy Drew books and I really enjoyed it. Growing up I loved Nancy Drew mysteries, so it was really fun to read this quick, easy novel.

The characters, mystery, and writing style were great and the story held my interest. I recommend this book to both young readers and adults who enjoy these types of reads. I'm looking forward to more Andi Boggs novels.

The Andi Boggs series remind me a lot of the popular Nancy Drew books from when I was a kid. They are fun mysteries but tween style! I also gave this to my nine year old niece to read and review. She said that she was confused at first. I think that's normal for mysteries as the story is lain out and the mystery begins to unfold. Andi Under Pressure is also a book in a series so she wasn't familiar with the characters or premise.

While I find these types of books are often harder to get into; they are usually the ones you have a hard time putting down.

Andi is also twelve years old and so this book might be better suited for those closer to her age. Just a few years among readers can make a huge difference so it's important to get the age group right.

I like that these mysteries involve things like pranks and stolen items because they are age appropriate mysteries and not anything that will scare young readers like the murder mysteries I read! Andi is quite the little detective and figures out clues along the way. The fact that she was at science camp brought me back to that age and time in my life and I remember well the thoughts and feelings of girls this age!

Andi Under Pressure is a cute mystery that would be perfect for young girls in middle school who enjoy a good mystery!

Andi Under Pressure is the second book in the Andi Boggs series by Amanda Flower.

It isn't easy for an almost retired grandma to put herself in the role of a middle-school student, but that is exactly what it took to read -- and enjoy -- Andi Under Pressure! And it was fun, too!

The writing style not only suits the age group it's written for, but parents will love reading these stories to their children at bedtime. And the children will love the stories!

The books are exciting -- without being too scary; they're educational, with lots of information children will enjoy learning; plus it's easy for children to see themselves in the role of Andi or Colin!

Amanda Flower does a superb job with these characters… Andi and her new best friend Colin, their families, and friends they meet along the way. The continuity is excellent -- I find myself wondering what the next mystery will be!

If you’re looking for some great additions to your home library, be sure to add the Andi Boggs series... beginning with Andi Unexpected… and Andi Under Pressure!

I’m hoping to hear about another new sequel any day…

Don’t miss this series!

I love a mystery. My first experience with mystery novels was, of course, Nancy Drew. I loved becoming part of a team uncovering clues to solve a case. For a new generation, Amanda Flower has created Andi Boggs and her case-solving adventures. In book 2 in the series, Andi Under Pressure, the young sleuth and her partner, Colin Carter, look into the mishaps at a summer science camp. The slightly nerdy duo are tenacious in their quest for answers.

Andi Under Pressure is perfect for girls. The heroine is a math and science whiz finding her way in a new town and family. Andi’s parents were killed in a plane crash, and she and her sister must now make a home with her aunt. Readers will have a lot to think about besides the mystery — what makes a family and what is important in our closest relationships. The pitfalls of being the new kid are explored as well.

So if you are looking for a book to please the mystery-loving child in your life, be sure to check out Andi Under Pressure.

Recommended.

Audience: kids ages 8-12.

Andi and Colin are attending a summer science camp held at the local college. Amateur sleuths, they're about to delve into mysterious events surrounding the science department. Andi and Colin's capers bring to mind stories of Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys from my childhood.

Amanda Flower uses many innovative elements in her stories concerning Andi and her best friend, Colin. The sweet innocence portrayed in these short novels is exemplary. Childhood is presented as it should be, filled with creativity, exploration and imagination. All is not rosy in the lives of these youngsters, but the author uses difficult issues to create a portrait of reality through fiction.

Andi's capers are intriguing, enchanting and humorous. I found Andi Under Pressure to be a sweet and very enjoyable read, and I look forward to future stories about Andi and her friends. I highly recommend this book for children ages 9-14 and older. Adults will find these stories delightful as well!

I received this book for free from the Publisher (Zonderkidz) (through BookLookBloggers) for this review.

In the follow-up to Andi Unexpected, Andi Boggs is lucky enough to get into the prestigious science camp called Discovery Camp. From the start of camp mysterious things begin to happen, missing things and loose crickets. Andi decides she and her best friend, Colin, must investigate to find out who is causing these events.

I did not read Andi Unexpected, however, getting into this book I was not confused and didn't feel like I HAD to read it first. Though, after reading this one I would love to go back and read the first one.

This book was so light and cute. Andi is so curious and knows how to be sneaky, and what to say to get the information she wants. I would recommend this book for the age range of the characters (12 years old & up). It may be a little confusing for younger children.

Andi Boggs is on the case again, along with new best friend Colin Carter, they are both in a summer science program at the local university in Kildeer, Ohio. Andi and older sister have moved in with their Aunt since the deaths of both parents. They are both trying to adjust to a life without Mom and Dad and it is rough, with Andi she is more interested in uncovering the mysterious disappearance of items at the university, first it is small stuff; markers and such, then someone let the covers off the crickets containers. When an a teacher is injured in a explosion, Andi is determined to prove the innocence of the janitor and uncover the real culprit before someone is hurt even worse.

Amanda Flower has written a book that appeals both to adults and young teenagers, It is a fast read and very enjoyable.

I read the first book in this series, Andi Unexpected, and really enjoyed it. While the series is meant for young adults, I still enjoy reading them as well. I think I liked the first book better but this one was intriguing. Andi is a science camp when strange things start happening. She is very aware to her surroundings and is rather curious. She starts asking questions and keeping track of the happenings. The reader follows her sleuthing ways until the surprise ending where the guilty party is not who you think it is.

This is a fun book, clean and laced with mystery for anyone to enjoy!

While at a Science camp Andi and Colin encounter another mystery. Someone is sabotaging the camp and putting the blame on the janitor. Andi and Colin hide around corners to listen in on mysterious conversations trying to find out who is behind the incidents that keep occurring.

I enjoyed ANDI UNDER PRESSURE. I would say this is a cozy elementary age mystery. There were a few twists and turns, family angst and even some humor mixed in that made this a fun and entertaining read. This is the 2nd book in the Andi Boggs series and I look forward to reading more in the future.

This is another fun mystery as 12 year old Andi and her best friend Colin go to a science summer camp at the local university. When supplies go missing and the kindly, but mysterious janitor is blamed, Andi and Colin decide to investigate what is going on. When their teacher is injured in a lab accident, things get really serious. In the meantime, Andi's aunt is trying her best to be a parent to Andi and her older sister, Bethany. I received this book free to review from Netgalley. I think that middle school kids will enjoy it very much.

This is the second Andi Boggs mystery and it was just as entertaining as the first. Andi is spunky and the rest of the characters are engaging as well. I loved Nancy Drew as a kid and these books remind me of her. I think this would be a good series to introduce kids to mysteries. But it's also very suitable for adults, too.
